I realize that we have the thread for the most recent Smash games, but I'd like to talk about the other entries in the series.
particularly maylay With EVO coming up and stuff, I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there that follows the competitive scene. Who are you all rooting for next week?

My top 5 wish list:
1. Any Falcon player - Captain Falcon is the Best!
2. Leffen - cause he lives in same city as me (Stockholm).
3. Armada - same country (Sweden).
4. Mang0 - because he can do just absurd things like the video above shows.
5. Mew2King - Sick edge-guards and 0-deaths. But I don't know if he will enter.

tbh, no Falcon main is even close to being on the level to win Evo. Especially considering most of the top 6 play spacies. That matchup is just too difficult for Falcon. Also, M2k isn't entering Evo because he's being m2k. Imo top 4 will obviously be PPMD, Leffen, Armada, and Mango. I of course am hoping for the 3vo. Mango nation all the way!

In all the matches so far, there haven't been any character repeats. (6 so far)
Yeah, but consider where it was like 6 months ago with pre-patch Diddy. Smash 4 has the luxury of balance patches, and a larger pool of characters to begin with.
I'll be rooting for mah boi aMSa. I love watching him play so much.
I hope Armada takes it all, though. Hopefully we'll get to see some Peach from him...

I missed Smash 4 :/ but I heard ZeRo won, which doesn't surprise me at all. The man is just so dominant.
In other Smash related news, Top 8 is actually looking pretty good. Armada (Peach/Fox), Hungrybox (Jigglypuff), Plup (Sheik/Samus), and PPMD (Marth/Falco) are in Winners. Losers is being headed by Leffen (Fox), Axe (Pikachu), Mango (Fox/Falco/Captain Falcon), and Chudat (Ice Climbers). This is a really crazy diverse Top 8 for Melee. We've got a total of ten different characters potentially being represented, which for a game with like 3 consistently viable characters out of a pool of like 26 is almost unheard of. I can't wait to see where it goes.

I've been watching that stream. That last mango vs hb match was intense, but it kind of looses impact when you realize mango SD'd twice.
There were some really good sm4sh matches yesterday, but there were also some boring ones.
It's not that things might or might not lose impact because of somebody fucking up, it's more the inherent gameplay of smash 4 is just too slow and defensive for my tastes.
I just care about seeing these impressive plays and super fun to watch matches, and that's pretty much consistent :D
I wouldn't say that Smash 4 is slow, but it is pretty defensive and people get KO'd at much higher percents.
I guess it's just a matter of taste.

Just wanted to post a quick shout out to Project M in light of recent events. The PM Dev Team has put in a ton of work to make it a truly amazing game. For those of you who don't know, the PMDT suddenly announced last night that Project M has ceased development and that there will be no further updates. It's hard to stomach considering how close it was to reaching its final "gold" version, but for now all we can do is continue to play the game as it is. I hope PM community lives on despite the heavy blow it has just taken. I know I won't be putting this game down any time soon. :)
Y it's weird, it came so sudden. But yes PMDT has done an incredible work with making the game. Definitely my favorite smash game!

...In actuality, Link's airgame is shit and any sort of skill I have with him comes from the fact that I know him inside and out.

I've started playing ganon and it makes me feel bad inside
I was playing randos with my university's Sm4sh group and I got Cloud, and there was a Robin and a Ganon. We were the last three still standing, and I hit both of them with a limit break neutral B which launched them a decent distance, and the Ganon decided to Side-B back to the stage just as I hit the Robin with a Sword Beam, so he connected with Ganon right by the ledge...
But it was too late.

Apparently we're going to set up weekly tournaments here in my college, and maybe probably stream them. The best guy we've got on campus is ranked 8th in Pittsburgh, but, to put that into perspective, the #1 guy in Pittsburgh is ranked 49th worldwide. I'll probably attempt and miserably fail.

The #1 ranked Melee player in my region (Stockholm) is arguably #1 in the world, lol. Still, it's worth playing against really good people, you'll learn how to play "better" when playing with tougher opponents.

So there is a tournament now in Gothenburg (Sweden) called BEAST 7. The biggest tournament-series in Europe (you could say). Last year I think we had over like 600 or maybe even 700 people attending the tournament. And this time I still think we have many people there, but I'm not attending so I don't care much.
But to get to the point. Isai won the Smash 64 tournament but this day there are more important tourneys, namely the Sm4sh tournamnet and the Melee tournament. I'm more interested in the Melee one. I prefer actually Sm4sh. It feels "Newer" and has more characters, more balance and ... it just feels more "fresh". But I am more intressted in the results of the Melee tournament. And that is because Both Leffen and Armada are participating! So it's a bit of rivalry between Stockholm (Swedish east-coast) and Gothenburg (Swedish west-coast). Leffen is from Stockholm and Armada is from Gothenburg. And I'll cheer for Leffen, being from Stockholm. But... I got a "bad" feeling that Armada will win this... Because... the tournament is in His home town. So.. he pretty much got some "home field advantage". But ... it is as it is... Leffen might like win some other day, when nobody expects him to win, like beating Mang0 and Armada at Beast 5, and then beating like everyone in the USA (Except PP, lol). But if Armada wins the singles, I'm pretty sure that Ice and Leffen will win Teams. Like Armada and Android winning teams And Armada winning singles.. feels too good to be true. But we'll see what happens.
The Sm4sh tournaments are also exiting this year. Usually Stockholm has been The Only place where we had good smashers from. I mean to the point where I was called "The Best Dark Pit in Sweden". And I was like... I don't even win tournaments and is called "Best Dark Pit in Sweden". I mean .. .doesn't make any sense, really. But this time the Swedish crew battles in Sweden were Stacked! There were so many good players there, it's crazy! And we'll see who takes it in Sm4sh. I think Mr. R will win, but maybe there is someone who can challenge him for the golden 1st place. Idk. I haven't kept up much with the Sm4sh scene in Europe. :D
Fun tournament! Hope I'll have a chance in Summer in participating in a Smash tournament. I've been too busy working, atm. :D

Do you guys think that in a new Smash Bros, there should be a function where instead of changing the character's color, you should be able to change the different versions of the character, like for Link, you can do versions like Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, or even Breath of the Wild

Given that I've read that SSBB's Zelda designs are explicitly based on specific games' designs (I forgot whether it was Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess), I don't think this will happen. They'll probably think "too much effort to make all those character models".
I bet they were exhausted after making all the Koopalings for SSB4.
Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are their Twilight Princess versions. (Though you can change Link to resemble the Fierce Deity version of Link from Majora's Mask.)
I think they'll put more effort into the next smash game than they did for Smash 4, just because it'll be restricted to one console again. Hopefully that means more effort into better costumes and game modes and stuff too. Like Link, for example, might have the BotW skin in addition to the classic one. Maybe we'll get that cool Mewtwo skin from the movie too.

Most fighting games come with >20 characters. Besides, which would you rather have, more characters, or new skins? They chose the latter, and ran with it. If you want skins, go for mods. I'm implying that a lot of content had to be cut to span both the Wii U version and the 3DS version. Brawl had Subspace Emissary and a pretty good single player mode. Smash 4 does not. Also, all of the sound effects with the exception of DLC and new characters were reused from Brawl. I have to give them a hand for making new stages though, but I feel like the development process from Melee to Brawl was much more productive than the one from Brawl to Smash 4, even though the time between releases was nearly the same.

I read that Sora Ltd. cut SSE/story mode from SSB4 because they hated the spoiler cycle that resulted from SSBB's SSE.
I think the biggest content that got cut to span both Wii U and 3DS versions was the Ice Climbers. I wouldn't mind seeing those guys again, even if I suspect mains of their SSBB incarnation could get good enough to beat optimally played Meta Knight mains more than 50% of the time (and Meta Knight got banned from SSBB tournaments at points for being too good, and that guy ended up in 1st place in every single SSBB tier list while 2nd place changed more often).
