I think it would be helpful for those using notepad to be able to:
1. Change tempo
2. Change key signature
3. Change time signature
Tempo is doable but I'd have to set it for all the different common tempos. Theres no way notepad can edit expressions. I doubt I could get workaround for time and key changes. Overall it would be better just to use our finale can't do something thread.
Repeats. I like seeing how music flows through a repeat, but I don't like having to copy the music over just to hear it, and then deleting it again. Decorative repeats are dumb.
^unless you actually want to play the piece
I meant in notepad. If you want to play a piece you'll most likely use a PDF. If you want to hear it decorative things aren't going to help.
No, I personally use MUS for the sheets I want to play. This is a SHEET MUSIC site, not a midi site.
I said PDF, not MIDI. I also said most likely. Anyway, that even helps further what I'm saying. Would you rather look for where it goes back to, or hear and watch where it goes back to?
The point is I find decorative repeats annoying while arranging, and sometimes listening.
I said MIDI because that's a sound file, which you clearly care more about than how the sheet actually looks
Clearly? I can play better when I've heard it before, but I use visuals to play music. Then memorization based on visuals. I never tried to make it sound like I relied more on sound, and I definitely value what it looks like more than what it sounds like (that is, if the sound matches the looks). I'm just saying that not being able to hear the flow of a repeat without doing extra work is a little annoying.
Knock it off, you two. Zunawe, if you want repeats to work, simply copy a measure from another file that contains a working repeat, and paste it in you're file. But Slow's right, priority is the sheet's appearance. Having repeats work is HIGHLY irrelevant. (ever seen my sig?)
I didn't know you could copy them like that. I know that the purpose is to make the sheets functional and easy to read, but I'm just saying that it might help the arranger to hear the repeat without extra work. This is about the convenience of the arranger, right? It wasn't the final product I was worried about.
Anyway, I guess my suggestion is no longer needed. Thanks. :)

I can add that in.
Here's the first version:

I'll write up some documentation later.
Also, as I learned before, it would be nice to have one with some grace notes in it. I copied and pasted them from a song on the site, but it took away a whole measure when I pasted them into my sheet.

Ok. I can do that.
I'd like double bar lines. I'd really like that.
Huh. Okay, so I was fiddling with one of FluteNinja's arrangements and I figured out that I could do whatever I wanted with it. It seems that all you need to do is load up a full version document. I'm still toying with it, but so far all articulations and dynamics are available (including the things in the dynamics section). It's also saveable.
What doesn't seem to work is anything without a button. For example, Notepad has no option for double bar lines, so you can't place them. There's no button for a key or time change, so you can't do that. Otherwise things seem to be functioning fine.
Repeats are still decorative, btw.

Repeats should work. I was testing that last night.
It might be possible to copy and paste double bar lines; I have yet to try that. If not, I could add a shape expression.
I meant that when I insert my own repeat it still doesn't function, but when I insert my own accel. it functions properly. Copying a repeat should work fine.
More clefs than just treble and bass. For example, an alto clef, or a tenor clef, or octava clefs... Those are quite useful.

That. Is. Awesome.
Like really, I can't begin to fathom how helpful that's going to be for Notepad users. Thanks Shado!

Holy cow, Shado! That's epic! Love the bottom right corner.
'Tis epic! Tanks.
It works beautifully... Quite flawless, except for two small features..
1) What if the grace note had to have an accidental on it? (For example, a sharp or flat)
2) If the note the accidental was associated with was a dotted/double dotted note?
Those are just two ways to make it better than it already is... It's amazingly pro already though.. Thanks a ton! ;)

Right. Gotcha. Again, thanks a ton! This is indefinitely valuable to notepad users everywhere! This should be under "NSM Resources".

It will eventually. I'll also ask for the templates to be added to the what your sheet should look like thread.

I've added instructions for both of these, as well as a graphic of what a highlighted note should look like.
Sounds good!
Do you think it would be necessary to have a measure in the work space in 3/8 time?
(Okay, it's not common, but it does exist... and is more commonly used than even 5/4)

Sure.
Also, fixed the sheet a bit.
Update: added 3, 2, and 1 beat pickups.
Updated file will be available once I get on the laptop and a place that has wifi.
Sweet. :D
On behalf of Bubbles7689, I'd like to also request dotted quarter pickups as well.

Thanks ^^ Now how do I use this template?

I'm writing up documentation at the moment, but I can answer any questions you may have.
what do you need to do?
I just need a 4/4 timed A major sheet with a dotted quarter note pickup in the beginning

Use the
Selection Tool to copy/paste repeats, clear items such as the 1st and 2nd repeats, and delete excess measures. Make sure to select the measure stack.

Yay! Thanks
Ok wait.. I tried inputting some of the notes and it seems like everymeasure is a dotted wuarter note beat, not just the first one. This doesnt make any sense though :/

Added more repeat options on page 7.
So, does the eleventh expression tool actually do something? You should make it play a sound byte from Professor Layton.
Also, key sigs and time sigs? I can't find a tool to make them, so that would mean I have to copy them in, if possible.

Key and time signatures can't be copied unfortunately.
Hmmm. . . . So I guess the only way around that is xml to other editors or ask for a specific template. Oh well. Also, I'm not sure how the 8va's work. When I put one in (to the template) it just creates that one thing, and I can't find an option to extend it so that it doesn't change the entire rest of the song.

They're not the variety with the lines. I could create an expression that turns off the transposition but not a line that can be extended.
What about something like this (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/TheLegendofZelda/TheLegendofZelda:MajorasMask/ClockTown-SecondDay.pdf)?

That looks like it was done with the 8va/8vb tool.
Is there any way to get grace notes to playback in Finale Notepad? In this articulation tool, there are grace notes that I can put in, but they only work as decoration.
All the grace notes I've been able to put into notepad have played back. I'm not sure why they wouldn't for you.
In Notepad, there's no grace note tool in the Simple Entry Pallet, so I tried using the articulation tool in the template at the beginning of the topic. There's a grace note icon, but it doesn't really "stick" to the staff. I have the ability to move it around and off the staff, as if it were a text box. I'm guessing that's not the right way to put in grace notes, so what is?

Don't use the one in the articulation menu.
Use this where you can copy and paste them:

Thank you so much for the workaround! I think I understand how to do it now.
Why isn't this topic stickied?

I don't think that's necessary. I'm going to put this in the NSM Resources thread once I finish the documentation. I'd also like to see this in the what your sheet should look like thread.
Here's the first version of my documentation.

So I just realized that you made the tools work :DD Thank you so much this helps alot
The only thing I'm wondering is with the 8va tool, theres no dotted lines to show which parts to play an octave higher, plus it affects both the right hand and the left hand even though I attached it to the top layer only. How do I fix this?
Buy Finale. I'm pretty sure that whatever is in the template is just an articulation or something (just a guess). The actual tool is a smart shape where you double click and drag to the point you want to end it. As a workaround, you could carefully place a bunch of dashes (---------------------) next to the 8va and create an 8vb where you want to end it and hide it. I'm not sure how you would fix the both hands thing though.
