Title: The Kirby's Epic Yarn Unofficial Arrangement Project!
Post by: Nebbles on January 21, 2016, 08:54:06 PM
The Kirby's Epic Yarn soundtrack is really good, and while we have a nice chunk of arrangements on site, I feel like the rest of the OST deserves the same treatment. So, in hopes of this feat being accomplished... let's throw together an unofficial arrangement project! I believe we have it in us to do this!

For some odd reason, the playlists I've been finding on YouTube don't include Prologue and Ending, but they've already been arranged, so it hopefully shouldn't be an issue? If it is, just bring it up in here and we'll work it out. If you think any other songs on-site need to be fixed, feel free to say so.

I do want to assist with this. However it may be some time before I am able to, and I don't know how good the arrangements will be since I'm not as good at arranging harmonic stuff as I am melodic. Tentatively put me down for Rainbow Falls though... and hell, why not Mt. Slide and Snowy Fields while I'm at it.............. I'll get these

Hm, unless Dudeman wants to submit that to the project, should I let Zeila have the claim for now? You two can discuss that if you'd like.

I have quite a few unfinished KEY sheets, for that matter. Most of the links are broken though, I think. I'll get around to fixing those if peeps want to take a look.

I think that should work out fine. If not, then you could post the zip or mus link that people posted so that when they update their sheets it would be updated on the OP faster (like with the Undertale UAP)

Secret Island and Kirby's Pad are quite a ways in progress, and I have an old Mushroom Run arrangement in Noteflight that I was going to port over to Finale. I was hoping to do Vs. Meta Knight too, but it's very difficult, so if Zeila wants it (especially since her other claim is Secret Island) she can keep it.

There are a few others too, but I haven't gotten very far in those (and they aren't my priority anyways), so I think I'll let the rest slide.

I'll upload them when I get home to my computer.

O_O Well crud. I wasted a day finishing Kirby's Pad... I imagine yours is better, so I'll withdraw that and Mushroom Run. Ummm... I suppose I'll just claim Outer Rings, then, but I won't complete it in a day. I say that with 100% certainty. I'm going to be working on my Mario Kart 8 arrangements first, but I will get to World 5: Snow Land and Outer Rings afterward (unless someone has them both claimed :P)

All right, now that I'm back on my own computer I have access to my in-progress KEY arrangements, and I've uploaded them:

Kirby's Pad
[MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqszte3q9olb7lo/Kirby%27s%20Pad.musx?dl=0&s=sl)

Secret Island
[MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/2gi0y5wyx8vbt3n/Secret%20Island.musx?dl=0&s=sl)

The transcription of Kirby's Pad is finished, though I'm still going to make the playback work for those arpeggios (which are hella weird looking btw), as well as add pedal.

I'm not very sure about the notes and/or rhythms in measures 1-3, 21-22, 32-33, and 37-38, or the key signature in general. On another note, I'll take Halberd

Oh, and I'll take Gourmet Race, vs. Fangora, & Big-Bean Vine (as I'm seeing a lot of time freeing up for me in the near future). I may take more in the future, but that won't be until I've finished some of the songs that I've already claimed.

Nice! Some spelling error I noticed: 90% of the time where you have used a C# and a F#, there should be a Db or Gb instead. For example measure 13, the chords are quartal chords, and should be spelled as 4ths. Also keep in mind the scale, phrygian/locrian, with C-Db-Eb-F-(Gb)-G-Ab-Bb, with that said I makes more sense to use Db and Gb.

The only times where you should keep the sharps you used are the measures: the chromatic run m. 29 (use sharps and naturals here if possible, and keep the quartal voicing), the solo m.33-35 (I think F# is better here).

Also measure 33 needs a bit fixing, the tie from Bb goes to A. I think it's better to show the triplet with a bracket, I assume it's the two 8ths and the two 16ths that are in the triplet.

And measure 32 should have a sextuplet rather than 2 triplets.

So, I think it was a bad idea trying to get back to arranging Fountain Gardens after a 2-week hiatus. Now I'm fretting over stuff going on in school, and I don't think I have the time or drive to do a long, orchestral arrangement such as this one. I'm revoking Fountain Gardens (and Tankbot too, while I'm at it).

Tomorrow and the next day are finals. Then, after that is the 30 Hour Famine, so chances are, Gourmet Race won't be seen until Monday or Tuesday. I'm almost finished; I have to add articulations & fix the LH (I screwed up about a third-quarter of it).

You can put the outer rings back up for grabs. I have zero motivation to finish it, and it's looking like that isn't changing anytime soon.

You really should not expect anyone to be able to play that left hand part the whole way through.

That LH is gonna be, if not close to impossible, pretty painful. I'd recommend taking the low notes up an octave or the dyads down.
Title: Re: The Kirby's Epic Yarn Unofficial Arrangement Project!
Post by: E. Gadd Industries on April 04, 2016, 12:51:04 PM
I thought I did? Let me see what I uploaded..
EDIT: Yeah, I moved the dyads down an octave. What else could I do without destroying the song?
Title: Re: The Kirby's Epic Yarn Unofficial Arrangement Project!
Post by: Altissimo on April 04, 2016, 01:24:15 PM
No, I mean move it down/up from what it is. That jump is way too hard.
Title: Re: The Kirby's Epic Yarn Unofficial Arrangement Project!
Post by: E. Gadd Industries on April 04, 2016, 02:49:18 PM
Is there a tactic you recommend? If I shift them any further by an octave, they'll overlap and such, but (as far as I know), if I shift them by anything other than an octave, the LH will sound off.

Title: Re: The Kirby's Epic Yarn Unofficial Arrangement Project!
Post by: Altissimo on April 04, 2016, 06:14:36 PM
my vote goes to the second one, regardless of whether the first is "playable" it's a) not comfortable and b) hard to read because of all the ledger lines

Well, the two versions are there, and I'll get back on my PC tomorrow once I get back from the flea market (my parents are actually setting up -_-). Whichever version seems to be the most favorably spoken of concernin the official version will be picked. I'll slit the RH phrases (as PDS suggested), and depending on which version is picked, I'll add the 8va basso.

Ta-da! Here's Green Greens for ya (smells like freshly mown grass!): [MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108749630/Arrangements/Green%20Greens.mus)

It will most likely need some fixes in harmony, articulation and such (I'll leave the nitty gritty details for later), and I've omitted voices in some places to make it easier to play. But overall I'm pleased with it, it's one big bundle of joy. ^^

Quick thing - Jun Ishikawa should also be listed under the composer info because this is based off of the composition from the original Kirby's Dream Land.

I don't really know what to do about some of the ledger lines, and ik m19-26 are actually different the 2nd time, but I had it repeat for playability reasons and also to save space. There are other spots that are questionable, but if they're okay then great! If not, then I can take out some of the notes. Also, some enharmonic spellings are probably off

On the PDF's author, the Halberd's theme was composed by Jun Ishikawa and Dan Miyakawa (the composers who worked on Kirby Super Star, which is where the theme originally came from), not Tomoya Tomita. This version is arranged by Tomoya Tomita, though.

Some notes..

-When playing this, it is crucial that you pay as much attention to which notes are stacatto and which ones aren't. Because the baseline is the Harpsichord, it makes all the more difference in sound when listening to it and playing it.
-In the beginning of the song, there's an impossible scale to play where each note is a 32nd note, and after that there is a series of F, E Flat, and E Natural notes. My advice for this part is to play as much as you can for the first measure, and for the F, Eb, and E notes, you can either trill them without counting, or you can do a chord with the three notes each measure it is in.

Let me know what I did right and what I did wrong, or if I should add anything. It was fun being a part of this project :)

Boy oh boy, did I forget about finishing this. Back in February I the first three measures for this one, so during camp, I thought I'd complete it when I got home. I'm kinda glad I stalled so long, because it would have been a nightmare to do nearly 6 months prior to now.

I need feedback on this before I post it in my PA. It's not often that I do sheets in this style.

Kirby's Epic Yarn - World 5: Snow Land.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/qwhublj407irf70/Kirby%27s%20Epic%20Yarn%20-%20World%205%20Snow%20Land.zip?dl=1)

If this song was already purely piano, I'll bet it would have been on-site years ago.

I'm happy to participate in this unnofficial arrangement project! I might even do Future City and a few others, too! ;)

Hey, awesome to see you branching out from chiptune tracks! I can't check things in depth right now, but here are a few things I can suggest while doing a quick listen:
- Personal preference, but bumping everything down one measure per system would make everything line up much nicer.
- You're missing an F in the RH on beat 3 of measure 2.
- No parentheses on the D in measure 7 and likewise - that's part of the melody and definitely needs to be re-struck.
- Spell m. 18 and 26 with flats instead.
- It's good that you have the voices separated in different layers, but that causes things to look unnecessarily awkward in places - for instance measure 14. Since there is pedal there wouldn't be a discernible difference if you shortened the chord a little bit to make room for the pickup eighth note, and that would look cleaner.
- Why do you have pedal changes every two measures instead of every measure?
- m. 19-20 - that first F sounds like part of the melody so I would put it in that layer. Additionally the other two F's in that layer seem redundant, so I think it might be better if you just wrote out the melody by itself in one layer here.
- You should be more clear about your dynamics - if you're going with separate hand dynamics, the LH doesn't get any at all, and the RH ones are confusing at best - the mp is floating high above m.7, and it transitions to... still mp in m. 22? Clarify and simplify a bit. One recommendation I would make is to have a simple mp in between the staves at m.7.

There's more than I can get to with my limited time right now, but you're doing well! I like this sheet!

^^ other than that, I have two comments

- On beat 3 of m2, the rolled chord should also have a D in between the G and F, and maybe you could extend the B to the RH staff
- You don't need to put 'con pedale' if you also put visible pedal markings, and an easier way to write them would be through the custom line tool. If you check the smart shape options under the tab and change the smart lines from glissando to custom line, there are a lot of options to choose from

Nice work :3

Gonna bump this now because we actually have finished a surprising amount of the OST and we're not too far off from finishing the whole thing!

The following tracks are open for arrangement, to anyone interested in helping out:

Yes, please do!

Also, I forgot to mention: if you have any finished KEY sheets, submit them when you can! Especially if you have multiple sheets!

You know who you are.

I'll also take care of Vs. King Dedede, since Nutella doesn't seem to plan on finishing it. Also, it's one of my favorite VGM tracks in existence.

Hello! I just stumbled upon this post when I was looking for Kirby's Epic Yarn music to help me learn / get better at piano. However, when I click on any of the dropbox links it gives me a 404 error. Is all of this sheet music just lost to history? If not, where can I find this? I know that this thread hasn't been active in a while, but I hope someone can help me find it because I would love to try playing all of this wonderful music! Also, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find sheet music for Bubbly Clouds. I see that it is in black text, but maybe there's one out of site? Any help would be great, so thank you in advance!

Hello! Check our Kirby section (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Kirby) on the main site and see if you can find what you're looking for. It seems like maybe you found the forums first without noticing the site that hosts them.

I figured that this thread has gone long enough without a necrobump, so here I am!

[Wii] Kirby's Epic Yarn - "Future City"

[ZIP] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/chgji3x4b7af7dg/Kirby%27s%20Epic%20Yarn%20-%20Future%20City.zip?dl=1)

I wasn't confident enough to do this one back when I first claimed it, but I looked at it again recently and gave it my best shot. Unless my plans change (and they always do,) I'm aiming to submit this one for the next update! Hopefully this one is a little more polished than "World 5: Snow Land" was a couple years ago...

This is what I said three years ago. Now, it is Christmas Day, 2020.

Let's revive this, shall we?

Since the last time the OP was updated:
I also found out that the in-game sound test lists the world titles as simply "Grass Land," "Hot Land," "Treat Land," etc. without the "World X" in front. I changed the titles on-site and will also change it on the sheet files soon.

In the meantime, here's what's left to arrange (I'm assuming that all four-year-old claims have expired unless otherwise addressed):
(Vs. Tankbot is virtually identical to Mint Breath from Kirby's Dream Land, which is located in the Miscellaneous Short Themes arrangement, so I didn't include it.)

Admittedly, the tracks that are left aren't particularly easy, but they can definitely be done! Would be great if people would be interested in trying their hand at arranging one or two of these remaining ones. Even if it takes us another four years, I think we can get it done.

I would be down to do Dark Manor! Totally the right season for it lol.

So with these unofficial projects are these just expected to be submitted like a regular submission?

I'm not too familiar with the actual game, but I think the "World X" is rather helpful...

I think that, seeing as this project has now been revived, we should consider arranging the new music written for Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn on the 3DS. The credits listed sound team members Akihiro Juichiya and Soshiro Hokkai as presumed composers. One of them might have been only in charge of sound effects, but we don't know for sure at the moment.

I'll volunteer to take on this theme:

There's a few other tracks added to the port, but I'm pretty sure this one is the only original song. I'll work on tracking down the new music; I don't own this port of the game, but I'm sure the Kirby Wiki Discord server would know more about this.
