Congratulations Wolves!
Hey everyone. I hope you enjoyed that game. I put a lot of work into hosting it, and even though I hit a couple of bumps along the way, I'm glad things played out the way they did. I'm going to be doing this post game thread in four parts.
Part 1: Role Reveal
Part 2: Actions
Part 3: Game Analysis, Balance and Mistakes
Part 4: Player Analysis
Part 5: Bonus Material and MVPs
...with a part being posted whenever. Part 1 coming in the next post!
The reason for this is that I have a lot to say. If I wanted to say everything at once, I wouldn't be able to post the post game until tomorrow afternoon, which nobody would like. This also gives me time to make a few cool things in the later sections and make the post-game cover all of the interesting things that occurred during the game.

Spoiler
Quote from: Bird on May 29, 2013, 05:17:52 PMThiannon, you are the White Walker Leader. You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Summon Winter - You have the ability to summon winter. This must be performed ahead of time, by sending a PM to the host during a night phase. The following night phase, winter will deal one heart of damage to up to 6 players of your choice. Single use.
Heal - Heal one player one heart each night phase. Just send a PM to the host with the player you want healed.
Chilling Insight - Learn a player's role, allegiance and powers each night phase. Just send a PM to the host with who you want to know about. Two uses.
Weakness to Fire - Fire-based damage hits you twice as hard.
You also have the following two false roles with which to claim with:
Catelyn Stark
Spoiler
Thiannon, you are Catelyn Stark, a member of the House Stark faction.
Catelyn Stark (http://i50.tinypic.com/207pdno.png) - Lady Catelyn Stark is Lord Eddard Stark's wife. Born a Tully of Riverrun in the south, she has yet to learn to love the North, but certainly loves her children. She is protective of them, and apprehensive that their safety may be endangered when war approaches. Also she would get really mad if something happened to them.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Mother's Love - Kiss a player. If they're a stark, they gain one health. If not, they'll be kind of weirded out probably.
Apprehension - During a day phase, your vote counts as 1. If you change your vote, it counts as 2. Be careful.
Fury - If another Stark dies, you will be alerted the name of the player, their role, and their powers. You will also gain the ability to steal a player's health during a night phase of your choice (1 heart). Single use.
Brienne of Tarth
Spoiler
Thiannon, you are Brienne of Tarth, a member of the House Baratheon faction.
Brienne of Tarth (http://i47.tinypic.com/16jlwnm.png) - A woman who would be a knight. Totally in love with Renly, and is completely dedicated to whatever cause he may pursue. Used to getting mocked for being a chick with a sword, but she's good with the sword so it doesn't matter that much. Very simple, not into the plots everybody else is obsessed with. Oh, also she's super tall and ugly.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Protector - Send the host a PM suggesting that you would like to protect a certain player. That player takes zero damage, and the player who attempted to damage them takes 1 heart of damage. If the damager is a wolfing, the wolf who sent the PM takes the damage. Single use.
Dedication - On nights 1, 2, and 3, you may send the host a PM containing a person's name you might want to dedicate yourself towards. If any of those players are Baratheons, you will be alerted, although you will not be told which one.
Love - Cry tears of love over a player's dead body by sending the host a PM at night. If that player is a Baratheon, you unlock the "vengeance" ability. Single use.
Vengeance - Attack the player of your choice at night. If they're a Targaryen you gain a health (1). This attack does one heart of damage.
Zunawe, you are the White Walker Spy. You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Disguise Kit - Disguise you or one of your teammates to be a certain role or allegiance. You can make them Baratheon, or you can make them Robert Baratheon. This makes them take on the allegiance and characteristics of that role, and hides your weakness to fire. Five uses, each use lasts through the night phase. Send a PM to the host with the player you're disguising and what you'd like to disguise them as at night to activate it.
Nullify - Send a PM to the host with a player's name stating that you would like to Nullify them. This makes any power they attempt to use that night phase fail. Single use.
Steal - Steal a player's items. Two uses. Cannot target the same player more than once.
Weakness to Fire - Fire-based damage hits you twice as hard.
You also have the following two false roles with which to claim with:
Jaime Lannister
Spoiler
Zunawe, you are Jaime Lannister, a member of the House Lannister faction.
Jaime Lannister (http://i.imgur.com/54DU3.png) - Jaime Lannister is one of the greatest knights of the Kingsguard, a group of bodyguards sworn to protect the King. However, he has earned the nickname "Kingslayer" for killing the King (Mad King Aerys) he was sworn to protect. They call him honorless, but that doesn't change the skill he has with a sword. His last name also means he's super wealthy, which is pretty neat. Twins with Cersei. Has a sort of lazy, arrogant coolness about him.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Lazy - Non-lethal damage takes an additional phase to register. The damage, assuming it isn't lethal, is essentially postponed to the following phase.
Stab - At any night phase send the host a PM saying that you would like to stab a certain player. This player takes two hearts of damage. If you strike a Stark, this attack which is ordinarily single-use, refreshes with double damage. If you strike a Lannister, you die.
Shove - At any night phase, send the host a PM saying that you would like to shove a certain player. This player's powers will fail the following night phase. If used on a Stark you heal fully. Single use.
Theon Greyjoy
Spoiler
Zunawe, you are Theon Greyjoy, one of the game's third party roles.
Theon Greyjoy (http://i48.tinypic.com/k38y2o.png) - The only surviving son of Balon Greyjoy, the Lord of the Iron Islands. When the Greyjoys rebelled against the crown, Eddard Stark took Theon as his hostage and ward. He was raised alongside the other Starks, and is dark, witty, treacherous and good with a bow.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Archery - Send a PM to the host with the name of the player. If that player's name is adjacent to you on the player list, they take two damage. If they are one away from being adjacent to you, they take one damage. Otherwise they take zero damage. (If you are near the bottom of the list, think of the list as repeating.) Single use.
Treachery - Send a PM to the host at night saying that you would like to be treacherous to a certain house. From that point onward, that house's powers will fail on you, and you will function as a member of that house when other players use powers on you.
Iron Heir - If you are the last surviving third-party player, you will gain an extra heart of health and be completely healed.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf, you are the White Walker Lieutenant. You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Undead Thrall - Revive one player. This player loses their allegiance, cannot use powers or vote, is weak to fire, and counts for the wolves. They will be known to the thread since they will have icy blue hearts as health. Can be used on wolves or humans. Single use.
Freeze Corpse - Send a PM to the host with a dead player's name stating that you would like to freeze them. A frozen corpse cannot be revived. Two uses.
Icy Spear - Throw an icy spear at target player by sending a PM to the host at night. This player loses two hearts of health. Single use.
Weakness to Fire - Fire-based damage hits you twice as hard.
You also have the following two false roles with which to claim with:
Khal Drogo
Spoiler
The Boy Who Cried Wolf, you are Khal Drogo, a member of the House Targaryen faction.
Khal Drogo (http://winter-is-coming.net/images/jason-momoa.jpg) - The savage leader of the Dothraki and husband of Daenerys Targaryen. Extremely strong and an incredible rider and fighter. Tough, terrifying and ambitious, there is little he could not do if he were determined, despite the simplicity of Dothraki culture.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Execution - If a player is not at full health, you may instantly kill them by sending a PM to the host at night saying you would like to execute that player. Single use.
Horde Commander - During one night phase, send the host a PM stating the three players you would like to send your scouts to. You can have your scouts hurt any of those players (1 heart) or protect them from damage, or a combination. Single use.
Relentless - At the end of every even-numbered day phase, you heal one heart for every vote you had against a member of House Baratheon at the end of a phase. Wow, that was convoluted. Tell me if you need help understanding this one.
Varys
Spoiler
The Boy Who Cried Wolf, you are
Varys, one of the game's third party roles. You are not aligned with the humans or the wolves.
Varys (http://i.imgur.com/yxy5w.png) - Varys is an enigmatic figure. A eunuch who rose to become a King's Advisor thanks to his network of spies. Little happens that he does not hear about, and its a mystery where his allegiances truly lie. Also he smells really nice.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Spy - Learn a player's allegiance by sending their name to the host at night stating you would like to spy on them. 2 uses.
War Plot - Must be done one cycle ahead of time. During a night phase, tell the host that you would like to start a war. The following night phase, damage will be doubled and war will break out. Single use.
Enigmatic - Your win condition is to survive to be one of the last 4 players in this game. Non-overriding.
Knowledge -
"Winter is Coming" - You will be alerted when Winter is Coming one phase ahead of time. (As in, when it strikes at night, you will be alerted at the beginning of the previous day phase.)
Knowledge -
"Succession" - You know the order of succession in Westeros. When the King on the throne dies, the throne will go to the player whose name is highest on this list (who is also alive).

Yugi
Spoiler
Quote from: Bird on May 29, 2013, 05:27:17 PMYugi, you are Eddard Stark, a member of the House Stark faction.
Eddard Stark (http://i48.tinypic.com/28akbgk.png) - The honorable Lord of Winterfell and head of House Stark, Eddard "Ned" Stark is a man of principles. He's a good man, but very grim. He's known for repeating the words of House Stark: "Winter is Coming."
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Honor - At night, guard the player of your choice from damage. The second time you guard a player, you have a 25% of dying. The third time you guard a player, you have a 50% of dying and so on. Partaking in a Lannister lynch reduces this number by 25%, partaking in a Stark lynch increases this number by 25%, and you will not be alerted if either of these things happens.
Head of House - Send a PM to the host during a night phase containing the name of a player. If that player was a Stark, you gain a vigi to be used in a later night phase. If that vigi strikes a Lannister or White Walker, it is refreshed, otherwise it's single use. The "send in a name" is also single use; you only have one chance.
Knowledge - "Winter is Coming" - Winter is a phenomenon of the White Walkers which will damage up to 6 players with one heart of damage. You will be alerted the day phase before the night when it happens.
You also have the following false role to claim with:
Sandor Clegane
Spoiler
Yugi, you are Sandor Clegane, a member of the House Lannister faction.
Sandor Clegane (http://winter-is-coming.net/images/rory-mccann.jpg) - Gregor Clegane's younger brother. When he was a small boy, Gregor shoved his face into a hot fire, burning half of it, making him look pretty hideous. He's still an excellent swordsman, and incredibly loyal to House Lannister. He's no knight though, and hates all they stand for. He hates a lot of things, really.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Weakness to Fire - Fire type damage hits you twice as hard.
Bodyguard - Send the name of a player to the host saying you would like to be their bodyguard. That night phase, they take zero damage, and you take half of the damage they would have received. Single use.
Stab - Send a PM to the host at night saying you would like to stab a certain player. That player takes two hearts of damage. If you hit a Stark, this move refreshes with double damage, otherwise it's single use.
Warrior's Cunning - Learn a player's powers, but not the name of those powers or the name of the role. Single use. Activate by sending a PM to the host at night.
k-NiGhT/TZP
Spoiler
Quote from: Bird on May 29, 2013, 05:35:13 PMK-NiGhT, you are Jon Snow, a member of the House Stark faction.
Jon Snow (http://i.imgur.com/S9Prr.png) - Jon Snow is the black sheep of the Stark family, namely because he is not a Stark. Bastard children of the north are given the surname "Snow," and Catelyn Stark is not his mother. Since he won't inherit any lands or titles, he sought to find his place by joining the Night's Watch. There he watches from a wall of ice a wasteland full of ancient monsters and stuff. He carries around a torch, is very similar to his father, and has a giant wolf pet named Ghost.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Ghost - When you first take damage, although the damage will still be sustained, your pet wolf mirrors that damage back at your opponent. This can deal a maximum of 2 hearts.
Watcher - Send a PM to the host during a night phase containing the name of a player you would like to watch. The host will tell you who that player targeted during that night phase. Does not return wolfing targets unless the person you watch sent the wolfing PM. Can return multiple targets.
Burn - Send a PM to the host during a night phase containing the name of a player you would like to throw a torch at. That player takes 1 damage unless they are weak to fire. Can also burn corpses, making them impossible to revive. Single use.
Knowledge - "White Walkers" - White Walkers can "paint" themselves to take on the characteristics of certain roles. They have 5 of these paintings and each one lasts a night phase.
You also have the following false role to claim with:
Melisandre
Spoiler
K-NiGhT, you are Melisandre, a member of the House Baratheon faction.
Melisandre (http://i45.tinypic.com/13yqtg8.png) - A red priestess of Asshai who became a loyal follower of Stannis Baratheon. She has magic powers, many relating to the use of fire, alchemy or poison. Believes she can see things in her fires.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Power of Fire - Fire type damage heals you.
Poisoner - You are immune to being poisoned. Poisoning a Targaryen fully heals you.
Foresight - Send a PM to the host at night saying you would like to heal a certain player. In one full cycle, that player will be fully healed.
You also have the following items:
Poison - Poisons a player. Use at night by a PM to the host. A poisoned player loses one half heart every phase.
Antidote - Cures a poisoned player.
FireArrow
Spoiler
Quote from: Bird on May 29, 2013, 05:43:38 PMFireArrow, you are Tyrion Lannister, a member of the House Lannister faction.
Tyrion Lannister (http://i.imgur.com/XIvZh.png) - Tyrion is a dwarf. Not the magical kind, a person with dwarfism. And he's sort of the reject of House Lannister, since none of his family likes him, despite the fact that he often has to fix their mistakes. He's extremely witty and tricky, but weak on the battlefield because of his stature.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Fixer - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player you would like to heal. That player is healed fully. Single use.
Wit - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player you would like to make a cutting remark about. That player loses one heart of health. This is a single use move, unless you use it on a Stark. In that case, it refreshes with double damage.
Trickery - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player you would like to trick. This will cause update posts to make it look like this player has lost a heart of health when they really haven't. Single use. If this is used to make a player look like they lost their last heart, the player will be sent a PM that they are still alive.
Fragility - Despite appearing to have three hearts, you are really quite fragile and will die if you ever get down to one heart remaining.
You also have the following false role to claim with:
Lysa Arryn
Spoiler
FireArrow, you are Lysa Arryn, one of the game's third party roles.
Lysa Arryn (http://winter-is-coming.net/images/kate-dickie.jpg) - Lysa Arryn became unhinged when her husband died. Actually she's sort of a lunatic. She's paranoid, thinks she's seeing plots against her everywhere and has taken refuge in the mountain castle called The Eyrie. They kill people there by making them go through what is called the "Moon Door" where they fall to their deaths. Neat!
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Lunacy - Randomly deal two players one heart of damage each. Use by PMing the host at night explaining that you would like to activate lunacy.
Moon Door - Every night phase, a random player will walk in front of the Moon Door. You have the option to push them through that door, killing them. You can only kill one player this way. Every time you fail to kill a player this way, the chance that you yourself will die on the next attempt increases by 20%. So on night 1, you'll have a zero percent chance of dying if you try and kill the person, on n2 a 20% chance, on n3 a 40% chance and so on.
Plotter - Pick a night phase to activate plotter on. You will learn one power, power user and target that happened on that phase.

Spoiler
Quote from: Bird on May 29, 2013, 05:54:02 PMOlimar12345, you are Tywin Lannister, a member of the House Lannister faction.
Tywin Lannister (http://i.imgur.com/b5qMQ.png) - Tywin Lannister is a wealthy, insightful, influential, and powerful man. When he was a teenager he completely exterminated a competing house, literally wiping the name "Reyne" from the Earth. He has many informants and cares about the legacy and reputation of House Lannister more than almost anything else.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Legacy - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player. If that player is a Lannister, gain a heart permanently. If that player is a Stark, lose a heart permanently. Single use.
Insight - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player. You learn that player's allegiance (Lannister/Stark/Baratheon/Targaryen/Other). Single use.
Knowledge - "Winter is Coming" - Winter is an effect brought about by the White Walkers which causes 6 players to lose one heart of health. This happens at night, and you will be alerted the day phase before it happens.
Knowledge - "State of Westeros" - When war breaks out, all damage is doubled. This happens at night, and you will be alerted the day phase before it happens. You also know the line of succession in Westeros. If the King dies, the living player who appears to have the role highest on this list will take his place.Spoiler

Robert Baratheon
Spoiler
Olimar12345, you are Robert Baratheon, a member of the House Baratheon faction.
Robert Baratheon (http://i50.tinypic.com/219cg1u.png) - Robert Baratheon was once a fierce warrior and commander, crushing enemie and armies with his warhammer. Now he's sort of just a fat, lusty lecher. He still keeps up with the politics and plots of Westeros, but doesn't relish it the way other characters do. Hates the Targaryens for killing his love, Lyanna Stark.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Warhammer - Send the host a PM at night naming the player you would like to bash with your hammer. That player takes one damage and will be unable to use powers the following night phase (which they will be alerted of). Single use.
Lusty - Have an affair with target player by naming them in a PM to the host at night. If that player's role was female, you gain all your health back. Single use.
Hatred - You hate those darn Targaryens! If you start a successful lynch against a Targaryen, your powers are all refreshed.
Knowledge - "Targaryen Exiles" - You know that the two Targaryen roles in this game are Daenerys and Viserys.
Editing Pt. 2 into this post for easy reading. Sorry FireArrow! ~ Birdshadowkirby/davy
Spoiler

Gregor Clegane (http://winter-is-coming.net/images/conan-stevens.jpg) - "Tywin's Mad Dog" they call him. He's an 8-foot-tall killing machine, with the tactical skills of an ape and the scaring skills of the Bottom of the Well from Ocarina of Time. He does Tyiwn's dirty work: pillaging, killing children, you name it. His huge size, addiction to painkillers and monstrous acts have left him mostly unfeeling.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Unfeeling - Non-lethal damage does not affect you.
Stab - Send a PM to the host at night containing the name of a player you would like to stab. That player takes two hearts of damage. While this move is ordinarily single-use, if you hit a Stark, the move refreshes with double damage.
Pillage - Send a PM to the host each night phase stating which location you want to pillage.
Stark Village - 70% Success Rate - Possible Items (Heal 1 Heart, Hurt 1 Heart, Guard)
Baratheon Town - 40% Success Rate - Possible Items (Heal 2 Hearts, Hurt 2 Hearts, Determine Allegiance, Nullify)
Targaryen City - 20% Success Rate - Possible Items (Kill, Determine False Role, Determine Power)
Lannister Seaport* - 100% Success Rate - Possible Items (Revive, Determine All Powers, Determine Role)
*Pillaging a Lannister Seaport causes you to lose your allegiance with the Lannisters and damages you two hearts through Unfeeling.
You also have the following false role to claim with:
Robb Stark
Spoiler
shadowkirby, you are Robb Stark, a member of the House Stark faction.
Robb Stark (http://i47.tinypic.com/illk4m.png) - Robb Stark is the eldest son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark and will inherit Winterfell and all of its titles. Like his father, he's honorable, with a strong sense of justice, although he does have a rebellious side as well. Excellent with a sword, too.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Rebellious - If you start a successful lynch against a Lannister, you are healed and Stab is refreshed.
Stab - Send a PM to the host a night containing the name of the player you want stabbed. That player takes 2 damage.
Justice - If a Stark is killed at night, you will be alerted. You may send in three names the following night phase. If one of them is the player's attacker, you will be told. For wolves, this must be the player who sent the attack in.
Knowledge - "Winter is Coming" - You will be told when winter is coming.

Where Robert was easygoing, Stannis was stubborn and where Robert would let things slide, Stannis would deliver unflinching and merciless justice. A fierce naval commander and zealous believer in a the "Red God" of Melisandre. Also he will do whatever he can to spread information he believes to be true if it is what's right.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Armada - Send out two ships to protect two players from damage during one phase. Just send the names of those players to the host at night saying you want to guard them with your Armada. Single use.

Dissent - Send a PM to the host containing a message you want shared. He'll post this message in this thread at the beginning of the following phase, but players will know it was a player-written message. Single use.

Viserys Targaryen (http://i46.tinypic.com/2hs3y8l.png) - The exiled Targaryen Prince. When Mad King Aerys was killed, the Targaryens were forced into hiding. As a result of this (or perhaps as a result of all the Targaryen inbreeding), he's gone sort of mad. Known as "The Beggar King" since he flees from place to place, begging for an army to take back the only home he ever knew. Also he gets really angry.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Madness - Send a PM to the host during a night phase containing the name of the player you would like to use Madness on. That player takes one heart of damage. Another random player will be fully healed. 3 uses.
Wrath - Earn a one-heart permanent health increase if you kill a Baratheon with Madness.

Smuggle - Every night phase, you may attempt to smuggle a good. There are three categories of goods you can smuggle:
Precious Good (Fails if a single player targets you, causing you to take 2 damage) - Poison (does 1/2 heart of damage to a player each phase), Target History (gives you a player's target history, in order, when used)
Decent Good (Fails if more than one player targets you, causing you to take 1 damage) - Spyglass (checks allegiance of a player), disguise (lets you take on appearance and characteristics of another role)

Twins with Jaime.
You have the following abilities and characteristics:

You have the following abilities and characteristics:
Marry - Send in the name of a player to the host. If that player is male and not gay, you marry them, adopting their allegiance. The love from this marriage causes you to heal one another one half-heart each night phase. And even though you're a human, but you also have an additional (and non-overriding) way to win the game: by marrying the King. To do this, you must send in the name of a role to the host, saying you want to marry it. If it's the King, you win no matter what else happens.

Thanks for creating and hosting such an awesome game! It was a blast! ;D
Man. I really don't believe it. Zunawe, I'm assuming you were a wolf. Way to lay low. -_-
good game everybody.... argh
Damn. I guess I should have gone after Zunawe instead of Bubbles. Ahh well. Next time!
FINALLY, WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT...
Does it suprise me that wolves won??? Not really, Town was running around either "drunk" or with their heads chopped off.
Ill prolly right a novel with all the thoughts running through my head...
I stopped sending PMs to bird with thoughts at about day 3... felt sorry for his inbox,
I can tell you right now, Wolves had a ton load of stuff (that was semi suprising) and some other things suprised me...
(wondering if i can post that list up of what the wolves had???)
I only know what the wolves had, Nothing else.
After reviewing it...
They played a somewhat good game.
More thoughts later, When moar people come by
Part 1 is up. The size of it required me to shove a bit into FireArrow's post, but oh well. I suppose I could have just used the first and second posts rather than the second and third, but... yeah, oh well.
Zunawe knows that we would have lynched him if the humans lasted until the next day ::)
Bubbles was attacked twice on the last night phase. I was really hoping Zunawe would have attacked TZP instead. TZP would have reflected the damage back, they both would have died, and the game would have ended with every player dead except Mashi, the undead thrall.
Oh well.
More on that kind of stuff in Part 2 and 3.
Yeah, how did we lose 3 last night? Man, we were so close.... yeah, Zunawe would undoubtedly have been the lynch.
TZP was still irrationally paranoid, because if I was a wolf, I would have known he was Stark and I would have just disguised as Varys anyways.
Toby was also irrationally paranoid, because he swapped out two names which made his succession list wrong. Had it been right, I honestly wouldn't care that he was a wolf!
I'm sorry Liggy D:

You made it very, very clear that Varys was higher up in the list than you were.
Additionally, the list I gave you I believe was entirely right except for two names, which I honestly would have loved to know.
QuoteVengeance - Send in the name of a Targaryen on Night 2 and a Baratheon on Night 3. If successful, the Baratheon dies, you and the Targaryen are healed, and your other abilities are recharged.
Before anyone asks Why i played the way i played ("hunting" olimar and firearrow down)
Thats the reason.
I must say, Thanks for the wolves, For at least letting me talk to bird (somewhat)
I never saw myself as a "powerful role".
I over estimated The Wolves revive, And was scared of losing my one shot revive, just like that.
Fire was great, But i didnt feel like it was all that special being 1 shot, And hence my quest to get double the power
(yes i was greedy :/)
To my "alliance"
Sorry for not speaking to you, Some facts i should have shared,
-the idea of "liggy joining"
-Me thinking that i was a dead man (after FSM's Post) (that reminds me... Why didnt you try to lynch me???)
I was afraid of acting wolfish by taking control (broke a fanks rule...) so maybe thats also a bit of loss there,
I was hoping that you could see both of my roles... and from what i have given, Understand the danger of said roles if i were a wolf... but eh... My fault to trying to use that card as a reason of my humanity.
Im going to go through again, and make a huge list of all things missed xD
All jokes aside, this was a great game, and my utmost thanks to Bird for putting in the massive amounts of time and energy I know it takes to host a mystery game of this size and calibre. It was probably the best-designed game I've ever played, and that's saying something. I was a little disappointed in my performance--davy and Mashi read me like a book! Still, though, I think I did okay for being an NSM newbie (you guys have some crazy ideas of what wolfish behaviour looks like!) and not having been a wolf in over two years.
The Day 2 lynch was huge for us, as was stealing BDS's Pentoshi dollars Night 4. Once Day 4 rolled around, we were sitting rather pretty. Zunawe executed things flawlessly N5, though, and was a great guy to have coordinating our power selections. It was fun to work with Toby briefly, too!
All the best with TWG going forward, guys!
Quote from: fank009 on June 13, 2013, 09:59:43 PM-Me thinking that i was a dead man (after FSM's Post) (that reminds me... Why didnt you try to lynch me???)

Sorry, I should of trusted you more. If I did, then I would of never suspected liggy or mashi, which ended up ruining everything.
I think thia said it best,
paraphrasing: this nit tight group has crazy ideas for what woles do.
And i agree, once you play ome way, its hard to play the same way again, cause humans are scared of what they can do.
You never told me that my money counted as an item (especially since my fake role had items under a different category, it seemed rather vague). ._.
Though, I would've killed FSM if my money hadn't been stolen, since TZP convinced me not to go after Thiannon (he thought the fact that FSM hadn't been replaced after he asked to be replaced was suspicious).
This was a fun game: despite the fact that I didn't really know anything about Game of Thrones before the game began, I grew fond of House Targaryen (especially because of its relation to dragons :P).
Stark > Lannister > Tyrell > Baratheon > Arryn > Targaryen> Greyjoy
This is the one true order! Unless you want to move a house a spot or two up or down (with the exception of Greyjoy and Targaryen). I could see that. And I think I'm probably not actually caught up with the book series yet.
it's disappointing that one of the best Starks (Tony) didn't make it into the game though!
I might reread the game later!

Evil giggle.
Even with all our powers, it was tricky. This was my final PM.
QuoteI'm going to ragequit if this doesn't work. Not really, but I would certainly damage something.
Steal from Bubbles
Wolf Bubbles
Do 1 heart of damage to davy using Pentoshi Dollars
Do 2 hearts of damage to FSM using Pentoshi Dollars
Heal Zunawe
Disguise Zunawe as Jaime Lannister
Raise Mashi as Undead Thrall
That should cover everything.
Some of you guys pointed out my inactivity in the thread, and I honestly think it would have been the same had I been human. I'm just not as active in general on NSM.
Anyway, that was a very interesting game. There were some some very lucky and some very unlucky events for us.

Well, I hadn't considered anyone trying to steal from you until it happened. That happened a few times this game, actually: I didn't consider every power being used on every player, and every possible combination and whatnot. I spent a ton of time on this game, but it still wasn't enough! And when it did happen, I felt like it would make sense for you to lose the money and for the thieves to be able to use it. I got a second opinion from Nighthawk and he agreed with me. Oh well, it's another point to go into the lengthy host mistakes section!
The wolves probably did get lucky by stealing from you, but they got unlucky in a whole lot of other cases. It likely evened out. And even with that incredibly clutch steal in the endgame, the humans still could have won on night 5 if they'd played their cards right!
Didn't like this.
You know how I got that first succession list? My wolf fake claim. You know how I got the near enough real one? By seering Olimar and he had it!
I lied about only getting the role and what house they were from, I wanted to know the abilities myself.
I was feeling really good this game until I then found out my wolf succession list was FAKE. Why do wolves get fake infoo?
And the reason why I faked the succession list was because you would of been like why are you number 2 when you know the succession list?
To many people new the real list, it was so unfair. There was like no way we could become king with guards and shizzle.
Also don't lynch someone when there is only 30mins left in phase and they can't defend themselves, that is horrid. You know how I felt while reading that? Flippin distraught. I was feeling sooo good. I thought my play was A+, I thought I could be going for MVP! but no...
You guys didn't pm much either while I was alive, I was like pming you guys all the time.
Zunawe for MVP obviously.
Don't fret about it Thiannon; you were able to ward away suspicion on yourself until it was too late for us to make an effective lynch against you! Be warned though, that next time, I'm not going to hesitate if I find you suspicious!!!
Anyhow, I think the biggest mistake the Humans made this game was homing in on Liggy too much. We wasted so much time being paranoid about him and we lost Liggy (and even me!!! :( )as a result of his martyrdom power without even allowing its effect to take place. So as a point of reference, if multiple experienced Players are telling you similar input, chances are that you should trust them and not go on your own ramblings.
Anyhow, even though I didn't like the reason for being lynched, I think this game went quite well! Can't say I ever really suspected him! Seems to me that there's a growing trend of quiet Wolves on NSM, so I think that's something everyone should take note of.
All in all, this was a fun game! Great job, everyone!
also zunawe you revived me out of love right
does this mean i won too because im technically a whitewalker now
Quote from: The Boy Who Cried Wolf on June 14, 2013, 07:14:23 AMI was feeling really good this game until I then found out my wolf succession list was FAKE. Why do wolves get fake info?
I told you there was a chance your information was inaccurate! A lot of other players got fake info as well.
QuoteTo many people new the real list, it was so unfair. There was like no way we could become king with guards and shizzle.
Two people knew the real list. You would have become King if you had disguised your claimed role on night 1. The King was never guarded.
Despite my sass, you did really get screwed over pretty hard in this game (and I don't feel good about it) which will be examined more thoroughly in the player analysis!
Quote from: Mashi on June 14, 2013, 07:26:33 AMalso zunawe you revived me out of love right

Pshh, why else?
Actually, you were just one of the few players I felt safe trying to revive. We had seered you, so I knew there was no power that prevented me from reviving you, and you weren't a very likely burn target.
I knew Mashi's role too :(
Was planning on telling you guys once the phase was over (and I got on my laptop).
Nah, Toby, we just didn't read the rules carefully enough. It was pretty clear in post #2 that there was a good chance your intel was fake, as FireArrow pointed out in the chat just before your lynch. I take full responsibility; I wasn't paying enough attention the first few phases.
I knew it was a rule Thiannon, but I had already said to Liggy I had the list :/. I thought maybe the wolves would have been real.
I literally got over 375 PMs this game, so Part 2 is taking a while. I'll edit it into this post momentarily.
Okay, that was a mess. Here are what I believe the power usages were. Send me a PM if it looks like there were any inaccuracies.

375??? O_O
Game actions are up. Phase-by-phase summary and analysis will appear next section. Some things I thought were particularly funny about this though:
- The wolves prevent BDS from killing FSM, another human, on Night 4.
- Night 3, the wolves wanted FSM to look suspicious by not hitting him with Winter. He was hit by a torch instead, since his guard was nullified, and everybody was confused.
- Every time the wolves use "Chilling Insight" on somebody, that person dies soon after.
Oh, and this whole sequence:
QuoteBubbles spies on Zunawe
Bubbles is robbed by the wolves
Bubbles is stabbed by davy
Bubbles is wolfed
Wait a minute... did the war actually break out, or not, because I died? :-\
So I was robbed, stabbed, then eaten by wolves? what a night
I used my damaging attack on FSM on night 3, I'm guessing a wolfing has a higher priority then that?
QuoteBubbles spies on Zunawe

Quote from: Bubbles7689 on June 14, 2013, 09:10:54 PMSo I was robbed, stabbed, then eaten by wolves? what a night
Snitches get stitches.
BDS: Yes, war did break out, but it was ultimately inconsequential.
And speaking of inconsequential, I might as well address this now. A lot of people were wondering how the wolves were able to revive if Toby had the zombification powers. Well, in an eleventh hour balancing decision on Night 1, after consulting with two other experienced TWG players, we agreed that it would make more sense to pool the wolf powers, so that if one of them died, the entire team wouldn't be permanently crippled.
But yeah, it didn't really matter throughout the game, since none of Toby's powers were really used, and if they were then nothing really came of it.
Part 3: Game AnalysisJust read the sections you think will interest you. I understand this is a lot of information. I bolded the stuff I think is really neat or useful if you just want to glance through this post.
3.1 - SummaryAlthough I was quite frustrated at quite a few points during this game, I'm ultimately very pleased with how it played out. And considering it was NSM's
first mystery game, it was a smashing success.
I think it might even have been the most active game on this site, and it was certainly the most active one on this site behind the scenes, as I received (literally) hundreds of PMs. And one of the best things was that I think that the team that won was the one that deserved it. Of course, the game also had its fair share of problems, most of them lying with me. The three most prevalent of these were the balance issues, my unfamiliarity with mystery games, and my mistakes. I don't think any of these had a large impact on the outcome of the game, and I will discuss each of them in turn below. First though, how the game was made.
3.2 - DesignA lot of people were curious, both during the game and after, how I came up with the roles for this game. Well, I'm finally explaining it. I determined right off the bat that I wanted a game with 3 wolves and 11 humans; 14 players seemed like a nice number, and Maestro's had taken a while to fill with 16. Making it bigger might initially seem like a good idea in hindsight, but by the end of the game, I had run out of stand-by players to replace the actual players with! I also decided that the wolves should be the White Walkers from the show, refered to in the books as "the Others." I went with White Walkers since it sounds cooler.
In addition to the 14 players with White Walker wolves, I decided that the game should focus on the four most important "Great Houses" from the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire: Stark, Lannister, Baratheon and Targaryen. There are a ton of other houses and characters, but the game was relatively small and if I had done that, there would be like one player per house. Boring. I also thought it would be neat to have an unaligned player to mix things up.
From there, I generated a list of 28 characters, 6 from the major houses and 4 unaligned. With eleven human roles, I thought 1 unaligned and 10 from the houses was perfect. I randomly picked the two houses that would have 3 players (Lannister and Targaryen) and the other houses would have 2 players (Stark and Baratheon). At this point,
I just randomly selected names from the list of characters that would be in the game; 3 Lannisters, 3 Targaryens, 2 Starks, 2 Baratheons, and 1 unaligned. Then I built the roles around those characters. For instance, Davos Seaworth is a smuggler. So he gets a "Smuggle" power that allows him to bring items into the game if nobody is watching him. Sometimes I'd come up with a great power for a character that wouldn't really mesh with the other powers in the game... I would just throw it out and start over. If anybody read the character descriptions (which I don't think anyone did), you'll see that the descriptions very frequently give away what the character's powers are likely to be. Just read Jon Snow's entry if you don't believe me.
Once all the roles included in the game had awesome and unique powers that worked well with each other (for instance, Jorah Mormont's "Dishonesty" power plays against Tywin Lannister's "Legacy" power and Eddard Stark's "Head of House" power),
I had to give the wolves something to work with. Rather than just giving them roles identical to those of the human with unique powers that fit their characters, I gave them a toolbox of very powreful moves to create their own roles which they would claim. If they could just claim the role listed in their PM, it takes all the fun out of a mystery game. I think the team that wins a mystery should be the team with the best liars, and with a wide variety of powers, they're free to make up powers they think are believable.
One issue a lot of mysteries have was that the wolves aren't sure what to claim. That's the reason I designed the "false roles" system. Now they can claim characters that are just as innocent as all the others without people being suspicious. This would also give the wolves an idea of what regular human roles looked like, to help them with their false claims and making up powers to fit those roles. The big list of descriptions (which, regrettably, not a single player read) would give them hints as to what their powers should be like as well. The regular humans were given false roles as well. That was a less smart move, as it really just confused everyone, but I envisioned them using those to create discussion without the risk of giving themselves away. Also, similarly to the wolves, it told them what the other roles might have been like.
The false roles were generally a lot less believable than the real ones, just because I was running out of ideas. Although their are a few gems, in general they progressively became more and more absurd. Look at Lysa Arryn's and Mirri Maz Duur's overpowered roles for instance. When I was done with the wolf powers, roles and false roles, I had a game overflowing with cool mechanics: health (which I'd stolen from a Manti game, actually), global effects (Winter and War), false information (knowledge from fake roles, Tyrion Lannister's "Trickery"), disguises (the Wolf disguises), item creation (Gregor Clegane's "Pillage" and Davos Seaworth's "Smuggle), even marriage. Just adding up the powers on both sides, things were probably about even. But when different powers were used in different ways, or in concert with one another, the scales began to tip. My failure to look at every use or combination of roles was one of the main problems with this game, which will be discussed in full in the following section!
3.3 - Balance IssuesA lot of people won't like this, but
I'm fairly certain that the game was balanced heavily in favor of the humans. They managed to prevail anyway, but that was due to some incredibly smart strategic thinking, as well as a few lucky moves as well.
Here are the four key issues that I think led to this difference, listed from least to most significant:- Human ignorance frequently proved a player's humanity. This really just boils down to human players being confused and asking questions about the White Walkers. Do they know each other? How do disguises work? How do I tell if I'm a wolf? Do White Walkers get a fake role too? That last question was asked by FSM, and I'm surprised it didn't prove his humanity right then and there. But humans asking questions like these that the White Walkers would actually know often led players to be considered more or less human. This is a problem that's pretty common, actually. In the future, I'll try and make things as clear as possible, but the wolves should also take advantage of this by feigning ignorance as well. Additionally, I'll just yell at anybody stupid or foolish enough to ask a question that's been answered in the first or second post of a topic.
- Humans not having strong incentives to hurt one another. One of the cornerstones of this game was the rivalry between the houses. I had intended it to be worthwhile in a lot of cases for a human to hurt another human. In a lot of cases it would be worth it. The most clear-cut example is Daenerys Targaryen's "Vengeance" power, where she would kill a player then earn a revive and more damage. However, these incentives were apparently not quite strong enough. The players refused to hurt one another, which is why the health bars were so static for the first parts of this game. Liggy also made this problem a bit worse, as he united the teams on day 1. But since the humans wouldn't hurt one another, the wolves didn't have opportunities to make quick kills or to gain an edge from the humans killing each other.
- Wolf powers not being flexible enough. Although the powers the wolves were given are undeniably quite formidable, they are very simple. Hurt. Heal. Revive. Nullify. Steal. While the humans had very specific and very creative powers. Do fire damage/burn a corpse, smuggle an item randomly, guard a player with a chance of killing yourself. Although the wolves could be creative with their powers, they couldn't possibly combine the powers they have into a role as believable as the ones the humans received.
- Human roles being confirmable. By far the biggest cause of inbalance in this game. The human powers were so specific and so believable, anybody with a generic power should have been lynched immediately. On top of that, everybody had two role PMs. They could see that, based on these roles, everybody should have incredibly unique abilities. I think that if the humans had all agreed to post their powers in the thread on night 1 and to prove they had those powers that night, the humans would have won in 3 day phases. There are just so many powers the wolves couldn't possibly have as well. Davos Seaworth's "Loyalty" power, which targets a Baratheon and puts them on the throne, dethroning and damaging the previous King. Jorah Mormont's "Advise" power, which delivers information to another player, rather than themselves. Margaery Tyrell's "Bounty of the Reach," enabling her to kill herself in order to fully heal every other player. It's just crazy stuff, and I feel like the humans didn't focus on this stuff nearly enough! Maybe I just have a twisted view of all of this, since I watched the game unfold from above, but what did you people actually believe Zunawe and Thiannon's powers were?
3.4 - Unfamiliarity with Mystery GamesI think instead of doing a write-up of this here, especially since I already have a section dedicated to my mistakes and balancing errors, I'll just write a small guide for the Hosting Guide topic. The second post has been reserved for too long anyway.
3.5 - Host MistakesThere were a lot of them. There are three main ones. Well, I'm counting the Night 3 debacle all as one.
First there were two changes I made in the final hours of Night 1. I saw a few powers that simply needed to be changed in order to preserve the game's balance. I ultimately don't think that any of these changes had a major impact on the game, but who knows. The first was that
I pooled the wolf powers. I was worried that if the disguiser was lynched on day 1, the wolves would be crippled beyond recovery. I discussed the idea of pooling their powers with two other TWCs on another website, and they both said it seemed fine... or at least, not unethical. The other change I made was two FSM's/Stannis Baratheon's "Armada" power, which would guard 3 players from damage on one night phase. I saw that this would become incredibly powerful as the player population dwindled, so I set a "use by night 3" deadline on it. These are mistakes since... well, you shouldn't change your game once it's already started.
Then there was what I'm going to call Liggygate. Liggy's power was a mess. It was the last real role I added to the game, and I clearly didn't think it through, since Liggy was constantly bombarding me with questions I didn't know the answers to. When did marriage come in the line of succession? What happens if I kill myself and marry on the same night? What happens if I marry somebody and they die the same night? The list goes on. Eventually he asked me if he could meet his additional win condition instead by becoming King. Since the game was designed to prevent him from ever becoming King, I said "sure, why not?" But I had actually made a small error with Mashi's PM. Mashi was Davos Seaworth, and he had a power that I thought would put the next Baratheon in line on the Iron Throne if he targeted a Baratheon. However, his actual role PM said that it would put the target Baratheon on the throne if he targeted a Baratheon. So since Liggy could Marry Davos making him a Baratheon, Davos could use that power on him and make Margaery King. It was a big mess, and it only happened since I thought it would be funny to say Liggy could do something when I knew it would fail. I was totally wrong though, and it would have worked. I had to go back on my word and tell Liggy that he couldn't win through becoming King. Eventually he gave up on marrying entirely and killed himself, I guess!!!
Finally there was all the horrible stuff that happened on Night 3. I made like 5 errors in that update. First, I forgot to kill Liggy. Second, I had allowed davy to die even though as Gregor Clegane, his "Unfeeling" power should have kept him alive. Third and Fourth, I forgot to send PMs to various players, and finally I had completely messed up the damage that should have been dealt to a few players. I did a lot of awful stuff when hosting this game, but I blame the circumstances completely for this phase. It took me 20 minutes to post the update once I'd written it, and the internet was too horrible for me to cross reference actions with PMs I'd received.
Oh, wait, I just remembered another. "Chilling Insight" wasn't supposed to give the wolves the false role as well as the actual one. Oops. Oh well.
3.6 - Phase by Phase Summary - Names are bolded so all the selfish members can just read the stuff that concerns them! This is all from memory so I'm sure it'll be full of mistakes, but this is how I would summarize the events of the game. If I didn't include you in one section, it's very possible you were extremely influential still, so don't get all offended. But I'm trying to look at the people who started lynches/got lynched/used powers/were targeted by powers.
NIGHT 1
The night that started it all! Quite a bit happened in the first phase of this game (to my utter delight), both in the thread and behind the scenes. There are big events that unfolded this phase: the ones surrounding fank009 and the ones surrounding Liggy/Toby.
First, I want to applaud fank009 for taking such initiative in the beginning, although it ultimately exploded in his face. You see, I mentioned in the "balance issues" that humans being confused by the game mechanics would often be proven to be human in the very beginning of the game. fank009 recognized this instantly and tried to forge an alliance with Olimar12345 and FireArrow. Unfortunately, they were not quite so trusting of him, since as new players, perhaps his own reasons for trusting them weren't totally clear. Anyway, they began to talk to other players about it, and eventually this behind-the-scenes chattering grew into a pretty big suspicion of him. His hand was forced in the chat, and he sort of admitted to being Daenerys Targaryen. The wolves Thiannon and Zunawe (who were both familiar with the source material) suspected that Targaryen players would have fire-based abilities, and then the wolves together (The Boy Who Cried Wolf included!) that he should be wolfed. This proved to be a very lucky move for them, as fank009 was undoubtedly the most powerful player in the game!
And then Liggy, who is typically inactive, decided to play extremely well and be outrageously active for no real reason! As a refresher, he was Margaery Tyrell, the unaligned human with regular win conditions as well as a non-overriding bonus win condition. He had to marry the role who was King. Not the player. The role. And if he succeeded, he would win and not have to do anything else for the rest of the game. So he comes out, talks about how human his sacrificial power is, and sweeps everyone off their feet with his big, charismatic text. I don't really know why everyone trusted him enough to give him their alignments, but hey, whatever works! At the same time, he got Yugi to guard him. The Boy Who Cried Wolf had received a (fake) succession list in his wolfy role PM, and tried to use this information to get into Liggy's good graces. He also claimed Varys, which would backfire completely once he saw the real succession list, and there was really nothing he could have done to prevent that (whoops).
Other stuff that happened this phase: FSM's role is rebalanced so that he has to use Armada earlier than Day 3. The Wolves' roles are rebalanced so that powers are pooled. shadowkirby and k-NiGhT both post once talking about how active they will be before completely forgetting to use their powers and getting issued warnings. The wolves also use Chilling Insight on Olimar, learning his powers, false role, and the real succession list.
DAY 1
Pretty early on in this phase, shadowkirby was replaced by davy and k-NiGhT was replaced by TheZeldaPianist275. Which is good, since TZP's role, Jon Snow, became King at the beginning of this phase! And wow, was this a neat day phase to watch unfold. There were so many lynch targets with a ton of support before the lynch would swing to another player. It started out with Olimar12345, who seemed to be a good pick for somebody who would target fank009, as he knew fank's role. But his sheer obliviousness seemed to protect him (no offense, this is your first game (in forever?) and it's the most complex one NSM has ever seen). FSM-Reapr stood up and protected him though. Then people started to look at both FSM and Liggy.
This is also the phase where Liggy, isntead of posting all the house alignments, elected to just tell people who their housemates were. This sort of broke the game, as I touched upon in the previous section of this post-game. The game was designed for humans to hurt one another, but they were being boring and peaceful and stuff. Screw you Liggy!
Toby, who know had the real succession list now, sent Liggy a PM saying "uhh... oops this is the real list" or something. It made Liggy suspicious! And then, since he claimed Varys the previous phase, TZP and FSM began to suspect him as well. If he were Varys, who is higher than TZP's Jon Snow on the succession list, he would have been King. But he wasn't King! So a big lynch started against Toby. I guess he could have lied his way out of it by saying that Varys was unable to become King or something, but he was basically blindsided by this, since there was no way he could have known that Varys was high on the real succession list. If he had disguised, he would probably have been King for most of the game! Oh well, that was poor game design rather than poor decision-making from him, at least as far as the Varys issue goes. He definitely shouldn't have shared that fake list with Liggy though. So yeah, TBWCW was lynched.
There was a big hub-bub in the chatroom about it, but I don't want to read through a million chatlogs! Good job to everyone who was there though! You made a good phase a great phase.
NIGHT 2
Lot's of neat stuff happens on this phase now that all the players are active, but there still isn't a ton of interaction between the players which was disappointing. A lot of this is due to the peaceful nature of the players, who don't really like making bold moves that may go wrong (looks-good-in-post-game-syndrome as some would call it). But the rest is due to Liggy's smelliness. So ultimately, this phase was just a long list of actions that didn't have a lot to do with one another. So I'll just copy and paste them I guess! Or maybe I'll put them in list/sentence order, yeah...
TZP uses Watcher on Liggy, finding out who Liggy targeted on Night 2 (nobody), davy Pillages a Stark village, getting a 1-heart-heal item, Mashi Smuggles another mediocre good, gets a shield (self-guard item), FSM uses a Dissent, adding a message into the update post, Zunawe, a wolf, disguises as Jaime Lannister, Thiannon, a wolf, disguises as Catelyn Stark, the wolves use Chilling Insight on Mashi, learning all the information contained in his role PM, The wolves burn fank009's corpse, the wolves activate Winter, to strike the following night phase, alerting Yugi, Olimar12345 is wolfed.
DAY 2
And from here on out, the human's days of being great are over! the lynch this phase, for whatever reason, was Mashi. I don't know how it happened! Thiannon actually messaged me saying he was scared Mashi was going to get him lynched. Hilarious!
Anyway, tons of people still suspect Liggy at this point. I think this was likely because he didn't emphasize enough that he was a human with an additional win condition. This would probably inspire him to commit his super fun Night 3 actions, which I actually can't wait to talk about. I just reread the phase, and found the reason Mashi was lynched. According to TZP: " FireArrow and FSM both know why. Olimar literally said the night he died, "If I die, it was Mashi." There's too much pointing to Big M to be ignored, including some stuff I can't take the time to write up right now."
Fascinating stuff. Maybe if TZP had explained why Mashi was suspicious, people would have been able to point out what might have been wrong with that reasoning. But now we'll never know! This action should have given BDS some more Pentoshi Dollars, but I forgot until after Day 4, whoops!
NIGHT 3
This was the first really fun Night Phase. It wasn't clear at first, since the update was positively horrific, and I really wish I could go back in time and kick myself in the head for allowing it to happen, but whatever. Let's discuss what should have happened though.
With the exception of one hilarious slip-up, the wolves wrecked this night phase. FSM wasn't extremely secretive about his guarding ability, and so the wolves used their single nullification on him this phase. That was going to guard both him and TZP. But with it blocked, TZP and several other players were subjected to the wrath of Winter that the wolves had activated the previous phase. This icy storm did hit the following players: davy, Zunawe, Thiannon, TZP, Bubbles, BDS. The wolves wolfed FireArrow and attempted to sneak a second kill in by using their two-heart damage power, Icy Spear, on davy. Unfortunately, they targeted the single player who was immune to non-lethal damage. At the same time, TZP threw a torch at FSM to see if he was a wolf. On top of all of this, Thiannon and Zunawe disguise themselves as Stark and Lannister respectively, and Yugi uses his power to determine if Thiannon is actually a Stark. And of course, it works.
Meanwhile, Liggy was extremely frustrated that nobody would tell him TZP's role. That was literally all he needed to win. He became so frustrated, he just decided to kill himself, without even trying to marry anyone. What makes this even more hilarious was that he had told me a prior phase that he was 90% sure that TZP was Jon Snow. And guess what? TZP was Jon Snow. All he needed to do was send in his guess, and he would have won the game alongside the wolves! Thiannon was actually contemplating sending Liggy an anonymous email saying "tZp Is JoN sNoW ~tHe WoLvEs," but decided not to. Such is the tragedy of Liggy and Margaery Tyrell. Even though nobody had any reason to deny him his win, they did it anyway and it drove the poor guy to kill himself.
So when the update came, everyone was confused. Not just because of my mistakes, but FSM thought the guard should have worked, the wolves thought that FSM shouldn't have been damaged, everyone was confused as to why Yugi and davy were the only ones not affected by Winter, and it was just a hilarious time all around. Jolly good fun.
DAY 3
This is the aftermath of the awesome Night 3. The wolves "hurt themselves, not Yugi" ploy is a smashing success, so even though he confirmed Thiannon as a Stark and even though he now has an incredible vigi power, he gets lynched. So awesome.
NIGHT 4
Another terrific phase, and it was ultimately the won that swung the game in the wolves favor, although the clutch steal they made would likely have been inconsequential.
davy takes a chance and pillages the Lannister Seaport, hurting him two hearts. He only had a 1/3 chance of getting an item that would actually help him (a revive) so I wasn't really surprised when random.org decided not to let a human miracle happen. davy also heals TZP one heart, since the King should be healthy, I guess. It's funny that davy chose to weaken himself this way, since if he hadn't taken the chance, he wouldn't have been killed by the wolves on Night 5.
The real fun of this phase comes when you look at BDS. Now that he was rolling in Pentoshi Dollars, his role's currency, he could do tons of neat stuff. He decides he's going to use it to kill FSM. Unfortunately, he is robbed this very phase, and stealing comes before item usage. So even though he was going to kill another human player, the wolves didn't let him and killed him. But not before he could also activate a war, which would cause damage in the following Night Phase to be doubled.
I mentioned that this steal didn't really matter. That's because, even though the money enabled the wolves to kill 3 players on Night 5, if BDS had killed FSM, they only would have needed to kill 1, since the thrall revival would have made the game 2:2 on Day 5.
DAY 4
Thiannon really hadn't done that much wrong (not that he did a whole lot in the thread in general), but pretty much everyone saw this lynch coming, essentially through process of elimination. But he and Zunawe were basically in the clear at this point anyway, so I don't think he cared that much. Oh wait, he actually cared a lot, and thought everyone's reasons for lynching him were dumb, blah blah blah. I'm sure you'll get an earful once he sees this!!
Night 5
The final night phase! Everyone just pulled all their powers out, since the game was pretty much done at this point, one way or another, and everyone knew it. Zunawe healed himself, did one heart of damage to davy (killing him), did two hearts of damage to FSM (killing him). Bubbles decides to use her Spy power, just for fun I guess, and then gets robbed, stabbed and wolfed. Then as icing on the wolf victory cake, Zunawe revives Mashi as a demon zombie, winning the game handily. The King, TZP, got the royal honor of watching every single one of his people die, which is as good an ending as a game like this could possibly hope for!
Oh, the false roles were already preplanned to be false? That makes sense... on night one I was thinking how stupid the game would be if my real role was lysa arryn... 2 deaths a night + random damage everywhere.
Thanks for typing all that out as well, it's really informative (at least for my knowledge-less brain.) :P
QuoteHuman ignorance frequently proved a player's humanity
Definetly an inbalance their... I must say I exploited this Night one, (The reason why i started the whole "Secret alliance")
The stupid thing is...
No one else picked up on it. Have a look at day one again, And you can see that No one else acted upon it :/
There were other issues, that i agree with, that (if a sane man had control) would have made it OP for humans,
While Wolves had really over the top powers, It all balanced out in the fact they were too simple (Ran into this mistake of being asked to do more as a wolf before...)
It was just a missed opportunity for humans, There were signs of an easy game, And i should have acted more on it and tipped my "alliance" a bit more with it.
But eh, We all make mistakes...
lol FireArrow XD
@Fank and Bird: I actually don't think that was a huge imbalance. A reasonably talented wolf could immediately notice this and play dumb. Although I suppose with Fire and Olimar, two new players, it pretty much confirmed theirs. Am I correct that you started a short-lived alliance with them, Fank?

I wouldnt say it was short lived, the two of them were close all game (from what i read)
But yes that is correct.
I dunno, TZP. I've been lynched as a human for not reading the rules properly because people assumed that was my playing dumb as a wolf. You're right: it's a leverage point a good wolf should be familiar with, but at best it's frequently untenable and at worst it's just a lame way to play.
Bird, quit blasting your game; it was awesome! I'm sure Mozart's earliest sonatas weren't his favourites either.

then I get wolfed night 3, the wolves targeted our alliance! o:
I want some moar post game
Hopefully before the next game
(speaking bout post game... I have some things, Ill get to them later)
I was telling Thiannon this last night when he was bugging me. I'll probably be able to finish everything up on Wednesday night. Sorry about the delay, I feel bad about it. :(
It's okay, Bird, it makes the wait more exciting!!!

Too exciting!

I was much more polite than Bird is letting on here!
He kept calling me the f-word.
Also, something else I remembered: why the heck was everyone copying and pasting their role PMs!?!?! That's explicitly against rule number 1 (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=956.0)! I know it's a mystery game and the rules are bent in some places, but seriously, that's not okay! I would have yelled at/banned everyone the moment they did it, but that would have confirmed their roles which would have made the game fall apart. And I guess enough time has passed now that I'm not that mad about it, especially since none of the humans paid attention to these perfect replications of my syntax and vocabulary. But yeah, don't do that. It's the worst thing you can do in a TWG.

I was thinking the same thing! When ever I told someone my role/powers, I made sure to paraphrase and not copypaste.
I didn't copypaste I typed everything precisely like in the role pm to simplify the formatting
now you cant blame me for anything
I have a lot of criticism, but considering my poor performance and lack of experience, I don't think I'm in any place to give it.
Updated this post (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=5657.msg216616#msg216616) with phase summaries.
Looking back, this game was kind of awesome. Especially Nights 3, 4, and 5. The days were lackluster after Day 1, but that's okay since enough neat stuff happened in this game to make me extremely grateful I had the opportunity to host it. Player analyses coming next (finally)!
Best parts:
All of Night 3
Wolves blocking BDS's human kill
Davy weakening himself enough to be killed and not getting anything good out of it, especially after getting no item on Night 3.
Liggy killing himself when he could have won
Bubbles getting wtfpwnd again. Hilarious!
Epic phase-by-phase analysis, Bird! And this coming from the man who claims to have invented phase-by-phase analysis. Yeah, I wasn't too concerned about the D4 lynch, but I was still annoyed it happened. People didn't do a very good job articulating the case against me! But their instincts were good, so props to them.
Now that I know the big picture I feel so tiny. ::)
Night 1, I didnt feel like i was in general trouble for day 1, (like i said, If i was suspicious, Wolves would have seen that and would have gone to lynch me day 1... regardless if i had fire or not...)
I think i might have slipped on this line... (from what i can find...)
"01:05:41: <fank009> "and fank009 says that a certain Player also shares that type of benefit." -I said that a role exiisted"
There was nothing else that I did, That (should have) leaked to the wolves...
Eh, Cest la vie, I still didnt play night one well.
Anyway
List of things missed
Just some things that i thought were missed by everyone,
-FSMs Conversation with me and it being a possible scenario to fank being wolfed
-Birds message from FSM at the end of day 1 (AND HE WAS STILL No.1 Suspicion)
-Yugis general "scum telling" (or maybe thats just me???)
-Davy's "fank was Burned by the wolves comment" (how did he know???)
-General "wheres the wolves revive"??? (why hadnt wolves brought a thrall back??)
(not a long list but yeah...)
Bring on the Player analysis- I want to know how bad i did xD
Thiannon, you're such a gentleman!
Quote from: FireArrow on June 20, 2013, 08:16:16 PMNow that I know the big picture I feel so tiny. ::)
Well I guess I captured the spirit of the show and book series well then. With legitimately hundreds of characters, each one's actions are like a drop in the ocean.
Plus everyone dies!
Yeah, Bird, you really did. This is probably the best-managed game I've seen yet, even with that Night 3 update mix-up. Excellent job.
Definitely, I'm almost scared to play TWG again as I don't think any other game can live up to this.
Part 4: Player Analysis
Ordered by wolves and humans, from shortest-living to longest-lasting.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf – How does it feel to get totally screwed over in not one but two games hosted by me, occurring immediately after one another? My guess? Not good. With the exception of sending Liggy a list that you probably shouldn't have (although it didn't make a difference really) you played great on Night 1 and Day 1. You just happened to claim a role that there was no way you could have known would become King. You got unlucky. And you were lynched for it. Sorry about that, man!
Thiannon – A bit disappointing to be honest! Maybe I just expect too much of you since you basically invented TWG (you're old enough anyway! ;) ), but I feel like you could have done better! You were probably right to get upset at the reasons you were being lynched, but I don't feel like you did a lot to make yourself seem very human throughout the game. You seemed very passive. It's a shame, you were so excited about coming up with a believable human role when you got your PM, but that sort of fell by the wayside, it seems. That said, the wolves as a team, did an outstanding job with their power usages, and your performance didn't prevent the team from winning in the slightest. In fact, it looks like you did everything you needed to in order to secure a win, and nothing more. Don't let this be your last TWG though, please.
Zunawe – You did a really great job this game. I think the number of people who were surprised that you were the last wolf can attest to that. Through a combination of being in the right place at the right time, making great power usages and acting as cool as a cucumber in both the chat and the thread, nobody saw you coming. Hopefully they learn to watch out for you in the future! Great job.
---------------------------------
Fank009 – I discussed this a bit in the phase-by-phase summaries, but I'll go into more detail here. If everybody here was a perfectly logical player, you would have played a perfect game. It should have been okay for you to tell your role and information to FireArrow and Olimar12345 since they were both human. However, despite having human roles, players are still controlled by humans. They began to suspect you, even though you made logical choices. And that suspicion caused you to become very prominent on Night 1, which is generally something you want to avoid when you have the most powerful role in the game! I can't remember if you were wolfed due to the wolves speculating you had fire powers, or if it was slipped that you had a revive, but either way, it cut what could have been a stellar performance quite short.
Olimar12345 – It looks like you had a lot of trouble getting your bearings when the game began, which is pretty understandable seeing how absurdly complex it was. And honestly, it probably worked out to your advantage. When you said that you didn't know if you were a wolf or not, it clued a lot of players (such as fank009) in to the fact that you were, in fact, a human. This, and likely the fact that you were just an all-around safe wolfing target, led to you being wolfed on Night 2. I don't know if this was your first game or not; it was clearly your first game in a long time though, and I think that given the circumstances, you did a good job of being active and trying to figure stuff out, even if that effort was a short-lived one. Plus you had a great death post!
Mashi – I was really surprised that you were lynched on Day 2. I thought the typical NSM pattern was that everybody would suspect you, then you'd suddenly start being active and making insightful posts. Apparently the reason you were lynched is that Olimar was going to use an allegiance-determining power on you, and that if he died, you were a wolf. I actually don't even think Olimar sent in the power. Anyway, since you were away or inactive, and since the reasons you were lynched were behind the scenes, there wasn't a lot you could do about it! It seemed like you had been working some stuff behind the scenes, and I know you were communicating with Liggy. It's a shame for you that Day 2 turned out the way it did, but thanks for playing while you could!
FireArrow – I think this was your first game, and if it was, you did a really great job. Even if it wasn't your first game, you did a good job. You were consistently active in both the chatroom and the thread, and were sending PMs to people very often. There's still room for improvement now. I think a lot of the time, you just went with the flow, which is fine. Especially looking at the lynches, since you were never really in a position to influence them (either through gravitas or looking human). But you could have come up with a few other creative tactics! You definitely didn't have the most useful role, but it was far from useless. You could have used Wit to determine if a player claiming Stark was really a Stark. If they were, your power refreshes and you heal them, and you're both better off. If not, you potentially find a wolf. That's just a suggestion though; the point is, there's lots of room for planning and creativity in this game, which is something I hope to see when you participate in future games!
Liggy – Ahahaha, man... what else needs to be said really. You were so close, and just gave up! I think that if you had sent in a name on the night you killed yourself, there was a 70% chance it would have been the right one and you would have won alongside the wolves. What would have better a better "screw you" to the humans who denied you information than that? Ahh, well. You did a terrific job this game besides that. Your arguments were awesome, and the way you organized all the human houses was very well-done. I didn't see something like that coming at all, so I have to say that I'm impressed!
Yugi – I feel like you sort of faded into the background this game, especially in the second half. Most of the time, you're eager to come up with ideas, or at least spam ever now and then! This game when people began to suspect you, you gave up! Even though you had just earned a vigilante power which the humans could have used against the White Walkers! If you had been more vocal in your defense, the game might have gone to the humans.
BlackDragonSlayer – Too little, too late! A seer at the beginning of a game is infinitely more useful than a seer in the last phases of a game. At the beginning, you get to use that information for every day phase; at the end, you only get to use it for one. And so, for a player as paranoid as you, I'm surprised you took so long to use any of your abilities! I did make a few mistakes here. I should have been more clear that money was an item, and that you got money when Mashi was lynched. But even considering that, you could have checked allegiances earlier in the game to catch wolves or damage players to see what happen. Lack of exploratory power-usage was sort of a theme among humans this game, and you're not a exception! On top of that, I feel like you, in addition to Yugi, sort of faded into the background, despite the fact that you had a really neat set of abilities. You should be less hesitant and make stuff happen!
davy – You had the disadvantage of joining late, yet did great anyway. Although your suspicions weren't always on-the-mark, you did a good job of being active and making plans with other players behind the scenes. Eventually that (as well as a stupid mistake on my part) led to people believing you were human. So you got wolfed. Great job though! Oh, also, sorry about random.org screwing your powers so much!
Bubbles7689 – I think you did a good job this game, and improved a bit from your previous human games. You were a very important part of the Toby lynch, as you questioning why everyone was voting for FSM was great especially. You had sort of a rough set of powers to make use of, especially once everybody decided that hurting other humans was a bad idea (even though it so wasn't, since a lot of your powers involved infiltration and making powers fail. Oh well. I think you definitely could improve a bit more by being more vocal and pushy regarding suspicions you may have, rather than just stating them and fading back into the shadows.
FSM-Reapr – Terrific performance all through the game. In hindsight, you were probably the best-equipped human for this game, besides fank009 as Daenerys. But you did a good job with them anyway. You used declaration well and your guard would have been perfectly timed had the wolves not predicted and nullified it. And you were an all-star in the thread as well, defending yourself and Olimar very eloquently, and being one of the primary reasons that Toby was found out and lynched. I think the only reason people started to suspect you again, later in the game, is because you weren't around to talk some sense into them. I'm somewhat surprised anyone was suspicious of you at all though, considering your declaration and confusion about wolf false roles at the start of your game. Oh well! Thanks for playing.
TheZeldaPianist275 – I don't know how much TWG experience you have, but you had a lot of responsibility set on your shoulders this game. Once every player arbitrarily decided that only a human could be King on Night 1 (which is way silly), you became the "alliance leader" and were forced to make a lot of decisions for the human team. Some of these ended up being great; you worked with FSM and helped the Toby lynch come together. Some of them were not; the Mashi lynch stands out in particular, and the Yugi lynch to a lesser degree. Your use of the powers (belonging to you as well as other players) at your disposal could also have been better. I think you sort of wasted your torch. Despite all this, which only seems bad in hindsight, you were organized, active and efficient as a leader, and I hope you play in future games!

Maybe taking some time before doing this post-game was a good thing. I sometimes talk smack about NSM TWG and how everyone here is inactive and stuff, but this game may have changed my mind. It was absurdly complex, yet all of the players were more than up to the challenge. Thanks for making something I worked really hard on turn out great!
Oh, I came out of this better then I thought!
If liggy would of waited till the next night to suicide, would the humans have won?
If he wasn't lynched, probably. He might also have saved Yugi from being lynched. You'd have to ask him!
Oh, yeah... Thiannon would of pushed that really hard.
I am an expert on the subject of Liggy and can guarantee Human victory had the Humans not brought Liggy to suicide.
I should have thrown a red herring in there when i thought that i would have been wolfed.
i could have played it better though :/
eh, you learn things from time to time

Probably not, because the reason why I committed suicide was that I was tired of defending myself against frivolous accusations, and I was crushed that I let Mashi die despite the fact I was pretty sure he was human. I really don't think I would have bothered about anything in the game at that point.

I was the only one being frivolous, and at that point in the game I decided to take a U-turn, so maybe it would of gone better than expected?

Well, you only got MVP for your first-half efforts. I decided not to count your inactivity in the second half against you, despite the fact that your nullification could have saved the entire human team on Night 5.
Yeah, except for that, I think FSM deserves MVP. I was definitely in a position to get it, but I kind of wasted it by forgetting about the game a lot after Day 1.
And Zunawe definitely deserves his too. Way to be.
Btw, unless Toby had heard something somewhere, the fank wolfing was a completely random choice. I think the only reason I remember him being chosen was because he's supposedly good.
xD
My reputation surpasses me
That night one, so isnt a good example in games too come
At least i didnt slip
It was me that suggested the Fank wolfing was it not? You guys wanted Olimar first but then Olimar hadn't claimed to Liggy and I was going to seer him. Plus Fank said he had a plan or something.
Just wondering, why was I never replaced?
Nice analysis, Bird! FireArrow should have been human and game MVP, though, in my opinion. He consistently put forth the greatest amount of effort of anyone and his analysis was routinely well thought-out. He missed the mark a bit early by focusing on Liggy and Mashi, but it was clear he was beginning to zero in on us toward the end of Day 2, to the point that we knew he had to die. He did a nice job demonstrating his humanity, as well. FSM did a fine job early but the humans needed him late. There were also inconsistencies in his play that good wolves (i.e. not Zunawe and I!) would have exploited.
I agree with your criticism of me, though! It was a classic Milton Berle game (i.e. we "pulled out just enough to win"). Not a smart play in hindsight, since we nearly did lose and probably should have.

Woah, Thanks! To be honest, I was gonna go after you the next day (which everyone already did), but I never would have suspected Zunawe (I would of then tried to lynch bubbles.) Maybe if I was alive I would of made the connection that you two were the only ones who voted FSM, but I doubt it (my logic of "wolves are gonna try and get FSM lynched" that made me think liggy was human.)

Greg was busy, Jacob never responded, and I'd already told verm about the game, seeing as how there were still two replacements in front of him. Whoops.
Random Comment:
There was a point in the chat that I was talking to FireArrow. Mashi was also in the chat, but was inactive, and I was PMing Thiannon every once in a while. We were talking about roles and who might be who. We had seered Olimar, and his his false role, Robert Baratheon, had a power that told him that the only real Targaryen roles are Viserys and Daenarys. I was confused about whether or not that information was true considering that it's a false role. While explaining this to Thiannon, I copied and pasted the following PM from Bird:
QuoteQuoteI guess I may have misunderstood your explanation slightly. Because Robert Baratheon was a false role, does that mean that his knowledge about the Targaryens is null?
It means you can't be certain whether or not the knowledge was accurate.
Anyway, I thought that Fire had said that he had a revive power earlier, and he said he didn't. I went back up in the chat to find the line that I got the idea from, and highlighted it and pressed Ctrl+C. I then immediately pasted and pressed enter in the chat bar, pasting not the line I thought Fire claimed a revive power in, but the entire quote above about Robert Baratheon's power. As you can imagine, my heart rate basically doubled and I froze. . .
FireArrow had no reaction whatsoever.
Maybe he skimmed the message because it was fairly long. Maybe he missed that I had put anything there at all. Maybe he simply didn't understand the implications. Whatever happened, he mentioned Olimar and kept on talking.
For the next ten minutes I desperately talked to him about whatever I could just trying to push up the message so that it got erased before Mashi got back on to read the chatlog. And Fire, you know how I suggested that you spam messages to erase whatever you had said that you didn't want Mashi to read? Yeah, unfortunately that was actually me hoping that you would do it to help me.
Wait, what quote? I think I completely missed it so I'm gonna go look for it.
Anyways, the reason why I lied about having a revive was to try and get the wolves to wolf me instead of Olimar (so we would know Mashi's role) but when FSM said he would guard him, I dropped it (in hindsight, it looks like I shouldn't have.)
Oh, and Mashi, you idling in chat brought so much unnecessary suspicion to you. The whole reason why Olimar and I suspected you was because of this little incident with us accidentally saying too much stuff, and yugi, and tiny chat... long story.
EDIT: Never mind, you copy-pasted something that was a PM - I completely missed that. >.>
I know the feeling Zunawe!
I played a faction game with Sauce one time and I was pretending to be with his team, copied a log I had with him and instead of sending it to my partner via pm through the chat I accidently posted it in public!!! Luckily Sauce didn't think much of it, he did say he didn't want me to reveal things public incase Liggy saw them (who was my partner) and that really got me going so I did what any normal person would do; I face palmed and turned off my computer.
Reemeeemberrr thiss Saaauccee??? ;)

I apologise for being offensive, but when I'm calling your reasoning ridiculous, there's a reason why. Not to mention that none of you seemed to ever realise that I was miles away from my computer (it seemed to not shut down properly, so much for conserving electricity, whoops!!!) on a 3 day trip despite my mentioning it over and over. I understand that mistakes can be made and (although I was frustrated) I can understand that anyone's being lynched for frivolous reasons is inevitable in this game, but not if said Players who made such a mistake complaisantly blame their target instead of taking blame for their fault. Instead of blaming me, learn from this and recognise that 'idling in a chat' isn't actually suspicious in such circumstances. And that when someone (or at least me) calls someone's reasoning ridiculous, it's not an intimidation trick, but my honest opinion, despite my Role.
And I don't want you to feel like I'm singling you out either, since I've even reacted similarly to some of my peers logic in that manner. Such as when I referred to verm verm's (one of my closest friends here) reasoning for finding me suspicious in one game to be ridiculous. But then again, verm verm and I always disagree with each other's thought processes!!!
And Zunawe, you fiend!!! Fortunately for you, I became preoccupied with the mention of fank009's body being burnt and not searching any further.

I agree, my reasoning was stupid, but in this case, it was a bit more complicated then just idling in chat (it was still stupid.) I don't really feel like explaining it the whole story, but the point is ideling in chat brings a lot of stupid suspicion to you (and any at all, even if it doesn't make any sense, is not good!)
