Question:
Should I change the ending?
Option 1: No, keep it the way it is.
Option 2: Yes, change it so that Latios doesn't die and Braxien and Noc get more of a role.
Option 3: Yes, change it into an NSM battle royale for the ages.
This story is basically a generic fantasy story I made up for two kids I was babysitting. I used their real names in the original, but here I'll replace it with forum members. Just for fun. ;)
Remember, I came up with this on the fly, so there isn't much detail and there are more tropes than you can count. Well, without further ado:
Princess Nebbles, the Dragonslayer
Once upon a time, in the kingdom of NinSheetLand, there was an old king named Jamaha and his daughter, Princess Nebbles. The king ruled fairly, and taught his daughter the art of politics. The princess was very happy. She loved everything about being a princess. The balls, the dresses, the castle, but most of all, she loved the feasts. They were huge celebrations, with over 20 courses, at least 10 of which were desserts. There were cakes, cookies, ice cream, strudels, crumpets, crepes and more.
All was well in the kingdom until one day, a huge dragon appeared. BDS's shadow towered over the castle, causing all to flee. Its scales were black as night, with long, curling, slate grey horns. Its teeth were pearly white, but you could see a reddish-orange glow inside from the growing fire in its belly. Its wings stretched across the sky, blotting out the sun. With claws as sharp as knives and as long as a man is tall, no one dared refuse its request.
"I am BDS. Who dares to oppose me?" (read in Batman voice) Nobody replied.
"Bring me the princess immediately!" He roared. Though the others were to terrified to moved, Nebbles thought fast. She knew that the kingdom needed her leadership in this time of hardship, and so she came up with a plan. She had a scullery maid dress up in her finest dress, and told her to go out and tell the dragon that she was the princess. The maid obliged, and the dragon took off with the "princess".
And that's all you get for now, I have to go off to lunch. Maybe you'll get some dragon slaying at 4ish. I dunno. Tell me what you think. (Maestro, I'm sorry you aren't in here yet, don't kill me please) :)
10/10 better than ThatGamer's weird dream he just had to post.
This is cool! :D I wanna be in the story!

Wait if BDS is a dragon... would he slay himself? ???
No, you're not getting the greater implications of it.
He's the Black Dragon Slayer; because he, as a dragon, killed all the rest.
More! I've decided to add names to a variety of minor characters, just for fun.
Although her father said that he had it under control, several weeks passed without any rebellion. The citizens were in constant fear of the threat of the dragon. Nebbles couldn't stand this. She had to do something to help rid the world of the terrible dragon! She decided to begin training in secret.
She approached Latios, the captain of the guard, and asked him to train her in sword fighting. He obliged, and she began to practice. She was a natural, and within a month they were ready to set off. She set out at dawn along the dark road, leaving behind everything she had ever known.
Nebbles and Latios set out, following the rocky road. Eventually, it became dirt, and then just a grass path. Suddenly, they were facing a huge forest. They elected to go through, rather than around, because it stretched as far as the eye could see in all directions.
They came upon a small stone marker, saying 'Turn back unless your heart is true'. They had no choice but to continue on, however, as they had already lost the path they came on.
The silence was overwhelming as they came into a clearing with a burbling stream running through it. Latios stepped inside, and suddenly a huge deer spirit appeared! (Think Xerneas) Both jumped back, but the spirit said "Do not be afraid. I am Bespinben, the guardian of the forest. I shall not harm any with good intentions."
"What do you want? I am only passing through on my voyage to save the kingdom."
"You shall never succeed as it is- You will need the sword of evil's bane to destroy the true evil."
Latios intruded on the conversation "I know what that is! It's that cool blue sword that's hanging above the throne! Nobody's allowed to use it though."
"Yes." With that final word, Bespinben disappeared into the mist coming from the stream.
Nebbles and Latios woke up outside of the castle gates. It was just before dusk, so they ran in before the gates closed. Nebbles decided to talk to her father and get permission to use the great sword.
"Oh father, could I use that sword on the wall? I need it to save the kingdom."
"You are not ready. You cannot wield it properly."
"What must I do? I have trained for a month."
"You must prove your strength and wit. Fetch me some lava, still boiling, from the top of Mount Doom and I will reconsider.
So yeah, that's it for this update. This story is longer than I expected. I only told it in around 15 minutes. ???
Latios, you're in there now. :)
Maestro, you have an awesome part at the end. Don't worry. It's coming.
And because there was already a black dragon in the story, I just couldn't resist casting it as BDS. :D
I'm thinking this is going to be about four parts. Well, off to carpool for now. Next update at 8ish maybe hopefully?
Whaaaat, I'm a princess that can sword fight and slay dragons??? fuck yeah
4/5 because i'm not in it
entertaining nonetheless
the nerd is strong with this one
Dun du du dudududun
dudududuuuuuuuuun
More! Short post, because "bedtime" is soon.
Nebbles was unsure of what to do. How could she fetch lava and bring it all the way across the kingdom?
Whatever. She had to start somewhere, didn't she? Why not just go to the mountain and see what was there? Maybe she could figure it out later. She rode off with Latios on her mighty steed, Epona, and soon came to the forest. She decided to see if Bespinben could give her any help, so she went to the clearing once again. All she could see, though were two glimmering lights. They rushed up to her, swirling around her head and making her dizzy. (Think Tatl and Tael)
"Who... who are you?" Nebbles thought they were sentient. Probably. They started blinking and flashing. Were they communicating with each other?
Eventually, they seemed to come to an agreement. The blue one spoke up. "We'll help you if you can get us out of this forest."
"Umm... okay? Sure, we can help you."
"Okay, I'm Braxien and this is my brother, Nocturne."
Latios piped up "HI! Nice to meet you, friendly friend! I'm sure you'll be the greatest partners ever!
The two fairies just stared. "Let's just get out of here, okay?"
Okay, so I wasn't planning on posting now, but I wanted to show braxien and NoS their parts. I already had them planned, so yeah. As you can see, I was getting tired enough to include fruitless video game references. More tomorrow during Bio! Yay! :)
Great NSM Pokemon Adventure Ver. 2.0
Probably the most least creative fantasy video game combination reference novella work I have ever read. Much excellence.

we're bros
Exactly. This is what happens in my imagination. I really like the "most least creative" part. Thanks! :D
Also, very excellent, not much excellence. ;)
i'm a fairy......

HELL YEAAAA
Quote from: Hero of Trains on May 04, 2015, 08:37:55 AM"I am BDS. Who dares to oppose me?" (read in Batman voice)
So... I'm Dragon Batman? :o
Yes. Most definitely.
More? Yes! This time a full length one!
Nebbles continued through the forest, keeping Latios close by her side. She didn't yet trust the fairies, even though Latios was fine with them. They were so loud and chatty that she wanted to put them in a bottle, but Latios wouldn't let her. He really had a soft spot for the two little balls of light.
Eventually, they reached the edge of the forest. Nebbles stopped Latios as the fairies rushed ahead. "Hooray! Finally free!" "No more chores for us!"
"Wait. This was about chores? Really? Okay..."
Braxien and Noc said in unison "Now we can help you! Do you have any puzzles? We're especially good at crosswords!"
"Actually yes, we do! We need to get lava from the top of Mount Doom. Do you have any ideas?"
After blinking silently for a while, they appeared to come up with something. "Just bring some water, you'll be golden."
They grabbed their waterproof bags and turned them inside out, filling them with water. Then, they started walking to the mountain with the fairies in tow.
Eventually, they reached the mountain. It was high and craggy, with sharp spires piercing the sky. The granite base was cut by rivers of obsidian, shining darkly as it invited them to climb to their doom. (Yes, I really did say that to a 5 year old)
Latios and Nebbles started climbing. The winding path up was steep and slippery, and the fairies flitting around their heads taunting them did nothing to help the arduous climb. Coming to a ledge, they looked out on the world. Nebbles gazed upon the sea of trees, surprised at how tiny her home city was. Though she had lived there all her life, she could never know all its streets and secrets. How was she to know anything about this huge new world?
A deep rumble broke her thoughts. Was the mountain erupting? "Yes! Perfect timing!" Braxien and Noc were overjoyed. Nebbles and Latios couldn't imagine why. "Hurry. See that large, bowl-shaped depression in the rock? Yes, that one. Fill it with as much water as it can hold."
Latios had an idea of what the fairies were trying to do. "What about that one instead? It looks like lava fell there just recently in another eruption." To their surprise, the fairies started picking up bags of water as well.
"Sorry, we forgot we could hold stuff while walking up." Noc was trying to hold in his laughter as Latios fumed.
However, everyone turned to look when a piece of molten rock crashed into the water. The fairies picked it up easily and said "We will return this to your father before it cools. Then our favor will be done and we can be free!"
Latios and Nebbles slowly picked their way down the mountain. They traveled around the forest this time, so as not to disturb any other residents. Back at the castle, they found the king enjoying some soup in a black stone bowl.
"Wait is that..." "Seriously, that's what you're using it for?" "Why didn't you just heat up one of our other bowls?"
The king talked through a full mouth "Thanks, you can have the sword. Have fun!"
This is the part where I completely stopped limiting my vocabulary just because they were 6 and 4.
ggwp
*Twinkling intensifies*
Awww yeah, I got a sword!
Have a horrible headache today, so can't put down any more. Sorry. My stats exam gave me an aneurysm or something.
Anyways, vote! Do you want me to keep the ending as it was, basically Nebbles facing off against BDS, change it so that Latios doesn't die and Braxien and Noc don't leave (most likely option if I'm not feeling better tomorrow), or do you want me to change it into a huge battle with as many people as possible included? (This one will only be if I'm feeling in a writer-y mood tomorrow)
I may not pick the one that gets the most votes, but if one wins by a landslide I will most definitely do it. :)
Make me the hero.
That's my only request.
That's my role, I'm the sword-wielding, dragon slaying princess here.
You're the one who's going to turn to the dark side
*intense twinkling intensifies*
First, you two should work out which one is Tatl and which is Tael.
I've never completed Majora's Mask so idk.
I'll just be whoever Noc wants to be.
Well since I'm NocturneOfShadow I'm more likely to be Tael
Okay Noc, that makes it much easier. Good choice!
Braxien, go look at Noc's gif from a while ago. Tatl is on the left, the cream colored one. Tael is the purple one on the right. :)
Ok then I'll be Tael I guess

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!I propose an ending! I eat everybody, and they form a city in my stomach, and everything goes well until they start being digested! Mwahahaha! Erh... hrm... hrm... I suppose that wouldn't work out quite so well...
Only if we can call you Linda.
An NSM battle royal for the ages sounds like a great time as long as I get a terrier-sized dragon named Toothless
give the dragon fire-breath and its an NSM flame war
If it's a battle royale, I need it.
Fierce and BDS should have a debate battle where each is trying to create a progressively longer argument than the other.
Nah, on second thought, that would take far too long and make the world far too existential.
Okay, so it'll be a huge awesome battle. (These next few will be somewhat short as I'm still recovering. Sorry.)
Nebbles and Latios went to the market to get some more supplies while the fairies stayed in the castle and played pranks on the servants. While picking out which watermelons they wanted to bring, they overheard a merchant talking with his apprentice.
"We'd better pack up and move into the country. We don't want to be here for the attack."
Slightly worried, they continued on. What attack? Was the dragon going to strike again? They knew that the jeweler was a notorious gossip, so they headed over. The problem was, they could only go in if they wanted to buy something. As they were scanning the window, looking for the cheapest item, a ring caught Latios's eye.
"Hey, do you think this stone reminds you of something?" He pointed to a rather plain looking ring with a small, square gem set into the gold band. One side of the gem was a deep, shining violet, easily visible from far away. The other half Nebbles almost missed. It was a light cream color, blending in well with the gold of the ring.
"These are the same colors as Braxien and Noc! Is that a coincidence? I think not!"
They went in immediately to buy the ring and speak with the jeweler.
"Hello there you young romantics! Is this your first date?"
"NO! I mean, no, we aren't on a date. We wanted to buy that ring in the window."
"Oh, that old thing? It's tra- I mean, that will be 800 Poke."
Latios handed over the money, asking about the imminent attack.
"Oh, that? Didn't you hear? There is an army building up in the east. It's suspected that they are working with the dragon and are plotting to take over the kingdom!"
dundundun
the plot thickens
Guess what guys! I'm really sick and feeling horrible! Hooray! So sorry if my writing is sub par. :P
Fierce was so bored with training all of the troops. Yes, he was the training officer, but really. General Maelstrom got to go do the fun parts, like speaking with their leader and BDS. He just had to stand around here, watching them do push-ups. At least he was able to catch up on his writing, which was coming along nicely. He had just finished a 20 page essay on the fallibility of the human mind.
He looked up from his papers, and stood up. Dudeman had stopped working again. What was he even doing, anyways? I mean really, they only had to do 100 push-ups. It wasn't that hard.
He yelled at the prone figure "Hey! I don't appreciate your slacking off! Could you please get back to work? I don't want you tarnishing my reputation."
"Why? Do you really think me being tired is going to destroy your chances of being promoted?"
"I actually do. If I have a perfect track record, it will be easier for me to get promoted into doing the interesting activities that I expected to do from joining this army as an officer."
Dudeman just stared for a second, then got back to work. Fierce took some time to look at his surroundings before he went back to his work. He was situated on a high hill above a cobblestone plaza. The stones were in rather nice shades of pastel salmon and slate grey. The hill was covered in wildflowers, but not where he was sitting, under the tree. It was a large, old oak with spreading branches radiating all around. The area under it was dark, with moss growing on the pieces of granite extending from the carpet of leaves. Fierce sat on a rock outcropping with a writing desk on his lap.
Just as he was about to get back to his riveting philosophy piece, Maelstrom walked up.
"We have some new recruits for you."
"Yes, general. Wait, these guys? Didn't they desert us once?"
Saria and Slow walked up. "Now we have new information. Sir."
This is beyond ridiculous.
I love it.
This is actually amazing.
You are now my favorite author that I can think of right now.
Wow, thanks Maelstrom and Latios!:)
Dudeman, I can't really blame you. I hate push-ups ;)
I can't wait for the next part!
Well here it is! This time back to you Nebbles ;)
Nebbles and Latios rushed back to the castle. They had to warn the king and prepare the city for attack! They pushed through the market, paying no mind to the people staring at them as they knocked over people without an apology or offer of help.
"What is the princess doing?" "Is there a problem?" The questioning voices reached from behind them, but Nebbles paid no heed. If she didn't get there fast enough, they would find out soon enough.
Once they reached the castle, Latios went to the armory to prepare the guards. Nebbles rushed in to tell her father the news. He was still sitting at the table, eating his dinner. He was on the meat course, eating pork roast with carrots and onions. He didn't touch the vegetables.
"Father, father! There's an attack on the city! The dragon, and an army, and who knows what else will come! They're going to destroy us if we don't do something fast!"
"Okay, tell Latios. I'll finish my dinner and then we can strategize."
Nebbles walked to the planning room, where Latios most likely was. He had his commanding officers, Slow and Waddle, and they were speaking to a group of militiamen.
"Now, the enemy will be attacking from the northeast. We will have to place our defending lines here-" Latios pointed at one of the many maps hanging around the room "So that we can hold them while they are in the range of the archers in the ruins." Here he pointed at a blocky area on the map, meant to represent the ruins of their old capital.
"Oh, hi Nebbles. Care to join us? Do you have any ideas about how to defeat the army?"
"How 'bout I kill 'em with my SWORD!" Everyone just stared. "Or, how about we circle around the mountain from the south and block them in while they're fighting our front above the city?"
"That's a great idea, but we don't have enough fighters. How will we get more?"
"I have some ideas. BRAXIEN! NOC! COME HERE!"
You rang?
Quote"How 'bout I kill 'em with my SWORD!"
i've finally found my new signature, this is me, so me
I thought you would like that ;)
Guess what? Braxien, you're narrating! No pressure! ;)
Braxien flew towards the forest, Noc at her side. They had to go tell Ben that a war was coming. The invaders would be coming through the woods, and they could ambush the army there. Ben wouldn't want the dragon in his forest anyways. No fire allowed!
As they reached the tree line, they slowed. Perhaps they could get some of the other forest creatures to help? The nymphs could probably do some damage. Ben wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, though. They would ask him.
Drifting through the thicket, they flashed to communicate. While Noc was reminding her to watch out for any scouts, she ran into a tree. Shaking her head, she continued on.(A la Navi in OoT's intro)
They went to the clearing and yelled at the top of their lungs. "HEY! BEN! WE NEED TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!" Then they sat there waiting for him. After five seconds, Noc yelled again. "BEN! GET OVER HERE! HURRY UP!" Braxien saw him waiting in the mist, and she knew he was just waiting for Noc to be patient. He liked trying to teach them stuff like that.
She just started talking to him, though. It would be fun to see Noc get annoyed, but they were in a hurry. "Ben, we need your help. There's going to be a huge army attacking the town, and they're coming through the forest. Can you help us stop them?"
"Wait, who are you talking to- oh." Noc looked around and saw Ben.
Ben spoke after pondering the question. "How do you expect them to get through the forest, anyways? Oh well. You know I don't like fighting, but I could get my fellow spirits over here to help. Just wait a bit."
