Another new topic--what's everyone's first game, and which one is the most nostalgic?
The most nostalgic for me is Pokemon Ruby...the look and layout of the game, coupled with the music, just brings me back to a time before I stopped living in my Game Boy Advance.
My first game was Pokemon Red Version.
Really? The first game I ever played was probably Super Mario 64--the most nostalgic part of that game is the haunted house level.
Mario Party 2. Epic Nostalgasms nowadays....
Sly Cooper may be my most nostalgic game. It was the first home console game I ever bought and one of the first 3d platformers I had ever played.
Super Mario 64, closely followed by Pokémon Yellow.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Pokémon Blue!!!
Pacman is most nostalgic for me. And tetris. |:
Simcity or Tetris Attack for the SNES.
Seriously.
This comment describes how Simcity is nostalgic to me: http://www.youtube.com/comment?lc=zbblMvNA_YvRAF1A-5GJcCPmaBSj3U0kfnWchNBWhM0
Gotta go with Sonic 1 & 2. They're one of the first games I've played. It's also about 10 years ago when I got Pokemon Blue. Makes me feel kinda old.
Sonic 2 (for Sega) and Pokemon Red
Super Mario 64 was my first real game, so that.
Though I played Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, and Mario Kart 64 all the time when I was a kid too.
Most nostalgic? Oracle of Ages/Seasons for sure, the first game I ever played was Majora's Mask.
Super Mario Galaxy
You serious?
I hope he's not
ESPECIALLY if he's talking about "the first game he ever played"
Super Mario Galaxy is pure epicness, but it's not nostalgic. :P
I guess I choose Pokemon RBY. Basically, it was not the first game I have played, but everytime I listen to RBY music or play the game I feel happy :D. SM64 is a nostalgic game too... hmmmmmm hard choice^^.
Quote from: universe-X on November 28, 2010, 03:02:55 PMSuper Mario Galaxy
Nostalgia doesn't have to stretch back THAT far. I don't feel nostalgic for this game though.
Ocarina of Time. Definitely. And Luigi's mansion. :D
Oh yes, Luigi's Mansion. Also I am playing Pokemon Silver right now, since its battery is replaced, and I am being overwhelmed with nostalgia. :P
I think U-X means that Super Mario Galaxy has nostalgic references to the older games.
I could be wrong though.
Nobody for the Donkey Kong series? Dang.. :(
Donkey Kong County for the Gameboy Color definitely. I used to play that game for hours. I can't believe I forgot about it.
I HOW COULD I FORGET DARK CLOUD 2? Not necessarily the most nostalgic game when I think about it, though it does give me a quite a rush of nostalgia, not the most out of my games. But it doesn't mean its not my favorite game. Which it is.
Another game would be Diablo II. Though I only bought it for myself about 3 years ago, I used to play all the time at my friend's house all the time years before I actually owned it.
Croc and Spyro.
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. I still recommend those games. :D
Lufia & the fortress of doom. First game ever, and it's pretty awsm. I still love it. I'll probably start a new game during Christmas vacations.
Yoshi's Story. It was the very first game I've ever played. It was super easy; me and my brother would always try to beat it, trying to get the so called "Orange" and "Purple" yoshi's. It was extremely difficult, and disappointing :\
Omg that game was so awesome.
I HAVE THAT GAME
I used to love that game so much... my cousin (who gave us the N64) once got the WHITE Yoshi, which is apparently really, really, impossible to get or something (::)) and told us NOT to use it or we would lose it.
We used it. We lost it. xD
In addition to the six Yoshis that are available at the start of the game, there are black eggs and white eggs that can be found in certain stages in the game. If they are found (individually), the black and the white Yoshis will be available afterward. Unlike the original six Yoshis, the Black and White Yoshis like multiple fruits, making the chances of obtaining a high score even greater. In addition, the Black and White Yoshis like peppers, and Shy Guys also replenish health when eaten by a black/white Yoshi. Besides what these Yoshis like to eat, Black and White Yoshis also shake the ground when doing a ground pound, and their eggs explode when you throw them. If a black or white Yoshi is lost while in story mode they will not return, and can only be obtained by finding the egg again.
I guess that's it.
The only reason I went to youth group at the church was to play Yoshi's Story. :D
my first game Super mario that' all
For me it was my first Pokemon game, Pokemon LeafGreen Version. Ever since I've played that, all the Pokemon games I've played give me nostalgia.
Probably either Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64.
NASCAR Racing for N64 was my first.
Then came Mario Party 2 and Super Mario 64.
Definatley Banjo-Kazooie though I was to young for Tooie (My grandparents bought Kazooie and didn't buy Tooie) I used to play it everyday but then I went off it for about two years, then I heard a piano playing Rusty Bucket Bay and I havn't stopped being obessed with Banjo-Kazooie ever since.
I also so have nostalgia from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue/Red Rescue Team and nearly died of happiness when I heard Blizzard Island. But Mario 64 and Pokemon Ruby are also up there in the greats.
*Edit I just got nostagia from the "Wi-Fi Lobby" arrangment on this site! I feel so happy yet, I can't help but feel sad becuase of the memories of Diamond and Pearl...
Now I feel old
The first video game i ever played was Mario party 5
And the first one i owned was MK Double dash for GCN.
I'm not that old :P
Don't worry, we're all young at heart. :P
Pokémon Yellow!!! That was the reason why I LOVE videogame music... It all started there... :'(
Oh, BTW! Some weeks ago I bought Pokémon Silver, just for nostagia... :D
Amazing Island, the first game I ever bought with my own money.
It might not seem like the best game ever, but nevertheless, it's actually very enjoyable.
I bought GBA Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Four Swords and that was nostalgic. :D
I can still remember my brother and i taking turns on Super Mario Bros. 2 waaaay back then...
Damnit bro, die! I want my turn! :P
Damnit bro, stop killing me and then dying!
NSMBW is HILARIOUS. :P

Yeah, I have that game. Glares are always exchanged between my bros and I when we play this. :P

god, its nonstop yelling and violence when my friends and I play this. -_-"
Hahaha. Well I'm a meat shield between both of mine. :P
It's pretty sad. I've done the final battle FIVE TIMES and my brothers kill me every time.
This should give you an idea of how good my brothers are.
I have 26 continues.
My bros have 50 AND 55 APIECE.
(and the one with 55 is in a bubble on EVERY hard level, so... you get the idea.)
Quote from: fingerz on April 06, 2011, 05:25:56 PMYeah, I have that game. Expletives are always exchanged between my bros and I when we play this. :P
*fixed to fit my situation
Expletives? Ooooh, that's pretty bad. :o
I have ABSOLUTELY no idea how this game is nostalgic... ;)
I haven't read through this thread yet but I must say that my most nostalgic game is probably LoZ:MM.
I don't even know if I can begin to describe how I feel about the game. Everything in it.
The atmosphere. The music.
The stress. The themes. The heart-break.
The game really reaches out and plucks at my heart strings.
The game is so escapist for me. I dunno if anyone else feels that way though.
It's that alienation. You (Link) go through time, repeating the same period over and over again--
rushing around helping everyone out, doing your best for them. But of course. It's in vain. They can't ever really know you've done this. You're effectively and constantly wiping their memories or the footprints they've made in 3 days worth of time.
Moreover, you never have enough time to help out everyone in one cycle. It's an insurmountable task and it's simply impossible.
So? You soar back through time and help someone else out this time. But. Are you an altruist then?
If these people never remember the events, then you must be doing it for yourself--unless you believe that the people you helped live on in an alternate universe (in which they're still doomed to die). And at other hush times, you have to ask yourself with a weird tone, does someone's spirit transcend death? You can't repeat the events whereby you save Darmani or Mikau. Are you going crazy? Jumping so devotedly into a game with so many eerie and inexplicable elements.
And then there's that aspect of the game where if you get too caught up in it, you too wonder where YOUR friend went.
....Even though most evidence points to Navi, a part of me feels like it's Saria too. And even though Link should love the princess and it's the most logical choice,
I think he's always been in love with Saria. Always.
I dunno how the directors and writers and composers and everyone did it but the game is SO cathartic.
I can honestly feel all these different emotions from the people that put work into the game and it goes way beyond the satisfaction of completing the notebook, or the quest for the heart pieces, or upgrading your sword, finding all the masks or even beating the game. I think for many people, the question is, "What the fuck were those crazy Japanese smoking?"
But for me, the question is, "What were they feeling?" The game is so poignant and heart-wrenching despite being just that, a game. I could honestly go on FOREVER about this epic.
The utter ridiculousness of the games fantasy elements, the dark humour, the chaotic atmosphere, the undercurrent of love or something, it all hits home so hard.
I know I sound like a loon, and justly so, but I can't deny the effect that game had on my young young brain.
Even to this day I wish I could warp back in time and fix any little mistakes I've made--even if it's just to make an old woman smile.
You get the same feeling of missing Saria in Ocarina of Time.
But, alas, she symbolizes the innocence that he leaves behind as he grows older.
In life you have to say good-bye to old friends, and make new ones.
Unfortunately, if Link were to have a crush on Saria later in the game, it would be considered pedophilia...
Oh, I know. I love OoT almost as much.
And I get the feeling. I mean, calling her up on the ocarina to hear her voice? How her song plays in the woods.
The saddest part is when she's no longer sitting there under the entrance to the Forest Temple.
I don't think it's really pedophilia. Link's growing-up is very artificial.
He is much more mature at the end of OoT (where he is a child again) but I think Saria would be too, recognizing her role as a sage.
Saria might not have grown up physically, being a Kokiri, but unless Saria is much much older or ageless or whatever...
I think they'd be the same age, regardless of appearance. In any case, their friendship just rips my heart out... for some reason.
You're running to leave the forest behind forever... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2E2vdIF6vM)
And you don't even say good-bye.
Most emotional game?
hmm...probably one of the older pokemon games, or the Spyro-series (3 first ps1 games)
My first game (I bought and owns) is NHL 2000 for PS1
But I'm not sure over the first game I've played.
I have some really old memories about Jazz Jackrabbit and some other small pc-games
Then I used to borrow a couple of neighbours Sega Megadrive (mm...talespin)

And you don't even say good-bye.
When I was young, I just didn't understand their feelings. And now that I get it, I find it heartbreaking.
I feel like it hurt so much he didn't even have the strength to say bye.
I'm never saying good-bye to someone on a bridge. :(
