We're starting to work on designing a shirt for NSM!
I obviously can't do this all by myself, especially seeing that this is a shirt meant for the entire NSM community and not just for me. But that's where you all come in!
*cool flashy transition*
I encourage everyone to make their own designs and post them here. Otherwise, you can pitch ideas!
Even if you can't do the above, I would appreciate if you could take the time to give feedback on the designs. Think to yourself, "Would I wear this?"
I look forward to seeing everybody's ideas. Let's make something happen!
To start things off, here is a design I made, largely influenced by sports design. Please feel free to let me know your opinions on it.

Try reducing the red toward the bottom half of the shirt, maybe?
Haha, it looks like an E-Sports shirt! I love it, but don't just make it for NSM staff! Maybe you can do another shirt with just the logo. (Which it's neat!)
@BDS I'll good around with the red at the bottom.
@AY You don't see it in the image, but there's other versions that day "Member" or "Arranger" instead of "Staff". I'll make another simpler design with just the logo soon.
Man, I want an NSM arranger shirt.
Looks cool! I think another design idea should have something on it that relates to music (like for example a treble clef). For our individual names, would we just edit a nameless template?
@Nebbles you could buy one when it comes out ;)
@Zeila Yeah, there should be some designs that are more "NSM-y". For the names, you'd probably message me to make it.
iNotate
I am a man of long-sleeved shirts. I think a design should compliment both a T-shirt and a long-sleeved shirt.
I think the basic gist of it is to make a design with both vg and music elements? I'm going to see if I can think of a clever way to incorporate the two.
Maybe we could get our NSM avatar (or whatever the picture next to our name is called) on the shirt sleeve or something to that nature. It would make the shirt feel more unique.
It's too Asian lol. I'd recommend something like the main site banner across the chest of the T shirt with either block lettering our arranger names on back or a list of all the arrangers similar to a grad party T shirt
EDIT: I made my own beautiful sketch of a t shirt
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi856.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fab124%2Fekimjar%2FT%2520shirts_zpsmznkvpv2.jpg&hash=8859e97e3c10ae6032f2b4723133f3f3e718e3c1)
I like nocs idea
Maybe what we could do is (perhaps on the sleeve) have an emblem of a game of our choice, to represent what we specialize in? It's just an idea XD
For instance, mine would be a Shine Sprite or something like that.
Either way, I like your idea, Braix, and would definitely buy a shirt!
@Insig sounds good, let's go with a design that works for long-sleeves as well
@Brainy avatars on the shirts would be difficult to incorporate, plus what would happen if you change it?
@NoS I like it, but what if new arrangers come, and which arrangers would we decide to put on the back? People could get salty over not being on the shirt or something.
@E.Gadd Copyright.
i want nocs shurt too

The banner would be nice but the list would be hard because we'd have to decide who goes on that list, and what constitutes being an arranger here... someone will end up unhappy, either because they're not on the list or the list is too saturated with bad arrangers.
Alternatively we can go with this.

then we just put our arranger name on it lol it'd be customized instead of everyone
or we could put the year 2015 on it it's really not that hard
Then we would need to make a new shirt every year right? It also feels way too "graduate-y"
Listing a bunch of arrangers is just difficult to pull off. If someone has a good way to do it then we can consider it
Quote from: NocturneOfShadow on February 26, 2016, 09:19:00 AMthen we just put our arranger name on it lol it'd be customized instead of everyone
are you not getting this or something c'mon man
my shirt would say "NocturneOfShadow" on top and yours would say "braixen1264"
I was replying to the "2015" part
This would be pretty cool...
Imagine traveling somewhere, wearing this shirt, and someone comes up to you and says they're also a member of the site. Then you discover each other's "secret identity" and whatnot.
CONNECTIONS!
But for real, maybe just having a simplified logo on the front (resembling the home page; perhaps re-envisioned as an app logo? Or within a circle, etc. with the name underneath), then on the back can be customized to having our usernames along the top (if it isn't too difficult to incorporate all persons interested)? Don't necessarily need an "arranger," "staff," etc. as to show unification of the site.
I'd love to work on a design if I had the free time... but definitely interested in getting a shirt eventually!
[I've been involved with many shirt designs and can help with what works and what doesn't if y'all need some guidance. Although it's ultimately up to you all, as I don't really contribute to the site much anymore :/]

Quote from: NocturneOfShadow on February 26, 2016, 09:19:00 AMor we could put the year 2015
I think the NSM logo should stay on the front like my T-Shirt design.
The back has a couple options.
1) Each T-Shirt is customized for the orderee with their arranger name on it
2) Each T-Shirt has a list of all current arrangers (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/arranger). This is why I suggested putting a year so that newer members would know why they weren't on the list=no saltiness
3) The back just has a bunch of random crap like jamaha's face or something.
my favorite option is the first
We need to make the shirt so that it doesn't cause problems for anyone('i dont arrange but i shud be on the shirt blahblah'). We might also need to scrap the customization idea because as cool as it would be, it might work out very well and it'd be pretty expensive.
I'm still figuring things out and going on different shirt websites to see what we can and can't do. Chances are, we'll go with a simple design generalized for everyone and not customized. If customization is possible with the site I decide on, I'll make sure to make that an option.
i like the idea of a black shirt with a colorful logo
I'd like a customization, but I can imagine how difficult that'd be. I could see Noc's idea working, 1 or 2. Problem with 2 is that that's a LOT of arrangers, which would make for a very small font size. Idk. Maybe there's an idea that we aren't thinking of that'll work amazingly.

although, we might want to find some way to regulate who can order what. It'd be weird if a bunch of weirdos came and made shirts of Deku and impersonated him b/c Deku is cool. Maybe like Braix keeps the final designs and you have to get the shirt through him or something? idk.
From my experience in t-shirt ordering, it's possible for one person to submit the list of phrases to put on each shirt, so they have control over that.
Though I think it depends on the site.
oh this is a serious realistic idea!!
I can handle the shirts fam if you want, know people who have gotten shirt merch made in the past through websites, and I'm doing the exact same thing atm irl for our senior class hoodies!!!
(although it's local but the process of planning how we're doing this is the same)
From what I know, the best and uncomplicated route to go on is to just have a design and have that printed on the mono-coloured item(the base colors can differ depending on demand!!).
Also another thing to note is where to have them printed because of the import taxes and such. For example shirts like this can cost Europeans around 35 euros with the shipping+tax, making them not really worth getting because so many of us are poor students.
Imo we should get design plans and possible colour polls going with an estimate who definitely wants shirts and where they are from! :) Kinda hyped for nsm shirts now haha

Oh damn, personalized shirts sound really cool. I get to feel like a celebrity when I'm not ^_^
I think we should stick with Braix's design and just switch the NSM logo with the actual one.
We could stick with the same layout, but the website probably won't allow the designs I did with the colors and stuff.
I'll post a more simplified design with the normal logo soon.
it most definitely shouldn't be skintight
only like 3 people on the site can pull that off
anyone can pull off skintight
I would just like a traditional T-shirt and nothing more.
I was thinking 100% cotton for the material, dyed dark gray, maybe navy
My favorite color is a forest green. Or Luigi Green. One of those two.
Chances are, you'll be able to choose between multiple colors when you order the shirt.
When we get the final design, I'll provide a downloadable folder with preview images of all the shirt color options and styles.
Awesome! Is there any projection as to when this thing will be on the market?
They'll be available to order as soon as everyone can decide on what we want. Hopefully before summer.
Here's the second design:

It'll of course be available in a wide variety of colors and there'll be a long sleeved version as well. I can take out the "Staff/Arranger/Member" thing if you guys want, or we can leave it there.
I used the favicon of the site rather than the one that looks like the Nintendo logo, just to steer way clear of copyright issues.
Also I'd have liked to make the name on the back larger, but some peoples' names are way too long and hard to shorten, so I needed to make all of them smaller to regulate the sizes while having the larger names fit in there.
The name on the back could also be taken out if needed. Maybe swapped out for the "Staff/Arranger/Member" thing.
Ooooo, I really like this one. Nice work, Braix.
UPDATE: Removing the idea of adding names onto the shirts for copyright issues and for simplicity (e.g. Latios wouldn't be able to get a shirt because of copyright). We'll be putting the titles on the back(Staff/Arranger/Member) instead, and taking those titles out from the front of the shirt.
I personally apologize for any crushed hype for customized shirts. Hopefully you'll still be excited for the idea of NSM shirts.
I want "Fudanshi" as my title, ok?
Okay I dunno but maybe.
Anyway here's the updated designs. Feel free to leave opinions.
Once we get a design that the majority of people like, we can make that the final design.

I would definitely be in support of this.
Two things:
- I personally don't like the lighter rectangle. It's alright in the first one, but under the logo is eh.
- Do they have actual pictures with shirts that color?
You should put these in the OP and make a poll.
Quote from: Zunawe on February 27, 2016, 12:36:47 PM- I personally don't like the lighter rectangle. It's alright in the first one, but under the logo is eh.
I don't exactly understand, could you elaborate? How would you want that fixed?
Quote from: Zunawe on February 27, 2016, 12:36:47 PM- Do they have actual pictures with shirts that color?
If you go to this link: http://www.customink.com/lab?ref=nav_v2
Go to "your items" and click "Change" next to the colors. It should show a pretty accurate projection of what the shirt would look like.
Quote from: Zunawe on February 27, 2016, 12:36:47 PMYou should put these in the OP and make a poll.
Sure, poll will be up soon
It's a personal opinion. I think the lighter color as a background looks like the text box was filled in. Rounding the edges like a bubble on A and reducing the height of the box on B would improve it in my opinion. I personally would never choose C over the first two.
They do look really good though.
Added new options.
I definitely like D and E the most.
I agree with FA, though I prefer D over E.
So how in the world are these shirts going to be purchasable....and to whom would the money the shirts sell for even go to?
The idea is that the cost of the shirt will be strictly the production cost so that no one's profiting from it. I have no idea how shirt companies do that sort of thing, but that's what we're aiming for.
I forgot to put the titles on the backs of D and E, did you like it without, or is it better with the titles?
Oh, my brain kinda just automatically assumed they had titles and saw it as such. yes titles pls
I had to reset the poll just to get rid of that weird confusion and make everything super clear, to get the most accurate results.
All designs are updated and listed in the OP.
Can we do anything about that bright red against the dark gray in the logo? It's giving me a seizure...
It should be darker when it gets printed.
I definitely like D and E better. It's hard to decide though...
I'll make sure to lower the red to a darker shade of red.
Also you can change your vote later if you want to so no rush
By the way, how does the "min quantity 6" thing work? Because that's a restriction on the color and shirt type you picked. (Also a restriction on most of the long sleeved shirts).
You can only order them if your order has 6 or more of that color or style.
I'm looking through other websites to see if there are any without restrictions such as these. Hopefully I can find a good one. Otherwise we'll have to stick with the non-restricted options
Ok, it may just be that I'm half asleep, but what's the difference between B, C, and D, and between A & E? ???
The light-gray box around the images in B, C, and D differs in size between the three. The text box below the logo in E has more rounded corners than A does.
O_O I can't believe it was THAT obvious...
Small suggestion: maybe add the date or year NSM was established? 2005, was it?
I think having "NinSheetMusic" clearly visible on the front is very crucial. I voted design A as it kinda kept the whole block theme of it all and had not only the Logo but the Name all dead center. Though I'm not sure how I feel about the green background.
Quote from: ZeldaFan on March 01, 2016, 12:09:55 PMSmall suggestion: maybe add the date or year NSM was established? 2005, was it?
Yeah this could go at the bottom of the back side.
That was my rationale, but I voted E.
My thoughts in a nice pretty list:
-Green background looks awkward to me. Like, to the point that that could very well hinder how often I wear it in public.
-Date of site. Obviously we need a date. Maybe not a copyright, but yeah.
-On the back should not only go the arranger's name, but also maybe some indication of their status as an arranger (on the off chance that the general public start wearing these kind of things eventually) So maybe like "Arranger
JDMEK5".
-Site URL is mandatory imo.
I like this idea with the shirt. My main problem with pretty much all of them is that they look kind of "empty". There is the logo and that's it. Maybe have like a piano roll under it diagonally, or some sheet music or something in the background. As of now it looks just too boring imo. However the back side doesn't need to be that special, it can only say "Arranger" and under "your name". But the front side could be somewhat more elaborated I think.
I agree with Tobbeh, and don't really like any of the designs. Perhaps we can use a different logo?
It's still a problem to write usernames given we don't have the rights to lots of them (i.e. Olimar, Latios, E. Gadd, etc...). It could be argued that copyrighted material is being unlawfully used to promote the site.
Quote from: Olimar12345 on March 09, 2016, 10:09:57 AMI agree with Tobbeh, and don't really like any of the designs. Perhaps we can use a different logo?
you guys liked my T shirt though right
Remind me which one you did.
1) Green is not the final color. I'm sure I mentioned before that there would be a ton of colors to choose from. Green was a random color for the preview.
2) Date of the site's start could be done, I want to see everyone's thoughts on this though
3) We can do the status, but as I announced already before, we will not be making any huge customization options like the names as we run into copyright problems and we want to streamline the ordering as much as possible(so not like 50 designs)
4) The reason we can't do a lot with the design and why it looks so "empty" is that we aren't given much space for print. Unless we want a rectanglular outline cutting off the design, we have to work with the space we're given and that would mean that we keep it simple.
5) Unless we're to make a new logo, the site favicon may be the best we got. The other NSM logo may run into issues with being an obvious rip-off of the Nintendo logo. I'd like to stay on the safe side.
Quote from: braixen1264 on March 09, 2016, 11:51:44 AM2) Date of the site's start could be done, I want to see everyone's thoughts on this though
I'm all for putting the date somewhere.
Imo it's pretty fine already, no need to overcomplicate things. Simple and clean.
Though the date would work well (Est. blah blah blah). And maybe a slogan of sorts like "The world's largest video game sheet music collection" or something for people wondering what the heck a Nin is.
I'm not sure a date is necessary, but something like a small "Est. 2004" would look fine below "NinSheetMusic". I think the current logo is the best choice; it's clean and simple.
Double ninjad by slow Internet.
Edit: Great minds, Latios.
I've got a design idea, I wasn't so specific in my previous post. How about take design A or E, and the have the text "NinSheet Music" on a staff. Like a treble clef at the beginning, then the text on the staff, could be cool I think. Also I think the size on the logo and the text are quite bad on design A and E, I'd like the logo to be a bit smaller and the text a bit bigger.
Also is it possible to have 2 colors? Like green + another color, maybe grey?
Also I don't get the thing with that we can't use our names because of copyright. Like nintendo has copyrighted "Latios" so we couldn't write "Latios212" on a shirt? Nintendo probably hasn't copyrighted "Latios212" at least, only "Latios", I'm guessing.
We can use letters with the dots and squiggles to avoid copyright issues
like an umlaut

2. I really like the idea.
3. I would like some indication of status, but I do understand copyright issues with names.
4. The reason I chose E is because I thought it did manage the given space most efficiently.
5. I'm fine with the pixelated logo (although Tobbeh's idea could be taken pretty far if given enough details and such)

I'll mess with the design a bit when I have time.
Unfortunately we're not allowed to use more than one color for the shirt fabric.
I'm pretty sure a name like "Latios212" or "braixen1264" still won't be okay. I'd just like to steer completely clear of copyright risks
It may not be individually copyrighted, and there are discrepancies, but there is no dispute that it's Nintendo's property. Imagine somebody advertising the phone "Galaxy F7" or naming a character in an unrelated move "Ash Ketchum". Coming from somebody that has an original username and would like to put it on a shirt: we can't do it.

You can always modify it yourself once you get it (although it might look a tad strange)
Using our real names wouldn't help, eh? (Yeah I'm Canadian and I said "eh". I ain't oblivious) Like, the underlying issue is that the minimum order of shirts would default if there were any differences between the individuals' designs, right?
huh, sometimes I type eh too, but I don't usually say it out loud

I like the idea of an "'Established 2004" but I think that would belong better near the bottom rim of the shirt. Maybe the back. Idk, it just doesn't seem like it belongs under the logo. That kind of thing is for pub and beer shirts.
AHA WE HAVE SURPASSED THEM
New drinking game: Everyone just take a freakin' shot cuz we're beyond drinking.
The customization doesn't allow for that much freedom, we'll have to put it under the logo or something if we put it in at all
only establishments can be established
How about "Organized in 2004"? Something like that, anyways.
look man I just want a t shirt with NSM on it, that's it
I don't want anything fancy, and it better be 100% cotton too
"Est. 2004" sounds a lot more official
which is why it's a bad idea imo
UPDATE:
So I remembered about this so here we go again. Below are the results of the previous vote. New poll is up.
As a disclaimer, no "oh no i didnt vote i wanted to vote for this DDDDD:". What's done will be done. That said, vote when you can.
"Established in 2004" Underneath "NinSheetMusic"?
Yes: 7
No: 8
that's good. This isn't an establishment, it wasn't ever established
I feel like the second option would make it polo-esque.
Idk if I posted it here, but I'm totally on board with this.
Oh wow, a tie
Gosh, I wish I could like posts. XD
There is a mod you can get for it.
Why would you want to like posts?

UPDATE:
Whoops. New poll goes up soon, will wait for minimum 10 votes, one week. Remind me when the week passed because obviously I can't keep time
"NSM Logo Size/Position"
Big and Centered: 7
Small and offset, "NinSheetMusic" written next to it: 11
See, regarding the current poll, I feel like I would rather have the light colored box in if it was Design B. For C and D I prefer not. But on the poll I voted to take it off.
I just think the light box seems useless. Sure, it does emphasize the site's name, but it seems to take away from the "neatness" of the shirt, at least to me, and that's why I voted against it.

I thought the same thing. I voted for with this in mind.
A week has passed.
...dang it, already?
I'll get to this by 4pm Sunday AEDT at the latest. Remind me again on Skype though just in case
It's past Sunday, although I'm not on Skype atm.
No I didn't forget again, I obviously meant this upcoming Sunday not the last one
._. Oh Yes, I know that was sarcasm
it's a couple sundays after that
Shhhh
next year ok
*marks calendar*
/me sets 13 alarms
Lol
Plus, it's the Sunday after next year XD
Well then.
Busy right now but somebody kick me on skype sometime later so I don't forget again
Will English chaps be able to purchase these, if they become a thing? I'd probably get a couple :D
First, the design needs to be finalized
Braix? ::)
Ok I just have no idea what design option to put in the poll next and I can't think of one.
Do you guys have ideas
Well, was it ever determined if we would have "Arranger", "Updater", etc. on the back? And you haven't edited the current poll's results into the OP yet :P
I just found this thread, and I think the idea for a site shirt would be amazing!
Right now I'm in love with either design A or E. I like the big NSM logo on the front. The offset designs just feel uneven to me.
Boomp
Put the results in the OP. It might be difficult to get these shirts shipped with a title on the back(i.e. arranger/updater/etc)
Right now the design is looking like Design B except without the light box around the text.
New poll is up
I think that is the best one to do, although we might need a logo update
I still feel like the offset logo will just make the shirt look so lopsided...
For opinions' sake, what do people like about design B?
Design B (and similar layouts) has always been my favorite, personally.
lopsidedness isn't really something that stuck out to me. Typically large centered graphic art doesn't stay on the shirt as long. It looks less like a jersey with a small offset logo. It's cheaper to do a smaller logo. Just some things that make me favor it over a big centered one
I've never really liked SUPER BIG IN YOUR FACE artwork on shirts compared to a less "overwhelming" (for lack of a better word, I'm tired) design.
