With all the art topics suddenly popping up, and the generally good response to Pokémon drawings, I thought I could join the trend and share some pictures. I spent the better part of boring classes at secondary school drawing, and among huge amounts of crap, it resulted in this. Those of you who know me on Facebook might have seen those before:

What the hell is this one actually looking at... or rather, why is its foot on fire? As you can see from its stance, it's leaping upwards, not going downwards like I seemed to think when I drew this. I probably used a picture as a reference while drawing, and added the fire for effect. It didn't save me from screwing up the left foot, though.

Sharpedo is actually ridiculously easy to draw. Just start with the contour of its back, then work from there. Screwup guaranteed when you add the star at the end, though.

Yes, the eyes are too big, and it's not round. Though, excuses exist for both:
1) Eyes don't grow. They keep their size during the entire life.
2) As seen in the games, Pokémon eggs aren't round, even if the Pokémon inside it is. So a newly hatched Pokémon will have some deformities due to the imperfect shape of the shell.
This is a baby. Cute, eh?
These two were drawn with the aid of pictures. Both were my Facebook profile pic for some time:

I have uploaded some more pictures, but in hindsight, I realise they are too ugly to show here. It's been a while since I last drew a "full" picture. I want to pick up the pencil again, though, so if anybody could help me with some critisism, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
This is cool :o Are the first few drawn on the back of your homework? :3
I saw the first few and was quite honestly like "Okay, these are alright..."
I saw Feraligatr, and it was good, but you'd posted that one before.
The Cubone... is my favorite, although I am not a Cubone fan. It was very well done; if these are in chronological order you are improving all the time!
^^Sometimes homework, but usually papers we got at school and worked with in class.
^I actually drew a couple after Cubone too. One turned out terrible, and one was Scizor, but head only. It was quite boring to look at. I think Cubone is my best work so far.
Thanks, both of you!
Very good! You're great at this. I'm jealous.
A lovely Cubone, I must say. The first couple weren't nearly as good as the last two though.
Agreed. The last 2 were amazing! Well done! :D
Gotta love the Cubone. :D
Wow, nice. ^_^ The Feraligatr and Cubone are fantastic!
As I found out this autumn, Infrastructure can be a very boring subject. And as I sat there, with the book in front of me and pencil in hand, trying to listen to the teacher with a faint hope of taking some useful notes, I decided to pick up on drawing again:
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F405810_2965894262091_1103693098_33154390_1198655046_n.jpg&hash=e2d87c010206dca4448d20658d9419c20a7524cb)
QUESTION: What does the musculature in Bulbasaur's hind legs look like? Which ways do the joints go? In which direction do the toes point?
ANSWER: I have no idea, and neither does GameFreak, apparently. I couldn't find a single picture of Bulbasaur's hind legs showing any joint at all. Most of the art (http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Category:Bulbasaur) depicts them as a continuation of its butt, with the toes tucked away somewhere unspecified. This leads to the question: How does this thing even manage to walk? I mean, most official art shows that the hind legs are usually pointing out from its body in a V-shape. Sorry for this looking like a mess, but I didn't have any art to refer to. Perhaps Ivysaur's animations in SSBB would have been of help, but again, this was drawn during Infrastructure class.

Let it be said, I'm hopless with reflections. And shadows in general, don't ask where the light source is supposed to be here. That being said, I like how most of the magnets turned out on this one.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F405810_2965894422095_1103693098_33154392_1159329560_n.jpg&hash=ae8d09f624ebb836c9f07f9e917b1bb2ab6bde4f)
Forget Rattata and Raticate, I've always thought of Voltorb and Electrode as the Pokémon equivalent to rats. They thrive in dark places, feed on electricity (for instance, batteries in the boxes) and can be a pest to remove (most Ground attacks are devastating to their surroundings, but peanuts compared to the chain reaction that would set off if you provoked one of them to explode). If your warehouse is infested by these, you better close the door carefully and call for professional help. Next time, you better make sure to close all the doors tightly even if you're only going away for a couple of minutes.
On a side note, the rough plank texture on the wooden crate turned out quite nice, I think.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F405810_2965894462096_1103693098_33154393_995695551_n.jpg&hash=28e9160b364b0236588a11c74dddc4d3e1715013)
Ahh, Garchomp, everybody's favourite land shark. Where to begin with this one? Not the toes on the right foot, that's for sure. Until I get a new and better rubber, let's just pretend that Garchomp stumbled on a rock and hurt its toe badly. Also, legs are a pain to draw. The eyes should actually be smaller than shown here, and placed closer to its snout.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-snc7%2F405810_2965894502097_1103693098_33154394_1740629784_n.jpg&hash=6f90927c7b3334b5688eda6f11455594bb9e7c17)
Until I drew this, I had always liked Tyranitar's design. I mean, just look at it!
Then I tried to draw its legs. I had to look it up on Bulbapedia to get it right. Yes, they are meant to be on the sides of its body. Yes, it has no knees, at least not rotating on the proper axis. No wonder why Tyranitar has such a low Speed stat: It can't walk. Its arms are also... well, I drew them too big here. They are meant to be even shorter and stubbier, leading one to question their purpose at all. It can't pick up things on the ground (it would fall over). Its punching reach is limited to some thirty centimetres directly in front of it. It can't even touch its own nose. The screw-ups that are its hands are entirely my own, though. Never mind the orientation of its belly.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F396924_2965914622600_1103693098_33154426_2130410500_n.jpg&hash=4c4e0e492a0498d958d42b4da78b617b68d5ffdc)
Victreebel is a funny one. I've never got either of its leaves right, but at least the rest looks sort of OK. Though, those tennis ball-sized eyes would probably protrude into its digestive tract, but hey, who am I to question GameFreak's designs?
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F393821_2965915342618_1103693098_33154428_1170002156_n.jpg&hash=e3cbbe8a05663528fda6bda39b567ca0638a5035)
This one turned out pretty well, I think. If you disregard the size of its head compared to its body, that is. That thing on its left hand is not the poorly drawn outline of its biceps, it's supposed to be a battle scar. Promise. As usual, legs are hard to draw. And I wonder what kind of muscles and bone structure Charizard would need on its back, seeing as its wings are jointed next to its arms. I'm glad I didn't have to draw that here. I only had to figure out its shoulders, which hopefully nobody will notice if I not mention the-... dang.

The hardest thing do draw on Gyarados is the spikes protruding from its jawbone and temples. They are meant to be way more rugged than shown here. Can we pretend that Gyarados is filling its lungs with air before diving, inflating its cheeks in the process? It has no visible gills, so I think that could be feasible.
No idea what happened to the central spike in its tail fin, though... perhaps it is hidden behind a splash of frothy water with the exact same colour as the fin?

Last, one for the artillery nerds out there. Angles screwed up all over the place, but it kinda resembles the real deal still.

Sorry, prefer to look at artillery from in front of them. And preferably so far away that I can't see them.
As far as Bulbasaur's legs, I always thought of the joints like cats kind of, if you see it jump...
And Charizards arms... :o
Electrode pic was very beautiful btw.
Bulbasaur's legs are HUGE! O: looking back at your older ones, I love the Bellsprout. I don't know why. I just love that Pokemon and it's a good drawing.
These are awesome! I <3 Magneton
Oh! Update!
I made a thread over at the Smogon forums, and there I got a request to try to draw Smeargle. I thought that the usual "bumbly eccentric painter" approach was a little too overrated, so I found a pose where it explains better why some Smeargle are banned, even in the Uber metagame.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F405877_3067687846867_1103693098_33195718_1090444824_n.jpg&hash=35ec7a503ffe8d3655dc08fb999f00a6d8b38c4f)
Also, I drew a couple of pictures from the life in the military:
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-snc7%2F429696_3067666246327_1103693098_33195707_1893205596_n.jpg&hash=2f2eefd763d2307f0d370eff507bc7e1c0ff24f2)
I spent a lot of time in, on and around this truck. Still forgot a couple of details, but this should be decent enough. Just don't look at the roof of the driver's cabin.
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F426191_3067666526334_1103693098_33195708_1834286204_n.jpg&hash=a2afe577b63a7a1706e87620150afe8aa86d21fa)
Kaserne Livelt, Setermoen, 05:59. Date is arbitrary.
Smeargle is by far my favorite. Close second is Tyranitar. Nice job ;D
Hm, the truck looks familiar. If I remember correctly, we had Scanias as well. Although we mostly had Sisu's vehicles.
Also what's the guy doing half-awake? He still has a minute left to sleep.
The armoured battalion stationed in the same camp as us had a few SISU/PASIs. Our medic troop was supposed to have one as well, but then the third battalion managed to break one of theirs in Afghanistan, and the armoured battalion had to donate one of their vehicles to replace it. Not a month later, they were back up with a full set of PASIs again, while the artillery lost their only one. *mumblegrumbleprioritybattalionmumble*
Also, that guy always needed five minutes to get out of bed.
More drawings to come!
Okay, here we go!
Some guy at Smogon requested a Conkeldurr. I wanted to draw it differently from that one pose GameFreak always depicts it in, but the result was... well, so-so:
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2Fs720x720%2F419761_3176947418288_1103693098_33236655_1407820344_n.jpg&hash=e5313cd7f95461afef2ff2097b38e163dfca3a89)
The feet are drawn larger than usual. The head tuft and nose are smaller than they should be. Still looks like a proper joke, though.
Some more from last year as well:

How many men can fit in such a tent? Answer:always one more!
I'd be happy to take requests.
How about a Minccino, but in a different pose than Game Freak's art?
How big a tent is that? Hard to tell from the picture.
^The opening is about one metre tall, the middle pole a good twenty centimetres longer. The tent is meant to be about 3-4 metres across. That's a jerry can hooked up to the oven there. It's a little badly drawn, though.
Right. Squad-sized, then. Oh how I hated those.
Of course never had to sleep in one after becoming an assistant instructor for the NCO students. Oh the joys of having a half-platoon tent for four people.

I'm not sure what to make about this. I always forget that Koffing has a proportionally very small face, while this one is hardly anything but face. It could be a baby, but I imagine that Koffing's pores aren't open for at least a month or two after hatching. Newborn Koffing should be rather smooth and leathery, like basket balls or something, then develop "pimples" as they mature. These pimples will eventually become blisters, which will crack open and allow gas to be emitted. It might look like horrible wounds, but they actually help Koffing breathe and fart (and it's not always easy to distinguish the two).
Koffing are spongy creatures, though as evident in Pokémon Stadium, they do have some sort of star-like bone structure and powerful muscles, allowing it to squeeze itself empty of gas and dust. Large eyes help them see through dense smoke. As a final act of self-defence, Koffing can produce sparks, igniting its gas. This attack will be devastating to the surroundings and knock Koffing out, but is less effective in enclosed spaces due to the limited amount of oxygen available. On the other hand, those conditions make its gas all the more dangerous.
It's unknown how Koffing are able to levitate, seeing as their density is nine times larger than that of air. However, weighing a single kilogram on average, Koffing are by all means lightweight Pokémon, having the smallest (measureable) density of them all.

Garbodor: The Trash Heap Pokémon. In what way it is connected to trash is debated. Some say it's a garbage bag mutated into a creature, like its pre-evolution. Yet others claim it is a creature mutated into resembling a garbage bag. Everybody agrees, though, that Garbodor absolutely stinks. Its upper body is covered in dense, filthy hair, its lower body is leathery and usually so caked in with mud and sludge that it's hard to tell where the creature ends and the filth begins. Garbodor naturally search out filthy places, and attempts to clean one have been met by vigorous protests and clear signs of severe discomfort.
Its hands form the prime argument that this creature did not evolve by means of natural mutations. They are so big, lumpy and hideously formed that they're next to useless for picking up things smaller than a basket ball. Some Garbodor only have a single finger on each hand, giving it next to no dexterity. Though, it is still capable of gripping food and shoving it into its weird mouth. The arms can also batter opponents with surprising strength, enough to rip the bark off trees. They can also be used to dig into the heaps of trash as Garbodor scavenge through the landfills for food. Garbodor's right hand secretes a toxic sludge that can be used to incapacitate enemies. It is unknown what its spongy "horns" are good for, but some theorize they're meant to spread the smell of a Garbodor over a larger area, scaring away enemies or attracting mates.
Oh my, Cobra you're great!
Thank you!
Requests and suggestions are, as always, much welcome!
As stated in the Pokemon thread, excellent and highly original.
New project in the works!
An avid Donald Duck fan, I've read the comics for some 17 years now. The Donaldverse is a conglomerate of ideas, without any coherent timeline (though efforts have been made, only a few writers even try to stick to them), no coherent geography or any overarching story. Every day in Duckburg is a fresh start. Status quo might be disturbed, but through heroic efforts by one of the main characters, everything returns to normal eventually. At the end of the day, life goes on as usual, with no permanent change whatsoever. Our heroes partake in breathtaking adventures or charming daily life events, then return back home when everything is sorted out. Normality and character traits vary from story to story. Background stories are plentiful, but they rarely coincide with each other, and almost never matter outside the story they are presented in. One day, it's stated that Donald grew up at his grandmothers' farm, raised by Grandma Duck and Uncle Scrooge, the next they say he lived with his family and didn't meet Scrooge before he was in his late thirties. In the end, it hardly matters anyway. Each writer has his own ideas of life in Duckburg, and that's a defining point of the comics. Nothing is ever certain.
However, in this ever-changing world, there is one thing that stands solid. You may even say the world revolves around it. The most prominent landmark in Duckburg, the starting point for as much as half the comics (of which there are a LOT). A building where everything can happen. Probably one of the most famous pieces of fictional architecture ever:
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi266.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii259%2FPokemaniac91%2FProsjekt%2520Sparegris%2FBingeOversikt_zps209cbd15.png&hash=3001132194ac321de6bee9e833a714e7a8f97041)
The Big Bin of Killmotor Hill. Scrooge McDuck's office, residence and personal cash vault. Its looks vary a little between artists, but outside Italy the "Grey concrete cube" design is by far the most common. In the US, the design from the DuckTales series is the most well known. It has a cupola on the roof and slightly concave walls, but is otherwise a lot like this.
Now, I intend to merge my personal fascinations for buildings and Donald Duck. As a civil engineering student, I'm learning a lot about how buildings work, how they're put together, and how to draw them according to the proper standards (the Eurocode series). I hope to do a proper engineering analysis of the building and create detailed schematics for the entire thing, from cellar floor to the air vents on the roof. I will mainly bade my work on the architectural drawings (http://donrosa.wikispaces.com/Moneybin+Blueprints) made by artist Don Rosa and his friend Dan Shane. With the architectural part already done, what remains is the civil engineering stuff. I know what it is going to look like, now I only have to make it work. In other words, I'll be putting pencil and paper aside for a moment, and proceed to post stuff drawn in AutoCAD:

At this point, everything is subject to change.
I'm also doing a few force calculations as well as some simple math on the amout of money in the bin (less than you'd think!). It's great exercise for curriculum-related stuff. Beside the obvious relations to Mechanics and Building Materials, there's also other relevant calculations to be done in this project:
- Money, when piled randomly, behaves a lot like common soil (only a fair bit denser). There are significant forces in action, and those have to be calculated. Relevance points to Geotechnics.
- Figuring out wind loads is a big part of this semester's curriculum in Projecteering.
- On a level roof with level walkways, not to mention the level floor in the cash vault, water will eventually gather. I have to figure out the required sloping and drainage placement to secure a proper runoff of rainwater and dew. Hydromechanics all the way.
- I might have overdone the rebar (concrete reinforcement bars) slightly. I hope Concrete Structures, which I'll have next semester, will be of help.
- Gotta figure out a way to keep the roof in place above the cash vault. Currently unsure if large enough I-beams will suffice, or if I have to resort to trusses.
Questions, support, helpful advice, declarations of insanity or other feedback would be very welcome. I'll post more as soon as I get around to drawing it.
This topic is full of win.
Also Don Rosa <3
I've read everything(I mean everything) he has ever written and I have each and every Donald Duck album he has made in Finnish and The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck in English. I'm a huge fan of his artwork.
A real shame he stopped drawing.
Also I hate myself for not finding out that he was visiting Finland last year. He better come visit again someday so I can actually meet him and maybe get my The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck signed.
*has his signature in every DD album*
:3
God dammit.
At least I have a signed photo...
So I heard someone mentioned Donald Duck and especially Don Rosa, so I knew I had to stop by.
I have a limited, 1st edition copy of the Finnish "The Crown of the Crusader Kings", leather covers of course. Unfortunately I don't have the drawing that came with the album. :(
Also I have all of his albums in Finnish, with autographs ofc.
Also two more months until I have 400 1st edition "Aku Ankan Taskukirjaa". So excited.
I've got a fair bit of Donald Duck material, and own all of Rosa's stuff in hardcover books, but haven't got anything signed.
Got a signed drawing by Arild Midthun, though. Had a nice long chat with him after a presentation he held at a local library. Back then, he had only published ten Duck stories or so, but was already an established newspaper cartoonist. By now he has penned several dozen stories, and is clearly one of my favourites. His drawing style is a little more detailed than most Duck artists, at times rivalling Rosa's. He never writes the scripts himself, though, preferring to work with other writers (who do an excellent job, I might add).
As much as I love Rosa and Midthun, though, my personal favourite is Marco Rota. If I may say so, he's the only Duck artist who knows how to draw shadows. All of the other Donald Duck artists always use well-lit scenes, while Rosa isn't afraid to let stuff happen in total darkness. His stories are less detailed and complex than Rosa's, the scripts less intricate than those of the Norwegian writers, but that distinct style and truly enjoyable stories give every Rota comic top quality.
Honorable mentions go to Flemming Andersen, William van Horn, Kari Korhonen, Floyd Gottfredson, Al Taliaferro and the late Vicar. Carl Barks shouldn't even have to be mentioned. I really hope future generations of writers and artist manage to uphold the great quality of the classic masters.
I dislike van Horn's work, I find the stories boring and his art style isn't that good either. Rota's distinct style, like you said the best, is very enjoyable. I still love Rosa though, no matter what happens. His work has always been absolutely amazing, he put a lot of effort in most of his series and the details were so good that *faints*.
