IT'S SO GOOD
Everything on the grill (except fish)
Fries and garlicbutter to that makes it perfect
Gonna eat pizza tonight <3
I also enjoy garlic-y foods. :3 And spicy! I love hot wings.
Mmm... pizza. Speaking of Italian, there's an AMAZING place that's not too far. Authentic - best by far. They're all from Naples, so it's not crappy Americanized Italian good.
Step one: Steamed rice
Step two: Cabbage
Step three: Take lots of bacon, mash it up, and mix everything together.
Bacon, cabbage, and rice is like, the best meal ever. You have no idea.
I can beat that. How? With STEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Obviously you've never tried it before. XD
Everything at Panera.

Fuck this topic. So hungry...
kefka stop it you're making me want to eat my computer screen
That Pizza is SOOOO good.
I may have to go downtown for lunch just to get some REALLY GREAT food!
I just love decent food!
So I discovered this week that a waffle iron can double as a delicious sandwich press. mmmmmmmm, I'm gonna go make a waffle iron sandwich right now. This topic is making me to hungry.
I'm snacking on delicious pita chips. XD Despite my craving... of just about everything on this thread...
Anything Italian is my favorite. Lasagna has to be one of the best, though. Stoufers makes the best lasagna... :P
Edit: ALSO GRILLED SALMON, that stuff is just pure awesome.
OMG KEFKA YOUR NEAR/IN SEATTLE, RIGHT? You need to go to the giant fish market on the water front. BEST SALMON I'VE EVER HAD.
Seattle's fish market is one of it's best features
Yeah! Seattle has great fish!
There's this great restaurant in Capitol Hill called Coastal Kitchen. The owner spends 6 months in a country learning local recipes then brings them back to the restaurant in Seattle and changes the menu. It is AMAZING!
what
DrP can you take me there ;A;

Last time I went it was Cuban cuisine, this time its Moroccan (you can look at the menus here (http://www.seattle-eats.com/coastalkitchen/aboutck)) -- and I wish, but I don't live in Seattle. However, if you come visit me here in SLO, I can take you to here (http://www.splashbakery.com) or here (http://www.bigskycafe.com)
Quote from: SuperFireKirby on September 17, 2011, 06:03:57 PMI think i ate there for lunch on my last trip there! It's really close to the fish market, right?
Probably not. It's on 15th, so it's far from the water (because Im sure the fish market is close to the water, like the Pike Market)
-packs bags- To SLO then!
...I wish. xD
... well, have you ever been to California??? You definitely should one of these days (I do make a great tour guide [even though I'd rather live somewhere else])
I personally love Big Sky because there is so much stuff to choose from (and the majority of the produce and meat is LOCAL -- as in San Luis Obispo County Local -- so IT IS FRESH AND AMAZING!)
I haven't, actually. I've got a few relatives, though. So if I ever am visiting, and nearby, we should totally hang.
We need an NSM meet up one day u_u
I will be on thursday, but I don't like seafood.
jerk
Well the only seafood I've liked is marlin, and that's the stuff you're never supposed to eat ever unless you like mercury poisoning.
Quote from: KefkaticFanatic on September 17, 2011, 07:13:04 PMI will be on thursday, but I don't like seafood.
I used to hate it, but I warmed up to it slowly.
Now I'll eat salmon all day if I could!!!
(I still hate Lobster, Crab and other shellfish minus Shrimp and Clams in Clam Chowder) -- normal fish is still delicious. (Except the Silkas my grandmother makes for Kucios [Google it])
In terms of other great food, The Brooklyn is an amazing steakhouse (and seafood restaurant too!)
EDIT: And since I didn't eat dinner, I am now SUPERRRRR hungry and all the food places on campus are closed. Oh how I can't wait for 24 hour pizza to start up in October!
I think Crab legs are really good, the only problem is that you have to work for it. :P It's kind of annoying when you break the leg open to find a hair of meat.
I'm not a big salmon fan but the salmon from Pike Market OMG SO TASTY.
But the best seafood is definitely Ahi Tuna. It's the steak of the sea. Get it encrusted with pepper corns, best seafood evur!

Here's a picture :3
http://studiolino.com/em/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/pupusas.jpg
It's basically like a very thick maize tortilla with cheese. :) Sometimes the cheese is mixed with pork which is pretty delicious.
I made some pumpkin bread for dessert tonight :3
Have you tried pumpkin Pocky? :D
No ;A; I have no idea where to even find it.
Wal-Mart.
...really? I've never seen pocky flavours other than strawberry and chocolate in there.
So you do know where to find it.
Not things like Pumpkin pocky. If that exists somewhere locally I need to have it. o_o
Omg, there's pumpkin pocky? I'll look next time I go to the Asian market.
I should just convince my mom to take me there, and I can hunt for delicious Asian snacks there.
My mom is the one that stated going there after we went to Japan ::)
I was always satisfied with chocolate... But I guess if there's others, i'll have to try them too D:

Looove crab legs but also agree that they're annoying to eat.
I was considering starting a new topic, but I discovered this before I made one... so I'll just resurrect this one instead of getting a message from Kefka that this exists!

And I made the hummus today! IT IS FANTASTIC!!!
That looks delicious. Me wants it inside me.
I whipped together a good breakfast sandwich.
I made grilled cheese, tossed spiced up eggs (pepper, salt, oregano), spicy sausage and some hot sauce on it all. Best sandwich EVER
Just without the hot stuff, I can't take in spicy stuff. For me, the best is grilled cheese, fried bacon, fried eggs, mayonnaise, and with sea salt. It's pretty much identical to the one you posted except for the hot sauce being replaced by mayonnaise.
Best breakfast: An omelet with sun-dried tomato pesto, lots of ham, shredded cheese, and mushrooms. Then put it between to pieces of wheat toast. It's my go to when there's nothing else to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Mmmmmmm, sausage actually sounds really good with that.
So I've been making stuff.

Minestrone should be really chunky. I always add more vegetables and stuff but I never add enough broth.
The last one I made had a larger concentration of broth.
Next time I go to the store, I'm getting ingredients for Chicken Noodle!!!
My favorite food is Escargot, nothing beats eating a few good snails. ;D
Pad Thai, anyone?
That stuff is like drugs to me; I could eat it till I died, if I had enough money...

Challenge Accepted. What the hell is that rectangular stuff at the top? a different type of noodle?
and what is the stuff to the immediate left of it?
The flat stuff are bamboo (I think)... they come in a can in most grocery stores. The stuff to the left is kale.
So it looks like there are: noodles, a hardboiled egg, corn, bean sprouts, kale/greens, bamboo, scallions and a meat broth!

Yeah you're supposed to incorporate the egg(s) before the dry ingredients. That's what Good Eats taught me at least.
Edit: It wasn't affected. It still tasted like yummy deliciousness though it could use a bit more cinnamon.
Stuff like that will just slightly change texture, weight, etc. Usually it will still end up ok, it's just that it would be better if you go along with the standard :P

I haven't found a restaurant that serves wontons similar to the one my dad makes. I should find out how he makes the filling...my sisters and I all used to spend a morning making them and stuff.
I know there's pork, mushroom and shrimp in it though :D the pork is pounded until it's almost a paste and the other stuff is diced. Then you put about a spoonful of it in a wonton skin, spread some egg on the edge and fold it.

I died and went to heaven (and I seriously needed something to help me this week... everything/everyone is against me... my life is really in the shitter right now)
This is the LULU Burger. It is half ground lamb and half ground chuck with melted brie, onions, lettuce, cilantro and a mint aioli sauce. The Fries were TO DIE FOR!!

Was downtown with the mother today having dinner... and since it was Thursday Night, it was the weekly farmer's market...
WHICH IS EPIC
Look at the freshness!

I have gotten the best cherries I have ever tasted, and I've had cherries from Virginia and New York!
The Strawberries were to DIE FOR and the broccoli we got had the perfect crunch!
I'm gonna go a lot next year because I have a car!!
Had a burger today. It was a burger where the meat was mixed with cajun spices, topped with pepper jack, a giant onion ring, and smaller onions sauteed in BBQ sauce in that giant onion ring. SO FULL.
My friend gave me a great tip about oatmeal... plain oatmeal with apple sauce and cinnamon!!! IT WAS AMAZING! It's not too sweet and it's good for you!
I made some smoothies using the fresh fruit I got back at school for breakfast... amazing as always
And for dinner I'm having a small sandwich with the Wine Country Chicken Salad from Trader Joes (LOVE THAT STORE!!!!)

My rice cooker doesn't have any heat settings so I do it in a stock pot. I can get the texture somewhat right, but it's mostly flavour that I'm lacking.

most recipes I see are for about 2-3 hours. Though there's one video that has it at 45-ish minutes simmering on medium heat.

Apple Cheddar Palmiers
Ingredients
■2 Tb. butter
■2 baking apples, peeled and diced
■2 shallots, chopped
■½ tsp. nutmeg
■Salt and pepper
■1 ½ cup sharp grated cheddar
■2 sheets puff pastry (1 box)
■1 egg
Instructions
1.Lay each piece of puff pastry on its own piece of parchment paper and roll them lightly.
2.Preheat a skillet to medium-high. Saute the apples and shallots in butter for 3-5 minutes. Add the nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste.
3.Top both pieces with apple mixture and distribute evenly. Then top with them with shredded cheese.
4.Fold the pastry sheets inward ¼ of the width on both ends. Fold in again so that the dough meets in the middle. Fold one more time.
5.Wrap the rolls in the paper and put the rolls in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to chill before cutting. (Wrap them well if you are prepping ahead).
6.When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Carefully slice each roll into 12-15 ½ inch slices and lay flat on parchment paper lined baking sheets. Whisk the egg and brush it over the tops. Bake for 12-14 minutes.

Guaca goes good with ANYTHING. >:(
LIKE SRIRACHAAA
Spaguetti à la Carbonnara is my favorite dish! I'm Portuguese, our food is absolutely amazing, but the italian food.. It's a proof that miracles exists! It's like portuguese food is my wife, and the italian food is my lover... And sometimes I like to be with hookers/ Mcdonald's :)
I took a lot of time and trys to do a really good Carbonnara, but now I can do a really good one, and I'm happier (and fatter) with that!

What: Some pasta I made with basil, chopped roma tomatoes and thinly sliced garlic, sautéed and sprinkled with romano cheese.
Most of these came from one little café that I just discovered. I LOVE THIS PLACE! So much, I bring groups of residents every Friday for "Hipster Fridays" -- we dress up as hipsters and act like them and eat legit food... so I'll be going there today!
DAMN... I forgot to take a picture of the grilled cheese. IT IS THE BEST GRILLED CHEESE EVER!! It is brie, cheddar and mozzerella with PESTO and garlic aioli on bread (this bread is basically a miche version of baguette).
It's almost midnight over here...and my stomach is growling like no tomorrow...

According to my friend, who's dad is the head chef at this place, he HAND MAKES the mozzarella and the stuff for each day.
This is Italian artisan bread (made in Sonoma), Mozzarella (made in St. Helena), peppers (grown in Napa), tomatoes (grown in Napa), basil (grown at the vineyard), garlic (grown in Yountville) and olive tapenade (made from olives from St Helena).
IT IS SO LOCAL... Portlanders would be proud.
And I have to say it was 'hella' good.
Although it's almost to the point of being cliche....

The only reason why I go to starbucks is because it's the only place to get coffee around here. San Jose is like a gigantic suburb and decent coffee shops are found in places like San Francisco.

I got some stuff from Indonesia (the brown bag on the bottom left) and a bag of one of the Ritual coffees.
Philz is a popular coffee place out here, but sadly they only do drip coffee (which I can do at home -- and I like to go out for Lattes)

Mmm, my favourite kind of sandwich!
My boyfriend won a gift certificate from a holiday party. It was $50 to a place called Fleming's Steakhouse. Now this place is pretty fancy, but neither of us had been there before, so we dressed up real nice and went out to dinner. The restaurant was all elaborate... the waitress addressed us by name, explained the entire menu, and offered us wine. Once she handed out the menus, and I looked inside, my jaw dropped. $55 for a f****** steak??? Are you kidding me?? That was JUST the cost of the entree! No sides, no drinks, no appetizers, those were all extra. So since we only had $50 to spend, my bf ordered a pork chop for $34 (bone in, 1/2 inch of fat on the sides...) and I ordered a $10 salad. And do you want to know what a $10 salad looks like at this restaurant? Like this:
Spoiler

(sorry for the picture quality, it was dark in there and I have a shitty camera on my phone)
LITERALLY that is a 1/4 head of lettuce + 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half + a slice of bacon + a few pumpkin seeds sprinkled on top, served with some bleu cheese.
All for $10! 10 DOLLARS!!!! I could've made that myself for less than 1 DOLLAR!!! WTF!!
The pork tasted pretty good, but this meal was in no way filling. We ended up stopping at Del Taco on the way home because we were still hungry -____-
I don't know why people pay money for that stuff.
Probably cause it looks fancy and people like quality food.
The most expensive meal I ever bought was a family-pizza for 12€, I think...
That is usually my price range for food as well... This place was ridiculous.
Quote from: AwesomeYears on January 25, 2015, 01:47:11 PMProbably cause it looks fancy and people like quality food.
I wouldn't exactly call it "quality food". It was iceberg lettuce (the cheapest and least nutritious kind) and the tomatoes and bacon tasted just like any other tomatoes and bacon. I've never cooked a pork chop in my life but I'm sure I could cook it just as well as they did haha. Maybe their specialty - steak - might have been better quality than other steaks but I didn't get to try it :(
Now I want a pizza again... Damn...
Story time! So my dad originally came from England and came to Australia by ship when he was 13. (Note this is in the late 1970's) Now one night, my dad decided to have dinner with himself and not his parents, and that he would order his own. When the menu arrived, it was all in French so Dad couldn't understand what foods there were. 5 minutes later, he chooses four small meals, but when he was about to tell the waiter, a Indian woman with her son on the other table trys to convince my dad to not order those meals, but Dad orders them anyway. When the meal arrived, on those four plates were different kinds of cooked potato (boiled, baked etc.)
My dad cried that night...
boil em mash em stick em in a stew
Quote from: AwesomeYears on January 25, 2015, 03:27:22 PMMy dad cried that night...
As a person who loves potates, I have to ask: Did he cry because of the joy?
Would you be happy if you had to eat only potato for dinner? (Maybe in Ireland)
Well, it depends if they were good potatoes or not.
Quote from: AwesomeYears on January 25, 2015, 04:49:46 PMWould you be happy if you had to eat only potato for dinner? (Maybe in Ireland)
Well no, since it lacks the protein, but if I could also get a shake, then yes! Any day!
Quote from: BlackDragonSlayer on January 25, 2015, 04:52:08 PMWell, it depends if they were good potatoes or not.
There is no such thing like "not good potatoes"! Potatoes are awesome!

Yeah. That didn't look quite appetizing. Some places charge more for "exclusivity" or ambiance, which I'm guessing might factor into it.
The burger in my 2nd recent post was $20, but since it was San Francisco and the ingredients used weren't cheap (they actually told us which farm the beef came from), I figured it was worth it (and my firm was paying for it too, so it didn't really matter that much).
Quote from: AwesomeYears on January 25, 2015, 04:49:46 PMWould you be happy if you had to eat only potato for dinner? (Maybe in Ireland)
Sometimes if you're not super hungry, you can just make a baked potato and its perfectly statisfying. You could also add cheese, sour cream, bacon, onions.
Quote from: Xaoz on January 25, 2015, 05:13:12 PMWell no, since it lacks the protein, but if I could also get a shake, then yes! Any day!
Potatoes and a Shake? Might as well add the hamburger too.

A typical meal like that is a Hamburger/Cheeseburger, Fries and a Shake.
It's as American as Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Baseball
Lol everyone is complaining about expensive food xD The upscale places here still cost way more and it's not always guaranteed it's good. My sister ordered a full course dinner from this fancy, overrated place called "Maialino" (Online menu says it's $80 per person) and the fish was uncooked (red in the middle), and the lava cake was overcooked (completely solid).
Kefka and I went to the Central Park Boathouse and looked at the menu, and immediately walked away xD Same with the Space Needle restaurant...I remember ordering a seltzer at the Boathouse on someone's offer and it was $4 a glass. I should have just asked them to give me the $4 xD

That's why I call SF, San Foodcisco.
It's AMAZING!
You must visit.
I've gotta go to SanFran one day. For the food.
That's really the only reason I will go into the city on a whim. THE FOOD!
One day in the future, we need to have a food adventure. Foodventure. y/y
Quote from: Nebbles on January 28, 2015, 02:40:07 PMOne day in the future, we need to have a food adventure. Foodventure. y/y
HECK YES!
If you (or anyone I deem to know well) ever wants to come to the Bay Area, you have a place to crash!
However for a Foodventure in San Francisco, you need a week because some places are only open for 1 day a week
I am fine with a week of Foodventuring.
Plus if we plan it well enough in advance, I can get a reservation at the French Laundry (a restaurant in Napa with 3 Michelin Stars)
Ooooh, sounds amazing! We gotta hunt for some amazing food trucks too I've see on Eat Street (which I love watching).
Quote from: Nebbles on January 28, 2015, 05:36:49 PMOoooh, sounds amazing! We gotta hunt for some amazing food trucks too I've see on Eat Street (which I love watching).
You don't need to hunt.
In SF, they have this thing called "Off the Grid" where a bunch of food trucks come to a plaza somewhere in SF and you can get food there.
They even have a website!
Whaaaaat!! That sounds amazing :o
This isn't super food related, but is still in the category of it.
I got a new bar set today!! It's ridiculously awesome. Boston Shaker. Jigger. Cocktail Spoon. Big Ice Cube Tray. Strainer and some specialty cocktail cherries!!!

I honestly have so much alcohol that I can probably get the entire tax department at my client hammered.
Careful with that cube tray, I almost went for one but bailed because of reviews talking about it eventually starts to pick up freezer burn smells and deposits them into the ice. Otherwise yaaa nice set, I have slowly pieced together a similar set but with a cobbler shaker instead + recently acquired lemon/lime squeezer. Fresh tom collins are gudddd

See!! I told you they'd be so good! and the fresh lemon makes it all the more better.
I managed to get a bottle of lemon infused simple syrup, so I just mix that with gin and club soda. I might just do that soon (once I have a pot of coffee in me).
I think my next big purchase will be copper mugs for Moscow Mules. Plus I might start experimenting with mixing stuff!

I'm never had a tom collins... I should try one.
They're tasty and super easy, but you have to be careful about the gin sometimes. I use 2oz tanqueray which is about 95 proof so... it can fuck you up if you have less than a full stomach :P

I just made one. I used 3oz Bombay Sapphire (which is 94 proof) and I shook it with 1oz lemon simple syrup. I poured it over 1 icecube. Added club soda, 2 bourbon soaked cherries and 1tsp of the cherry juice.
I wish I had skewers to i could lay the cherries across the top of the glass, but it's really for show purposes and not necessary in this instance.

Duly noted. I had a sloe gin fizz a while ago which I really enjoyed too.
Seeing your glass reminds me I have to go out and find a good spot to buy a variety of glasses >.> right now all I have are some cheapo ikea drink glasses + 1 nice collins glass. All the stuff I have now is stemless (except wine glasses). I think I still have my collins glasses wrapped up and I'm way too lazy to unpack them.
I got my glasses at Crate and Barrel (you could also try Sur la Table). Their glasses usually run about $3-$7 each. I also have some Bodum glasses that I use for simple things like G&Ts, Vodka sodas, etc..
For my next place, I want to buy a sideboard for everything, because right now, I'm using a 2x2 ikea bookshelf. It actually works really well

Remy is dumb, she doesn't know that when cooked most of the alcohol burns away!

boo
That looks pretty good!
I'm not the biggest fan of vodka sauce though. It does look a little on the liquid-y side.
I agree, but I didn't want to wait for it to reduce any further :V
It was still tasty though and with the penne shaped as it is I didn't end up with a pool of sauce at the bottom of the plate.
I always use penne for everything! It's perfectly manageable for a sauce like that too.
I haven't made much lately because of work/home for my dad's memorial.
but I made this last week and it was delicious!

Quote from: KefkaticFanatic on February 23, 2015, 01:32:43 AMRemy is dumb, she doesn't know that when cooked most of the alcohol burns away!
"Some people believe that food items cooked with wine or liquor will be totally non-alcoholic, because alcohol's low boiling point causes it to evaporate quickly when heated. However, a study found that some of the alcohol remains: 25 percent after one hour of baking or simmering, and 10 percent after two hours; in either case, however, the amount consumed while eating a dish prepared with alcohol will rarely if ever contain sufficient alcohol to cause even low levels of intoxication.[3][4]"

Quote from: Nebbles on April 06, 2015, 03:01:03 PM6 shots? Damn. What's in a gin mule, anyway?
It was actually 4 shots. Forgot the 0.5oz per shot
But the recipe is:
6oz gin
6oz ginger beer
limes
ice
Fairly simple. Extremely delicious.
Variant of moscow mule, and yes highly tasty. Just remember that ginger beer =/= ginger ale.
Yum, that sounds really good.
Quote from: Nebbles on April 06, 2015, 06:03:15 PMYum, that sounds really good.
It is (I made another one). I've had the ginger beer since before lent so I can finally use it!! WFM has it pretty cheap.
The copper mug is what makes it though. All ingredients react with the copper a bit to bring out the flavors in the alcohol, increasing the bubbles in the ginger beer and reducing the acidity of the lime.
Ooooh, really? That's really neat, never knew that.
wow, that looks great!

to smack your customers if they don't like your marvellous creation
Back before ice cube trays, bartenders would put large blocks of ice in a canvas bag and whack it with a hammer to break it into chips.

Welp, I just found my new favorite thread. XD
I guess I'll share my recent food-ventures. I made coconut ice cream the other day, but it did not turn out so great. I think it was that the container that I put it in is not very well insulated, so I just had to have it as a sort of cream. Otherwise, I could eat ice chips. At least it tasted good ;D
Man, I'm always afraid to try new foods as they look threatening to me. But I will usually try it then decide.
Don't have pictures, but I went to Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que today (graduation was up in Murrieta), and had fried catfish and shrimp. It was pretty good, although a little too spicy (their shoestring fries were surprisingly good, though). Their biscuits and apple butter are undeniably amazing, though- they're meal-worthy by themselves!
I took some friends out for pho today! Pho is honestly one of my favorite foods in existence.

There's a pretty good pho place near me, but they only offer two bowl sizes: tiny and HUGE. '-_- Also, I'm not keen on a lot of the vegetables they put in it, but I don't know how reliable they are about custom orders (only been there once, but might have to go back to experiment!).

Wow wow wow, so many tantalising dishes! DrP, you've visited NZ? Was there any particular food place you liked the most here? I find it so difficult to find good restaurants in my city, the options to eat out are usually either Asian, Italian or fish & chips, lol.
Mum's birthday will be coming up this Wednesday, she decided to go to an Italian restaurant. I won't say that it's a bad choice, but I was hoping for something more "exotic". ::) Might post about it here if it'll be worth sharing, though!
