Title: Skyward Sword
Post by: DrP on July 03, 2010, 10:42:03 PM
I wanna know everyone's thoughts on the new Zelda game (even though it won't be released for sometime... like Pokémon Black and White).

I love the fact that the sword is basically an extention of the arm with MotionPlus (which works on SMG 2 suprisingly)

I do like the new control scheme thanks to wii motion plus. Fighting on Twilight Princess on the wii version could get pretty annoying, which is why I played the gamecube version instead. The new items looks nice as well. One thing I'm not really liking are the kinda but kinda not cell-shaded graphics. I'd rather they just keep the same amount of realism in the graphics they used is TP as well as making them look better.

I just really hope it comes with a wii motion plus device. If so, I'm sold.

I'm pretty excited this time, but I should try to keep things to a minimum. Usually the games I preorder and whatnot turns into a disappointment xD

Anyhoo, I do like Impressionist Art, but the game doesn't seem as dark as I'd like. The woods are like something from a children's cartoon, when the initial art suggested it was going to be rated T or something.

One thing though, if there's the Master Sword, does it mean we see Ganondorf? lol.

theres no way ill pay 20 dollars for motion plus, unless likes you said, it came with it.

im not a huge fan of the cell-shaded graphics, i really loved TP graphics and i believe they were the best of all the zelda games (even including skyward sword), but i wont mind when im playing. its still a great zelda game!

I've had pretty good luck with preordering games (Bowsers Inside Story and Pokemon Platinum and SoulSilver)

The art is leaning more toward that of WindWaker, but with a more realistic looking setting and stuff, like a mixture between WindWaker and Twilight Princess

And if there's a master sword, then master sword=ganondorf (just look at spirit tracks, you had Malladus and a Spirit Sword, the master sword only applies to Ganon/Ganondorf)

Definitely very painterly. If it had looked more like the leaked artwork, I would be much happier I think. I am looking forward to leaping off that cliff! :D

Well I want Link to fight some really, really scary looking bosses, so I hope they'll consider that. I'll be fine with cutesy drawings if that's the case.

I, too, was disappointed in eharing that the new Zelda game was cell-shaded. I was looking forward to a more Twilight Princess-like kind of look. They said that the graphics would be improved somewhat, so I was wondering how they would improve from TP. sadly I guess I wont be seeing a new, more realistic looking zelda game.. :/ maybe next time. so, all in all, I hope this game changes my mind. hopefully the new graphics/storyline.bosses/gameplay/etc will be worth it! so, those are some of my thoughts on SS.

Post by: HugoMeister on July 04, 2010, 05:08:08 PM
I think the graphics and wii motion plus are perfectly fine. Of course, I was hoping for a game that was darker than MM, but this works too.

Speculations of story points or anything anyone? I'll start then.

*watch out, I might spoil some things if you don't know about it*

So since the game tells the story of how the master sword came to be, I'm hoping for some Windwaker elements to return, specifically the sages of Earth and Wind, as they were required to give the sword its powers.

We know that Link lives above the clouds, in a floating continent, so I'm going to assume the return of the Oocoa (or however you spell it) and perhaps even Valoo, the sky dragon.

Link discovers that Hyrule lies beneath his land, he uses the Skyward Sword to travel between the two worlds, and he eventually figures out why the two worlds exist separately. Eventually his Skyward Sword becomes the Master Sword we know and love today.

My first speculation, the one I'm absolutely convinced of right now, is that during the course of the game the two worlds will join together, and that this union (that of wind and earth) results in the power of the Master Sword. To keep this power strong, each world gains a sage that has the ability to ask the gods for their continued assistance.

If the above is true, then I'm hoping music will play an important element once again. In the Windwaker, the Harp and Violin were required, so I'm hoping for more backstory on those, and possibly the addition of others.

What do you guys think?

Post by: DrP on July 04, 2010, 05:30:39 PM
With what you described is great, especially the music part! I have a feeling its going to be great.

ive been reading in a bunch of places that Skyward Sword is gonna take place before Ocarina of Time (which in turn took place before everything else). I hope the gameplay takes mysterious turns that no one would expect (I always love that in a game)

The graphics are using the new graphics technologies of Twilight Princess (with improvements with new technology developments) and the cell-shading similar to that of Wind Waker and the future DS series that spun off the Wind Waker Branch from Ocarina (the other being the Majora's Mask/Twilight Princess/Link to the Past Branch)

Ruto: I love the picture, it does give a change of pace for the regular zelda graphics... I did however like the "Zelda 2010" poster with those graphics a little better for this situation

Nana1Popo2: Maybe the zelda game after LoZ:SS will be the most realistic of them all (and please, I need a new storyline, like Spirit Tracks [but that had minor changes to the basic storyline])
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: SuperFireKirby on July 05, 2010, 12:58:39 PM
Referring back to the one poster of Link that was revealed way back when, Link was carrying some kind of fairy/spirit. I'd bet that's either the wind or earth spirit. Probably wind if it were a choice between the two. Now seeing this is the creation of the master sword, I'm doubting the wind and earth temples are in existence yet, and if so, they're on the two different worlds(Hyrule and Oocoa).

Now I'm thinking that if that figure in the poster is in fact the wind spirit, Link has to take him/her down to Hyrule and unite it with the earth spirit, which may be in the Earth Temple dungeon.

Now seeing as there has been some kind of instrument or musical element in very console Zelda since OoT(excluding Majora's Mask) ex. Ocaraina, Wind Waker, Howling, I'm betting that Link will probably have some kind of music making device or ability this time around as well. Whether either the wind or earth spirit has an instrument is a possibility.

Yah I have to agree. Need my 'Zelda' fix...

On a completely unrelated topic, I'm thinking of doing some fanart of the new game or any of the old ones. Mind posting a screenshot of your liking since I can't seem to decide? I will either use oil, acrylic, pencil, colored pencil or do a digital painting, depending on preference (yours or mine). I'm going to be hyped for this game too. I'm safe from disappointment since this is Zelda, right? :D

probably something around 1:27 on this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dYgrMz_XBI

And of course, all zelda games are safe from disappointment (even majora's mask was pretty cool)

I like an occasional break from usual storyline! there was just alot of stuff to do (and the whole deadline thing was pretty cool to work with, though it took some getting used to)

And Spirit Tracks was amazing! Better than Phantom Hourglass, by far (but my favorite handheld zelda game is Link's Awakening... again, refreshing adventure NOT in Hyrule)

Title: Re: Skyward Sword

I think they should have developed Spirit Tracks for a console. I'd like to see New Hyrule in all its glory before seeing it simplified into flat terrain and stuff. The game wasn't bad but I really hated the bunny quest because it's just so damn hard to see anything sometimes :D

Regarding the screenshot at 1:27, are you talking about the one showing the overworld or the one with Link fighting in the dungeon? I think they both happen at 1:27.

Oh yeah, Linebeck made PH amazing  ;D

Spirit Tracks is better than Phantom Hourglass, but that does't mean it's a good game. I didn't enjoy playing SP. I'm in then final dugeon since January, so yeah.

And MM was not a masterpiece, but it was good imho.

My favorite handheld was probably Oracle of Seasons. But my favorite's list goes:

1.Ocarina of Time

2. Wind Waker

3. Link to the Past(best 2-d Zelda, hands down)

4. Twilight Princess

5. The original Legend of Zelda

Anyways, is there a set release date for Skyward Sword yet?

I forgot about the Oracles... they were pretty nice!

I'm with you on your list (except im not really enamored with the original (though originals have a certain quality you cant dismiss them as great) because it took me less than a day to beat and there is so much else to do in other games... so my #5 would go to Oracle of Seasons and #6 would be LoZ)

The release date is sometime in 2011, that's all I know

Ha, I have to buy a Wii to play it, so it can take its time...

Fan art wise, I'll be able to start tomorrow or hopefully Friday, but I think I will play around with the screenshot a bit. Such as reducing the size of the ledge Link is standing on, increasing the size of the background and then changing Link's pose a bit.

Another side note, I've bought all the Zelda mangas in English in May and they came in yesterday. Just after a few weeks after I filed a claim and got the refund for them. And after I placed a second order for the mangas in a different store. Two copies. -__-

Keep in mind that the graphics render for TP was actually the WW render, just modified. For SS, it's like they went halfway.
And also, SS is rumored (emphasis on rumored) to be released this fall, but Nintendo probably won't say anything until E3.

Topic being bumped for a new press release!!!

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 17, 2011 - Nintendo's celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zeldaâ,,¢ series continues in full force with the announcement that The Legend of Zeldaâ,,¢: Skyward Sword will launch in North America on Nov. 20. The epic adventure, created from the ground up for the Wiiâ,,¢ console, sends this storied series to new heights and marks a turning point for the franchise.

The game uses the precision motion controls of the Wii Remoteâ,,¢ Plus (or a Wii Remote controller with a Wii MotionPlusâ,,¢ accessory) and Nunchukâ,,¢ controllers to map on-screen action to the player's movements. When a player swings the Wii Remote Plus controller, Linkâ,,¢ appears to swing his sword in exactly the same way.

Different enemies have different battle tactics, so players must analyze their approach and develop counterattacks that play on the enemies' weaknesses. The game's wide array of items also use full motion controls, letting players roll bombs, shoot arrows and guide flying objects like never before.

The game includes a massive, multilayered world that takes players from dark dungeons to a diverse overworld to cloud cities in the sky, requiring a combination of puzzle-solving and swordplay to unlock all of its secrets. Link soars through the air on the wings of a majestic bird while exploring the game's sky area, providing players with unprecedented freedom of movement as they progress on their adventure. The quest lays the foundation for the events in The Legend of Zeldaâ,,¢: Ocarina of Timeâ,,¢, which is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time.

"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the biggest game in the series yet," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "We've just scratched the surface of this massive experience, and we look forward to sharing additional details with fans as we approach the Nov. 20 launch."

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is now available for pre-order at major retailers throughout North America. A deposit may be required for pre-orders. See individual retailers for details. For more information about the game, visit http://www.zelda.com/skywardsword/.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/wii.

What do you think is the hardest battle in the game? So far, I think it's when you have to fight 3 stalfos all at the same time. I nearly died. IMO, Bokoblins are a close second. (They're so smart... >:()
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: DrP on December 04, 2011, 01:05:59 PM
^Yep. I hate those bokoblins... especially with the electric things

But hardest boss battle was Girahim the first time in Skyview Temple and my favorite is The Boss in the Ancient Cistern... It was my favorite level!

Also I got to a point where shit got very real in SS... VERY Real. It provided a summation of Zelda history... like in every game, but you can map it out a bit more, now.

Basically my exact complaints with the game are here: http://business.financialpost.com/2011/11/18/review-zelda-skyward-sword-let-down-by-the-wii-hardware/

That plus the way they break up the world into the segments instead of just having one large one to explore really detracts from grand adventure feel the other games have.

Basically, I like this least out of all 3D Zelda games I have played.  I will still play through it, but it simply isn't as good.
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: Winter on December 06, 2011, 12:15:09 AM
I had none of those problems. Admit it, being a knight is probably damn hard, I'm sure they get disoriented and swing the wrong direction too. It just takes practice. And personally, the controls are so suiting to me, that it would be a challenge to go back to normal controls.
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: Bespinben on December 06, 2011, 12:25:50 AM
^This.

I played Twilight Princess on Gamecube, so this is my first Zelda Wii title (aside from Link's Crossbow Training [doesn't count]). You'd think I would find the new motion controls hard to get accustomed to, but I actually found them fairly intuitive and enjoyable.
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: DrP on December 06, 2011, 07:17:57 AM
The fact you can swing from all different directions is a nice new feature and they incorporate it into defeating enemies and some doors and whatnot... however they should've refined it a bit more. When I try and do horizontal slashes on Beamos and other monsters, some times it takes 3 times to get a true horizontal slash and not one of the funky ones. It's frustrating, but im enjoying the later parts of the game compared to the earlier (I won't spoil anything for those who have not reached a certain point yet)

Just finished the third dungeon.  This game gets really good fast.  The motion tracking can still be a pain when you are required to slice a certain direction because it simply doesn't work properly, but otherwise the game is really picking up.

The ending blew my mind....
SPOILERS: I never expected such an epic-looking enemy! Like, I saw The Imprisoned come out an thought... really? this is the final boss?? Demise just made Ganondorf look like minced meat!! I was very satisfied with that boss. I still beat him on the first try (with one heart left) but it was really fun. and then finding out Impa was Grannie.. haha.. didn't see that one coming! That was really cool. also all the references to later games like OOT and TP.. loved it!
GREAT game! all 40 hours of gameplay :)

I don't own the game, but I've watched the whole game on Youtube and have played it once.  The control scheme works for me, the only thing I have trouble with is the beetle.  Sometimes when I slash horizontally it slashes diagonally, but not a big problem.  Five stars from me.

Also the flying controls are the most unintuitive and annoying mechanic that I've had to deal with in the entire game so far besides glitchy swinging.  Especially when you turn too hard and it just reverses direction :|

That and swimming.  It's just a poor method of movement that would work so much better with an analog stick.  Makes it imprecise and annoying.

everything just takes a little getting used to... once you get it you dont have as much of a problem. besides, if everything were easy, then the game would be nothing! in my opinion it kinda adds to the difficulty and getting used to the new mechanics.
and whenever i want to get a sure-fire horizontal slash i just swing both the nunchuk and wiimote to get that really big swing. Doesnt bother me when fighting Beamos!
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: KefkaticFanatic on December 18, 2011, 11:56:04 PM
At some point it's no longer difficulty and it's just broken or poorly designed mechanics.

The fact that they gimped the targeting baffles me.  Makes weapons other than the sword near useless in battles.  And they almost never ask for them either, which is disappointing.

If you let go of a, I believe you can use the analog stick to stay at the same depth and maneuver freely on that plane, then you can use the motion controls again when you need to go up or down. That's what I do.
Title: Re: Skyward Sword
Post by: Raymondbl on December 28, 2011, 06:52:57 AM
Ok, here is my theory on the game, but may have spoilers to people who haven't gotten the master sword yet. Spoiler > Demise is nearly as powerful as Hylia, so Hylia's seal can only limit some of Demise's power, sealing it away. If Demise retains his magical powers when he breaks free, he could wreak havoc and kill anyone in his path, including Link because he doesn't have the Master Sword yet.  So Hylia limits some of his power, but the rest that she can't limit she turns into physical power because there's no other way she could do otherwise.  As the seal grows weaker, the limit on his power grows less, and he slowly regains some of his magical power to grow new limbs and to levitate.  What I don't understand though, is if Hylia can send a piece of rock as large as Skyloft into the sky, why can't she just bring it down to crush Demise when he breaks free of the seal?

I just got the game today, and it is the best game I've ever played.
Now, I'm used to playing Mario, where there is a brief amount of dialogue and then you're on your own. But so far in SS, it's like playing a.. a movie.
