Despite the fact the SSB: Brawl totally ROCKS, we must take a moment to remember its predecessor, without whom Brawl would not be here. So who's the best character from the original Super Smash Bros?
I think Link, but I always choose link on SSB. Toon Link on Brawl was a stroke of genius.

um...no offense but Link was in the bottom tier in SSB. Pikachu, Kirby, and Ness are in the top tier in that order.

and I can't vote, since I've never played this game. I was 4 when it was released and I never got a N64. :'(

ok, my lovers of the originals. Im going to disclose some info that some people might not know. don't worry, im not gonna bash the game, i love it personally and have all 3 installments.

First, i'll touch on the rushed characters. As you all may/may not know, in every installment of SSB, they always seem to fall behind on their due date and have to push it back. So, in the end, they have to rush a character so they can meet their deadline. In the end, it makes that character amazingly good, but not in a fair kind of way. In the first installment was Ness. He was extremely good for what he was, although his being rushed slipped under the radar because no one really liked him that much. In the second installment, our rushed favorite was Shiek. You would have to be blind to fail to notice the fact that Shiek was far too good. I don't exactly know who was rushed in Brawl, but i have a strong suspicion it was one of the 3 star fox characters. No, im not bashing them because they were good. In fact, im not bashing them at all. If you're wondering why rushing a character might have a large effect on a char, in the long run it means that the staff didn't evaluate that character as closely because they were crunched for time, so their stats were much larger than they needed to be.

Now, a history of the original SSB. A long, long time ago in a wonderous and distant country deemed Japan, an idea sparked in the mind of a game developer in an office in a small building. His idea was to make a low budget fighting game for the N64. Being low budget, it would would be fairly small and made out of simple polygons. He brought this idea before his superiors and they agreed upon it and made basic fighting polygons (remember the fighting polygon team?) and took it before the upper ends of the gaming industry. They didn't really like the idea of the game until one of those high-end geniuses had the thought, "Lets make the fighters Nintendo Stars. Have a clash of the Nintendo Titans!" It was agreed upon, and you can obviously see how far it has come and how a small thought on a low budget game became one of the biggest game franchises ever. That concludes today's lesson, class! lol

sorry for double-posting, but it seems i deviated from the path of this thread. So, to make up for it. My favorite character from the original Super Smash Bros. would have to be Ness. I was only really good at him, Luigi and Link.

my favorite was kirby... and i'm good with kirby in all three super smash bros games.... but he's not my best =P.

Well, back in the day, I was always Pikachu and Jigglypuff. Now, my favorite is Ness when I play it.

Fox was my best character. Then it just went down the ladder all the way to Wolf.

I used to kick ass with him, especially in the Sector Z stage.

Ness was by far my favorite. Had sweet b attacks and the best a attacks (a bat and a yo-yo. Not even snake beats that), though a close second was fox.

besides, you guys talk like you still don't play that game today...

I loved playing as Mario, Captain Falcon, DK, and Samus the other I was great with but I OWNED with those 4 characters but I vote samus!

I used to rape anyone with fox, or with luigi's cheap move lolol

this version is the one I had the most fun with definitely

i would but i never owned a n64... i played the orginal at my friends house alot... =/.

Fox and Pikachu were the best for sure, but I always had fun with Luigi's and Captain Falcon's pwnsome punches.

I was always pikachu or kirby. man, i used to play that game for hours on end

When I used to own SSB, I remember I was very good with Kirby, but now as I played at my friend's house recently, I noticed that Mario was my best right now. (i didnt play with ness though)

I decided to play SSB today and i didn't feel the nostalgia i used to feel when playing it. I suppose its the better game play available now, and the fact that it was a low-budget game has become painfully true to me, but that doesn't make me love it any less, in fact it makes me love it more that a "Bad Quality Game" could turn into a huge franchise that you would have to be deaf to not have heard about it.

Kirby, in my opinion, is the all time best character in the entire SSB franchise. His combination of fast damaging move(basically all of his 1 or A button moves) with powerful knockout moves( brick smash, hammer) make him an indespencible charcter. He can jump five time by floating as well. Plus he's just plain awsome. ;D

Lol, Kirby wins. I always used him since the original 64 smash bros, see my avatar. I think Kirby is the best because it's very fast, have high jumps, his smashes atacks are fast and down and up smash atacks the booth sides. Kirby is really awesome.

i will admit that kirbay was pretty good in the first 2 smash bras, but what about brawl?  he was WAY
worse in brawl than in the first 2 games

I actually noticed that ALL the old smash bros characters were very more worse in brawl than in the other smash bros games, mainly link and mario. But for some reason I still play best with Kirby, I've stoped playing with link,ness etc... but with Kirby I still thinks he's the best. :P

They definitly nerfed(to make worse) Link and Samus and Luigi. I find that I pwn with Kirby even more in Brwl than Melee. I find him just as awsome as before. Link was my best character at one point in time but then I played with him in Brawl. SUPER NERFED BROS. STARRING LINK, MARIO,SAMUS,FOX, AND NESS!

I just noticed while playing melee today that in brawl one of Kirby's attacks was taken out. In brawl he no longer has his fire ball attack.

Ness and Luigi all the way, haha!

Link in Brawl, a crazy truth:
Ok, so, i think this is pretty stupid, but in brawl (like in Melee) we have 2 Links. In Melee, Young Link wasn't a hot contender for the Melee'r of the year, but Link himself was a true Pwn'r. Now, in Brawl, Link might was well bathe in a toilet because Toon Link has cut our Twilight Princess Link in clean Halves. Also ironic is that the Wind Waker Link is better than the Twilight Princess Link which, in matter of games, is a total contradiction, TP was truly amazing and i consider it the second best Zelda Game in circulations (Ocarina will never be rivaled, but i have deviated far from the point), but, yeah, im disappointed in link, and i really liked him in the previous 2 games.
