They sounds all fine :D but in Toy Time Galaxy in measure 13 and 17 the bass is different like the rest of the 3 measures before it. Since that finale can open midi files :P. And do you have Mus files of those or missed I something in another topic I didn't read?
Title: Re: JDMEK5's Arrangements
Post by: WiiMan96 on February 28, 2011, 02:10:24 AM
They all sound good, but inherently no .mus was always going to be a problem. It won't be submitted to the site without it, and even if someone/s were nice enough to convert ALL those and others you're bound to make in the future, it really wouldn't be fair to them.

If you use something like Sibelius or MuseScore you might be able to convert it into MusicXML format, which would be easier to import. Converting from MIDI to MUS is really messy and only gives us notes. Rarely do key sigs, time changes, grace notes and any form of formatting, articulation or dynamics translate properly if at all.

Hope you work this out. :)

Thanks for this feedback. Now that I think about it, you've got a big point, and it wouldn't be fair to everyone else to convert my files. If I get the chance I'll get a finale product. (I'd better start saving  :D) What's really fortunate is that the program I use can export Midis AND MusicXMLs. MusicXMLs never crossed my mind because I always found them pretty messy, but if that works best I have no problems whatsoever.
(Just to let you know if you read this again, I had no idea what I was talking about because my program can't read XMLs)

Maybe convert it to MusicXML, link us and I'll see how it works? It probably won't be perfect, but you never know.

Finale PrintMusic is only $119 last I checked (not nearly as much as Finale Full) and that offers more than the functionality you'd ever need for piano arrangements for the site. The instrument limit might stop some orchestral arrangements but it's not too restrictive if you ask me. Having Finale full is mainly for bragging rights, methinks. :P

Just one small question that doesn't really change my bias, but can it change clefs?

PrintMusic can change clefs at the start of any measure. Full Finale can change it anywhere in any measure.

PrintMusic has 8va and 8vb though, so clef changes aren't really necessary in the middle of a measure.

Sorry, I don't have any finale products so I can't make .mus files. (The Toy Time was made with a trial [yes, long expired])

As for the right hand, I don't really have many other ideas that will really change the difficulty much...
Unless you have some ideas.?  :P

This may seem like a uselessly random question, but, do you think this is accurate enough to get on the site?

Well...it's pretty hard. I don't know any pianist who would take the time to learn a song of this sort if it's going to be this hard. I would love to learn this song...but the left hand is a little ridiculous at times. Hell, so is the right hand. Maybe it can't be arranged any differently...still I was admittedly a bit disappointed.
Title: Re: JDMEK5's Arrangements (NEW Pokémon B/W Elite Four Battle)

Well, you know... If a part like those ridiculous right hand parts are simply waaayyy too hard,
I just skip those parts (Assuming those are background sounds {which they are in this case}).
As for the left hand, I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you mean measure 42...
In which case, I would lower super-jumped notes down a few octaves until it's comfortable.

Hope this helps!  8)

Errr...what? The whole point of arranging something is to make it playable. That's not to say it can't be difficult, but if you're expecting people to simplify it, then right it simplified. There's no point writing something that will inevitably end up being played a different way nearly all the time.

^This. People don't come looking for sheet music to have it sound nice...they come to be able to play the song. Most people just browsing the site are amateur or intermediate-level pianists.

Title: Re: JDMEK5's Arrangements (NEW Pokémon B/W Elite Four Battle)

Elite four

in the ostinato(repeating phrase) in the bass, the bottom note is actually an F# and the notes on the off-beats go up chromatically so the last note is not an D# but an E natural. make sure to fix this throughout the piece where it appears.

bars 13-20- I would remove the octaves, the top notes for the first four and then the bottom notes for the next four.

bar 21- is there any reason for the C to be that low? if that note is necessary, I would recommend moving it up an octave so the player doesn't have to move their hand awkwardly. if it's not necessary, perhaps octave the F, or leave it as one note played at a time. towards the end of that bar I would use Ab instead of G#

25-32 -again, probably should make it one note played instead of the octave.

33, 35- that low E is oddly tied to the next bar, I would remove the tie and the note it's tied to

43-44 - the first four 16ths could be moved up an octave to avoid an unnecessary jump from F# to E.

45- any reason why the first beat is 8-16-16 instead of four 16th like the previous 2 bars?

46- I would avoid playing more than 1 note in a 16th note run like this.

47-48- odd application of a tremolo especially since you use 8th notes afterwards.

51-52- I would either make the E octaves last for the whole bar, leave the 16th note run in the next bar, and then make an eighth rest out of the two 16th notes at the end of bar 52. repeat for 53-54.

55- why not lower the first two notes an octave and start the 8va at the beginning of the bar?

70- everything past here is a repeat of bar 13 so make put a repeat at the beginning of 13 and the end of 70 and then remove everything past 71.

Listened to a few of your MUS-arrangements now, and I'm impressed.

Toy Time Galaxy is good. It's a song that's hard to capture on a piano, without sounding too much like the original SMB theme, but you've managed to pull it off well.

Route 1 - Very nice indeed! Perhaps it could use a little 8va, or a key change even, in the bass in measure 11, 13, 22 and 24, other than that, it sounds awesome. Though, one better have a well-trained left arm when playing it.

Pokécenter - this one sounds a little weird, but it's true to the original. It's been a while since I've heard the HGSS Pokécenter theme, but I vaguely recall it's not as "flowing" as, for example, the B/W version.

DekuTrombonist, if you read this, I'd like to thank you for your time.
I was just wondering if you could leave my "Haunted Woods" arrangement a bit more "like my original".
For example, right hand in measures 1, 3, 38, and 40 in the same octave as measures 2 and 39?
And the left hand as repeating eighth notes in measures 11, 13-15, 18-22, 34-37, and likewise for the second loop.

Sorry if this sounds really ridiculous, but I thought it could sound better without making it much harder (if at all).
Thanks for taking the time to hear me out, and please respond regardless.
Thanks again!

any reason why you used a composed bass line based on the drum line rather than the bass line in the song?

And that cluster of notes, I think that´s way too hard for most people to play so I might get rid of them.
It´s sad here, I´ve only seen one piano, and that was in Miami. I wish I could play harmonica...

(Don´t get me wrong, I am enjoying this trip. :D)

I know this needs help before it's ready for the site, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to ask more but I also need an mus. of this. I can't do it myself mostly because I can't change volume levels in the middle of a song.

Thanks for even the smallest contribution!

I hate to ask more of anyone out there, but I need another mus.
This one I obviously can't make myself, having Notepad 2008.

Final Battle (Orchestral Version)
Midi (http://www.mediafire.com/?lq57q9dnf7zhlko) | XML (http://www.mediafire.com/?zu05ghed8v8x48m) | PDF (http://www.mediafire.com/?eif07rm32w9j10b)

I know this is an amazingly intense project, but I made this a year ago, not dreaming I could ever submit it here.
Endless thanks goes to anyone who can even help a little.

P.S. This was made from the piano version on this site. That doesn't pose a problem, does it?

Actually, you can make this in Notepad 2008. Just right click on the midi file, and choose "open with..." then select Notepad. It will make sheets based on the midi.

USE THE MIDI. You don't need the XML at all. It will be fine and will require no additional reformatting.

^ I know what you mean. :P
Also, Snow Mountain is very well done! I just have one part that I think needs to be added in: in the last 4 measures before the repeat, there is a horn in the background that plays a C-G-A-G run twice and I don't hear that. Does that make any sense?
EDIT: The horn plays from 1:22 to 1:27 in your youtube link.

Eh...no. The notes should be C4-G3-A5-G4, with the G4 being held as a whole note. The pattern repeats in the next two measures. (Hopefully you know what I mean...if I'm not making any sense, you can just leave it out. :P)

[Sega] Sonic 2 - Oil Ocean - [MIDI] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Sonic%20The%20Hedgehog%202%20-%20Oil%20Ocean.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Sonic%20The%20Hedgehog%202%20-%20Oil%20Ocean.pdf)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoEEL1VlNZE)[YouTube][/url]

Unfortunately, the percussion keeps the beat for basically the entire song, which you can't do with piano.
So count hard, because it's easy to lose timing.

EDIT: Changed. Should be a lot better now.

The full title is "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" not "Sonic 2"

I feel as though the first notes should be an eighth notes worth of pickup.

Have you tried adding that melody that plays a hair after the end of the chords at 4-7?

I think you're adding too many notes at the ends of the bass lines.

The bass pattern about 5 measure from the end that lasts for 3 measures gets higher, not lower. There are incorrect notes too.

You're using Eighth Eighth-Tied-Eighth Eighth, when you really should be using Eighth Quarter Eighth.

Stone Valley - [MUS] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20Snap%20-%20Stone%20Valley.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20Snap%20-%20Stone%20Valley.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20Snap%20-%20Stone%20Valley.pdf)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4_WsFiOwxE)[YouTube][/url]

Quote from: Bubbles7689 on September 13, 2012, 03:47:48 PMI looked at it but my critisism isnt worth anything yet.
I don't believe that. Everyone's opinion/criticism is valid and valuable.

Mostly I'm looking for note accuracy. I have to be sure that every note/chord is as the original.
I'm already 100% sure of the treble, so it's just the bass.

I wanted to get other peoples' opinion on it so I could rest assured that it was 100% accurate.
The more people I can get to sign off on it, the more sure I can be.
I believe wholeheartedly that the best way to get rid of issues is to see it from many perspectives.
If I miss something, maybe someone else will get it. If that person misses it as well, the next person has a shot at it. (so on and so forth)

So I'll probably be doing this with my other Pokémon Snap arrangements that I'm not completely sure about.

Thanks for looking at it though!

Post by: JDMEK5 on September 13, 2012, 04:31:03 PM
Well yeah. I used to feel the same way. But I think the rule is:

If you have lots of sharps in the key signature, you're going to want to use sharps and double sharps instead of naturals. Same goes for flats.

Don't quote me on that. I figured it out myself so no musical authority actually said so (as far as I know). But I think that's the idea.

Yeah I know  :P. Im kinda in between instruments right now, since Ive been playing piano for almost 10 years but Ive started violin now. Piano is alot easier to play, mainly because I just sit down and start playing, while with a violin I have to tune it, tighten my bow, rosin the bow, etc. So basically I want to be musical but Im lazy.

Alright then! It's marked as accurate and ready to go. The next one on the list to be checked is:

It's about time for a new one; and a highly anticipated one at that!

The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Skyloft - [MUS] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Skyward%20Sword%20-%20Skyloft.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Skyward%20Sword%20-%20Skyloft.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Skyward%20Sword%20-%20Skyloft.pdf)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH4T38gw6Wk)[YouTube][/url]

But after this, I'm going back to Pokémon Snap. .... Hopefully.

You should go back to Pokemon Snap.

And arrange Rainbow Cloud.

Yes, just right click the file after you've downloaded it, and click 'open in', and click 'Finale', then wait for it to transcribe itself.

Rolling out a new one! This replacement had to be done because:
1) It was in the wrong key. (B minor instead of C minor)
2) The link at the bottom is completely wrong.

So here it is! What do you all think? Leave comments!

ALL RIGHT.  WE UNDERSTAND YOU LIKE MARIO AND ONLY WANT PEOPLE TO ARRANGE FROM IT.  Please stop pressuring arrangers like that, it's pretty rude.  Even if the arranger doesn't take offense, it's incredibly annoying for the rest of us to read.

I don't actually really like my arrangement of Maple Treeway..
I can't say I didn't do a good job with it, but I just don't like it.
I don't think I could do any better with it if I were to redo it, but I'm strongly considering redoing the opening for SSB.
Not only would that provide me with an MUS, but the PDF would look cleaner as well.
I might redo Maple Treeway in finale. Mostly because I'd then have an MUS and a PDF.

(And everything I redo in finale is brought up to professional standards)

It's from Final Fantasy, on PS1.

Umm I know these games about as much as I know final fantasy. No, wait, even less.
To be honest, I didn't even know these games existed.
And I've learned something (yes, the hard way): don't arrange a song you don't both know and love.
If you don't know it, getting other parts will be frustrating.
If you don't love it, you're going to dread working on it and it's not going to turn out the best.
They are indeed pleasant songs, but I don't know them at all..

Sorry for being so picky guys!

If you listen to Reshiram's theme in the opening bit it has some extra slap bass that Zekrom's doesn't. As well as some extra notes in the melody. No, there's more different than background noises.

The chords at the end of measure 2 (and a few other measures), together, don't exactly capture the sound of the original song, unless my ears deceive me. Additionally, there are a few notes that sound weird in measure 4.
Aside from those, though, it's great, in my opinion.

I can't open this on my terrible terrible phone, so I don't know wether or not you got the chords right, but since BDS says you didn't get everything right, I'll tell you the chords as I know them all by heart, and really have nothing to do on this two hour long bus ride:

For the verse ( the "I"'s indicate where the measures are):
//: G#m  I  B  I  C#7  I  Emaj7 - F#7  I  G#m  I  B  I  C#7  I  D#7sus - D#7 :// (this whole thing is done twice)

Then the second part:
C#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Emaj7  I  A#m7  I  D#7  I  G#m  I  G#7 (yes, this is actually major! :) if you're wondering why, I know the theory behind it, so just ask if you want a lesson)  I  C#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Emaj7  I  A#m7  I  A#7 (major - no theory behind this one tho, this is just how the composer wants it to be)  I  D#7sus  I  E7sus - E7  [key change]  I  Am  I  C  I  D7  I  Fmaj7 - G7  I  Am (this part basically lies in Am, but the bass goes cromatically down)  I  E7 - D#7 (and in the same measure the leading chord to the next key change is played to signalize that we're going back to G#m)  [key change]  I G#m (now we're back to the beginning)

So yeah that's the chords. If you're wondering why I know them - it's because Nimbasa City is my piano homework for tomorrow, so I have to know what to do on the improvisation part, hence I crammed them :) Besides, I have arranged this song like at least 3 times.. We're even playing my arrangement in my big band :3 Besides, it's the same chords as in Autumn Leaves, and Fly Me to the Moon..

Title: Re: JDMEK5's Arrangements (NEW! Pokémon B/W - Nimbasa City)
Post by: Jompa on February 01, 2013, 07:53:55 AM
If the chord is "impossible", try focusing on the third, the seventh, the ninth and the thirteenth in the chords - the fifth and the first isn't important at all, and in most cases the eleventh is just plain omitted (unless specified not to) :)
If you didn't understand that, then here's an example:
Am7 - the notes in the chord are A C E G. But the notes that actually have the necessary tension in them that makes them worth playing are C and G (and to some extent A) - the E and the A can just get lost (but if you don't think it's enough of a chord with just two notes, you could always just keep the A)
Another example:
Cmaj13 - the notes in the chord are C E G B(or H in some countries) D F A. The notes worth keeping are E Bb D and A, because C, G and F are the first, the fifth and the eleventh steps.
Third axample:
G7sus4(b9) - the notes are G C D F Ab. In a sus4 chord the fourth is crucial, but not necessarily the fifth (that's not the source of the tension), so the notes that are worth keeping are C F Ab (and to some extent G).
Last example:
Bb11 - The notes are Bb D F Ab C Eb. Now, in an eleventh chord the rules are sorta different: An eleventh chord isn't an eleventh chord without the eleventh! Therefore omitting the Eb would leave you with a Bb9, and that's not good enough. So in total, the notes worth keeping are D Ab C Eb.
Get it? :)

I've finally managed to take a look at your arrangement, and it looks very good! The only thing I can come up with to improve it is to focus on the right notes in the chords, so they won't be impossible to play (see what I wrote above)
Also, at measures#2 and #6: The last note in the measure is supposed to be a D#, not a C# (this also applies to measure#27, after the key change)
And the bass is a bit of a mess at some areas, measure#4, but nothing huge really.

Now, you said you wanted to know the theory behind the G#major7 chord:
That's actually a pretty nice tool to use in ("jazzy") music that goes in minor.
The song is in G#m. That's just how it is. It's in minor, and not in major. So by all of this we can say that a G#major chord isn't really welcome in the song. That is sorta true. Unless....
When a song is moving into a different part of the song, the first chord of that new part isn't normally the tonic chord, because that would be very boring. Instead, what sounds very good, is to start this new "verse" or "chorus" or whatever, on the subdominant chord -> in the case of G#m -> C#m! Now, the song doesn't change key or anything like that, not at all -> it just starts of a new part of the song with a different chord - in many songs the subdominant, and in the case of Nimbasa City, also the subdominant - which in the case og G#m -> C#m.
So the new part starts of in C#m. That isn't particularly special. As I said, most songs do that in their "B-part", and I could probably list a million children songs that do just that. But look at how the chords go in Nimbasa City, AFTER THAT.
QuoteC#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Fmaj7  I  A#m7  I  D#7  I  G#m  I  G#7  II  C#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Fmaj7  I  A#m7  I  A#7  I  D#7sus  I  E7sus - E7  II
Notice the double "II". It indicates where eight measures of the "B-part" have passed.
The chord progression is simple 251 (but without thirds leading EVERY time..). If you don't know what 251 is then here's a quote from Bloops compositions where I sparsely explained it all:
Quote from: Jompa on January 18, 2013, 03:05:45 PMY'know chord progression.
251 is a way to build up the chord progression, and you used plenty of it. It's all about dominants and thirds leading to dominants and so on.. :)

In your case:
The song is in A minor, so you chorse to start of there. The first chord change isn't anything special, it's just the minor third chord, which is C major. But C major leads to F major, because the third in C, E, leads to the first in F, F. Then F leads to Bb major, because the third in F, A, leads to the first in Bb, Bb. Can you see the pattern so far? We have C - F - Bb. If you take Bb as a starting point, in other words the 1, then C is the 2 and F is the 5 --> 251. This continues --> After the C, the F and the Bb comes Eb major. The third in Bb, D, leads to the first in Eb, Eb. F Bb Eb = 251. Then Eb leads to Ab(because of the third, G), then Ab leads to Db(because of the third, C) --> Eb Ab Db = 251. After that it goes to a C, but that isn't a part of the pattern (which you can clearly hear -> it kinda takes a weird turn at this chord -> so that means the pattern was broken). And then you're back to the start A minor.
In the case of Nimbasa City, this chord progression continues as you can see, FOR SEVEN MEASURES. IMPORTANT! VERY IMPORTANT!.
for what's closing up when you've reached seven measures? The ninth measure! Which is the next phrase - the next C#!!! BEFORE YOU CAN GET TO THE C# you need something that can lead to C#!!!!
Now - what is the leading tone to C#? Well, the note below C# is C/B# (let's call it B# from now on!). In what chord that can come out of a G#m chord, that has a B# as the third, the seventh, the ninth or the thirteenth? Well, B# is the third in G#(major), so that is the chord that will be used to lead to the C#!!!!! And in all cases of leading chords it is safe to assume that the seventh is present as well, so we can definitely know it is a G#7 chord (it could have a b13 and/or a b9, but that isn't as safe to assume, considering C# is just the subdominant, and the subdominant is very unpredictable - we're coming back to this...). Therefore the chord in measure#8, after measure#7 containing G#m, the chord playing is a G#7 chord!!
Tonika-minor -> Tonika-major-seventh
This is a common tool in minor-songs to signalize that we're going back to (emphasize on "back to" - we must have been there before!) - back to the subdominant-minor, in a "B-part" kinda. :)

And then:
You MIGHT be wondering why:
why:
why:
why:
why is there both a C#m chord (which actually is important - y'know, the subdominant and all), but as well; back at the "verse"/"A-part", there is a C#7(major) chord?!!? What the hell!!?"?!"!"**?!
Quotethe subdominant is very unpredictable
!!!
It doesn't ALWAYS follow the rules (there is a rule that says: the subdominant must follow the tonika. But that rule is terrible, it basically doesn't apply to half of the songs in the world).
Therefore it has it's own rule:
The subdominant is either minor or major, based on what sounds good! :)

AAAAAnyways, now I think I'm done with music theory for the day..
Good arrangement!! just fix it up! but it is really good! :)

^All that above, and have a good day~

Quote from: Jompa on January 30, 2013, 01:08:14 PMI can't open this on my terrible terrible phone, so I don't know wether or not you got the chords right, but since BDS says you didn't get everything right, I'll tell you the chords as I know them all by heart, and really have nothing to do on this two hour long bus ride:

For the verse ( the "I"'s indicate where the measures are):
//: G#m  I  B  I  C#7  I  Emaj7 - F#7  I  G#m  I  B  I  C#7  I  D#7sus - D#7 :// (this whole thing is done twice)

Then the second part:
C#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Fmaj7  I  A#m7  I  D#7  I  G#m  I  G#7 (yes, this is actually major! :) if you're wondering why, I know the theory behind it, so just ask if you want a lesson)  I  C#m  I  F#7  I  B  I  Fmaj7  I  A#m7  I  A#7 (major - no theory behind this one tho, this is just how the composer wants it to be)  I  D#7sus  I  E7sus - E7  [key change]  I  Am  I  C  I  D7  I  Fmaj7 - G7  I  Am (this part basically lies in Am, but the bass goes cromatically down)  I  E7 - D#7 (and in the same measure the leading chord to the next key change is played to signalize that we're going back to G#m)  [key change]  I G#m (now we're back to the beginning)

I realize now that I wrote Fmaj7 where there was supposed to be Emaj7.. Sorry, I was on my phone so I typed wrong twice when I was supposed to write F.. :(
So, the two first Fmaj7 is supposed to be Emaj7, but NOT the one AFTER the key change (the last one) :)

I wouldn't really call the one currently on site "arranged". Maybe "20% arranged".
I mean, there's supposed to be 9 pages of music, somehow fit on to 2? I think not.

Yeah, the one on site skips a few verses here and there.

Man I love this song :D

Right now the only thing I can think of is that at measure 121 when the song changes to the slow part, its also the GRAND part. Try filling it up a bit with more chords? It just seems empty to me

and yes i am listening to this whole thing

I know what you mean. That's my favorite part. But the only other option for bass that wouldn't go against the original is two eighth notes at the beginning of each measure, then one more eighth note in each measure on the last beat of said measure.
Think that'll work better?

Arranging shouldn't be about getting on the site though :P arranging should be for yourself. If you're happy with your arrangement, that's good. Just let the forum members decide which one they like better and not make an issue of it.

Deku's "Hyrule Field" starts at measure 184 by default, for example.
Happened to me once with an arrangement some time ago. You have to click on "Playback Settings" (the speaker next to the tempo), then you'll see "Playback Region", and "Current counter setting". Check it, and fixed. :)

JD, you honestly just made my day.  This song gives me chills.

About it: listen to your mp3 again.  When the song brings in Zelda's theme, it doesn't repeat that one section over and over.  Listen to it at 0:41.  Essentially, the section you have repeated in your version is only half of the song's main theme: it continues with a few notes added in, before going back to the repeat you have.

Also, in the beginning, could you add in that B natural an octave lower from the first one?  It adds a lot.  0:02 is what I'm talking about.

Great job with the harmony, it's excellent.

And I'm so sad you can't have the full Byrne's theme in the solo version!  :'(  I need a third hand.

I know this is too short to really have a place as a duet, but my goal is to arrange as many Spirit Tracks... tracks, with a two pianos version so the possibility of a dueling-piano-spirit-tracks-medley exists.

Unfortunately I couldn't get Finale to play the last chord that octave higher as it's written but that's just my tough luck I guess...
It's notated correctly so that's good enough I suppose.

Yay! :D

Couple ideas: I think the staccatos are unneeded.  They just make the song too punchy.

And could you possibly add more layers in the solo?  It kinda loses the melody, and I don't think it's disposable enough to just leave it out.

I didn't originally have the staccatos there. It sounded worse without them. It was sort of a lesser-of-evils situation.

Honestly, I might be able to but in the original it's way too quiet to have in the same hand/staff/track (whatever we're going by) as the main melody.
To have that ability to make one part super quiet while at the same time play mezzoforte? I think not. I'm afraid that's as good as it's gonna get.

NEW ARRANGEMENT!

The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Credits (Two Pianos) - [MUS] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Spirit%20Tracks%20-%20Credits%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Spirit%20Tracks%20-%20Credits%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20Of%20Zelda%20-%20Spirit%20Tracks%20-%20Credits%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.pdf)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfObTX0VjMk)[YouTube][/url]

Solo version coming soon!

Arranger's Comments:

I couldn't really get Finale to give me the playback I wanted, but all the notation for a deadly-accurate transcription is there.
I tried really hard with this one to have the dueling pianos effect, and I think it came off rather nicely.
I also tried really hard to make this playable. Which was also done well in my opinion.
This was a first-time for me in the fact that I included a fifth staff for the audience to clap. Inspiration for it came from Shadoninja's arrangement of Toad's Factory. Although I noticed that his was an added image of an extra staff added via the graphics tool. So I set about learning how to genuinely add another staff that I could hide when it wasn't being used or was left to play. I also wanted to hear it in the playback. It needed a percussion staff, as well as an individual key signature. I figured those out and also got it to play while it was hidden. If you want a tutorial on how I did all this, let me know.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it. It was quite a pain for me and I'm glad to have it done. Don't get me wrong though, I love this song.
Let me know what you think, and I'll be working on a solo version to accompany this one.

Thanks for your support!

But why? Mine is much more complete than ZU's.  Anyway, most end songs for games are just called "Staff Roll."

I tink you'll be impressed when I give you the soundtrack.

I really, really wish I had listened to later Zelda tracks. That way, I wouldn't be so biased against them.

Also, why not just go with the Soundtrack listing for a title? Seems legit to me.

See, it's not an official listing.  Mine is 100% as valid, actually more so, because it's complete, while ZU's isn't.

How did you obtain all of that? I am by no means trying to discredit you or anything, I'm just curious to know if all that info was in the rips that you did. If it came straight from the software info, then I'd say go with the listings rather than just some random youtube video.

This was not some random Youtube video.  It was in the rips, but I played through the game, 100%-ing it, making note of each new song as it came on, so that listing is quite literally every song you will hear in Spirit Tracks.  The titles conform mostly to the info in the rips, but there will occasionally be one that's so far from what it is in the game that I change it, and the rest that I changed conform mostly to the standards of other Nintendo soundtracks.  ZeldaUniverse is just another fan listing that is by no means as complete as mine.

But with regards to that, I have something to tell ask you:

I know I originally said I was gonna do the Ending from Pokemon B/W.
However, my interest in that song has weaned off quite a bit. So much in fact that I don't enjoy working on it.
So I was going to ask if maybe I could change my song to perhaps this one (to keep you from waiting) or a new choice if you'd let me.
If you'd rather me stick with the original claim, I shall do so. I'm a man of my word.

Thanks. So we've got a few options then. It's entirely your decision:

1) I could use this last one as my song for the battle.
2) Start a new one from scratch.

Option 1 would immediately eliminate the possibility of this whole thing happening again. (Not that I think/hope it will)
However, option 2 works fine with me too.

To be honest, I laughed my head off when I read this.

First of all, I'm flattered that you'd specifically choose me to arrange for you. (Because you did right?)

However, we have a "request" thread (in case you missed it, which I'm actually surprised if anyone can) for this kind of thing exactly.
Now, I cannot do these songs because I don't know the game, and I don't know the songs. (Much less like them)
But, the biggest problem is that these are in the wrong place. Because I'm so nice, I'll move them for you.

Check here (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=5599.new#new) often for anyone who could pick them up.

It's awesome!!

But the key signature is wrong, it is supposed to be Bbminor.

Measure#11 - That Bb shouldn't be parenthesized (see measure#50 below)
Measure#17 - That B natural should be a C flat
Measure#28 - That A natural should be a Bb double flat
Measure#36 - same as with measure#28
Measure#50 - that B natural should be a C flat (making the parenthesis in measure#11 unnecessary)

I know that's a song with loads of loose accidentals, but it is in B minor, so first of all change it into that.

Then over to accidentals:
-measure#3 - The Eb should be a D# because we are going from a D to an E in measure#4. And the Bb should be an A# because we are going to a B in measure#4.
-measure#4 - If the changes to measure#3 are done, the naturals to E and B don't need to be visible.
-At measure#6 there are some weird choice of accidentals here, but when the key is changed into B minor they don't matter anymore: now there probably are new accidentals that need to be fixed up:
measure#6 - this 16th run that repeats itself should be accidentalized like this: D - D# - E - E# - F#(this is already in the key) - E#(or F) - E natural - Eb - and then back to D natural. But I guess if you wanna do some other way that you find simpler, you could go with that - in these kinda cases the accidental rules sometimes kinda have to be customized for the sake of readability.
-And then finally:
When you change this into B minor you will get two sharps.
At measures 6-8 and at measures 10-12 and at 14-16 the bass goes B - C - C#
But when the sharp for C comes when you change the key, you will basically have to change these C into B#.

Other than that it is awesome!

That can't be in the right key signature... then again it's Pokemon. Other than that good job!

The tonic in the start of the song is C - however, it is minor. At measure#11 (like many other Pokémon battle themes) it changes into its variant major - C major.
So you've got the tonic right! But you missed the confusing modulation. :)

They work for me as well.

That's an awesome arrangement! I love it! :D

Just one thing though, maybe between bars 48 - 85 perhaps, change the key signature to Ab Major, since you have all those Dbs. That would eradicate most of your accidentals through that part.

Except for the part where it is still Eb major. The F is definitely the supertonic so I'm sure it's in Eb. Thanks though!

Haha yeah, hasn't been too much commentary as of late. I'll take a quick look at The End of the Chancellor, I suppose :P
It's very good. Two minute details I wanna point out, though. One, I think those two quarter note A's in bar 5 are just one half note. Two, I think it'd sound nice if you added in the last little chromatic couplet in bar 4. That is, if you put the Db-C over the 1st and 3rd notes of the 32nd note run. If you're worried about playability, you could notate it as optional.
That's all. Great job :)
Oh, and I'm really jealous of the length of this arrangement XD

You know how the top line of the melody in bar 4 goes from F up to Bb, then down a half step to A natural? Right after, it goes up to Db, then down a half step to C, still in sixteenth notes. So, you could notate that in the second layer (my first idea of just having those notes added on top of the first and third 32nd notes was stupid/probably resulting from my deep-seated hatred of having to layer in finale, disregard that).

Argh, sorry, I don't make much sense when I'm tired XD I didn't mean to disregard the comment entirely, but to disregard the original way in which I said to do it. My updated suggestion is to have, in 16th notes at the end of bar 4, Db and C written in on a second layer. If that still doesn't make sense, I'll just write it out once I get back from class.

Whoops, apparently I'm still really incoherent in the morning. I meant that the last two sixteenth notes you have written in bar 4, Db and C, are reiterated again an octave up. And to risk my point being even further diminished by my apparent inability to explain anything, I'm just gonna give you a MUS file showing what I mean. I think you should re-stable the chords so that you don't have those tight intervals so low - it makes it sound muddy, and it's hard to hear what chord it is.

The piece (not song) doesn't repeat. It's a musical show, and it's timed according to the music.

Quote from: FireArrow on October 01, 2013, 10:11:00 PMI think it would be a better idea for you to add in some of the other layers rather then octaves (they don't really add much.)
I can't really add in the other chords because that would take away from the straight tango feel I'm trying for. Thanks, but I think I'll leave the right hand the way it is.

You've got some chords at the end wrong:
Last two measures:
A7b9(b13)sus l A7b9(b13) ll
^In the second to last measure you're using a B in the chord and in the undervoice - use a Bb instead, and you're good.
^In that last measure you have a weird C in one of the voices - this has to be C#, because obviously.
^As well as that, the undervoices in these two measures are kinda weird - They look very random
^And also, there's a bunch of close intervals that collide in the deep.

It's actually B natural. I'm 110% sure. G major that gets bumped up to an A7 to lead to the D minor at the beginning again. It makes sense.

Right. Fixed.

I heard this song again and thought it would sound good as a Two Pianos arrangement. So here it is.

Pokémon Black/White Version - Castelia City (Two Pianos) - [MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20BW%20-%20Castelia%20City%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20BW%20-%20Castelia%20City%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20BW%20-%20Castelia%20City%20%28Two%20Pianos%29.pdf)  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ssYQHiTpNI)[YouTube][/url]

Time for some reverse psychology. It's fine by me if nobody says anything about this sheet.

Update:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Cremia's Carriage: - [MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20of%20Zelda%20-%20Majora%27s%20Mask%20-%20Cremia%27s%20Carriage.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20of%20Zelda%20-%20Majora%27s%20Mask%20-%20Cremia%27s%20Carriage.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93589150/The%20Legend%20of%20Zelda%20-%20Majora%27s%20Mask%20-%20Cremia%27s%20Carriage.pdf)

Now with this I had a hard time deciding how to keep the rhythm. Ultimately I moved it down an octave to make room for the melody but I'm sure there's a better way. Ideas?

Transpose the melody an octave lower in between the bass and the accompaniment, playing it with the LH, throwing especially high notes to the RH when the stretch would otherwise be impossible. This is one of my favorite textures.

I haven't heard the original, but I can comment on the notation for now:
  • There are repeated accidentals in 7 and in 8 (another reason why I hate Finale). If this were a choral arrangement, you'd want them, because singers are paying attention to different voices, but they need not be there in a piano arrangement.
  • Measure 4 and 5 should separate the half notes into quarters. I also like to use dotted quarters instead of tying to an eighth.
  • (This one is more of a stylistic choice and your method is fine) You can avoid clef changes by putting the bass notes on the LH stave and using an RH marking (or bracket); the advantage is that it preserves pitch contour.
