Question:
Is the Nintendo 3DS Worth Trading in a DSi XL for?
Option 1: Yes

Option 2: No

Hey, so I was wondering... Would you recommend me trading in my Nintendo DSi XL for a 3DS? I've looked up some about it and I've heard that it has some positives and negatives. I know that I don't have to pay as much for it if I turn in my XL, so... Would you advise it?
Personally I've never ever had a DSi, 3DS, Wii, or any of those gaming systems. Other people might have different views than me, but if you're perfectly happy with your DSi, don't trade it in. Wait until the games on your DSi start getting old, and there are tons of better ones on the 3DS (and possibly an upgrade to the 3DS). However, if you're feeling your DSi is slipping and is starting not to do its job properly, then get the 3DS. I think the 3D is a nice addition and very appealing, however not worth it at the moment because of the limited number of good games.

That's probably a good idea, maybe I should wait to see what other surprises it brings.
wait for the update in may. then u will NEED one. :P
I have a DSi XL right now... and I really don't want to give up the large screen size and everything for something with smaller screens and shitty battery life, however, I may buy one on my birthday and sell it... it depends and everything and how much money I get from my new job and if I have a job this summer.
But I may ditch my second FatDS instead... Ill figure it out after finals

I would definitely trade your DSi XL for one, while they still have the deal. Seriously, a hundred dollars off makes it somewhat reasonable. Then you can use the money you saved to buy good games when they come out...I wouldn't really waste money on any of the games they have now, unless you like Nintendogs :D

i dont get it... mine hasnt ever ran out of battery power, and i use it all the time....
I think I've said this before, but Kid Icarus looks like a decent game.
Well, for those of you who have it, is it a decent game?
Kid Icarus isn't out yet I thought.
Personally, I'd wait until better games are released, but if you're going to get $100 off, that's a pretty good deal. Nintendo won't drop the price for a while so getting it for cheap while you can seems like a good idea. Basically, if you can get it now and then wait a month or two when better games come out, that would probably be your best bet.
I'll add a poll. Maybe that will be easier, but it looks like more people suggest it.

He was talking about the 3DS.
No. And never do any of the bullshit Gamestop "deals". You can sell it on Amazon for much more: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002I0GU2M/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1304265752&sr=8-2&condition=used
There are no games for it right now, and there won't be until at least holiday season this year. All you would be doing is playing DS games on it.

Yes. So is Olimar. Battery life is not that bad. I keep brightness at 3/5 and turn Power Save Mode on. Never even goes to red when I play it for a few hours.
3-8 hours of battery life is horrendous, perhaps you don't realise it because that's all you're used to. I could play DS games on an emulator on my phone for longer. Even the freaking PSP has a better battery, and it was bashed for having low battery life when it came out.
Plus, that count is incredibly generous. Once 3DS games actually start coming out, you'll only be getting around 3-4 hours of life playing them.

What? 3 - 8 hours and you call that horrendous? My laptop's battery life is 10 minutes! and my old DS's battery life was 1 hour!

Yep. Not everything is perfect, like I'd assume is the case in Kefka's world of electronics.
My DSi's battery life is about 15 mins. ON THE CHARGER

well who tha hell would have the time to play for 8 hours straight anyway? if u say "Well, i do!" then u need:
-sleep
-a job
-friends
-a life, usually generated by the first 3.
If you can't afford it without trading in another console, you shouldn't get it.
Save money for one of the newer versions instead

1. lithium ion 6 cell.
2. computer really slow.
3. lasts about 2 minutes on high performance, which is not that high at all.
4. lasts 10 minutes on power-saver, which makes it lag like black ops on a netbook.
5. it originally cost $1000.
You don't understand the point of a long battery life. Perhaps you are away from a charger for a long period of time, or would like to not be rushing to the charger after using it for a day. It's simply poor design to be unable to accommodate a better battery, or not properly balancing the hardware with the power cost.
just charge it at night and close it when ur not using it and you'll be fine.
^exactly. I don't know why Kefka is so set on believing that the 3DS is so horrible.
I never said that. I'm just pointing out it's a rather large downside. There's a reason literally every review by a legitimate source cites that as a negative aspect. If you would just stop being fanboys for 20 seconds you would realise that not everything about the thing is godly.

ok, but theres a problem: U DONT OWN A 3DS=therefore U DONT KNOW THE BATTERY LIFE 1st HAND. so stop being an anti-fanboy and give it a chance.
Here are some examples of reviewers who say of poor battery life

They all say 3-5 hours... maybe you guys find ways to prolong battery life. Hell, my old cellphone has better battery life at 8 hours on average -- fucking "4G" and massive screen size make it shitty -- wp7 fixed that for me!

My brother has one.

What, the bad grammar? Some people just don't type fast.
You play a portable device for 3-5 hours straight in one day? I mean, DS's aren't meant for hardcore gaming. But yeah, a 5 - 8 hour battery life would be great, but what do you expect out of such a resource-intensive portable system? I'm sure the future upgrades will be better.
OK, so I see that this is mostly about it's battery life. Is that the only thing bad on it? I mean, having no games on it can easily change, because they are probably going to make a whole lot more soon to come. So let's just say it has an average battery life (hypothetically), is all the other stuff worth buying? It's not like I'm on it every day all day.
I play a lot on my phone and it only got 3 hours of battery, what's the problem? 3-4 hours is enough in my opinion

Nope nothing else really, but still wait for the update coming late may-theres gonna be a shitload a new stuff. Right now, for example, there's a button for the internet browser that doesnt even exsist yet. Clicking it only brings up a message that says "this feature will come with an update".

The games currently are REALLY shitty. The only epic game coming out is OoT 3D on June 19th.
I am, however, going to wait for the 2nd gen one... if that. It all depends if I depart video games for a while. who knows?
OUCH! (http://news.cnet.com/why-the-3ds-isnt-selling-well/8301-17938_105-20059830-1.html?tag=nl.e775)
Yea that's basically exactly everything I've said. Any goddamn reasonable person would see that there are flaws, half of you just have to be fool fanboys :|
Unless the specs are semi appealing for the price, there's no way I'd buy it.
If the 3DS was $150, it might pop into the maybe radar.
I usually buy things to upgrade, like my next phone will have a dual-core processor, more than 8 GB of HD space, maybe 1 GB of RAM (if that exists)... the technology sucks... and really, gyroscope AND an analog stick (PICK ONE NINTENDO!)
Why can't they have both? :3
The problem is that motion controls don't work at all with the narrow viewing angle. Just tilting the screen a little can totally throw off the 3D, and it really is just a shame to have to turn it off because it doesn't work properly. Plus if you try to play while in a moving vehicle, or at least in a subway or bus, the shaking makes it incredibly straining to get the 3D effect right.
The tech just doesn't feel ready.
yeah, that's why it's better as a home system rather than portable device. But I was just pointing out the battery life isn't bad :)
Quote from: destructoidOriginally scheduled for launch some time this month, Nintendo has pushed back the already late release (because it should've been ready when the damn system was out) of the 3DS eShop until June. According to the company, North America will get it June 6, and Japan will get it June 7.
North America before Japan? well that's new.
North America (meaning the US) has a much larger consumer base than Japan, not to mention they can capitalize here, while Japan is still picking up the pieces
What game is that talking aboot?
Give the 3DS some time. It'll improve. :)

Maybe that time is right now.
So, after the E3 meeting, what do you guys think about the idea of getting a 3DS now? I didn't close the poll for a reason you know.
I'm still awaiting an announcement from AlphaDream before I'm tempted to buy one.
What's AlphaDream supposed to announce? A new game?
Eh...you dont need one now, unless you MUST play oot in 3d. Don't get me wrong, its great-but other than that you shoud wait for the games to come out.
OOT would be pretty awesome to play... But you're right, I don't need one. No one "needs" one, actually. Alright, I'm closing the poll. I'll just see what the ratings on the games are when they come out.
Quote from: Ragster2448 on June 08, 2011, 04:51:20 PMWhat's AlphaDream supposed to announce? A new game?
They have created the godly games called:
[GBA]Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[NDS]Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[NDS]Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside StoryI'm waiting for the release of
[N3DS]Mario & Luigi: RPG 4.
Oh, that's right... Well, Paper Mario is sort of an RPG, and they're coming out with one on the 3DS.
Mhm. I haven't played any Paper Mario games... I should though. I've heard the first two were awesome, but the Wii one sucked.
Whoever told you that is correct.
