I'd speak to Deku about those accidentals, he's the pro with those. It could be cleaned up.

But you should really take note of the chords that are too large for the players hand. That's something to watch for when using multiple layers.

I'd go into a huge amount of detail, but it's really not too bad. Though I haven't bothered to listen to the original, I was just looking at the score itself.

Hopefully I can comment on the accidentals while not being Deku D=

I'm not too sure if a key signature helps your cause in the first two measures. Kinda messes things up. I would also suggest using E# in measure 2 instead of F# to show clarity as well as less accidentals. Starting with an F# in the bass and descending like you did originally works out great.
I'm not sure what finale you're using, but there's an easier way to write an optional part for your measure 15. You could write it in a second layer and reduce the notehead size and mark it optional or put parentheses around those notes. Either one works better than your current solution and add more clarity to the performer. Rolling the chord in measure 16 could solve the previous problem mentioned and would fit the style I believe.
In measure 19 and onwards, you should use Db instead of C#. The notes in measure 16 highlight a Db triad that will appear in the upcoming section and using Db shows the normal interval of a major 3rd from Db-F as opposed to C#-F (diminished 4th). Measure 39-40 is the first measure of the Db major triad spelled Db-F-Ab and your arrangement should include this spelling (an other alternative solution for this section at 39-40 is to spell it as an C# major chord C#-E#-G# although typically most composers tend to write b2 instead of #1 any day. The fix at 19 should still be Db either way and either change requires a change in your arrangement). 43-44 contains an E major triad, E-G#-B. If you're going to use an F# major chord (as you have it spelled now) in measure 45-48, you have to keep with it! Use F#-A#-C# whenever possible and for the non chord tones, since we're spelling the chord sharp, should also be sharp. So use E# and D# (notes in an F# major scale) to accommodate that.

Accidentals keep the music clean, clear, and focused when used the correct way. Probably going to end up sounding like an asshole and always write more than is probably needed to be said. Tried to give a reason for everything. If you don't understand something I said, just hit me up with a message and I'll get back to you.
Great arrangement seriously though for a first time. When I started arranging I didn't know crap about accidentals. 4 semesters of theory and 2 semesters of composition later, boom haha. Keep on arranging! I can't wait to see more. :)

I added "Driftveil City" theme, from Pokémon Black & White. I know there's already one up, but (sorry Dr.Pamplemousse) I didn't think it served the original very well, soo I made my own arrangement...
Anyways, this has to be the coolest theme from the 5. generation games; I just love it! :)

Because it's "Relic Song" - Relic Song is the signature move of Meloetta, so yeah. I'm not sure if it is the official name, but an alternative name would be "Meloetta's Song", so it's not irrelevant if you get what I mean  :D

Well, I guess it's not bad, but the solo version turned out much better, though not as playable.

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say I dislike the 5th gen games, really, I do like them, It's just I don't feel like I'm playing Pokémon when I'm playing the later games - I grew up with 1st gen, so I'm kinda like a naggy old man when it comes to Pokémon.

Anyways, I'm also very excited for BW2 ! BW2 looks awesome and way better than BW in my opinion. When I read all the World Championship thing, I had the feeling I was in front of something big. Now I just need some Team Rocket besides Giovanni to really think it'll be perfect!

Something someone could criticize me for would be the clarinet/oboe solo at the bottom of the second page. I've noticed I'm pretty bad when it comes to transcribing stuff that goes very fast - just my patience and focus hating me, nothing bad with my aural skills or anything, but chances are that the mistakes are plentiful, so if anyone has anything to say; please.

That's what you intended to do, sure, but you can't call it a transcription if it's not accurate to the original (I listened to the original and maintain my suggestions). If you want to make a remix of the song then do as you please, but I don't think an arrangement with blatantly wrong altered notes will be accepted as a replacement.

Please keep in mind that my overall english is abit 'bad':
When I say "that's what I intendet to do" then I mean that's how I hear the original, and that's how I would like to transcribe-, arrange- and play-it.
I'm not sure what your last reply was about but if you are talking about the bottom chords at page 2:
The pizzicato strings in te original aren't playing the full chords, just the melody, but the chords are still there, in the feeling kinda. The melody is the same as the melody at te beginning (measure #10), but the chords are different - in the arrangement I included the chords with the melody - and those are the chords as I hear them in the original - if you would like to suggest different chords please, I want to hear them, but I maintain my suggestions for now, unless someone convinces me otherwise.
If you are talking about the f maj7 chords:
I don't see what's wrong with the maj7 chords. There are shitloads of maj7 chords throughout this arrangement (especially page2), there's even a couple of m9 chords! That's how I hear the original - which is why I intended to write it like this (as goes for the chords at bottom page2).
But again, if you would like to suggest other chords, please do. Otherwise I won't be able to take your criticism to concideration.
By the way, I haven't looked at the arrangement on the site closely, but if you're comparing mine with that one then it's quite possible the differences are plentiful, but I'll still maintain my suggestion in my arrangement - (example: an Eb chord in the other arrangement might be a Cm9 in mine...)
You're saying it's not an accurate transcription, that it has wrong/altered notes and that it would count as a remix instead of a transcription, but I must disagree with you. I allways try to transcribe accurate when it comes to chords and overall feeling and of course melody, I wouldn't dream of changing any of the notes; I write the way I hear things and try to bring to ear that "feeling" I get from the chords (example: chords at bottom page2).
As long as I haven't altered the song on purpose (and in a case, just made some mistakes) this counts as a transcription, an arrangement, and Not a remix.

It's the darn clarinet/oboe solo I'm unsure about (left hand, bottom page2).

And National Park is sweet! Only one thing, that right hand of measures 14, 15, 18 and 19 should be an octave higher. Oh, and you forgot to put Junichi Masuda as a composer too. Also, you should put the title and composer in bold and the copyright in plain. Only because that's what the sacred Formatting Guidelines say.

I MIGHT actually do it today (no guaranties), but then it probably won't be the final product - as you may have noticed, I like using hidden tracks in my songs which may take a while with this one - and no, I won't exclude them this time either :)

It's just that there are so many tuplets, but sure, I'll go with 4/4 - makes it easier to read - lot of people don't understand the concept of 12/8 and 6/8.

A tip for creating tuplets: when you put the first note of a triplet press 9 and it will create a triplet instantly. Trust me, saves time!  :D

Already know :) I recently started using the keyboard shortcuts for EVERYTHING: example: Remove parenthesized accidental: alt>shift>+. I've been cramping all these shortcuts for three weeks now - and it's worth it, saves so much time haha.

Wow! Sounds awesome so far! You've really transcribed the felling of the song! Little 'constructive' feedback (as I call it), though: I'm 99.99% sure that on measure 24 the pattern from measure 8 (piano 2, right hand) is repeated. I thought about putting it for the right hand in a second layer because it can be perfectly played, so the right hand of piano 2 (talking about measure 24) can still play the part that is already there, which is also ok.

And also, the part when the World 1 music starts I think it should be both f instead of mps, and then when it finishes yes, a p.

I can't wait to see the complete version!! This is one of my favorite songs in Melee, btw.

Wow! Sounds awesome so far! You've really transcribed the felling of the song! Little 'constructive' feedback (as I call it), though: I'm 99.99% sure that on measure 24 the pattern from measure 8 (piano 2, right hand) is repeated. I thought about putting it for the right hand in a second layer because it can be perfectly played, so the right hand of piano 2 (talking about measure 24) can still play the part that is already there, which is also ok.

And also, the part when the World 1 music starts I think it should be both f instead of mps, and then when it finishes yes, a p.

I can't wait to see the complete version!! This is one of my favorite songs in Melee, btw.

Mp, F and P are all volume markers. They tell the musician at what volume to preform. So basically it goes on the lines of this:

FF = Fortissimo = Very Loud
F = Forte = Loud
Mf = Modertly Loud
Mp = Modertly Soft
P = Piano = Soft
PP = Pianissimo = Very Soft

It goes further than that, with Finale only going up to Four F's or P's each, but I don't know what FFFF is called in Italian so :P . There's also others like SFZ which like crazy loud or something. I don't know it so I can't be sure :/ So what WarioMan means is:

I was just wondering, why do the midis for your arrangements include different instruments than just the piano?

Not only the midis, the audio in the .mus as well.
Usually I'm not satisfied with an arrangement unless the playback sounds good, and to make it sound as good as possible I tend to arrange for more instruments than just the piano. Then I hide the staves to make it a piano arrangement, but the audio of the other staves are still there.

There's probably alot more I could/should say. I looked at your Dr. Mario SSBM replacement, and the thing that stood at most to me was incorrectly spelled chromatics. As a rule of thumb, if you're chromatically ascending upwards, you use sharps, and if you're chromatically descending downwards, you use flats. I saw that you used several Ebs followed by an E natural, when you should have instead used a D# followed by an E. Reduces visual clutter that way. Try applying that principle where applicable.

Whenever you do something for Fixing the Sheets, go there, find the SSBM section, and edit accordingly. You don't have to do this of course, but I thought I'd let you know about the Wiki, since I've been using it myself to keep track of my Link's Awakening replacements.

On the rolled chords in Knight Academy, do you mean for them to be rolled chords or a glissando? Sounds like the midi is glissing instead of rolling.

The midi isn't glissing - I just put in an extra piano stave to enhance the sound of the rolling. What you're hearing is two pianos rolling.

Ah. Adding the percussion line was one thing, but delaying or doubling rolls is different. I hear other things going on than I would if I played it. I was hesitant to say anything about the percussion line, don't know if that belongs on the site if it's not in the sheet. But messing with the midi isn't important. The midi still sounds a lot different than a performance by origin and isn't necessary except to give a brief taste as to what the piece could sound like.

Technically, Clanker DID arrange this - the HG/SS version! It's supposed to be Virdian Forest, but was route 2 in GSC since... there was no forest.

Besides, they are different songs. We could theoretically have a version of each song for Gold/Silver and HeartGold/SoulSilver, because the HeartGold/SoulSilver has a far bigger ensemble of instruments playing more melodies, as opposed to Gold/Silver which only has two or three melodic lines.

So, in actuality, you could still submit this to the site.

yupp, that's always the FIRST thing I look at, how much detail they put into it. Which is why it breaks my heart when I have to write solos because I believe every part is crucial, so the fact that I have to take some out..breaks my HEART!!  :'(

Hi all.
When I applied to my high school, I had to audition with my main instrument; the tenor sax.
I decided I wanted to play the day & night versions of route 228 (in the same key signature tho), so I arranged myself a ten sax version of it, and composed a backing track. Since I haven't been arranging too much lately, I decided to add this (somewhat old) arrangement! It's not really a submission, but I want people to be able to see it - please don't get mad at me. :)

The performance went splendid! Though I didn't get to use the backing track - Hence I had to improvise an ending.
I went with "Day" at the first repeat, and "Night" at the second.

This is totally playable for all saxophones.

Sounds great!! I love how you combined day and night...although, i guess it already was in the first place lol.

But just a few things:
-Measure 8's day's notes should be different, rhythm wise (sorry not familiar with 12/8). This also counts for 37.

Otherwise, it's beautiful. Another great accomplishment.  ;)

Measure 8 & 37:
That's actually the way it's supposed to be :) it's tuplets. I'll admit I noted it in a bit of a dodgy way in measure 8, but it's right.
Also, if you'r not familiar with 12/8, I recommend you learn it - I love it! I think I'm more comfortable reading in 12/8 than 4/4 with swing :) This goes for 9/8 as well.

Nicee, although I think I would've added a lower part. Measure 17 should have a swing feel to it, as well as the other measure that has the same thing. But otherwise very good!

Very nice! Though it would be better if the minum chords at 17 and 19 were an octave higher. Also if you had the chords at 18 and 22 it would make the melody complete, it sounds a bit empty to me ATM. I understand why you didn't put them in, but if you put them in in a differnet layer, then the player can choose which layer to play.

Also, I like the invisible drum kit in the background! It's a nice touch. Great work.

So I was just playin' some Black, when I stumbled upon the "monthly ferris wheel events" - this happened during fall, so the person I had to ride the ferris wheel with, was Clerk Trisha. If you don't know about these events, then I can tell you, they're Nintendo's secret attempt of making a dating sim. The Clerk Trisha event is a bit creepy, and somewhat sad. I actually started crying (tho I start crying from anything). My character is a boy. These girls actually start hitting on you even if your character is a girl :P

Slow inspired me to make a piano arrangement of "Soshite, Itsumo no Fuukei (http://sos-dan.jino.ru/m/bgm/vol1_01_Itsumo_No_Fuukei.mp3)" from "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu" (known better as "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya").
This is the first song we hear on episode 1 - and it plays while Kyon's talking about Santa Claus 'n stuff.
It also plays later in the season, at the start of the episode where Kyon removes the word "self-proclaimed" from the Brigade members' titles. 
It disappears for season two, but is more or less replaced by "Meeting Time (http://sos-dan.jino.ru/m/bgm2/vol2_12_Meeting_Time.mp3)" (which I'm subconsciously working on). Though this song is only half as good as "Soshite, Itsumo no Fuukei", but if you take to account that "Soshite, Itsumo no Fuukei" is absolutely awesome, then being only half as good is very very good as well. :)

Other than the link in the title, there are several other versions: two AMAZING remixes were used in the movie, "The Disappearance", and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed an amazing version, as well:

So for the name:

I know enough Japanese to understand this much: "Itsumo" means "the usual" or "like always" - it's like saying "it happened like it always does" or "I'll take the usual".   

Then we have "Soshite", which from what I understand, is kinda like "as always" or "and, as always" (like "Itsumo" is, but "Itsumo" is more like "the usual" "the never changing everyday routine" while Soshite is more like "because of that -> therefore always" kinda. I suck at explaining.. 

"no" is kinda like the same as "of" - just that the word in front of "no" is the word that in English would be behind "of" - so it's flipped. 

By searching the web, I found out that "Fuukei" translates to "scenery". It may also be "that everyday routine". Kinda explaining the setting when walking to school or work like you do everyday, and will for a long time -> that scenery. 

So from this I've decided to call it "As Always, the Usual Scenery" in English.
"Soshite, Itsumo no Fuukei" would literally be "As Always, the Scenery of Usual" but that doesn't sound too smart, does it?

Huh? They are the same song, aren't they? It has just been mislabeled a lot on YouTube, I mean, I too just call it Itsumo no Fuukei, instead of Soshite, Itsumo no Fuukei..?
But you are right, when I think about it Soshite means "and then..."

No--the original has an ensemble of instruments such as trumpet and others (plays in the very first scene of episode 1) the "Soshite" version is just high piano (plays after the climax of episode 6)

I don't think I've listened to that one.. So I just assumed that the trumpet one was it.. I'll listen to it when i get home.
But this is just piano anyways, so it doesn't really matter tho..

Oh my god, I didn't even know that song existed (the Soshite version)..
I think I must have missed it, but no wonder really - I can't find it on YouTube, I found it here (http://sos-dan.jino.ru/m/bgm/vol3_06_Soshite,_Itsumo_No_Fuukei.mp3)..

But I just realized something - when I arranged my version, I put an Fmaj9 chord at the end. The reason I did this, was because I was 99% sure that the song ended that way, but when I listened to the YouTube clip, It didn't end like that. But the Soshite version does! So I subconsciously remembered that ending (from when I must have watched it on the show) instead of the usual one (probably because it is a very nice chord to end on) and therefore I was sure that it was the correct ending..
I decided to keep it in, because it sounded so good :3 But instead it was the ending to another version :P
haha, a bit scary how I remembered that, without remembering the song..

A good arrangement, could be more accurate, but it definitely is a great translation to piano.

Now I ask your help with something. I have a half finished arrangement of "Confessions of Haruhi," (can't remember Japanese name) the piano solo when she tells him about the baseball game.

Slow, I have a weakness in my arranging style. That weakness is impatience. Of course, my patience isn't "bad", but I have a limit.
I can usually tell when an arrangement is gonna use up my patience, and this song is one of those songs. Just look at yourself, it seems like you hit some kinda wall, and didn't wanna do it anymore.
The thing is, my counter-measure for impatience is, like everyone else, motivation, and my motivation is driven by the fact that the song I'm arranging is to a degree thrilling and cool --> please don't judge me, that's just how I am. I am a fan of the genre of jazz and funk, so that's what I think is cool; others are fans of other styles.

The thing about "Haruhi no Kokuhaku" ("Confessions of Haruhi") is that it is a very calm and slow song, focusing a certain amount on tension between substitute chords and all that fun..
It is like a different type of arranging. I honestly don't like that type of arranging. It's not that it's too complicated, it's just that I don't like it, and it doesn't necessary sound good in most cases. People like Bespinben are amazing at this type of arranging (I've noticed; you are pretty good at this type, yourself too), but I don't know how much help I would be, considering that I'm likely to loose motivation, and quit working on it.
I've tried five times, arranging "Aru Ame no Hi" ("That Rainy Day"), but I've just had to quit, and I know it's gonna be the same with this song, if I try to arrange it.

XD I appreciate the thought! I basically was a bit stuck figuring out the left hand and then other arrangements came along which were more interesting. I really like these types of songs, like my recent "Folsense" arrangement--that turned out well so I don't really doubt I could do this if I put my mind to it. I just thought since I was putting it on hiatus and you like Haruhi arrangements you might want a piece of the action! I'll finish it myself eventually.

Also yeah, "Aru Ame no Hi" (which I think is the Japanese title of "Someday in the Rain") seems very hard to arrange. Not going to attempt that one yet. XD

Because I'm trying to upload some of my arrangments onto youtube.

I'm using a Mac, so that might be something. There is a command under "file" called "export to audio file", which creates mp3's and such. But I think you need a better version of Finale than NotePad to do it anyway. I can't do it on Finale NotePad 2012, but since I'm mainly using FinalePrintMusic 2009 anyways it's not a problem for me.
If you're using NotePad, I don't think there's a way to do it :/

I would recommend using quarter note tempo instead of half note tempo.

Also, dat bass. I PDF'd the bass part and made an mp3 sans bass and will be learning it.

Actually I was first thinking about notating it double as fast (yu know, the start of the melody is quarters, but I wanted to notate eights) - so if I had done that the tempo mark would've been "quarter = 60", but that made it hard to make it swing, because Finale's sixteenth-swing absolutely sucks, so I doubled every note value, and just changed the quarter in the tempo marking to a half note, to save time iguess :P But I wouldn't say it is such a bad thing, I mean: if I wanted to notate double as fast, that means I counted on every other beat (according to my arrangement) which means notating in alla breve (and with the "half note"-tempo mark) really wasn't a bad idea - tho, I do realize I didn't really write it in alla breve, but that was only because swing doesn't work on the eights if I do that -> they work on the quarters, and that SUCKS

Awesome arrangement either way! Just one thing: Click on the "Page Layout Tool", then go to the "Page Layout" menu, then "Page Margins">"Edit Page Margins..." and you'll see that the right margin has set the value "0.05...". That's a very VERY little margin. Set the value of the right margin to "0.5" and the sheet will look a lot better! :)

But about the page layout-thing:
When arranging for A4 in landscape, Finale does some weird things: It kinda "moves" itself to the right.
So if you try to print out after doing the changes you suggested - the right margin gets A LOT bigger - take a look at the PDF, that is how the margin becomes when you make a PDF or print it out. And that is almost perfect, right? :)
So - I am not going to change that :P

I didn't say that I could play it, or said that it's easy to play, I just said that it's playable. It doesn't have anything impossible to perform. That's what I meant.  :P

Same happens with the other one. Technically, the chords of the right hand are perfectly playable, and the right hand too, just octaves. Not easy, but playable all in all.

-Couple formatting things, but well done on noting Junichi Masuda as sole composer. That is true. I figure that it'll be easier to show you the formatting problems as opposed to tell you so a file with all the changes I've noted here is at the bottom of this post.
-Time signature - Maybe write it as cut time? I mean, it's not wrong the way you've done it, but most music nowadays uses common and cut.
-Measures 11, 13, 15, and 17 - Double dots should not be used here. Use dotted halves tied to an eighth.
-Measures 11-16 - Olimar's gonna slam you for having a note in the second layer above one in the first. I do realize sometimes this has to be done, but Olimar's not gonna let that stay that way. :P

-I'm pretty sure the official name of the song is "Decisive Battle! Steven", excluding "Stone". And I also have an understanding that when writing the games in the sub-title, you're not supposed to write "versions" - I might be wrong, but I think I read a discussion where this was decided.
-time signature - cut time and 2/2 is exactly the same thing, so there is no reason to bother changing it. Besides, I think it is inelegant to use common and cut when there are time changes - here it goes to 3/4, and then back.
-dotting-is there a reason I can't double dot here? In my opinion double dotting should be used here.
-layer use?-Even if Olimar says so, that shouldn't have anything to say - it's probably how the notes are flipped you are referring to - and regardless of which layer you use, you could just flip them the right way. Besides, I haven't used the second layer at all at measures 11-16? You are probably reffering to 21-26, but the only place I have a second layer note above a first layer note is at measures 25-26. But I will use the speedy entry tool to make this look better, so thanks for making me aware of that.

In addition to that, I believe there is something wrong with the file you sent me. Because the drum beat is moved one measure back at certain places (which explains why you didn't have any at measure 44), and everything that is in the second layer is moved ten measures back? Perhaps something weird happened when you opened the file? If you think this is the case, try looking at the PDF to compare.
And the drums I'll probably have to remove anyways, though, if I want to submit this thing. :)

So I've been without my Mac for two weeks, meaning no arranging... or..?

Putting aside the fact that we have had a very brief and rough history, I would say that this arrangement and your skill at composing and arranging will be a formidable force when comes down to you producing music in the next level. If anyone remember the "Island Swing" arrangement I did for concert band a while ago - I kinda felt like it would fit well for big band as well, and I had to arrange something for the big band at school before school starts.
So I made a version for big band too, though this version is almost completely different! After "G" everything is different - actually, this version is more like the "Jungle Japes" theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee (or rather, from "G" it is that version), so that's what I called it :) I also borrowed some other Donkey Kong elements from SSBM.

Where did you learn music theory? Experience?

I've been attending Foss High School for a year now, which is a high school specializing in musical education - the requirements for this school is ridiculous, it's the hardest school to get into in all of Oslo.
So you probably understand that they're teaching some pretty heavy music theory stuff here. I've just started my second year, so finally it will start getting harder (the first year was pretty much just the basics (y'know, to include all the "singer-songwriter"s at the school.), but in the second year you kinda get to choose how hard the classes will be - this year I'm taking the hardest there is:3)

But before I started at Foss High, I came from a crappy slum of a school called Årvoll. There were no fundament for musical education back there, so in the three years after I began with music and up untill I got into Foss High, I more or less educated myself through studying others' arrangements, doing interval training, learning theory, practicing scales and automatics, jamming around, and of course arranging - I mean, that is the way to do it, right?
I believe my "improvement-curve" was pointing upwards pretty steeply, but that just skyrocketted after I came to Foss, started playing in their big band, started writing for different ensembles to actually be performed(!), started my own band(s), spending countless hours jamming around with others - I play everyday, and everyday I learn more and improve more! - both on the instrument AND with the theory.
The program at my school does make me take 15 hours a week MORE than normal students at other schools, but I am (and everyone else at Foss are) totally fine with it, because I can't imagine a more fun (and giving) high school life.
And my time at Foss is only 1/3 over^•^

So you could say I've made a head start for myself by educating myself(I did already know more than your avarage school band member), but it's gonna be thanks to my time at Foss if I turn out a great musician.

I should've mentioned that Foss has both the music program thing AND normal school like any other high school. So it's likely that the people you know FSM only went to the normal school thing (as there are five of those classes, and only two music classes, per year). The normal studies are nothing special really (I don't see why people would want to take that at Foss of all places).

I do it for others, but in the end it's all for myself.
I want to learn more music. Music is my hobby - I am a saxophonist, but it's the arranging I love doing. So I arrange all the time pretty much, so that I can improve on pretty much every level I'm interested to learn about - composition, arranging, improvisation, and musical understanding.

As you may have seen, I barely arrange for the site anymore.
That's because I quite truthfully don't really get anything from it. Don't get me wrong, this isn't me "complaining", I mean I don't get anything out of it musically. I could of course continue arranging video game songs into simple piano sheets forever, but then I wouldn't really improve too much, and I would most certainly not reach my goals in composition and arranging.
But it is because of NSM that I was introduced to arranging, and it's also what has made me into the dedicated musician and arranger I am today, which is something I should be grateful to everyone on the site for.
I arrange all the time. Now it is mostly for my school's big band, which is the kind of arranging I really wanna be doing in the end.
I also do other arrangements, like the Jingle Bells one for that weird horn-trio-ensemble, and I also compose my own music all the time.
I need to expand my view on music and get even more experience to shoot for my goal - to be a composer, preferably big band (not necessarily as a profession, but definitely as a hobby).
I've spent much of my time recently "studying" big band compositions, which is incredibly fun and educational.

Yeah, I agree with that completely! I'm a bit more selfish and actually arrange just for myself. I post them because there might be someone out there looking for it, but I don't really care. I'm heartless, aren't I? XD

It's a great way to further your skills, though. I'm like you and want to become a composer for a jazz band or just make some seriously cool charts later on down the track. And I agree with what you also said; NSM is a fabulous place for people to start learning, but in order to get better and better, University training is required. I'll always love this site, though! :D

You know that annoying thing jazz standards do where they deliberately place chords on wrong roots only to show of some potential 2-5-1, right? Well, I tried a bunch that for once. It was kinda fun to do, but it's still a stupid concept of thinking. It prevents people from understanding harmony, in my opinion...

My only comments would be to work in some more transitions (less stopping and starting) and slightly rewrite the section from 546-552 for eupho 1. I would suggest having them play something on the downbeats as well, even if it's just in octaves with eupho 2, just to make it a bit easier to play. I bring this up because I did something similar to this recently (also in a supporting, non-melody voice), and it ended up being more trouble than it seemed to be worth.

The ensemble I actually wrote it for (1 alto horn, 2 euphonium) tried it out for the first time yesterday. I just so happened to have class in the classroom that uses the same venting system as the room they used (which should be noted is on the other side of the school), so ofc I ended up listen to them while following them on the score. Man, they are just soooo good, they nailed the entire thing on the first try, which I don't need to tell you; is totally insane (yes, even the battle themes). They'll be performing the first, the second and the third movement on friday, and the entire thing apart from movement 7 in about a month.

I was bored today.

I am dangerously close to being kicked off the first page here, so I just whipped up something.
Okay, the truth is we're having some project at school that I didn't know about until the day before recording, and therefore I had to pull an allnighter to make this so my group wouldn't fail, though another guy in my group beat me to it by 5 minutes, so we're using his instead of mine... So here is mine! I think it turned out pretty great, for about six hours of work. There are areas that definitely could be fixed though.

Here's an original composition for sinfonietta. My school and the Oslo Philharmonic does this collaboration project each year, where music students get the option of writing music for them to play at a concert. This piece is my "first idea" kinda, which is gonna be tested out at the sinfonietta reading that is gonna be held sometime next month. Funfunfun :)

Today was that time of the year again - midterm exams in music specialization - THE BEST EXAM EVER!
It's a five hour test in composition or arranging, and this time around I chose to write a composition for full symphony orchestra with a theme based on sixths. Somehow I let myself inspire by some of the calm nice melodies and arrangement-techniques from the Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games (ofc because I've been playing the remakes so much these last couple of days). Well, I have only once actively tried to get a sheet up on site (I know there are a little bunch more of my sheets onsite, but those weren't put up by me), and I experienced a lot of trouble and delay back then, which basically made me give up on the entire system (sorry NSM). I know it's much better and improved right now, but once I fell out of that groove nothing's made me want to go back to doing it. I haven't arranged for the site for a long time. The sheets I have here are all very faulty atm, so getting them onsite will take a lot of effort too.

I must say I enjoyed your first movement for your Bassoon Concerto, though given its light nature and overall brevity, I'd sooner call this a Concertino rather than a Concerto. Are you working to finish this work?

Yes it's not yet finised, but I don't know when I'll have the time to work on it again.

I actually made this a couple of months ago, but I've been away from my mac, and I found it troublesome to dropbox it before now. I've been composing buttlodes these months, so there might come more stuff:)

Today was that day again - composition midterms! 5-hour test on composing. The assignement was to use the tones A, D# and E, either making a theme of them, or just having them appear all over. No limitations to instruments and style. I chose to do a D#-phrygian (D# and E) kinda thing with the tritone A as an important tone as well, and I wrote for double reed-quintet (2 oboes, english horn, 2 bassoons). The composition's most notable feature is the 3/4+5/8 time signature. It is actually inspired by the dream I had last night, where I was casually flying in the sky before getting eaten by a flying killer whale, only to find a village inhabited by mermaids inside it. Here it is:
