TWG 73: Curses!

14. HumanGimmick: At the end of every night phase every living player has a 50% chance to receive a curse. Curses will usually hamper your ability to communicate or play the game effectively. Sometimes they're just silly though. :-]
Rules: 1. If you break the rules of your curse you will receive a strike. Upon receiving 2 strikes, you will be godkilled at the end of the phase.
1a. Breaking multiple curses in one post will result in multiple strikes.
2. You are not allowed to talk about how many (if any) or what kind of curses you have/what it does. Doing so will result in a godkill at the end of the phase. (This will be at my discretion to avoid loopholes, so ask for clarification if needed.)
3. Rather than what TWC would normally do abut edits, in this game they will result in a god kill at the end of the phase.
4. The wolves are immune to the first 2 rules (though, obviously, I'd still recommend following them so you look human.)
5. Chat logs/TWG chat outside of PMs and the thread are not allowed due to being impossible to monitor.
6. Curses apply to both PMs and the thread unless otherwise stated.
7. You will receive your curse before the end of the night phase, they do not apply until the following day phase.

Of course we choose the game which makes it harder to communicate. Looks like the Alarm curse is the only one that's particularly game changy.
Those curses aren't in the game, they're just examples to give you a guideline of what curses could look like.
Basically I have a pool of curses and RNG will randomly hand them out, no two people will receive the same one. Sorry, should of made this more clear.

At first, my response was going to be "yeah somebody's going to be an idiot there's no avoiding that"
but then, with 5 mislynches, I feel like the curses will probably do more than hamper our communication to balance it out.
It feels like the game is counting on people breaking curse rules, especially with the 2 strike warning.
(Unless my logic is just disregarding the fact that this is a manhunt without any PR or counterclaiming to go off of.)

c: This curse could help identify wolves in some way, if I broke it. Which I might not want to do because I might die.

Yeah, of course. And breaking rule 2 (along with editing) is an instant god kill, breaking your own curse is the only way to get a strike.

Text based curses shouldn't effect the game too much, they're more of a nuisance. The more important curses would be any that change votes or involve the dead. The wording of posts would not help with figuring out the more important curses. I'm not very good at imagining specific scenarios, but you get the main idea.

As for the supposed "p*tato" I don't think that's a wolf effect. Rather it's more likely that if enough people say "p*tato" the curse will be lifted. Guys, it's a bad idea to lynch a person who can obviously speak without hindrance; therefore TST, Dude, and I should probably stay alive. I did read the clause of the rules, I was talking that way prior to day phase 1 when curses may or may not come. I~m still catching up on a few pages, so sorry if this isn~t relevant to current conversation.

Yes. The purpose of rule two is to prevent players from talking about their own curses, at all... zip... zero. You should be acting as if you don't have any curses and the curse is just the way you normally act. Sorry if this seems harsh.

Fank, I don't think you understand that I'd rather lose 2 humans than 3. Given the circumstances, our safest option is to vote for someone who's already going to die, because accidentally hitting 3 humans day 1 is not something I want to have happen.
If it were day 3 or 4 I'd be much happier with 3 hits because it's more than just an arbitrary shot in the dark at that point.
Anyway I have to go to class but if you need more explanation as to why I'm human let me know and I'll post some more of my reasoning.

Obviously in this game some of you can't communicate effectively. Those who CAN communicate effectively SHOULD communicate. I simply don't want to risk losing 3 humans day 1. Everyone who gets godkilled today is confirmed human (not that it matters because they're dead). If Tanooki and BDS are both human and we lynch someone else who turns out to be human, not only do we save the wolves 1 wolfing we also lose a precious mislynch.
THIS IS WHY WE HAVE TO DOUBLE UP ON THE VOTES. I don't care which one we vote for to be honest but I voted for Tanooki because I didn't notice BDS's slip-up. Since BDS is more likely to be human here I guess it would make more sense to vote for him. Either way, the whole point of this is I don't want us to make a mistake and get 3 humans killed day 1. If you don't like this plan you're probably a wolf or a very risky player! But by all means, fank, continue following your heart.
@BDS: Maybe you should say "eye" instead of I. That way we don't have to invent a word every time you try to use I and take off the first letter.
@FA: If a curse is lifted are the previous afflicted allowed to quote the curse PM? Or are they only allowed to say what it did?
@Tanooki: Since you're dying at the end of the phase you might as well drop the pig latin and tell us why you needed us to say potato.
@TST: Thanks to you I've started reading Yugi's posts in Rarity's voice... But you're not as active as you normally are.
If 2 people weren't getting godkilled this phase I might suspect people other than Tanooki. But a Tanooki/BDS lynch is the lowest risk with a comparatively high reward of all the options. If you all decide to ignore my logic though then I'd still suggest a maelstrom or fank lynch! At the moment though I will keep my vote on tanooki.
Just remember that using proper grammar makes the game more fun!
I do not want to vote for someone already condemned because then we will not know whether they were human or wolf. I feel it's highly unlikely that three humans will die this phase, you can give me statistics but I honestly don't care. The only way a wolf can be confirmed in this game is slipping up like this, so let's take advantage of it.
If that makes me suspicious/a "risky player", then so be it

My usual topic is discussing the game mechanics, the issue being half the game can't even acknowledge there is in fact a mechanic! We can't get confirmation about the nature of curses even if we guess 100% correctly. And then there's this vague spud business, things like that just make the problem worse! For all we know each of the curses have a hidden component that there is no way for us to know about!
I could try to be a little more active, the other problem is people just voting and not providing explanations. Some have even confirmed that their "safety" votes aren't even safeties but don't provide the reasons. It's more than a little exasperating. Voting and providing reasons why and then being open to debate is part of what makes games active (case in point, the last game.), but that's not happening here.
The third and final problem is I don't have a solution! Thus, no activity.

It's true that wolves really have no reason to show their curse at all. Doesn't that come across as an odd strategy to follow as a wolf though? If I were a wolf I would create an obvious curse to seem human. BDS even pointed out himself that wolves don't need to follow the curse rules. Tanooki's curse seems a little too over the top compared to the others, right? The only obvious curses right now are Tanooki's, BDS's, Olimar's, fanks, and maybe Yugi's(??). From those choices, you have to admit Tanooki's is the most obvious of all. I doubt something so elaborate would be a real curse (or FA is mean :P)

The thing about master statue, is that a lot of the cases against him, revolves around pot atoes. that would assume that the word is helpful to the wolves, and if he is a wolf, does the curse have any effect to humans??? its a great sell if it is though.

I feel like I already gave an argument as to why you, but here goes again: If your curse only makes you change peoples' names, then you're already playing in stark contrast to how you normally do. The 1 game I saw you as a wolf you made a few big posts at the beginning (mainly because it was a mystery game) then sort of went off with whatever goes goes. This game you're not actually doing anything other than "this person because my heart". Unless your playstyle radically changed in 2-3 weeks either you're not a human or you're so badly cursed that you look like a wolf.

If we look at the missed wolfing as a wolf's mistake, inactives would obviously be the main target for today. I would say the most inactive of the players would be maelstrom, jub (where'd you go!) blue, dude + mlf.
Mario lego fan has not posted at all since Night 1, so clearly he is the most inactive of them. That would make sense if he was partnered with Tanooki, since its easier for one wolf to forget than both. He is still very active outside of the TWG games, honestly does he even remember he is playing this game??
I haven't TWG'g in a while, but if my memory serves correct then Dude + Jub aren't super active players. I can't remember about blue or maelstrom, but if i recall correctly I do not remember them being this quiet. Blue is mostly complaining about not being able to understand the posts, because everyone else apparently doesn't have that problem.

Fank is being like way too quiet for my tastes. Likewise with quite a few other players. Given that this is probably from the whole curses thing I'd like to say that the less active players are more likely humans at this point who don't want to play and (at risk of making myself a target) more active players are the ones likely to be wolves, with the exception of me because I'm human.
If MLF were a wolf this game I'd like to think that he would be a bit more active; in the past being a human he's almost never posted, and if then barely relevant content. Like I said before, I'm suspicious of maelstrom who didn't post at all (though now that he has a new curse I won't blame him for not posting again).
Honestly with all the obvious curses hampering everybody it looks like just me and Bubbles are left.
Like I know it looks like I don't have a curse, but it looks like Bubbles doesn't have a curse even more.
FIRST If bubbles were a wolf, she could pretend not to have any curses and thus be a strong voice of reason to everyone who can't communicate effectively.
SECOND I like how her post for today (curse-free might I add) is saying "lynch the inactives"-something that FireArrow just tried as a wolf and nearly got lynched for it; only his smooth talking and Morgan Freeman-esque voice got him out of it. I don't want to do the math, but missing a wolfing might screw with "parity" (I'm not experienced enough in TWG to fully understand that concept) and puts like a ton of pressure on the idea that tanooki+inactive is wolf pairing.

Yeah well you probably picked the wrong choice- like I was trying to say, now that mael has shown up with a crippling unintelligible curse it's unlikely that he is a wolf, and adds to the idea that the inactive ones are humans. I did like yugi's selfies though and I miss them-maybe his curse was broken.

Suuure, like if the game isn't lacking in good votes, why lynch inactives? I like to think it's safe to assume that inactivity correlates with humanity, not wolfyness. Most players are just giving up after being cursed, but you aren't (I like that ;) ). Usually the "lynch inactives" doesn't come until like way later.

(I like to avoid profanities more than you do!) First of all, sure he hasn't posted since night one, it's not like he ever does anything different. You're voting for him because he's acting like he always does, which is essentially no reason. I didn't say we were just like each other. I meant that since you're a wolf you don't have to worry about the restrictions a curse might bring, like having to say Desu all the time. I'm not saying I have a curse (because I don't ;) ) but like, I always have to watch what I say-for non curse related reasons, mind you!

Is it any different from copy pasting? Pretty sure firearrow said it was okay to tell people what a curse was once it was lifted, and since I accidentally broke the like curse at least once and likely twice I don't see what the difference is there.
Telling people what a curse is and quoting/screencaping PMs from a host are two very different things...

In fact, I think a wolf might make extra effort to display signs of their curse to look more human. However, I agree about mariolegofan being human because a curse that hinders communication that much would be avoided by a wolf. Not that I can convince you guys, and so it'll be my fault when we end up killing the wrong person... because I didn't invest enough effort.

I do not think Mario Lego Fan has a curse that affects his communication, or at least not
that much. I pm'd him sometime yesterday to try and get him to come back, but it looks like he's left again. I can not see a mechanic in this game that prevents a player from posting at all for two phases. If his curse or curses are something simple like Nocturne of Shadow's or Olimar's, then he really has no excuse.

I don't understand this at all - if anything, the more players the better it is to lynch an inactive. Wolves're normally quiet in big groups, becoming more vocal as the numbers thin and they need to push the vote.

Oi, no pessimism, even if it is your curse.
With the missed wolfing it meant either inactive Wolves or super tricky plot. I'd place my money on Tanooki being a wolf with an inactive partner, we went and tried to lynch an inactive only to have it be the wrong person. That's just a single mis lynch not a lost game.
What it means from here on out is that we need to buckle down, ignore curse effects as much as possible without being god killed and do some of that scum hunting fank loves so much.
Voting wise we either threaten an inactive with a lunch to get some activity out of them or go through past posts and look for wolfish signs, plans and ideas.

Guys, please don't bandwagon my vote on BlackDragonSlayer! I believe in you! :)
Make a list of remaining alive people, and use process of elimination so we will win!! However, don't use whether or not someone's curse is convincing as your logic! You are smart enough to know that wolves can get curses, and follow them to the letter in order to look more human! I know you can do it.
Also, if you think someone's human, quote the posts that make you think that and save it in a notepad file as their username so you can look at it later! :D Then, when you are double checking your lists, double check your reasoning behind reads so we can have 200%!
Anyway, that's generally my strategy in a game like this. Take note that werewolves are more conscious about why they aren't werewolves than humans are, so even if somebody can defend themselves really well and then point out someone who looks more suspicious than themselves (and that person can't defend themselves well), you shouldn't cross them off your top suspects list!! ;)
Anyway, sorry if I'm coming across like I'm leaving it up to you guys rather than working out myself, but I have to go to work, and I trust you guys to make the right decision! Please don't just bandwagon other people's votes, please come up with your own reasoning and logic behind your vote and explain it to us! If your logic is faulty, someone will most likely point it out and correct it.

lynching Mr the hutt felt like the wrong decision. there was so much of a good case for him being kawaii, his somewhat frantic posting (yes its a kawaii tell now...) along with his some of his very first posts, (one that mr intuition quoted about baka receiving curses)
there is a case of him being a baka, the idea of trying to wolf BDS is somewhat weak though, cause he's always jumped the gun during the night phase (N1 curse for example) but wolfing patterns do seem to indiacte something (I'll explain more later)
Mr intuition... there is one thing I don't like in your list... is that you aren't looking for partners (although in a game with little to no activity, its quite hard to look for partners...
Obvious statment is 1 baka in Mr. Statue/LDE and Mr the hutt although lets go with facts that we know...
Sympths theory of 1 baka in Mr. Statue/louie55555 and BLS
Night 2 the baka decided not to do anything
All the baka kills have been on people who have NOT had obvious curses...
here's an idea for you to ponder, the baka can "share" curses?
I have been reading the thread, and in combination of my little fact finding, I'm finding it hard to pinpoint specific partners. I still think whirly and No escape iris are the ways to go for lynches... although... I might need one more night phase to get a clearer picture on the game...

Why can't you speak much? It's downright simple to read. Typing might take a bit of time, but some reasons are kind of necessary if you're going to be pushing a lynch.

there is one thing I see from the actives, and that is having a go at each other.
Going for no-escape iris was... interesting. something is telling me the baka were trying to create something from that either that or throw us off their scent.
Louie seems to be back, with another curse... can't really tell what it is but it seems to be quite telling
BLS seems to have found some form of communication (smypth would REALLY be dead with his grammar xD) and with the cries for help, BLS can only be a wolf, if someone else is taking the other curses his way. I cant remember if I made a statement of this, but it definetly looks that BLS can't write books, (like I am forced to :/)
Mr Mutou looks like he just wants the game to be over with
of course, whirly's still quiet, but that brings me to a point...
you have a look at some of the more active people... their curses have stacked on and gotten progressively worse. maybe its a tell, not willing to break a curse/can't break a curse
of course BLS and louie are even more wedged in between a rock and a hardplace than anything else... its got me thinking. is holding back the best thing for kawaii to do right now... at a time where we are possibly one from lynch or lose. what are we going to do, continue speaking in curses? and not get any thoughts discussed? (should have posted this yesterday... :/ me and my timing)

That was one time, in my first game, when Mashi was in charge.
I didn't end up lynching MLF, at first I went with the option because it was the best avaliable, but then people brought up that he played like that whenever he was human and I removed my vote and put it on the guy who was going to be struck with fire from the heavens because I didn't have any solid leans and didn't want to lynch someone who people were saying was probably human.

This is me thinking dumb... the better idea was to burn 2 people today and act like its lylo, but its too late for that. didn't really properly understand the limitations of curses... (certain Qs should have been asked earlier..) and those that do have strikes on hand, it isn't quite worth it to have a nice snazzy coherent post

its not good losing confirmed kawaii, but in terms of the power the kawaii have, it hasn't really changed...
Worst case scenario we lynch someone who can contribute, and baka are left with the power to control the lynch with 2out of 3 out of 5 votes (even though 5 votes requires a 3 majority, with there being 2 baka controlling a majority of 2/3 possible active votes, that would be game)

Lots of pairings are disapearing, especially when you have Mr. Mutou who is as good as a cleared useless kawaii (you have one job next phase, either have your vote with mine or on me.) BLS who (I swear was at least shitting bricks...) looks like he's caught between a rock and a hard place, incorporate that with leans and you have little to no options for teams, fmpov Mr. Intuiton can only be with either louie or someone who was lynched, (heck, louie has a LOT of partners... but thats banking on that rule of 3 theory)
