What did you all think of it? I heard it wasn't great from others who had read the books, but I was very pleasantly surprised--it was a great addition to the series.
Favorite scenes/effects:
- I loved the scene where Hermione was reading out loud--nice animation there, it seemed more like something from a Burton movie than that from a Potter film.
- So many awesome people returned--John Hurt was Ollivander again, Warwick Davis as Griphook, Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange, Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood... My personal favorite actress was Imelda Staunton, who reprised her role as Professor Umbridge. I loved the little "Tee-hee" laugh she did; great job all around.
- It stuck to the book very well, hardly any changes.
- I liked the use of some very subtle film techniques--such as, did anyone else notice that the whole movie housed very little color? It was very toned down and almost black-and-white. Very cool.
- Honorable mention to the Godric's Hollow scene for scaring the crap out of everyone in the whole theater.
Things that were wrong/should have been better:
- Dobby. I love the little guy. He's awesome. But...it seems kind of random to bring him back in the last movie when they haven't included his other (admittedly minor) roles in the series. I mean, I can see why. But it could have seemed out-of-place and awkward to people who haven't read the book.
- It ended really abruptly. I mean (spoilers), Voldemort breaks open the coffin, takes the wand, shoots fireworks into the air, the scene fades out...and then credits? It was a bit of a sudden end.
Post your thoughts here if you're a Potter fan. :)
You sum it up pretty well. I especially agree about how Lestrange and Lovegood were awesome.
Oh and also add a special mention for Alexandre Desplat's soundtrack.
I already discussed that in the "non-VG music" and "I <3 soundtracks" threads. ;) But you're right, it was epic.
It wasn't very good.
Maybe a 6/10.
If they showed Emma Watson's tits it would have been an 8 at least.

Don't be silly, Harvest.
Emma Watson doesn't have tits.
I didn't like it much. It received a big long meh from me. Truest to the book, but it was a crap film. Although, as a friend pointed out, it's set up for the 2nd movie to be fantastic. Setting all the plot points, tone, and characters. I'm looking forward to the 2nd.

Although wtf was with that make out shadow mist scene, that was like "yup taunting ron taunting ron.... full on naked make out... totally" >_> I was half expecting her to dry hump Harry
It was really hard to imagine that scene in the book--suddenly a Harry and Hermione rise out of the locket, then kiss, horrifying Ron? But yeah, they made it rather weirder in the movie, if that's possible.
Part One is not much interesting.
I'm hoping part 2 will be grand since it's the last Harry Potter film.
I was expecting more from this Part one considering it's the 2nd to the last.
I think that the locket scene was the darkest part in the series. I mean...it's just so torturous.
I still haven't watched it! D:
I agree with most every single point made on here except Kefka's, and the one about dobby, since this is the only potter movie I've seen.
Kefka didn't make a post in this thread? lol.
omg I meant Harvest lol because Kefka usually says things like that.
Not really.
I've read all the books and Part 2 should be better than the first, though you can't have 2 without 1. :P
Quote from: KefkaticFanatic on May 03, 2011, 10:33:31 PMNot really.
ok, then. Sorry.
I can't wait until Part 2 is released. then I'll get it with the Fountain of Youth.
...
This bot is actually slightly smarter.
Sort of.
Except making your avatar a mattress is kinda stupid.
yeah lol. I actually didn't notice he was a bot until he put his avatar on, because I don't look at signatures much :P
Actually, I'm not sure this one is a bot. She is on-topic and doesn't mention any specific brands of mattress.
However, her profile contains links to a double mattress website, and the email she provides implies that she was born in '91, while her profile page says "Age: 23".
Either, Kelsey Reed is a (stolen?) identity used for a specific Harry Potter bot, or this is a sentient spammer.
I like the personal avatar text...no shit xD
Is anyone else going to the midnight showing for the last movie? I'm glad to say I am! I'm really, really excited.
Nah. Was thinking about it but our theater's nearly sold out, and I don't feel like sitting in a crowded theater with groups of teenagers who dress up and be loud and obnoxious.
EDIT: Unless of course I was in a group of them...which I wouldn't have been. So meh.
Well, I'm going with friends, anyway. So that's why it'll be bearable.
And again - first midnight showing of a movie. That's more of the exciting part.
Going to the midnight showing and an early showing on Wednesday ;)
Though everyone should be saying "f u MG" with me since he's touring Europe and going to like 5 premieres including the Ireland and FREAKING LONDON ones.
5? Christ. Lucky. u_u Then again, I'm happy I can just go to one.
Meh, I'll probably just watch part 2 when its out on dvd. Just saw part one a few days ago.
AHHHHH 2 MORE DAYS /excitement all around
SO! Has anyone else seen this fantastic movie yet?
Yes it was really good, especially how the last few minutes didn't exist and it ended with the panning out with them on the bridge.
I liked how they pulled the epilogue off, actually. Though everyone groaned when they saw "19 years later" appear on the screen. XD Then we all "awww'd" at the kids.
And then you all went AUGHHHHH again when he said the damn name.
No, everyone actually laughed. XD
BEST MOVIE EVER.
<3
Oh yeah, also was it just me or did you get the feeling Mrs. Weasley's actress had just kept with the series this whole time so that she could shout that one line at Bellatrix? :3
I would've.

Pfff XD She really delivered it well. I was so excited when I saw her on screen because I knew what line was coming up. XD
Lol yeah, and of course Helena Bonham Carter was brilliant as always as Bellatrix Lestrange, particularly in the scene where Hermione had taken Polyjuice Potion to become her. It was so funny seeing her little facial expressions trying to play someone who wasn't used to being her.

Wait what??? I thought that the studio just dressed Hermione to look as if she were actually Bellatrix. Boy was I wrong. I guess that just shows how convincing a performance Ms. Carter can give.
Carter did a fantastic job as Bellatrix. It's hard to be a crazy bitch who's lovable and hate...able(this is not a word but stfu) at the same time.
Was anyone else washed with nostalgia when they heard the main theme from the first movie? Or the first bit of the Credit's Medley? :'( I love that music
Yeah I liked "Leaving Hogwarts" but Alexandre Desplat's score was much better imo.
When that music played oh gooood ;A; It hit harder a second time. (Yeah, I saw it twice xD)
I just bought the soundtrack, and "Statues" (track 9) is my favorite from this movie.
Desplat's score was just perfect.
Edit: Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtwnM0XEqQg) the song.
Thanks for that link! I can hunt for that song I was looking for.
^I like Courtyard Apocalypse, too, which is pretty similar.
My favorites: Lily's Theme, Statues, Courtyard Apocalypse, Snape's Demise, Severus and Lily (loooove this track), and a New Beginning (also completely epic).
The itunes download comes with a video of the orchestral recording of A New Beginning. Pretty awesome. Overall though, the first part's score was better. But with "Obliviate," "Dobby," "Ministry of Magic," "The Locket," "Lovegood," and "Farewell to Dobby," it would be hard to top.
I liked the nod to Polyjuice Potion in the track "Neville." :) epic score overall.
Everything about Snape and Lily just makes me wanna cry ;A; Seriously I feel my heart shatter every time I see anything about it....
Yea, it was definitely something that was done really well in the film.
Indeed. Now I need to get all 8 movies on DVD and have a marathon with friends.
and do it every month.
Quote from: Nebbles on July 20, 2011, 10:20:30 PMEverything about Snape and Lily just makes me wanna cry ;A; Seriously I feel my heart shatter every time I see anything about it....
My favorite part in the series, I'm so glad they did that well.
It took effort not to start crying in the movie theater it was really sad.
Hearing Snape over the top of the images, insulting James, was a really nice touch. And the part where he reveals his Patronus, still a doe...poor Snape...he loved her so incredibly hard...
As I saw on Tumblr - and oh this quote speaks such truth - "J.K Rowling wrote a better love story in one chapter than Stephenie Meyer wrote in four books."
And it's true. I could just feel Snape's pain on screen, I really could ;A;
And of course this part: "After all this time?" "Always."

Well of course it's better than Stephenie Meyer. Her story was all about lust and teenage "romance" and such... Snape really and truly loved Lily...loved her so horribly hard.
Even I can write better than Meyer but yeah
Yeah.... Snape really did love Lily. And how he had to protect Harry, and then to realize he had to die... sheesh....
All the movies together are nearly 20 hours, I think.
I would be watching HP for the rest of my life.
...well, my British accent would be perfect after the first week. XD
British, eh? I love the different accents. What kind of accent do you have?
^Not random at all. Perfectly normal to ask a person what accent they have.
Quote from: fingerz on July 21, 2011, 10:54:36 PMBritish, eh? I love the different accents. What kind of accent do you have?
Er... I'm not sure what'd I call it? I guess a plain ol' American accent at best. I live on the east coast, but as far as I know I've got no accents from there (No Boston, NY, Jersey, etc).
Methinks Fingerz thinks you're British, Nebbles. :D
Oh PFFT no XD I'm American. I have English relatives, but I'm starting to get to good with a British accent + I use British spellings sometimes.
How do you pronounce aluminium? ;)
Uhh... a-loom-in-num? >_> I know that's probably now how it's said in the UK.
I thought so. XD
Here in Australia we say a-loo-mi-ni-um.
Quote from: fingerz on July 22, 2011, 08:15:51 PMI thought so. XD

That's the way cool people say it here too.
Go Australia! btw how do you say nutella?
nuh-tella? xD /is horrible with phonetic typing, please spare me
....hmmm, nutella. Sounds good right now.
Part two was great. And for once, the Norwegian translator did a proper job and translated all the names correctly. It has annoyed me to no end to see Harry go around calling Hagrid for Hagrid and Ron for Ron, when their respective Norwegian names are Gygrid and Ronny.
HERE BE SPOILERS
My only beef with it was how the villain deaths were cluttered with special effects. In the book, Bellatrix LeStrange was killed when a curse damaged her heart so it stopped (the film had her shrivel and fall apart), Nagini the snake had its head chopped off and flailed around for a minute (exploded in the film), and Voldemort dropped dead after a curse backlashed (turned to ash while screaming in the movie).
All those deaths would have been boring if they kept them the way they were :D most notably Voldemort's.
....and see Nagini explode was pretty badass.
I thought the deaths of Bellatrix and Nagini were pretty awesome. Especially Bellatrix - freeze and disintegrate! but Voldemort's death, I felt, wasn't a good one. It needed to be more of a DEATH, not a disentegrate.
