Summer is right around the corner, and I had an idea for the community here.
We get as many people we can muster to join together to perform a piece that will be a testament to both the website as well as the fantastic talent that comes through these doors. I'm not talking about us all learning one piece to play in unison, nor am I talking about some sort of medley that this site already organizes; I'm talking about a piece, a single arrangement or medley, in which we have 10, 15, 20 pianists each playing a part unique to them! And why stop there? We could even extend this to our other instrumentalists, make this one fantastic event in which we can all participate.
Granted, we'd need someone to arrange all of this, figure out some rehearsal times, and find a way to put this all of this, but I think we could get this done before school starts back up in August. I am aware that some of us will be in school during this period, including myself; but what's the point of music if not to try something ambitious.
So, what do you say? Ideas, comments, concerns, criticisms?

Season 1 Theme Song
oh dang, this sounds awesome! I really like the idea. I'm barely a year-old pianist, but... I could play something!! I'm in! I wanna do this!
We can work it out to suit our pianists best to each of their calibre.
Something like this?
This sounds like it would need some video editing skill to get together correctly. But it could be quite awesome.
Yes, but huge. I can talk about this with a friend of mine who's good with video editing.
Good idea. I could be able to participate.
Now introducing --- the NSM Symphonic Ensemble!
I could provide multitrack male choral voices. I have a 2 & 1/2 octave range, so I can cover all the parts from C2 to A5.
That's a humongous range. Do you have a Youtube channel?
Hmm. I'd like to do something like this.
Something like this medley? It only has two pianos though...
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69599107/The%20Journey%20Goes%20On.zip
I'm good with muscle memory in regards to the piano, and I just got back from a chorus concert (my solo was pretty good.)
If we can avtually gather an orchestra, that would be awesome, and a choir to boot. But it seems we have 3 vocalists (all men, including myself). If we could get another...3-4 men who can hold their own, we could try to work for a men's chorus thing. But for now, I just want to see who'd like to take part in this, both pianists and instrumentalists.
You have my bass.
This is kewl
I'm thinking we should have a small group of our stronger players (6-8,9 years playing) to at least make up the central core of this ensemble, with them handling the peculiar bits like tempo changes and they'd actually play throughout. The rest will be given parts based on their skill level, with any other instrumentalists being used where they will fit best.
I'll be happy to join in, if you need a trombone ;)
I'll be happy to join in, if you need a Bass trombone ;)

I've been playing piano for 6 years, violin for 11, i sing, i play the euphonium, i play the organ a little bit...
I think i can help.
I sing. I have a little over a 2 octave range.
Also if you need guitar(5 years), percussion(8 years), or someone to play a retardedly easy piano part, I'm your man.
Hurray! Sounds likes epic fun! :D My piano and trumpet are at your service ;)
I've been playing piano for almost 8 years...I'd love to do something like this!
I've been playing piano for roughly eight years! That's my only thing, but I'm pretty awesomeish at it!
This looks fun, but sadly, I can't use the vibes or marimba once school ends in a month, so I can't play, I could do the video editing if you'd like.
Good, very good. I'm glad to see you'd like to do this. Very well then, I say we have enough musicians, mainly pianists, to start taking this simple notion foward.
First start, what would the music selection be? I'd personally prefer something of a "VG Greatest Hits" type medley that strings together some of VG music's more popular and well known pieces. Mainly the standards like the SMB Overworld, LoZ Overworld, Tetris, and the like, along with some other popular music but not quite as performed.
Do you have room for one more pianist?
If not, what about an amateur horn player? :3
Quote from: MaestroUGC on May 05, 2012, 08:19:44 PMMainly the standards like the SMB Overworld, LoZ Overworld, Tetris, and the like, along with some other popular music but not quite as performed.
so a version of this then?
I think we should vote on a game :0
Yeah, we should vote and see what song/game/whatever comes up as most popular... then, we'll work it out from there.
I would like as many pianists as we can muster, in fact, for all of you multi-instrumentalists why don't you do both piano and your primary? Or all of them if you are feeling frosty?
Quote from: the_last_sheikah on May 05, 2012, 08:59:58 PMso a version of this then?
Sort of, but bigger. Much bigger. So, so much bigger.
herp derp I'm gonna feel so awkward playing some pathetically easy piano part XD
About years of playing and piano level, I've been playing for a little over 8 years.
Recent repertoire: This Beethoven song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55JZxFwk5hI) and that one Rachmaninoff song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-qwJoFQ3qo).
Recordings of random people playing these songs.
Put up a poll, pick any of the franchises you'd like to see done. After a while, which ever shows more of a desire to be performed will be done.
Also, make a post stating if you wish to participate and state the instrument(s) you plan to play in bold.
If piano, please state the most recent piece you performed so I can get an idea of your skill level. And I mean performed for an audience of some kind, be it a recital, close friends and family, or even YouTube; if you have a video it will be much appreciated. If another instrument, same thing, but I'd prefer a symphonic selection if possible.
Fleet wishes to join with the
piano.
The latest piece?... Well, here.
Uh, I haven't really performed in front of anyone yet... is that going to be a problem?
I shall be joining with the piano.
The most recent piece performed was "O Say Can Yoshi" by Karl Harmdierks.
http://bladiator.vgpiano.com/other/o_say_can_yoshi.pdf
That was performed about four months ago.
I will have a video of my next recital in a few weeks.
That was well played, Fleet.
In with piano
Same skill level as Jub. I played that Rachmaninoff piece a while back.
Uhm let's see, I'm at a point where I can play simple pieces like Moonlight Sonata and Rondo flawlessly just by sight-reading the first time... I don't know how well I'd do with some of the site's arrangements though.
in with piano/..?
We should do Actraiser.
LoZ and Pokemon are neck and neck...
In with Piano, Violin, and possibly Organ, Euphonium, and Voice if needed.
This sounds awesome...FLUTE (5 years and counting)
In with piano, regardless.
Sorry guys can't participate.
IN with Guitar(5 years), percssion(8 years), or vocals(range of G2-F4)
SFK, what can you play on the guitar?
For those of you who said vocals, please give me the part you normally sing, or at least a rough range.
I sing bass 2 in my high school choir.
Umm...range...
it's pretty small compared to sum pplz, but like
Highest: D just above middle C (can't remember numbers)
Lowest: C 2 octaves below that.
Piano, most recent piece performed was this (several months ago): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQLUI5KKjpk
No, that isn't me.
This sounds like a lot of work.... woah^^. If you need one more, count me in^^.,
Maestro, if we do this, when we decide on a franchise, we have to do a medley. All of these franchises are old enough and the music is so broad in scope that it should all be brought together. A simple Mario one might be:
Overworld (SMB)
Peach's Castle (SM64)
Castle (NSMBW)
Final Bowser (NSMBW)
Staff Roll (SM64)
How long would this be? 5 minutes? 15? 20?
Depending on both the amount of people to take part and the franchise choice will affect the length; meaning the more popular and the more expansive the collective soundtrack of the franchise whill result in a greater length.
Is this gonna go on the ninsheetmus channel?
Well it is our community that's going to be performing, who's in charge of it now? Concerto, right?
Yes I think so
It looks like Pokemon is going to come out on top, I'll give the poll another week or two to allow for more people to sign up. We have nine pianists and six other instruments at the moment, let's shoot for at least 15 pianists before we get this going.

Out of curiosity-Thinking realistically, what the fuck would you need 15 pianists for? :J

One to play piano, the others to try and screw in a lightbulb or somethingPianorchestra.
Why not? Short of a piano competition, I doubt any of us will get an opportunity to perform in something of this magnitude, regardless on wether or not we all choose to pursue music professionally. I figure, what with the magic of the internet and all that jazz, why not? Besides, I'm nothing if not ambitious. I see a community full of great and promising talents here, I'd be a fool to not try something like this.
Besides, if Pokemon does end up being what we play, then I have a good idea of how to bring it all together.
Let me ask it like this: Why 15 pianos? Is there really going to be enough literature for 15 pianos at the same time? Or are we all going to play like 20 measures total? It just seems like there would be too much part doubling, especially for a video game tune. Most pokemon songs don'y have more than four different lines.
Also this seems like it would be hell for any video editor.
Relax, I'm going to arrange this in a manner that allows for minimal part doubling. There is much more in a single bar a music than just the four part harmony after all. Besides, I'm not going to have everyone playing together all of the time, it'd be too loud an too noisy, but I'm not going to reduce it to where we all just simply take turns.
As far as the video editor is concerned, I plan on working closely with who ever it will be so as to give them a clear direction and assist in putting it all together.
I could help with the arranging. I'm far less experienced than any of you but I think I could help.
In with Piano (10 years).
Most recent pieces I preformed are the Turkish March and Keep On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzkM0oSA-f8)

I'm curious, what piece would you say is the most technically difficult for you?
technically, it's the Turkish March.
However, when playing the two pieces, it's more difficult to play Keep On perfect because my left hand will become very tired.

We could all get assigned different songs so that way you wouldn't have to fit a bunch of parts into one video.
Then it'd be a medley of individuals, which would defeat the purpose. We already have something like that on NSM.
Let's go Pokemon!
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi924.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad88%2Fpgkermit%2Fpiano.jpg&hash=2cd047a2605d977fa55fae95b67dac9288903254)
Now you're thinking with portals.
A collab on a single song/merely is most definitely the way to go. Very obviously.
W
Oh and in response to your question about what I can play on guitar, can't think of any uber hard one so I'll just start naming stuff off
Chapter 4 by Avenged sevenfold
Beer-Reel Big Fish
Gerudo Valley, both parts plus a whole bunch of other Zelda songs
A ton of Dark Cloud 2 songs
Super Mario overworked theme
Black Dog- Led Zepplin
Closer to the Sun - slightly stoopid
thar.
Thanks, I'll try to see how I can fit it in, I'm not used to working with the guitar.

I meant that a small group of us could do the intro and then another group could play the overworld (or something similar to that) etc etc etc.
That's still the same thing, but in groups.
Ok.
Count me in if it's not too late!
By the way I can play anything relatively slow on harmonica and guitar (not simultaneously though) as well as piano.
No, the guitar does not need to be too simple, just not too fast with the changes.
Sorry for the late reply. I am in with piano. Lookin forward to it!
In with Voice (Range: C2 - A5, [normally sing Tenor])
Quote from: TheZeldaPianist275 on May 14, 2012, 11:30:42 AMSorry for the late reply. I am in with piano. Lookin forward to it!
And the most recent piece I played was Sonata in C Minor by G. B. Pescetti. I can play more difficult pieces though.
rarr you spelled my name wrong
I'm in on trombone. Been doing it since 5th grade. (I'm finishing 10th). I can also play euphonium, and I'm okay-ish with the piano, but I would rather stick to brass first.
Okay, we have 12 pianists, a potential organist, 4 voices (TTBB), a flautist, an Harmonica, a Trombonist, a Euphonist, a percussionist, 2 guitarists, and a violoists, totaling 16 people. I'm about to make the final call, so if I've missed you just make another post in bold with the instrument(s) you will be playing and the last piece you performed with siad instruments. It also looks as if Pokemon won the poll. I'm going to close the poll on monday, the 21st, so if you still want to vote, or change it, or sign up, you have until then.
Thank you for this fantastic turnout, once I get a final head count we can start with the pre-production for this massive project.
Electric Bass
Orpheus in the Underworld.
Piano.
Never had formal training, but I could do something. (just been learning by myself for five years) Just give me the easy parts and i'll be a happy Cubone (however happy a Cubone can be.)
I also have a special idea for everyone involved beyond this medley, but it's a secret. I'll tell everyone participating when we get this going.
I think i might drop Euphonium.
Ok, what's the feasability of the organ?
When will this "get going" anyways?
Cut off date is monday, upon which time we will figure out which pieces will be done. Start thinking of what you want heard, I'm thinking somewhere between 10-15 pieces from the Pokemon Series should allow for everyone to show their stuff.
I hope it's pokemon.. simple, yet sweet.
Unless another four or five people vote against it, Pokemon will most likely win.
I had a feeling Pokemon would win, anyway.
If I may throw out a suggestion, I think there should be a section that strings these songs together:
Heartgold/SoulSilver - Pokemart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xuy2gPbBTk)
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - Rustboro City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3auFhxfsmI)
Heartgold/SoulSilver - Saffron City/Pewter City/Viridian City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msxct8ee1G8)
There's plenty of room for a solo section or two.
I think we have sufficient material to pull it off.
Dang, I hope I can pull off a little solo for Rustboro D: I love that song.
I'm right now arranging Rustboro city; i've been working on it for the last two days. :)
If we still need a euphonium I can replace K-night. Also, I think Deku said he was in, but he didn't use bold.
bold= irrelevant
Definitely want to do a pokemart theme! B/W Shopping Mall Nine is the best though

Shouldn't that be "not bold = irrelevant"? Sorry, I'm a language Nazi sometimes. I sent texts in complete sentences.
We should make this an annual thing if it works out, as an end of school celebration.
That could be cool, but, after noticing the ages of most of us, a lot of us will be going off to college within a year or two of each other. That might hinder an annual event. Oh well, let's just think about this year for now.

all most of us send texts in complete sentences too. but thanks for the spell-check.
strange, this is the second misspelling today... I never get a misspelling...
I thought I checked thoroughly. . . I'm so ashamed. By the way, I have 20/13 vision in both eyes; I can even see your thoughts. That tiny text didn't do anything for you.
Successful use of a semicolon. Beat that.
"Off-topic" & "this isn't a contest."
I know, but I had to.
We should probably make sure everybody has a metronome before they try this. If your recording is off beat by much at all it could be disastrous for that person's part. Just putting it out there.

I believe I said I was interested in a Bass Trombone spot...
*whispers*Pssssst. Use bold text, Olimar. We've been over this.
But I did! Sorta...
Oh wow, this is awesome.
I know there's tons of people signed up already, but I'd love to join in if you need a bass clarinet. I have eight years of experience, and have played in my province's youth wind ensemble as well as my university's symphonic band. I could do piano too (14 years experience xD Since I was five), but I think there's enough pianists already. :P I also own a Bb clarinet, but it's really cheap, so it's next to impossible to get a good sound out of.
This thing is all about the pianists, the other instruments are a bonus.
In with the Piano. Most recent pieces (Recordings will be added to this post later when I receive them from my piano teacher.):
L. v. Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.9 (op. 14 No. 1) in E Major
3rd movement, Rondo - Allegro commodo
Rachmaninoff: Prelude in C# Minor
Also known as Bells of Moscow.
I sorta messed up on one section of the song and I was surprised that the guy at the recording studio didn't have me redo it. :/
Oh, and the Vocals as a Tenor.
IT'S MONDAY IT'S MONDAY IT'S MONDAY!!!
So we are doing...Pokemon!
The final tallies are: 15 Pianists, 1 Flute, 1 Bass Clarinet, 1 Percussionist, 3 Trombones (1 Bass), Euphonium, 2 Guitarists, 1 E. Bassist, 1 Violin, 1 Organ, and 5 Vocalists.
I think this time we won't be using any vocals, so unless you can convince me otherwise, I'm going to dismiss all vocalists.
We reached 15 Pianists! I knew we could do it. Now we need music. We need at least ten pieces from the Pokemon series. You have free reign. I'm going to take the most popular suggestions and figure out a way to bring them together into one cohesive piece.
Please list the pieces you want in bold, with the Game Title and Song Title, with a YouTube link if you can. You have 1 week to make suggestions, until Monday, June 4th. Even if someone suggested it already add it to your post if you want it in here. Unless I see a piece multiple times, I might not put it in.
If you still want to participate, you can, but once the set list is finalized (shortly after the 4th) there will be no more entries. If you have signed up to participate, please send me a PM of your summer schedule (Now until the end of August); major conflict dates, typical availability, even potential conflicts. From there I can start to piece together a rehearsal schedule for all of us.
Thank you for your enthusiam.

On another note (aaaaaaahhh! icwut
ididthar on accident):
How long should this go on? How long will we have to practice, assuming the arrangement doesn't take more that a month?
*enthusiasm!*
You shouldn't misspell Trombone. Bad things happen when you misspell Trombone.
Crap, I forgot to capitalize it. Please don't kill me!!
Well, ideally I want 3 or 4 rehearsals before people start sending in their videos. The arrangement should be ready by the end of June, hopefully before that if I'm really motivated. July will be when I will start rehearsals with people and the entire ensemble. Once I feel that we all know what we are doing, then I will tell you to start recording. If possible, I'd like for us to record all at once, and treat is as an online performance.
Sounds good. I'll get a calendar of some sorts ready for when I'm free.
So you're arranging this Maestro?
Yes I am.
Mm... I'll have to pick an easy piece. If so, I might as well choose this:
Lavender Town, Pokemon R/B/Y - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNJJ-QkZ8cM
You do realize that I'm going to arrange each part to best fit each player. And just because you suggest an easy piece doesn't mean that will be the only thing you do. The Intro piece will feature every pianist, and the Finale will feature everybody participating.
Oh yeah, please give me your Location and Time Zone in your PM, I don't want to schedule a rehearsal at 2am for some of you.

I think NSM Community Orchestra will work better, seeing as how we don't have enough people to even call ourselves a chamber group.
Let's try this:
The NSM Community Orchestra presents:
[Title of the Arrangement/Concert Title]
Performed by the NSM Piano Ensemble and Members of the NSMCO
Venue: Something Pokemon Related.
We can use this format each time we do this, and it allows for us to grow into and actual symphonic group. In fact, we could actually piece together a sort of cyber-concert with this as the main performance. We could break down into smaller groups and play pieces that won't be featured in the main medley, and maybe a few one-offs (pieces not from pokemon, but something to bring in a little variety), nothing from any other expansive franchises (Mario, Zelda, etc.)
Just an idea, there's enough material to put together a 2 hour concert, making this a glorified piano recital.
I'm in PST.
Also the Dialga/Palkia Battle music from D/P/Pt would be great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mv8AxBTlJ0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mv8AxBTlJ0)
We could do something like what this guy did (it's an orchestral medley of various RBY songs):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtF42SY2lE8&list=LLwZ6uWSeMe3eW44h2DpRlfA&feature=mh_lolz
Best part is the guy gave a link to the sheets.
It would also be cool if we organized groups of people for each song. That would lighten the load on those who couldn't learn all the music as fast. And we could start with everyone at the beginning doing the main theme from red/blue/yellow.
Hopefully when Maestro takes into account everyone's skill level, we'll all be able to learn our pieces by the same time. At least, that'd be ideal!
Also Maestro I think you can take the poll down. And thanks for making this arrangement! We all appreciate it.
I feel like I'm one day late after reading through all these 10 pages ._. (exc. some grammarnazi's)
It's 'cause of stuff like this I'm on a site like this ;D
IF by any means you need another one, I'm here for you guys.
Piano, flute (I haven't had a good lung-capacity lately though), not-incredibly-hard guitar, metallophone 1½ octave (starting from C, ends with G).
I've only done one uploaded cover with multiple instruments for a simple song, but here it is anyhow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI-TBH4IYnU (I can't get that quality on the flute live though)
Oh wait, had this one for the Metallophone (too many mistakes though, just learned the song >.<) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPgmlRSPaoI
For other "not-really-perfect-since-I-am-worse-at-playing-while-recording-if-it-is-not-for-someone-else-that-is"-pianovideos, just check related stuff
Like I said before, like six times, I'm taking into account everyone's skill level while arranging this. Rehearsal will most likely come to putting everyone in groups, with one of the stronger pianists leading them in how to perform with the group. Most of this piece will center around the stronger players, with everybody else coming in around them with whatevery part I feel they can perform the best. That doesn't mean that the same five or six people will be playing the melody the entire time, they will be the anchor of all of this.
If you guys want to split into smaller groups to work on your own, that would be fantastic. If you want to pair up for duets or what have you and play other pieces for this event, more power to you.
fabbemannen, I'm going to add you as a pianist and metallophone player, I could use the timbre of that instrument to great effect if given the chance.
Oh, bother... D: I thought this whole project was like the YouTube video on the first page: each person sends in a part and with editing we combine it all. I'm afraid I can't do it, since I'm only 12 and... Yeah XD
Are you sure? If you don't want to do it that's fine, but could I at least get a reason other than "I'm 12"? Money, time, equipment?
If ability is a problem, don't worry I will accommodate everybody.
It isn't a matter of ability or any of that stuff, just my protective parents: I'm a child meeting with a bunch of strangers(no offense XD).
I dont think they'll let me do it; I can try to persuade them, but it probably won't work...
Use a webcam without telling them? Or say that you know us irl or something along those lines. Parents are pretty easy to fool when it comes to technology related things.
I would not reccommend going against your parents. If they say yes, fanstastic; if they say no, don't sweat it. If they say no, you can show them the end product and keep it in mind for next time.
Also, keep these suggestions coming. I'm looking for about 15-20 minutes worth of material for this project.
Yah don't go against your parents' wishes. You could probably convince them and/or we could change your part. Maestro would it be possible for Fleet to film his own part separately after the full thing is completed? We could just patch it in then and he wouldn't be interacting with strangers (SFK is pretty scary after all ::)), only submitting his own video.

That I am, sir. That I am.
That could work, though I'd like for him to have a little direction before he records.

As much as I would like to suggest various "niche" favorite songs of mine from across the Pokémon series, I think we should ground the medley with a heavy basis in 1st gen music (Red, Blue, Yellow versions), as these would be most iconic. If anything, I think the songs that have appeared in every main series games should be included (the Title Theme, the Pokecenter, and the Gym Theme).
All well and good, but I need options regardless.
I don't have a webcam, or money to buy one.
Shoot.
I guess we need to work around this don't we.
^One of your friends probably has one he isn't going to use for a couple of days.

You should incorporate the Season 1 theme into the piece. And have a vocal quartet singing the first verse and chorus. Would be beautiful.

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, according to the gender icon, Fleet is a girl.
If this were a live conversation, this would be that awkward silence where everybody stares at each other.
If this were a live conversation, the mistake wouldn't have been made in the first place.
That isn't completely true. We could have been blindfolded, or *makes other, irrelevant, and improbable suggestion*.
Anyway. . .
I just got a skype account for the rehearsals so gimme yur guises names so i can add y'all
I am here to confirm that Fleet is, in fact, a girl. I am also here to report that my parents, surprisingly, are letting me do this... If I can have the exact meeting place for the project.
I'm sorry this is causing so much bother XC
The meeting place will most likely be Skype, but we'll wait to see what is go for everyone.

Quote from: MaestroUGC on May 25, 2012, 05:13:52 PMWe finally have another violin, how much experience do you have? What's the most difficult piece you've performed?
I've only been playing for three years, but I'm considered pretty advanced compared to my classmates.
Hmm, my most difficult piece... the only one I can name right away off the top of my head is the red solo part from Bach's Double Violin Concerto in D Minor, First Movement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0daRRpLRJ4).
EDIT: If it seems any harder than that Bach song, then my hardest song would be this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx9sUVwoZ7I).
I just realized I forgot to list my years of experience...i'm sorry :0
Violin: 11 years this next month!
Piano: 6-8 years? I lost track.
Organ: 3 years
I forgot to say experience for euphonium. I've been playing for less than a year, but it was really more like transferring what I knew from trombone to a similar instrument. I would say that, if measuring ability, I would subtract one year (or less) from my trombone ability.
Also, I'm reluctant to list the most difficult song I have played because I don't play the most difficult songs I could. Not all of my band is. . . equal in skill to a few of us, so we play easy things by my standards. I also don't do very many solos, so that's hard too. In my honor band I was the first trombone, and we played Khan, and Red Rocks Fanfare. Don't have a recording though.
Piano - 6 years.
Bass Trombone- 9 years.
Piano? I wanna say about six years now....
12 hours left to make suggestions and sign up! Tomorrow I will send out a mass PM to everyone participating to verify involvement and get schedules. If anyone wants to sign up after today, I'm sorry, but once I start working on this I'm not going to be making amendments. I may make special exceptions for music, but I doubt it.

I play classical guitar for 7 years and piano for 8 years.
And for all which do not know what I mean with classical guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMcsIrYHyEk (I'm learning this piece now.)
Thank you all for your contributions and for very much showing an interest in this. Performers, be expecting a message in your inbox sometime tomorrow. A finalized set list will be posted soon.
Just noticed you edited your post Maestro. While you're at it, there a few things that need fixing:
1.) The link provided for the "Final Battle" for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: R/B is incorrect, as it links to someone's remix. Instead, replace the link with this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq4fCcwTrWs.
2.) I have already arranged a piano duet sheet of the "Primal Dialga Battle" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: T/D/S.
Darn someone noticed. The remix sounded so cool ;D
Quote from: spitllama on June 08, 2012, 12:25:31 PMDarn someone noticed. The remix sounded so cool ;D
I actually had noticed the moment you posted the link, but didn't bother telling Maestro until now.
But yes, it's a VERY nice remix.
Ok, here's the first draft set list, the order is not finalized:
Anime Theme - V
R/B/Y
-Opening
-PokeCenter
-Lavender Town
-Pokemon Gym
-Viridian Forest
-S.S. Anne
-Wild Pokemon Battle
-Elite Four
G/S/C
-National Park
-Bycicle Theme
D/P/Pt
-Canalave City
-Mt. Coronet Peak
-PokeMart
-Hearthome City
B/W
-Battle World Champion - V
-Opelucid City
Battle Revolution
-Mysterial's Theme
The "V" indicates the use of vocalists. Please note, by thursday I will have this list trimmed down to around 20-25 minutes of solid music. If a piece you wanted is not on here, I'm sorry. I went through every single suggested piece to find those that would lend themselves best to this ensemble.
The Performers List is final. If you are still on the list and have dropped, let me know. If you have been dropped and I accidentally removed you, or if your situation has changed since you last told me, again let me know.
Thank you for your patience, the construction of the medley itself should be finished within two weeks, maybe a bit longer, given that I have to work and such. If I'm not done with it by week three, and I have not updated this thread, feel free to spam me with messages telling me to hurry up because I'm most likely procrastinating.
That's a solid looking list. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Depending on how this week unfolds, I might just only drop 2 or 3 from that list.
That is an excellent list. Much approval.
If you had to cut out 2 pieces, I would say...
1.) Mysterial's Theme
2.) Opelucid City
I am little confused though as to why you put both RBY Pokemon Gym and Elite Four. Some people use the titles interchangeably to refer to the same song. By Elite Four, are you maybe meaning the Gym Leader Battle theme?
Call out both my favorites why dontcha -.-

I agree. These two seem less important. As long as we have a battle theme, a few routes, pokecenter and mart, and a city or two, I think we're in good shape.

Good, because those were the ones I was thinking of cutting. Also, yes, I meant the latter, I'll adjust the title once I begin to work on this.

Maybe I can rephrase this: I will give my liver to have Mysterial's Theme in the score :P If anything I'd suggest taking out some songs from R/B/Y. This is a general "pokemon" project, and R/B/Y is overbearing compared to the rest, as nostalgic as it may be.
The only songs I would think to consider cutting from RBY *shudders* would be either S.S. Anne or Viridian Forest. Problem is Viridian Forest is plain awesome and creepy, and S.S. Anne translates really well to a large ensemble.
This is the final set list:
1. Opening Theme - R/B/Y
2. Pokecenter - R/B/Y
3. Hearthome City - D/P/Pt
4. S.S. Anne - R/B/Y
5. Lavander Town - R/B/Y
6. Wild Pokemon Battle - R/B/Y
7. Anime Theme Song
8. Bycicle Theme - G/S/C
9. Mt. Coronet Peak - D/P/Pt
10. Battle World Champion - B/W
11. Viridian Forest - R/B/Y
12. National Park - G/SC
13. Canalave City - D/P/Pt
14. Pokemon Gym - R/B/Y
15. Elite Four/Gym Leader - R/B/Y
Most of the transitions will be based on R/B/Y themes, either as reprises or motivic glue.
I have also enlisted the help of a cellist and a pianist for this project, the former is a very good friend of mine, the latter is an old forum member.
Sounds awesome to me. :D
Perfect.
Cool. But you forgot UN Owen Was Her?
That's not part of the medley.
Oh.
Here's the plan:
I'm going to start building the medley on Monday, in order to make this work, once it's finished each player will recieve their part along with a second piano part that marks their cues (essentially the main melody and base line), each part will indicate the instrument/number and the player's name. I will be using your forum names for the score.
Estimated completion date: July 2nd, 2012
I is pumped. :D
Can't wait!
This is gonna be awesome. :D
Ooh this is exciting! :) Looks great!
*Bicycle, though
I have a suggestion...uhm why not include Littleroot Town at the beginning before or after the Pokemon Center (which is NOT "Pokecenter" btw)? We're lacking in RSE songs...
Sweet. Um, shouldn't we put this whole operation under the "NSM Community Performance Project"? It would be a lot easier to find.
Probably, but I can't move it, maybe someone who has those magical powers?
Is it too late for me to get involved in this? I certainly hope not. I could learn my part very quickly. I'd be on baritone sax, but I'm not sure if that'd suit the current instrumentation. (Hopefully not piano, since we already have so many.) I think it would be also helpful to newcomers to this project, like me, if a short summary of the schedule/what we as musicians need to do were to be posted on the front page of the thread so we don't have to go scrounging. :D
You are about two weeks too late, I've already begun to work on this and I really can't squeeze anybody in. However, I can still add in another piano part if you are willing. We haven't nailed down any specific schedule since most of us don't really know where we'll be or what we'll be doing by July.
By the way, this thing is really for the pianists anyway, the other instruments came about as a bonus. You can already see what we will be playing, so you can have a good idea how this will work out.

No need to add the extra piano, that's fine. I'm not even sure if I would have had enough time during the summer :-D
Man, I would like to join... :-\
I'm a wizard with acoustic guitar and piano.
You should've gotten here a few weeks ago.
I know I joined NSM few days ago, well NEXT YEAR'S MY YEAR!
This is sort of the trial run year, after this is all said and done, we can start planning out our next escapade.
So do we rehearse simultaneously? Or is it just a recording thing like the piano project?
I'd like a rehearsal, at least one, but that may not be possible. At the very least, I'm going to have a session with everyone to give them some direction, but it shouldn't be too bad.
How much longer till the parts are passed out?
That's a tricky answer...long story short a few weeks at most. I'm working on it as fast as a can, but real life stuff keeps getting in the way.
I'll watch this. Considering I haven't played piano as long as most of the people signed up here, I don't think I could handle it. But it is a very cool idea!

I'd like to change my vote from "Exciting" to "Very Exciting".
Bad news:
This has been a hectic few weeks here for me, long story short I have no time to work on this.
Short story long: I've had a few things brewing for me since the beginning of summer, and now they are taking off. Firstly, my trio is now starting rehearsals and I'm putting together VG Music for us, amongst some classical standards and some orginal comps.
Another thing is a game my friends and I are making during the summer. Things have picked up now that both programmers have been working on this undistracted. I've been tasked with writing the music for this game, and since it's an RPG it's proven to be quite tasking. As such nearly all of my musical efforts have gone into that project. Since the goal is to be done with it all before school starts in August, I have quite a task laid out before me.
Add in work, other obligations that I need to see to, I'm booked. I haven't made much of a dent in putting this all togther, although arguably the hard part is the beginning and ending, when everyone is playing together. That said, since this is a Community Project I thought I'd leave to all of you to finish putting this all together. The file has all the instruments, properly sequenced, but I did not get further than the Opening theme from Red (part 1).
MUS (http://www.mediafire.com/?9d8jy7k583k8s9b)
Now I had a few things that I wanted to do with it, so whoever decides to pick this up I can give you my notes with my intentions and the directions I planned on taking. It'll be nice to see some else's style mixed in with my own.
THAT SAID, I think we need to start planning out for next summer. This was very spur of the moment, and as such I'd love to something like this through to the end at least once. Sometime next week I'll put up another poll so I can guage what people want to do next year. If popular opinion doesn't change much by New Year's I'll get a list of people who want to play and start putting it together then, giving me months to work on it before summer even begins.
If we really wanted to we could continue this from now until the start of next summer to really polish it and then hit practices hard next year. That way we'll have time to prepare and fix things in the score if need be. Summer is going to be ending in the next few weeks here for a few people. I have band camp next week and the week after, and then school starts mid August. The only problem I might see is a drop in interest, but I'm sure it'll pick back up when it gets going again. Just a suggestion.
If that's the case then I could keep working on it throughout the year. Best case scenario is I can get it out to you all around thanksgiving, and you record and whatnot during the holidays.
While I'm a bit disappointed that it's going to be another year, I see some pluses to this. For one, by next summer, I'll have full access to a professional recording studio and all of its tools. So I'd be able to tweak a clean up the final video's audio, as well as record my own parts with super sexy microphones.
Super sexy microphones are SUPER SEXY, seriously. I have a pic of myself with that.
The only problem I see is that I doubt that everyone will still be here for it. If someone leaves, I guess we could re-open the applications for those particular instruments
Mixed feelings about this. While I am anxious to take something this big on, it does seem only right that we give it the time it deserves- and this deserves quality work. So I'm with Zunawe in saying we work on it throughout the school year. And Maestro, we're all willing to help out. If you're swamped at any point, PM one of us and we'll help out. Still pumped for this. :D
UPDATE!
It's coming along, slowly but surely. It's not my primary focus at this point in time, but I am working on it every now and then. I plan on having it finished in time for the holidays (read: between Thanksgiving and Christmas) and people can start working on it with the intention of recording in the summer.
I realize that some people may drop out in the meantime, but I can't afford to alter the score, meaning the parts written will be final. As such I have to be pragmatic and write each part individually as opposed to writing them in groups. When it's finished I'll just let people decide which piano part they want to try, with the parts getting easier going down the score. That means I'd like to reserve the top 5/6 piano parts for the most experienced players as they will be the most demanding.
Glad it's still coming along!
I'll still be in next summer.
Next summer I'll be in as well, and I'll have 2 years worth of piano under my belt by then too.
Quote from: Nebbles on September 16, 2012, 04:19:21 PMNext summer I'll be in as well, and I'll have 15 years worth of piano under my belt by then too.
Mewtwo.
This made mah day!! I'm still totally in!
I should still be in by then.
Unless something goes wrong...
Oh? What is this?
And why is there a lack of percussion on this list? Surely you need some sort of backbeat to rest on... ;)
I'm in, but I'm not sure exactly- is this like a record-yourself thing or a let's-meet-up-in-some-random-place-and-play-music thing?
I like moosic. especially Video game moosic. Why else would I be here (besides TWG ::) )
I'm terribly sorry but we've filled our roster months ago, where were you 5 months ago when we started putting this together. Unless you can offer and instrument that isn't piano, I don't think I can squeez anybody in at this point. Otherwise your best bet is to hang around in case somebody drops.

You only have one percussionist, though... believe me, that is NOT enough. and I can barely play piano. I'm all about rhythm.
I was just taking people as they came, and I have no idea how to write for a drum set so I was just going to let SFK handle it for the parts that needed it. If you can offer some unique percussion than I'll see what I can do.
If Kman can play Timpani, he's automatically signed up.
Oh definitely, I know exactly how to use a timpani.
I'm a percussionist too.... but where would you guys find the opportunity to use school equipment and record stuff?
Quote from: SuperFireKirby on September 17, 2012, 07:54:28 PMIf Kman can play Timpani, he's automatically signed up.
I love Timpani!

We are currently recording things for the All-State competition...and my mom has some recording software I believe. I don't know. but the software my band teacher is using makes the Timpani sound horrid.
No promises on anything, though.
I'm not concerned with your filming/recording processes, but just don't promise something you can't deliver on when the time comes.
Hold on... since Pumpy left NSM, are we gonna replace him, or...?

Software is 100% unimportant when it comes to recording. It's all about the hardware, bro. Microphones to be specific. Software, as far as sound quality goes, is just what you use to fix recording errors and background noise. Tell your band to get some Shure sm57's up in dat place!
Quote from: Nebbles on September 17, 2012, 09:04:56 PMHold on... since Pumpy left NSM, are we gonna replace him, or...?
Ooh, good point. Maestro, I think we have an opening for bassoon. Unless he suddenly pops back in. That would be an awesome way to go out. :D
By next summer, I should be good enough at guitar to play anything necessary.
(Maybe I'll be able to play trumpet by then... Hm. Guess we'll see.)
I could ask him, but honestly, he's probably extremely busy with college so... I believe we do have a bassoon opening.
Let's get a confirmation that he's dropping first. If he is then we'll have an open bassoon part.
All righty. Next time I see on Skype I'll ask him.
Just wondering, is Bespinben going to be replaced?
Bespinben is coming back, right? I thought that he was just taking a few months away from here. If that were true there would be little need to replace him. I could be wrong though.
Quote from: Zunawe on October 20, 2012, 12:53:17 PMBespinben is coming back, right? I thought that he was just taking a few months away from here. If that were true there would be little need to replace him. I could be wrong though.
2 years, exactly.
Lol, never mind then. I remembered 3 months for some reason.
Once I finish the arrangement I'll have a roll call to see who we've lost and who could fill those spots. Speaking of which, I've been working (as in a job) alot lately, so these side projects are busy gathering dust. However, I have no other pressing originals to work on right now, so this is my No. 1 priority right now, unfortunately I only have an hour long window to work on the per day, and not in a single sitting. In my mind this thing is practically done, it's writing it out and refining it that's time consuming to the point where I can't work on it effectively.
On the bright side, I'm making money, which is always a good thing.
Once again, can we help out at all?
Quote from: MaestroUGC on September 16, 2012, 03:42:22 PMI plan on having it finished in time for the holidays (read: between Thanksgiving and Christmas)
Praise Jesus, we're starting that time period... hopefully it'll be finished really soon.
Yes, yes, I'll be picking it back up tomorrow. I'm going to aim for it to be completed shortly after New Year's (before the spring semester starts rolling). If I don't meet it, then I will lay down my pen and never touch an instrument again.
Also, if your name is on the list of performers, please speak up so I know if we lost people or need to repurpose to score.
Present.
I'm still performing, so no worries. It being pushed back works in my favor, so I can be a little bit better by the time we all piece this together...
The idea is for practice to be during the spring with recording during the summer.
Works for me.
I'm still in 8)
Raring to go
Totes pumped.
*wants to join* :(
I call all of Maestro's instruments if he fails to finish by his set deadline.
FSM, if there is a piano or guitar part that needs to be filled, you'll be the first one I ask.
Still available on both instruments.
Quote from: MaestroUGC on November 23, 2012, 12:35:24 PMFSM, if there is a piano or guitar part that needs to be filled, you'll be the first one I ask.
I will not most likely be available until the early summer, so I recommend choosing someone else.
Um...can anybody here play trumpet for this?
also, this is a slim chance, but I'm getting an ocarina in a few weeks and if I could use it for anything, depending on my skill level... for this project. if possible. if not, just piano is okay.
Let's save the ocarina for where it really belongs.
Trumpet?
...If no one else can...I will...
Neat, also, how about flute? This really needs a treble wind beacuae the only instruments we have are all in lower registers (plus two violins).
Olimar to the rescue! as per usual.
I'm afraid I can't help, piano's really my only forte.
EDIT: goofy oxymoronic sentence ^
Harharhar, that made me smile.
Flute?
C'mon, I know somebody here can play the flute, or at least has a buddy who can?
It's really only for a couple of songs.
When's this going to be? If it won't be hard, I could do that one as well. I bought a flute a year ago and have been meaning to take lessons...
If it's all the same, I can play harmonica somewhat decently well.
I'm self-taught, and my harmonica won't allow me to bend notes but I should be able to do what a flute can.
Sort of an example of where I'm at with that: I've just learned the Zelda theme. (The one everyone knows)
If the substitution is an option, I've listed the easiest keys to play.
Preferred keys: C Major, C# Major, G Major, D Major, A minor, E minor, A#/Bb minor, B minor.
That might actually work well to mimic the original piece, yeah, now that I think about it, it will work perfectly for the piece I have in mind.
It's in D-flat Major so it shouldn't be an issue for you.
What's the expected release date? I wanna get started practicing :0
Release date: Not now.
Instruments:
Piano-3 years
Violin-6 years
Vocals-Lead-Tenor. Ranging from G above middle C (excluding Falsetto) to B an octave below middle C.
My piano instructor is sort of a "beginners" teacher, and while next year I'm going to move to the next level with another instructor, for now I'm only beginner-intermediate. As for Violin, I play for school, and although I'm the top of my class, I was never taught anything really advanced, but I can still shift. I can really do anything when it comes to vocals, so in order of expertise: Vocals>Violin>Piano.
you're a little late :|

Sounds good.
OMG a harmonica would be so freaking awesome. Waaaaaayyyyyyy better than a stupid flute
I have a sister who can play flute.
I can also play Tuba, Baritone, Trumpet, F-horn, and I have a melodica. Which is similar to like, an over-sized harmonica but, the dynamic range is a bit easier to achieve for me personally.
Okay nvm about dat stupid harmonica, WE MUST HAVE THE MELODICA.
I am so excited for this project omg

Sure and sure. Haha, what are we playing exactly?
Idk yet, but trumpet is definitely not my forte!

So no one has anything written for this, correct?
I'm working on it as fast as I can. Even as we type.

He had a little "spoiler" thing that he made I think around summertime. You could find it in the thread if you wanted a look.
EDIT: http://www.mediafire.com/?9d8jy7k583k8s9b
Ok Brassman, can I sign you up for Trumpet, F-Horn, and Melodica then?
No tuba?
Seriously though, could I keep my nifty little harmonica spot?
I'm self-taught. So this would be an amazing confidence builder.
I'll see what I can do, it's far better to have open options than to deny yourself possibilities.
For sure. I'll leave it up to you then. ;)
Haven't checked on this in a while.
Still wish to play.

Me too.
Spring semester is fast approaching! Hope work is going smoothly Maestro. Let us know if you need anything.
Yup. Still in and ready to help if need be.
I just now saw this, but is it too late to get in on this? I can do French Horn Parts if needed (it's my primary instrument) and also play some Trumpet and Ocarina if you should desire.
Bump.
How we doing? It's about that time.
I'm still working on it, I've just got other things to juggle while doing this.
How close?

And I did say that.
Welp, time to start studying linguistics!
I always get corrected on that spelling, yet continue to spell it wrong -.-
Oh by the way, no one answered my question. Maestro, I believe you're in charge of this? An answer would be appreciated.
I got an electric bass (a nice one at that) so you can add that to my list of instruments. As well as ukelele.
(If you end up using ukelele, don't bother adding tab because mine's a Venezuelan cuatro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuatro_(instrument)#The_Venezuelan_cuatro). It's alternate tuning, (waaaay alternate) which isn't provided in finale)
The uke is fresh from Venezuela. Got it there some time ago when visiting relatives. Finally got around to learning to play it.
(It's actually my sister's but she lets me use it whenever)
I don't mean to be a bothersome asshat, but could you update us on your current status in regards to this project, Maestro?
Thermf.
It's so big. Writing 16 bars takes 1 hour to properly notate for the pianos alone. I'm working, I swear to god I'm working. I keep making promises, but not this time. God help me I will finish this. I swear by my pen, I will finish this.
Halfway through Hearthome City.
Keep it up Maestro! We're all here rotting for you! (That came out wrong :P)
Keep on rockin', Maestro!
Say, is there a list of all the songs we're actually doing?
Quote from: MaestroUGC on June 16, 2012, 08:13:55 PMThis is the final set list:
1. Opening Theme - R/B/Y
2. Pokecenter - R/B/Y
3. Hearthome City - D/P/Pt
4. S.S. Anne - R/B/Y
5. Lavander Town - R/B/Y
6. Wild Pokemon Battle - R/B/Y
7. Anime Theme Song
8. Bycicle Theme - G/S/C
9. Mt. Coronet Peak - D/P/Pt
10. Battle World Champion - B/W
11. Viridian Forest - R/B/Y
12. National Park - G/SC
13. Canalave City - D/P/Pt
14. Pokemon Gym - R/B/Y
15. Elite Four/Gym Leader - R/B/Y
Most of the transitions will be based on R/B/Y themes, either as reprises or motivic glue.
Looks good. Wanna put this on the OP?
...well? How far are you now?
Or did you give up? Wait, you're Maestro... you never give up... right?
Give up? No.
Forget about entirely? All the time.
Look, don't expect this to be done any time soon. I never leave a project unfinished, but the actual completion time will vary wildly depending on pre-existing and new, upcoming projects.
Short version: It'll be done when it's done.
Well if this carries on you can list me down with bass as well. Electric bass. And banjo.
You can count on me for euphonium/trombone :D
I think maybe the title should be changed to reflect the fact that this can't be rewritten, and very few people can join beyond filling spots.
Not to sound harsh against you, FierceDiety. It's just that I think Maestro has had to mention this for the past 3 pages.
Erm, not to sound defensive or anything, but I don't see him saying anything like that over the past 3 pages... And even if he had been, I was merely indicating that I was available to play, if need be. No need to get all uppity because I play the same instruments as you :)
You all have a knack for finding things that have long since been abandoned.
Too much ambition, too little time.

I didn't actually look, I'm just saying a lot of people have asked. I may have misunderstood because I misread it as "count me in" instead of "count on me". And I welcome more low brass. Trombone = best.
Haha, no worries. And yeah, low brass for life. Although, I feel at least financially obligated to say that euphonium = best, considering the buttload of money I spent on my besson :P

Welp, this was a failed endeavor. The reason this never came to fruition was because I am just not a fan of Pokemon, and while I enjoyed some of the music you guys presented me, it wasn't enough to motivate me to keep working on this regularly.
I don't really have a lot to show for this, so I'm going to wrap up what I've got, take another head count and give this another go. This time I'm choosing what it will be this time.
It's going to be Mario, because I like Mario.
