Title: Rubik's Cube
Post by: chipmunk884 on April 08, 2008, 04:32:11 AM
Does anyone here besides me do rubik's cube?  I am still very slow at it, with my fastest time being only 1 minute 58 seconds.  Post any thoughts/times about rubik's cube here.  And i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right spot

My best time is ten years and counting.  ;D
I have a Rubik's Cube somewhere, and I have no idea where it is. It looks like a normal Rubik's Cube, meaning that it is nowhere near being completed. ;)

Omg one of my friends can solve rubix cubes (PLURAL) in like 2 min. Its insane. He gives them to people to mix up as best as they can, and then he solves it in under a minute.

me too i have a friend just like that! and he taught me how to do it so i can do one in just over a minute. he also has the super 10x10 square cube... and  he can solve that in a minute and a half. it's insane...

i'ved tried to solve these before... and i've failed -_-

there's various patterns and combinations that you can try and such and if you learn those you can solve a rubex cube no matter how messed up the squares are...

I used to be good at them but only after I looked up how to solve them. It makes me wanna go back and figure it out the right way. Then I could be like, "In your face rubik's cube solving 3 year old!" >:(

Yesterday, I reached a new personal record of 1 min 32 sec.  Right now, I am trying to learn more algorithms and finger tricks so that i can get under a minute.

It's not that hard to learn it.  just go to rubiks.com and watch the tyson mao video under rubik's academy.  It's really easy to learn.

W00t!  Just got my Rubik's Revenge 4x4 cube today!  I'm learning to solve it, and i found out that once you solve the centers and edge pairs, you can solve it the same as a 3x3, except you can get this thing called parody, but i'm not sure what that is just yet...

I can now finally solve the Rubik's Revenge 4x4 cube!  W00t!  I just have to look at my cheat sheet to see the parity algorithms, because they are immensly long!  Here they are, there are four of them:
2U*, 2L*, 2U, 2l, 2U, 2L*, 2U*, R, U', L, 2U, R', U, R, L', U', L, 2U, R', U, L', U
2R*, 2B, 2U, L*, 2U, R'*, 2U, R*, 2U, 2F, R*, 2F, L'*, 2B, 2R*
2r, 2U, 2r, 2U*, 2r, 2u
2U*, 2L*, 2U, 2l, 2U, 2L*, 2U* F', U', F, U, F, R', 2F, U, F, U, F', U', F, R

Imagine trying to memorize those algorithms... anyway, if anyone can do the rubik's revenge 4x4 cube too, just post your time here.  My best time is between 5-10 minutes... lol

The rubiks cube was all the rage during the Christmas season at my school. I never really got into it, though.

Each letter and symbol represents something.  The uppercase letters are the outer faces, and the lowercase the inner ones.  If it has a ' next to it, it is counterclockwise and if it has a * next to it, it means turn two faces.  Finally, if it has a 2 in front of it, it means turn it twice.

lol my cousin can solve the 4X4, but it takes him like half an hour to do it, and it also took him like a week or so to memorize the algorithms.

My new cubes just arrived today, so now i have a 2x2, 3x3 4x4, and 5x5.  I can do the 2x2 in 25 seconds, 3x3 in 1 minute, and 4x4 in 5 minutes.

sry, idont know where to get one, but i do know that theres alot of steps to finish it, i think theres something like 36 steps to solve it.
oh, and i can solve the 3X3  in about 1:45

destroy them if you will acropol, but one guy can solve it in 8.72 seconds, thats the world record

woah, try this- its a new algorithm i discovered
take the rubix cube, and whatever side is on top, rotate it once clockwise, and the the left side away from you or towards you twice(it doesnt matter) repeat this 30 times (yes, literally 30 times) and the cube should be in its original state
Title: Re: Rubik's Cube
Post by: PianoMan on July 21, 2008, 10:51:45 AM
Um... do you know notation... or any general rubik's cube theory? any set of moves repeated a certain number of times will return it to it's original state

R, U, R', U = 5
R', B', R, B = 6
U = 4

Quote from: PseudoMario16 on July 11, 2008, 07:28:25 PMdestroy them if you will acropol, but one guy can solve it in 8.72 seconds, thats the world record

and no. It's 7.08 seconds by Erik Akkersdijk

Anyway...

QuoteI'm getting into speedcubing, and I was wondering which one to get: a DIY 3x3x3, or an eastsheen 3x3x3. Also, where do I find them? I can't find them anywheres.

i know notation, but i dont care much for the theory,
oh, and i read on rubiks.com that the record was 8.72 seconds and that was like two weeks ago, so it might have changed, but i didnt know if it did or not...
