TWG LVII - The Return of Mephistopheles
16 Players:
Beelzebub - Master Wolf - Can Spy on one player's deal each phase, chosen at random. He will be given the Deal ID and the written agreement.
Mammon - Wolf - Debt collector. Can kill any player in the game at any time. Useable only once. His identity will be revealed when he does so.
Belphegor - Brutal Wolf
Leviathan - Wolf - Takes two hits to kill.
Gabriel - Seer (blue)
Raphael - Guardian (silver)
Micheal - Archangel (gold) - Can cancel one player's deal each phase, chosen at random. Doesn't restore the game to any prior state, just cancels the contract and it's prior/associated deal chain, if one exists.
9 Humans (green)
Wolves know each other, Angels know each other.
You thought it was over, didn't you?
I'm here to make another deal with you, but this time the powers that be forced me to change the rules a bit. This time he's sending his own Angels to aid your pathetic existence. However, I am sending my own minions to make sure it is a fair game.
Each player can make a deal with the devil for any reason at any time. You can make a deal for whatever you wish, and I will tell you what it will cost you. I can deny any deal I wish, but I will be kind and tell you why, if it doesn't violate the natural laws of the universe or another contract.
Be creative in your deals, you can get anything your heart desires. There are a few ground rules, however; a few deals that the powers that be will not permit me to make:
- You cannot kill anybody; no insta-lynchings or additional wolfings.
- You cannot violate the laws of time and space, no phase extensions or reductions.
- You cannot resurrect anybody; I'm not in the saving business, death is permanent.
I have a few ground rules of my own that you should understand before making a deal. I may not be holy, but I never said I wasn't fair:
- All deals revolve around fair trade; something must give for you to get.
- I get to decide what is given up for you to get what you want, and you will be told the cost, but not who will pay it or how.
- Once the deal is struck, it is final; you cannot back out of it for any reason.
- You cannot ask for information regarding deals with other players.
- You cannot make a deal to effect, affect, alter, or otherwise cancel another players' natural power. These are the abilities they start out with.
Making a Deal:
If you want to make a deal, all you have to do is call me via PM:
"I, [insert name], wish for [the deal you wish to strike] to be executed in the following manner:
List the details."
I will reply:
"I, Mephistopheles, agree to grant [name] the [deal you wish to make] in the following manner:
Details,
At the cost of [to be determined]."
All you have to do then is reply with the phrase "I agree to this contract" and give your signature, or state that the deal is off. Once the deal is struck it will be given an identification number, randomly generated, and all parties will refer to it as such from that point on.
I advise you to be as clear and detailed as possible, otherwise you will give me the right to execute the deal in any manner I see fitting. You cannot strike the same deal twice, if you back out from an earlier deal you cannot ask me about it later.
Once more to be perfectly clear:
You cannot discuss any aspect of these deals with anybody. You cannot tell anybody that you've struck a deal, the nature of a deal, or question other players about deals they might've had.
All deals with me are confidential; you will not be allowed to discuss your deal or its terms to any other player. Doing so is a breach in contract and I have every right to collect your debt. "What is your debt?" you may ask. In order to play this game, you will agree to sign over your soul to me until this game is completed. You have no obligation to sign this contract, and there will be no penalty against you if don't. All you have to do is sign on the dotted line.
Shall we have this dance again,
Mephistopheles

Last game, you allowed verm loose cannon powers, which caused the death of Blueflower. Assuming that that wasn't a mistake, what do you consider as killing anybody?
Quote from: Mephistopheles on August 01, 2013, 08:58:06 PM- You cannot ask for information regarding deals with other players.
For clarification: This goes for asking information from the host as well as from the players themselves, correct?
Quote from: Mephistopheles on August 01, 2013, 08:58:06 PMYou cannot strike the same deal twice, if you back out from an earlier deal you cannot ask me about it later.
Does 'the same deal' mean a deal with exactly the same details, or can something very similar to an earlier deal also be 'the same deal'. In the latter case, where lies the difference between 'the same deal' and 'very similar but not the same deal'?
for example: I sent you the following PM.
"I, davy, wish for revealing all the roles to me to be executed in the following manner:
Once this deal is struck I will recieve a PM from the host telling me the roles of all players in the game."
But once I see the costs, I decide to back out of it. Afterwards, can I ask you the following deal, or is that considered to be the same deal:
"I, davy, wish for revealing all the roles save mine to me to be executed in the following manner:
Once this deal is struck I will recieve a PM from the host telling me the roles of all players, except my own, in the game."
Since players are now allowed to have multiple deals at a time, can you sent in multiple requests for deals at the same time? If not, what must have happened/how many time must have passed since you requested an earlier deal to be allowed to sent in a new one?
Quote from: Mephistopheles on July 30, 2013, 09:03:58 PMThird: Speculation is fine, once details are thrown out there I break out my Un-Holy Beating StickTM. The only exception is for Beelzebub, but he can only discuss what is told to him, nothing more. I will clarify this more later.
Is it clarification time already?

Note that I will be away monday tuesday and wendsday so that's why I may be inactive then.
You cannot ask for specific players to die. However, death is a rather common price.
Correct.
It always depends on the current state of the game. All things equal, the deal you presented would be the same because you are asking me for the same information in the latter as the former. However, the status quo is constantly changing. So at some point, those deals could be asking for very different things. But it's all up to me, and I love being cryptic.
One deal per PM. However, if you flood my inbox I will overlook some deals due to volume.
Clarification
Beelzebub will be sent the Deal PM as was signed by both parties. He will not be privy to any clarification made before or since by either party, nor will he be told what the deal achieved, if anything. He will also not be told whether or not the deal is still in effect, nulled, fufilled, pending, or any other state of fufillment. He doesn't even get a time stamp of signing. Essentially he will be told "X wants Y to be carried out thusly".
Beyond this, no other player with have access to information of deals other than their own. Exceptions will be monitored by me and I will be the judge of any breaks in contract.
Quote from: Mephistopheles on July 30, 2013, 09:03:58 PMThird: Speculation is fine, once details are thrown out there I break out my Un-Holy Beating StickTM.
What's the definition of 'speculation' and 'details' from the above line in relation to this game?
You can assume if deals are made, and what they may consist of. The moment anything is confirmed or denied by any relevant parties is when there is a breach in contract.
I appologize if my questions are getting on your nerves.

That sounds good to me in theory. I do however wonder why you judged some posts in XLIII as 'not a breach in contract', and what about what FSM and I said was breach of contract.
(I can't quote from locked topics, so this will have to do. Also, I'm not judging any players that are quoted here, I just want to use their posts as examples).
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg176512#msg176512 (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg176512#msg176512)
I just realised that cardflips are not defined (neighter on the PB boards nor on the rules topic). Shouldn't that mean saying what effect cardflips had in that deal (revealing the collor of the player when they die) is a detail about the deal?
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177169#msg177169 (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177169#msg177169)
Waddle says here that previous seerings mean next to nothing. That seems to me as confirming that some deal affected the previous seerings. Why isn't it judged as breach of contract?
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177561#msg177561 (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177561#msg177561)
FSM here says that I did something to him AND that he can't say more. What I deduce from that is the fact that he can't say more means it has to do with a deal, and the fact that he says I did something to him means that I made a deal that targeted him. Why isn't this judged as breach of contract?
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177667#msg177667 (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4956.msg177667#msg177667)
I can see why you had decided that 'guess who made this deal' is not confirming that the player who said that made the deal, but it can so easily be manipulated. It means that every player can say 'guess who made this deal' instead of 'I made this deal' to show the thread that the deal was made by that person.
Lastly, could you quote what sentences/groupes of words/word caused FSM and I to break our contract?'
EDIT: Are you skipping 57?
Most certainly IN. ;D
In, Davy is the question master.
I'll play.
1) This is a mechanic that was in wide use and had a generally agreed definition. One payer needed clarification on a term people were using. Fufilling a deal is not the same as divulging information.
2) Because it never confirmed or denied anything. A player just stated the prior seering were meaningless. He gave no reason as to why and as such didn't breach the contract. Blanket statements are fine, details are not.
3) There were no Deal Made on Night 1. Your point is invalid.
4) There's a difference between being coy and making an assumption. I am the one to judge the difference. Not you.
5) It was a combination of FSM approaching you about something that happened to him, and you admiting that you were the one who did it. If one of you, or both, had just kept silent it would've been fine.
6) Some people have a play style that leaves a large fingerprint, and some of the more veteran players can logically work out "[X] happened, and [Player Y] is the kind of person to make a deal like that." That is far different from a player acknowledging that they made such a deal.
Thank you for answering my questions.
I'm in
So these deals can be about anything, right?
ANYTHING??
Cuz i'm really hungry and I want a sandwich.

I really don't know if I wanna join this one or not, it seems both fun and confusing at the same time.
maybe I should play because I know liggy wants me to ;)
I'll play ONLY if you need players. Can't say I'd want to play this game but anything for my bro Meph.
I can imagine you didn't have the best time last time you played.
Quote from: FireArrow on August 02, 2013, 06:50:40 PMmaybe I should play because I know liggy wants me to ;)
I hold no grudges.
I don't understand how you get 11 votes in poll but only 10 people sign up?

10+FSM=36, you nimwit.
Quote from: Dude on August 05, 2013, 03:25:04 PMstop being a sore loser and shut up already.
I'm not being a sore loser nub, I'm mad a great game like this isn't filling up when it should be!
And I know a few people who joined already didn't vote in the poll.
...did you really just call me a "nub"?
That's enough, everyone.
Mephistopheles, we'll likely have to edit your game to accommodate for 10 Players so that it'll be filled before the week deadline. I would join, but I'll unfortunately be busy intermittently over the next few days and will likely have little (or no) Internet access for about a week starting this weekend.
I trust you to be able to balance accordingly if you wish to do so. If you don't, you can allow TheBoyWhoCriedWolf to put up his game if you would like. If you need any help balancing, you can PM me.
We can start the game right now if we needed to. I just wanted a full roster. If needed I'll cut Leviathan and change Belphegor to a regular wolf. I'll then scale back humans as needed.
I AM surprised that there aren't more players joining... :-\
Most people fear what they can't control. This game is all about lack of control.
With 10 players, though, this will be a rather short game, especially when compared to other recent games. If only at least two more people could join...!

couldnt have said it better myself.
/thinks about game of doors.
/thinks about the similar implications
oh bugger it

And that's the beauty of it. Your lack of control comes from the fact that everybody has total control.

or are you referring to yourself? Was there supposed to be a comma or not? I CAN'T TELL.

Quote from: Dude on August 06, 2013, 03:53:53 AMor are you referring to yourself? Was there supposed to be a comma or not? I CAN'T TELL.
There was meant to be a comma. It was a friendly insult, much kinder than a uncalled for 'sore loser'.

Is the law of conservation of mass (or roles in this case...) in play? (mentioned briefly, but not fully)

well someone was ranting to me about you and said that and I agreed with him/her so IDFC
Quote from: fank009 on August 06, 2013, 06:06:46 AMIs the law of conservation of mass (or roles in this case...) in play? (mentioned briefly, but not fully)
Yes, you cannot do anything to alter the powers associated with specific roles. Evrything else is up for grabs.
Also, if no more players sign up today, the game will begin 12:00AM CST tonight. (11 hours from now.)
Quote from: Dude on August 06, 2013, 09:42:58 AMwell someone was ranting to me about you and said that and I agreed with him/her so IDFC
If anyone has a problem with my they can stop being bitchy about it behind my back and PM me themselves. I don't need to find out about these things from someone else. PM me if you have a problem with me, I don't care who you are. Things won't get solved if you don't tell me what the problem is.
WHAT CAN I DO IF YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG.
Gtf FSM, that's not funny, at all. It doesn't have any sort of punchline or joke.
How do you think I feel now? I come to play TWG with nice people but I just find people ranting about me behind my back for reasons I'm guessing are wrong. Why would I be mad about my game not winning the host signups again? I know it's not a great game. Why have I got against Maestro to call him as a cheater? He doesn't need to cheat, his games are fine on their own. If I couldn't accept I might lose a host signups then why would I stick my game in them?
I'm not dumb. PM me whatever shit you want, I don't give a damn, I know you all hate me anyway, It's not my fucking fault I'm not a likable person, you don't give anyone a fucking chance here.
i never said i hated you i was just pointing out the soreness in that post
take a chill pill
I will end all of you and tear down TWG itself across the universe if all of you don't stop this nonsense right now.
I'm f***** Mephistopheles. I can do that.
Guys I wouldn't doubt him
meffy wins the internet
TWC Post
Felt like I need something official if I wanted people's attention.
In addition to Mephistopheles warning, I had also told you all to stop messing around before then too.
TheBoyWhoCriedWolf made no formal accusations and even if he were accusing Mephistopheles of cheating, Mephistopheles made the mature decision of not letting it offend him or affect him in any way. You're all better than that, don't start a fight over commentary about a single Player being missing. I don't want to take any actions beyond admonition because each of the parties in this small argument are close friends of mine, but I will if it ever reaches a point like this again.
Now, all of you, stop with the witty remarks and make up. As TheBoyWhoCriedWolf stated, TWG is a place for fun, so I won't let people argue for such frivolous reasons.
Sorry for blowing off guys, sorry Meph for making your signups awkward.
If you honestly have a problem with me just PM about it! :)
Doodle is actually expressing his affection towards TheBoyWhoCriedWolf in that post.
He's being a tsundere.
Also, thanks, TheBoyWhoCriedWolf for taking the first step for everyone, as it's the hardest for someone to be the first to apologise in a fight. It shows maturity!
Also, this goes for everyone; if any of you ever feel that you're being bullied or harassed, by all means, PM me. I'm not just someone who balances TWGs; I'm also the Moderator of this Subforum. If I'm not around, you could also PM vermilionvermin or Bird, and I'm sure they would also assist in ending the problem.
Quote from: Mashi on August 06, 2013, 05:06:12 PMDoodle is actually expressing his affection towards TheBoyWhoCriedWolf in that post.

do i even know you?
does it matter?
not really i guess
...ok, let's stop this awkwardness and have some people join. Gogogo.
i like awkward, I'm good at it
I would join if I didn't have school in 2 days. :P If you guys are OK with me possibly becoming really inactive, I'll join.
Quote from: The Boy Who Cried Wolf on August 06, 2013, 12:56:17 PMGtf FSM, that's not funny, at all. It doesn't have any sort of punchline or joke.
That was only a reference of how Scottish that word was. He only added a good picture to go with that. Just a more entertaining way to say "dat scotness", which I found clever.
(felt like I had to clear that because it was a great post imo)
The word is actually a shortened a cuter version of the american word 'noob'.
You have a history of naming weird words so don't blame us :P
Explain please?
I recall you saying shiz I've never heard of like "a wee bit" or "ewwie".
The word 'wee' is Scottish but you've never heard 'eewie'? 'Eewie is just a cute and more friendly version of 'ewww'.
Also, this is aimed at everyone, just come forward and pm me if there is something wrong with me. Rant to me about it and not anyone else! I know I'm not perfect, but help me to be nicer! I can't change if you don't tell me what needs to be changed. :)
idk how he does it but Waddle Bro always knows what I mean when I say something :O
I'd actually encourage you to be yourself rather than changing your personality. You're you and people should only like you as who you are, not anything you're trying to be. Remember that it's their loss if they don't like you as who you are.
