LoZ:Yeah, the redeads were really sacried too...
Resi4: I hate when the infected jump to your back when you are almost without energy in that level..
Redeads did scare me when I was a kid, but even RE barely gets to me now....
I still can't play any 3d zelda games.
When I was 6, The zombies in hyrule field prevented me from getting very far in OoT, and the Moon scared me too much to even get the Ocarina back in MjM.
But I guess, the only game that really scared me (I was older but still 'young') was Gears of War 1. It's not scary to me now, but it was the first couple times I played it. I really can't think of anything that's gotten to me since then.
I also was afraid of the Redeads in the OoT, and the face of Blizzeta scared me once in the Twilight. That's all.
Body Harvest and Armorines Project S.W.A.R.M. for N64.
I had to stop playing OoT because of the Redeads in Hyrule Castle Town. That scared the shit out of me. I didn't start playing that game again for a few months.
Oh god no. Redeads.
The one part in the grave where you get the song to freeze them with...I don't think I've ever played the ocarina as much as I did there.
Haha yeah. I remember I'd freeze them right as they were about to grab me. Good thing everything paused while you played the ocarina. The ones before you got sun's song were the worst.
i think this will help xD

They scared me so much, I had my brother freezing/killing those damn Redeads.
Hmm. I don't remember being scared of redeads for some reason. I was scared by the shark in banjo kazooie, the giant fish in super mario 64, you know the one that 1 hit kills you. But thats back than.
Now it's those darn Regenerators. Oh god not them. When I first saw it I didn't play for a week.
Also, Something in half-life scared me, but I forgot what it was.
Also, in Super Mario Sunshine, the giant boss underwater named Quirky Eel (the one you have to brush his teeth to defeat him) also freaked me out a little... Im claustrophobic, and being 100 meters underwater fighting with a giant Eel just affected my respiratory system xD

Just so you know, it's not because of redeads.

In Umbrella Chronicles or in RE3? or both? I hated that one scene in RE3 when you're in this hallway and he comes and kills this one guy, and whenever he walked through a wall (that may be RE2 tho). I haven't played the main storyline games in sooo long...(IMO, RE4 and RE5 can't compare to 0, 1, 2 and 3.)

Are you young? Or just stupid?
I'm not really into horror games so I can't talk about Resident Evil and stuff. But I hate the parts in Metroid Fusion when you have to run away from that invincible uber SA-X that kills in an instant. In OoT those giant hands in the Forest and Shadow Dungeon creep me out... not only when I was young, but still today. :'(
I'm not young nor stupid, respect my opinion please, like i said:
Quote(IMO, RE4 and RE5 can't compare to 0, 1, 2 and 3.)
and i DID NOT say RE4 is bad, in fact I am a great fan of the franchise, I just said that 0,1,2 and 3 were more of my taste.

Body Harvest was awesome! though every time that eyrie calm music grew into that orchistra of terror i was always kinda frightened. other then that, redeads didnt really scare me-they were just weird. i dunno, i guess Killer7 kinda made me jump.
the first generation Pokemon games freaked me out a bit (the part with the ghost and the whole "missing number" glitch were the reasons) and I got some free game for my Mac called "Ovid the Owl" which is one of those 3D animated things where the characters are always fairly creepy looking, bobbing their heads slowly and just standing there

Holy crap, these hands scared the hell outta me too. I mean, the creepy sound, and then the hand that comes down to grab you...had trouble finishing the dungeon because of them.

Oh I recall my infancy fears now
I've never made it to the shadow temple, but i do know the forest temple song scared the shit out of me. After like a minute you can hear this guy go hoot hoot, and it always got me, plus that room that you could turn upside down (the one with the boss key) freaked me and the hand thingies that took you to the beggining of the temple didn't things any better.

I can understand how a giant severed hand can scare the crap out of someone but they were easier than a ReDead that's rather stubborn to dying as the zombies from Resident Evil. It also seems all of our earliest fears are from OoT's Redeads, walking skeletons (Stalfoes), Giant Spiders with skull patterns (Skulltulas), and our evil severed hand friends as old as the Zelda series itself;wall masters.
Wait...invisible Floormasters from the Shadow temple...you're squeezed to death and you soiled yourself in the process. I personally didn't because they annoyed the crap out of me.
I was scared of Kaepora Gaepora for a loooooooong time.
Why haven't anyone mentioned F.E.A.R. yet? It scares the extrements out of me even though I've never played it, just watched some videos...
Quote from: SirIngusBingus on July 31, 2009, 07:56:39 AMI was scared of Kaepora Gaepora for a loooooooong time.
You made me lol. To me he was just annoying, I didn't understand english back the first time I plyed OoT, now you know how he always asks at the end 'do you want me to repeat what I just said again?' or some shit so I always answered yes since MOST games asked 'did you understand', so I never made it to Zelda nor Dodongo's cavern. Stupid Kaepora Gaebora.
@Cobraroll: yesh, I saw a friend play it once, SCARY AS HELL, but then again, everything scares me.
Haha same, I didn't really understand english when I first played that game... (I think I was 6 years old) so I would just not read what he was saying... and I ended up choosing "Yes" to his "Do you want me to repeat again?" thing too. Hopefully we don't meet him too often.

Cobra! Good to see you!
How about an Emergence update?
^Nice to see you too! I'm working on it, but I've been away a lot this summer, and only get an hour here, an hour there to write. I'm going away again on Monday, but from next Saturday on, I'll be home. I'll finish it as soon as I can, within the borders of quality.
The Earth Temple in WindWaker is also quite creepy, by the way. The zombies are evil.
They're not just evil, they're damn paedophiles. They attack you by raping you.
I've never really been creeped out by a game- umm... I didn't start gaming properly 'till I was about 7 or 8... I played the odd PC game when I was younger, but I don't remember much of that.
I'm not allowed to get 18's (high level R's) so I don't play many horrors.
Ah ha, I remember, the giant spiders in HP2 (I was an insane HP fan back then) freaked my bro out, and he was like 10, and he's 4 years older than me. I did the level for him =P.
Another reason why WindWaker is creeeeeepy: The Fire temple. Listen carefully to the background music. Something is snoring, or breathing heavily, barely audible over the background sounds. It makes you expect it to wake up and jump at you any second.
Ocarina of Time was always creepy for me. I hated future Hyrule Market, and you had to go through it when you changed ages, so, it was the scariest part for me. Especially since you get paralyzed, then they suck the life out of you :P
Otherwise, things that scared me more than they should have was caused from too much gaming, and playing until Dead o' Clock. The first was playing CoD:World at War, playing Nazi Zombies. I'm just fine playing it now, but after playing through the last level for a few hours, being frustrated at the hordes of Nazis that are everywhere, being attack by what you just killed isn't the best medicine.
The other creepy moment was, once again, at night, playing Bioshock. It was the Sander Cohen level, and i got lost. When you get lost, trying to take pictures of dead guys, and having Spider Splicers jump down onto your head, you get freaked out and decide to stop playing for a few days :P
Gooch: Ah shit, that made me stop playing the game (OOT) for months when I was a kid.
^Ooh, I forgot about that. I had the same reaction.
ReDeads never really scared me, they were just creepy. Something that made me jump were the mimics in Dark Cloud 2. They would do a close up on a treasure chest and all of a sudden a mimic would just pop out! With big sharp teeth. Once I got older I was freaked out by the zombies and cyborgs in Return to Castle Wolfenstein but that's really it. And Silent Hill, can't forget about Pyramid Head.
Well, like half the other people who posted here, Ocarina of Time scared the crap out of me in my younger days. I got to the Forest Temple (somehow I managed to make it through the ReDeads in Hyrule Market without ripping my eyes out) and stopped for like 2 years there. "Watch for the shadows of monsters that hang from the ceiling!". *Shudders*
Then I finally got to the Bottom of the Well which I beat... somehow without killing myself again. What stopped me for the second time was the Shadow Temple. The music alone would destroy me. So as a child, I reconnected the Audio/Video cables of my N64 and SNES so Yoshi's Island's "Athletic" theme would be playing in the temple instead. I finally beat it. :)
I don't play many first person shooters, so I miss out on a lot of survival-horror games. However, one game which still gets me jittery is Metroid Prime. Only one area of it: The 3 Phazon Rooms of the Phazon Mines. They're riddled with metroids. I don't even know why they freak me out. I guess just the suddenness of their attacks, their ominousness, their sound effects. (It's different from the silent dread I had for the OoT games; this is more of a jumpy, jittery, freaked out, blood-pumping kind of fear.)
I thought MM was creepier that OoT, what with the Moon falling down and everything. I had a few nightmares about that.
barnie's hide and seek for the genesis.
Incredible the fact that nobody have mentioned Eternal Darkness here...
Ovid the Owl. Creepiest game ever.
Q-bert.
Quote from: universe-X on September 13, 2009, 07:07:34 AMthe scariest game i've ever played as of yet, is... Super Mario Galaxy, lol.
i would go through Bowser's Star Reactor many times before finally reaching Bowser, who scared the juice outta me. and when it came to the actual battle, i would have to go through it AT LEAST 20 times before giving up, staying off the game 6 months, looking up some stuff on youtube, figuring out there's a whole bunch of cool stuff (and how to actually beat Bowser :P) waiting in the game. and yes i cried when i gave up so many times, and i cried when i finally beat him for the first time, (a little immature, i know :P). but now, i am an SMG pro (almost, lol).
A Mario game made you cry.
hahaha
*vaguely remembers crying over a mario game a long time ago.
I beat him first try.
It honestly isn't that hard. :-\
When I was a kid, I remember seeing my mom playing a game called Phantasmagoria. It scared the hell outta me.
...Phantasmagoria...
Damnit why is PoFV the first thing that comes to my mind?
Lawl, me too.
