I am currently in the proccess of building my computer gaming system. So far, it's cost me $360 for the case, power supply, and ram... I'm getting the motherboard soon...but I need more money. This was going to be more expensive than I thought.
Here's a pic

Woah, same case I got! Except no green, and I don't have a logo on top, plus the big fan on top stopped working after running for a minute and is fried, and no where in my town sells that size!
Mine cost 2050, but its been mounting even more because of shipping costs because a faulty sound card fried TWO motherboards. I'm currently waiting on my 2nd motherboard to come back, I'm going to post pics when I get it running.
How much Ram did you get?
Also, just to discourage you, building my PC has been the absolute worst experience of my life, its been a total nightmare.
I've actually done so much research, that I don't think I would run into the same problem.
I currently have high-performance Cas latency 3 Ram....and 2 gigs of it. DDR2-800.
I'm ordering the motherboard on ebay today if all goes well. (It's new).
I want to overclock it alot, I'm gonna have so much fun with it... :D
The case I have is the nvidia edition of the Antec 900. That's why it's different. And it cost me $60 just to say that...worth it?
I did research too, just the sound card metal was bent somehow. It must have been touching the motherboard or something.
I just moved a wireless network card from my computer to my sister's, does that count?
No. :P
Shipped the sound card today, I had to ship it in a box for a glass dog. I didn't have anything else, they better accept it. :P
Quote from: Concerto No.20 in D minor on March 14, 2008, 02:16:47 PMNo. :P
Damn. Better go rip off the sound card from my dad's computer then.
damn...i wouldn't even get past the process of buying things! VERY COOL! i hope it gets done soon...and hope you have enough money :P
I've helped my dad build multiple computers, but I haven't done any of the selection of stuff. What I did do was the actual building and installing of hardware/software

Yea, I don't think anyone but the manufacture of the parts can do that. It involves pcb, lead, solid state capacitors, and alot of copper, not to mention the sockets for everything else. It would be rather hard.
;P
But yeah, I would never venture into building actual parts, unless I had ALL the materials + equipment + the knowledge to even do it.
Besides, I would probably build a piece of crap compared to all of the really nice products that are out right now. :P
P.S. I love ebay.
You know what I mean :P
But my dad does make parts literally :P

That's pretty awesome, what company does he work for? I bet I've at least heard of it. But I know most of them.
So I'm wondering, I got the 8800 GTS 640mb (by accident, I was tricked!)
EVGA offers a trade up program, send it in and pay the difference. It would be another 300 for the brand new 9800 GX2 (TWO GPUs!) which would be probably 70% better.
I think I'm going to do it.
When did you buy the gts? I see you are up to date on video card tech :) 9800gx2 just came out today! W00t!
I bought the GTS by accident, I wanted a GT but I was fine with it.
Though now I can trade it in a pay the difference, which I am certainly going to do. I want Crysis on MAX!!!
woot I sent in my Step Up request! I can't wait.
Apparently my motherboard is lost somewhere. Damn. Oh well, I've waited more than a month already, I can wait more.
OOh, I just ordered my motherboard! I cant wait till it comes! This is better than christmas!

This is THE best motherboard for single card solutions. It is also THE best at overclocking! :D
I love the color of that board, but its cooling system isn't as cool looking as others.

I have $50 coming in the mail (mail in rebate), and my brothers owe me $65. I currently have $60...so that's...$175 total. I's $10 short for my processor...dang it...
this is called budgeting

Yo
Just got my mobo in today, man does it look cool in my case, will get some pics today
....
They've shipped my GX2.
Wow, mine is already obsolete. They just released 3 more versions of the GX2 for like the same price. Or are they just overclocked editions?

Most Likely, I wouldn't buy the over clocked editions, I would just do it myself. Are you running vista, or xp?
I'm going to be running XP?
Also, I don't have an XP disc, would you trust a torrent version of XP?
Quote from: Harvest on March 14, 2008, 07:53:33 AMAlso, just to discourage you, building my PC has been the absolute worst experience of my life, its been a total nightmare.
Same here. I had built my own PC back in 2004 because I was in an apartment on my own to finish my last year of High School. It cost me 3000$ and out of the computers I got, it was the ones with the most problems. I kept having driver problems for my video card causing blue screens of death, my motherboard fried a week after I got it, after copying or downloading something, if the file size was large (over 300megs) it would take forever for it to copy and if its downloading it would freeze at 99% for like 15 minutes. Later I got a laptop and gave that computer to my parents to put in the family room. A few months ago it died because the motherboard fried and they don't make that model anymore or any motherboards that support what I had, making that computer the computer with the less life we've ever had.
I got my GX2. It is massive.
This better work or I'm selling everything and then killing myself.
Ill buy it ;)
ugh omg.
I installed XP on my PC.
When I boot it gets stuck at "Verifying DMI Pool Data" I tried every fucking thing out there and it wont boot!
What the fuck do I do?
Did you try reinstalling it? Have you had the problem before? How old is the hard drive? What Motherboard are you using?
My guess is the hard drive. Or it's a borked install of XP.
Google is your friend.
QuoteIssue:
Computer stops at verifying dmi pool data.
Cause:
This issue can be caused by any of the below reasons.
1. Corrupt boot files on the computer.
2. Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.
3. Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue.
4. Boot devices not set properly.
5. BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.
6. Connections loose or disconnected.
7. Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.
Solution:
Corrupt boot files on the computer
If the computer has no bootable files on the drive it is attempting to boot from it is possible that the computer may halt at " verifying dmi pool data...".
To resolve this issue:
* Boot from a bootable floppy diskette. Ensure that this diskette was made on the same Microsoft Windows operating system that is installed on your computer.
* Once at the A:\> prompt type "sys c:" and press enter. This should report the message "File system transferred". Once transferred remove the diskette and reboot the computer.
If the computer continues to not boot attempt to re-create the master boot record by booting from the bootable floppy diskette again. Once at the A:\> prompt type "fdisk /mbr" and press enter. This should return you to the prompt without giving you any message. Once at the prompt remove the diskette and reboot the computer.
Additional information about the "fdisk /mbr" command can be found on document CH000175.
Note: The above information only applies to Microsoft Windows users. If you are running a Linux / Unix variant or other operating system such as OS/2 and the computer is freezing at this DMI message ensure that Linux / Unix has been properly installed first and/or your boot manger is not corrupt.
Settings for hard disk drive are not correct
The computer freezing at "verifying dmi pool data..". may be caused when the hard disk drive settings within CMOS are not set properly. Enter CMOS and verify that the hard disk drive settings are set properly and/or that it is set to Auto Detect.
Additional information about CMOS can be found on our CMOS help page.
Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue
Verify no floppy diskette or CD is in the computer. In some cases the computer may be trying to boot from either of these drives causing issues with the boot sequence.
Boot devices not set properly
The computer stopping at " verifying dmi pool data..." can be caused when the boot devices on your computer are not set properly in CMOS. First, verify that no CD or diskette is in your computer. If a CD or diskette is in the computer attempt to remove this first to determine if it was attempting to boot from it.
If No CD or diskette is in the computer and your computer still halts at the DMI message enter CMOS and verify that the boot options are set properly. We commonly recommend that the floppy be set the first boot device, hard drive as the second boot device and the CD-ROM as the third boot device.
Additional information about CMOS can be found on our CMOS help page.
BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly
If none of the above recommendations have resolved your issue attempt to reset the BIOS / CMOS settings to the factory or default settings.
Additional information about CMOS can be found on our CMOS help page.
Connections loose or disconnected
If the computer has been recently moved or new hardware has been installed in the computer it is possible that a connection may be loose or even disconnected. Verify that the hard disk drive, floppy and CD-ROM cables are properly connected.
Bad hard disk drive or other bad hardware
If you computer continues to freeze at the DMI message after attempting all of the above recommendations it is possible that the computer may be freezing because of a bad hard disk drive or other bad hardware in the computer.
Before replacing any hardware we first recommend you attempt to fdisk, delete the partition, re-create the partition and reinstall your computer operating system. Additional information about this process can be found on document CH000186.

I'm not fucking stupid. Of course I used google.

Guys, its working.
I must say, its freaking amazing. Seriously, I am totally blown away.
Ok, so since I'm running XP it only lets me run on High settings. But there was some thing where you change the cfg file to let you run very high. I did that, and it says that everything that says high is now very high. Ok so I'm running this on these supposed very high settings though I can't tell if I am but I did notice an improvement with shadows and such when changing. Running in 1680x1050.
Runs smoothly!!!!!!
Crysis is one of the best games I have ever played! though it is a little tough, I'm on easy and it is still a little hard.
You guys must all be geniuses. I have no clue about any of this.
