So, here you put your favorite video game song of all time, plus a link on youtube (if possible).
Mine I'd have to say would be the Title theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwU_WueGQQM) from Diddy Kong Racing.
To Far Away Times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSgKzZor7k0)
Ima sucker for accordions:
Moonlight Tango (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gtz9BXsj_qQ)
New Super Mario Bros. Overworld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHnppEpauGE)
Super Mario 64 - End Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVKj3u8JUm0)
Umm...there are so many! xD Well one that rises above the rest is Professor Layton's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFBKHSitIjo)... if you like it check out the live version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiHKGmb7_jA)...it's amazing.
Score:
Tomohito Nishiura: 2
The rest: Who cares?
lol yeah Nishiura is a genius. I like his Layton stuff better than Dark Cloud though...maybe it's because I've never played Dark Cloud. Some other good ones from him are the main theme from the second Layton game, Theme of the Elysian Box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_3HtzKjgd0); as well as the live version of More London Streets (http://live%20version%20of%20more%20london%20streets). Both fantastic.
Chrono Cross - Voyage (Home World) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m57kb5d3wZ4)
The Chrono Cross soundtrack is my absolute favorite of all time
Gosh, there's a lot of good ones to chose from... Personally, I like this one the best:
Magnus von Grapple Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA_5D3itRug)
Oh man, do we have to choose? There are so many of them!
If I must pick just ONE, I suppose I'd have to name ]The Final Fantasy Prelude (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI3r8-HA0kA&feature=related) as my absolute favorite.
I have a bajillion and one different arrangements and remixes of it saved on my computer and I have yet to get tired of listening to the tune.
Running Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj2pbphWPOk&feature=related) or Labyrinth Fight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scxcRX2zMbQ&feature=related)
I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THIS CUTE MUSIC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWihfZl0JPs)
It's from Kirby's Epic Yarn, Snowy Fields...and the soundtrack is just incredible....
Although probably not my MOST favorite, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl version of Gourmet Race (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvjPa4RnSxY) is one of them.
(There's also the Kirby's Epic Yarn Version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMMRAByx-XU&feature=related))
No, no, clearly the best song from Epic Yarn is the Green Greens arrangement. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KDCP66W-K0&feature=related) Whenever that recorder kicks in I can't help grinning like an idiot. :D
That was good, but I think the use of piano in that game got a bit tiresome after a while.
Ah, yes. I rather enjoy the main theme of Super Mario Galaxy 2 (first appears in Sky Station, then is remixed in Freely Flake, Wild Glide, and others)
Sorry, but the piano never got old. Every song sounded different and memorable despite being played on the same instrument. Each piano tune perfectly matched its environment and the varied atmospheres of the locales provided some great variety in the songs. I LOVE that soundtrack and still listen to it today. I can't imagine it ever getting tiresome.
Also, so few soundtracks are arranged for particular instruments so hearing a simple piano based soundtrack was quie a refresher from a lot of the electronic or bombastic orchestral soundtracks out there.
Quote from: SlowPokemon on July 01, 2011, 07:59:31 PMThat was good, but I think the use of piano in that game got a bit tiresome after a while.
Oh you did NOT just go there.
Some game soundtracks reserve the simpler, acoustic instruments only for emotional impact, generally sad or mournful tunes in order to constrat the larger, more energetic themes used in battle or whatever. Kirby's Epic Yarn (and Wario Land: Shake It! which featured the same composer) is notable in that it uses the piano not just for these particular moments but instead utilizes a less-frequently applied emotion: simple whimsical joy.
That is what appeals to me the most about the soundtrack. Every layer, every texture contributes to that sense of childlike glee, but the piano is the instrument that carries that feeling the strongest.
Yay for Sekter and SWMadness!
Lol. Maybe my feelings for the game are coming through and influencing my statements about the soundtrack. I was not a fan of that game, I found it to be quite honestly a huge disappointment. Hopefully the new Kirby Wii will be better.
That's probably true. Honestly, I probably did the same thing, only I have the opposite opinion of the game. I really love Kirby's Epic Yarn. It was my first Kirby game and a great introduction to the series. But I am looking forward to the new Kirby Wii game too.
Tho I'm not a big kirby fan at all ::) I greatly enjoyed Epic Yarn. Like Canvas Curse, something totally new was tried in the Kirby series unlike any other in any other game in the series. Also it was madly fun and just a great feel good game. Also, I personally loved the simplicity Epic Yarn's soundtrack. Just and onslaught of piano awesomeness which just adds to the cheeriness of the game. But personally my favortie song was Flower Fields (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZikp2gbZwo)
I feel so ashamed. I listen to Kirby's Epic Yarn music and I am a huge kirby...but I never played Kirby's Epic Yarn. *gasp* D: I'm waiting for my next paycheck to get that game and I know it'll be worth it. :) Kirby games are just so unique...so cute and badass at the same time. I LOVE IT. Kirby not badass? Get 100% on Kirby's Dreamland 3 and/or 100% on Kirby 64. and fight the true final boss. :P
Anyways, I recently began to love this music:

Kirby 64 ftw :D Been on my head all day long.
The music from Kirby's Epic Yarn is very wonderful and I especially loved how the piano is constantly used. The piano really did help out bring that "feel good" feeling of the game. Even though many of the music from the game is diverse, the piano did in a way help keep the flow...like it didn't really made every music stand out on it's own too much. It basically helps keep the mood throughout the game. xD Then again...I am a piano major, so why wouldn't I wuv the piano? :3

you read my mind. for mario theme, I would say this one and athletic virtuso of SMW on SNES. Kirby I would say all of them, and sonic I really don't pay attention, and DK I find interesting, but no comment.

Okay, I officially have a new favorite. It's the final boss music from Yoshi's Island. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Ose7A8P94)
Oh yes. I retract my previous statement, I love the Green Greens arrangement for Epic Yarn. It's ridiculously catchy xD
All this Kirby music is amazing but my personal favorite Kirby music is a tie between these three:

I have a new favorite again...It's the Champion Battle music from Pokemon Gold/Silver Version. (I'm too lazy to post the link - do it yourself)
Might I solidify your new-found favorite with an epic remix of said Champion theme? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSKxTqDvsas&feature=related

Pretty epic choice there, sir.
As far as G/S goes, I really love Route 38 and Route 26. The HGSS Route 47 is also awesome. The FireRed/LeafGreen remix of Violet City, Azalea Town, and Route 42 were all awesome as well :)

ikr?
the only thing I hate about this is that the ending is so abrupt.
Ugh, my mind tries to remember the fan made lyrics whenever this song plays. T_T
It sounds amazing and is much better without any words.
e: Everyone on his youtube profile page is asking if this guy is dead. o.o
From now on, all my new "favorites" are tied. Coincidentally, I have another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv6kHbUwQf8

Ha ha I was just about to post that same song. I've had it on my Ipod for AGES. \m/
Dancing Mad.
Absolutely LOVE this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFKtYCcMWT4
EDIT: And then, of course, there's the piano version on our site. (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/MegaMan/MegaMan2/DrWilysStages1.mid)
My favourite song of ALL TIME?!? Hard to say, but I´ll take this 3:
1. Kanto Gym Leader Battle (Pokémon HG/SS) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4FaW2FLvxE)
2. Last Time Travel Theme (Prof. Layton and the Unwound Future) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0aMC5W6vVA)
3. Bowser´s Galaxy Generator (Super Mario Galaxy 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEN7gYTQyfU&feature=relmfu)
The intro from the Kanto Gym Leader Battle is EPIC.
xD I always liked the FireRed/LeafGreen version better, but that's just because it's more nostalgic I guess.
Also, the most amazing intro ever is the Johto Gym Leader Battle from HGSS/GSC. I love the intro.
Desire Drive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyGQeXBL8no)
Holy shit I love it so much.
Plus the video response to that above video makes the song even more awesome.

Fucking Okami, man. Fucking Okami. The final boss music. It's just... no words.
Family from Super Mario Galaxy...unlike the epic approach, this is the more...musically beautiful approach.
look! it's me playing it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wzOfpooH-g (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wzOfpooH-g)

Jeez, I have like 100 but here is one I really like: http://youtu.be/9OO5VAKk0d8
I guess this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd6uH15cJRM&feature=related) is the newest to land in my top 10.
I'm getting into the Pokemon Anime Sound Collection.
I had this sucker stuck in my head the other day and I didn't care at all.
Probably Wind Scene from Chrono Trigger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hELte7HgL2Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hELte7HgL2Y)

WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?
Quote from: Super Zombie on September 02, 2011, 05:58:23 PMWHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?
I dunno it's a very pwetty piece and I adore the chrono trigger soundtrack to bits. I think my perception of it has been corrupted by the thousands of piano covers of it. I tend to hate video game tunes that are overplayed for some irrational reason.
And yet you manage to love the GSC Champion battle theme.
yeah I fully admit that some/most of my views can be contradictory and hypocritical.
I've never played Chrono Trigger, but I have listened to a lot of its soundtrack because of Zohar's piano performances of the game on Youtube. Honestly, I don't really like the Wind Scene; I much prefer the melancholy beauty of "Secret of the Forest" (also called "Guardia Forest").
