Title: TV Lovers?
Post by: SuperFireKirby on June 03, 2011, 02:54:51 PM
Pretty much the same as the movie lovers topic, except it's for television, duh.

Anyways, anyone seen The Killing? Probably the best new television show this year in my opinion.

Bump! ... Does no one else watch TV here?

Some of my favorite TV shows are Battlestar Galactica (new and old), American Chopper, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, I Shouldn't be Alive, and Monster Quest. But my all-time favorite is Ghost Hunters.

lololol Ghost Hunters. At least its not as bad as Ghost Adventures. My friend keeps telling me aboot how awesome BSG is but I've yet to watch it.

DO NOT MOCK ME. It isn't like all the other ghost shows who supposedly see a walking white man or something crazy like that.

It's kind of funny seeing the investigators jump when they see something, too. :P

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now.

Also watching Chuck, Futurama, and may start Doctor Who.

Of course I like to watch stuff like Star Trek and Firefly as well.  Never got into BSG but I might watch it off of Netflix or something.

I've seen aboot 5 or 6 episodes of Dr. Who. It's kinda corny at times but overall it's a very good show.

oh yeah, NEW HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER SEASON STARTS SEPTEMBER 19TH. AWW YEAH!

You like the history channel, I gather? :P My dad watches it all the time. I must say, from what I've seen, Pawn Stars is pretty epic (and hilarious). And AP is pretty cool too. I don't watch TV very much myself. I never take the time to. I am more of a movie lover.

EDIT: Also

It is pretty funny listening to the old man and Chumlee on Pawn Stars. But I hate when people come into the store wanting full price for the thing they brought. I'm like, "IDIOT! YOU'RE IN A FUCKING PAWN SHOP! YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET HALF OF WHAT IT'S WORTH" Ugh... People. :P

no, because Degrassi's sillyness readings are off the charts. Who knows how silly you may become. Just looked at me. Out of boredom, I watched probably 40 episodes 2 summers ago out of boredom while my sister watched it. Do you really want to be as silly as me? Do you? If so, I wish you luck on coping with it's side effects.  8)

Oh come on, I how ridiculous the show can get. xD I certainly don't call it "THE BESTEST SHOW EVAR!!!!" It's something I like to watch.

Besides. I enjoy my silly 90's sitcoms and cooking shows. And Law and Order.

Holy shit SVU is probably my favourite show.
Title: Re: TV Lovers?
Post by: Jub3r7 on September 15, 2011, 07:27:36 PM
All those law-enforcement related shows that my mom watches...  :P
Along with Chuck, Eureka, Best Wishes, (Just finished Fruits Basket), and some others.

I'm not obsessed with Glee, but it's not that bad.
It's one of those TV shows that turn out terrible if you watch it out of order. The first episode of Glee that I ever saw was the one where they were having sex and singing at the same time. :| Yeaaaaaaaah, about that.

Anyways, you'll make fun of me if I tell you that I'm starting to watch Naruto on netflix, so maybe I won't say anything about that.
Oh yeah, and I was in the middle of the fifth season of Pokemon when I decided I would go through the whole thing in order.
I kinda forget what episode I stopped on, though.

I'm already excited for all the TV this year!

Parks & Rec is back for its final season!
Suits comes back tonight!
Mad Men will finish part 2 of its final season
House of Cards in EXACTLY 1 MONTH!
The Odd Couple Rehash (#chandlerplaysoscar)
Agent Carter is pretty good and Agents of SHIELD comes back in March!
Plus all that HBO stuff (many NSMers might like Looking, but it's VERY NSFW)

Let the discussion begin!

Arrow and Flash are back.  They are still full of cheese and corn but manage to be either amusingly bad or amusing enough to tolerate the actual bad.  Also I concur Agent Carter is pretty good.  Don't really like what generally airs as comedy nowadays so have no opinion there.. besides the fact that yes Portlandia is precisely how Portland is.

Blacklist comes back next week though!

Sherlock is good, but it suffers from all the same Moffat writing tropes as Doctor Who does now, which makes both of them kind of annoying to watch. They made the villain a witty, flirtatious brunette that likes to kiss our protagonist? Who could have guessed?!?!

He's is an great writer, but only when he doesn't have total creative control. Every Moffat episode of DW before he took over as show runner was fantastic. Not so much anymore.

Whoever Sherlock's witty, flirtatious love interest is. Ya know, what's-her-face. There are at least 5 other character Moffat has written who are basically the exact same character.(That bank lady from season 8, that one lady on the spaceship from Matt Smith's last episode, the last villainess of season 8 who is still kind of a spoiler, River Song if you stretch it, the one-eye lady from season 6). And, mind you, this is just one of the many tropes Moffat uses consistently(I think Waddle could do a better job at this).

It's not that bad if you haven't seen both Sherlock and Doctor Who tho, I guess. But I have only watched half of Sherlock, so idunno.

^I agree with this 100%

Shoutout to the American version of Sherlock, Elementary, which is soooo much better than the British one, pulling off the modern twist that Sherlock is trying to pull ten times better. The cast in Elementary is A fucking nonuple plus, for example if you think Bendydick Crumplehorn is a great Sherlock, you haven't seen JONNY FUCKING LEE MILLER. That's just one example of the fantastic cast, but I recommend you not to check out the full list before watching Season 1, cuz spoilers.
The show is currently airing its third season, and like Parks & Rec, I intend to marathon it after the third season finishes next month. I've seen the two first seasons and three episodes of the latest season and it's still going strong.

It's my favourite crime drama. And 75% of the television shows I watch is crime drama.

On the subject of British detectives and crime drama, Luther is also a bloody fantastic crime drama. It's a little short, but it's definitely one of my top recommendations when people ask me what show to watch on Netflix.
Title: Re: TV Lovers?
Post by: mikey on January 30, 2015, 05:59:45 PM
I like Elementary as much as the next guy but as far as crime drama goes I prefer Criminal Minds or NCIS.
The reason I like Sherlock so much is because of how well it follows the original stories (minus some modernizations)
And SFK at first I thought you were talking about Molly but I guess Irene Adler counts, sort of

You have earned Kefka Brownie Points because Voyager is great.  I watched through the whole series last year and enjoyed the hell out of it.  I'm still not sure whether I prefer it to DS9, as I enjoyed both so much once they kicked their way out of the starting slump.

Season 1, Ep. 1
I especially fell in love with Ruth Wilson's character. Alice Morgan is possibly one of my favourite psychopaths I've seen and I still quote her from time to time.

DS9 especially had it where the show just takes a while to figure itself out.  Most of the first season ranged between subpar to lousy, but it quickly improves in later ones.  TNG is also notorious for this.
