Title: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: The Deku Trombonist on May 09, 2015, 09:30:56 PM
This crept up on us a bit, but our old URL (ninsheetm.us) expires in about a fortnight. The majority of our sheets on site still have our old URL on them and this is a massive problem. So we need to get them fixed ASAP!!!!!!!

We need as many people to help out as possible.

Guidelines:
1) Only URL fixes.
2) Upload to fixes dropbox and post all links in the other thread. (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=7063.0) This is done for streamlining reasons. We need PDF and MUS and feel free to also provide MUSX if you use 2014 to help out with some future proofing along the way.
3) This thread is for discussing/claiming/whatever. I know there are a couple of issues that will need sorting out.

How to fix URLs:
We just need the URL at the bottom of the sheet to be updated with our current one, just like it says in the formatting guidelines: http://www.NinSheetMusic.org/
Please, please, please use File Info (Or ScoreManager, depending on your Finale version) to do this so the text insert auto updates (if it doesn't auto update on your sheet, you'll have to add the insert yourself with Text->Inserts->Copyright Text). It makes so many things easier in the future.

If we could prioritise the more popular sheets (those with fuller popularity bars) that would be most helpful.

How would I go about fixing a URL? Maybe an example of a sheet. I'm little unsure what to do.

(And maybe change the title to something more attractive to get more attention. I know it's urgent, but Help Deku Get Dates really seemed to get the community going last time)
Title: Re: Fixing the URLS ASAP!!
Post by: The Deku Trombonist on May 09, 2015, 11:23:52 PM
I knew I'd forget something. I added some explanations to the OP, although I'm not quite sure how to explain the part about using File Info and text inserts very well.

If I (or anyone else) think of a cool title, I'll update it. But I'm spending most of my free time trying to race through these fixes.

Note to self: Done Animal Crossing up to Nook 'n' Go and LoZ:OoT up to Lon Lon Ranch.

Doing Pokémon, starting from most recent games.

So we're basically going to update the url on all sheets and post it in that thread you made. Am I right??
Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!

Also my OCD senses are tingling. Are you sure you don't want me to fix little inconsistencies like the track title, game title, and copyright info as well since we're at it?

Sorry that I can't help with this. Although this was going to be a big part of my editing idea. I'd still like to clean up the rest of the sheets, but it looks like that will have to wait.

Yep.

If you want, sure. eg if the sheet has no formatting whatsoever.

No worries, we do what we can when we can.

Also, leave out the Banjo section for now, I need to work out what to do there. I might just fast track the uploading of the replacements, we'll see.

Not a problem yet but when it gets to that point I'll try and fix formatting a little bit.

For now I'm just making the text consistent as it varies a lot from sheet to sheet right now.

Also fixing track titles. I'll let you know which ones.

I can take Zelda: Oracle of Season/Ages, since I'm already arranging songs from those games, I might as well clean up some sheets.
Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: JDMEK5 on May 10, 2015, 09:48:27 AM
I've done The Legend of Zelda (NES), Zelda II, LoZ: Majora's Mask, Zelda's Adventure, LoZ: A Link Between Worlds, Star Fox (SNES), and Star Fox 64 in that order.

Oh and everyone can just leave Pokemon RBY because the links are already getting fixed as part of the Fixing the Sheets Project 2.
Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: Tobbeh99 on May 10, 2015, 11:41:36 AM
As I was fixing some Zelda Oracles' sheets, I had the intention of also correcting some names. And I wonder:
In the game all dungeons are called "levels" and in a lot of ost-videos on youtube there are called levels.
So my question is: should I change the name of those songs? For example "Ancient Ruins" would be "Level 6 - Ancient Ruins", or something like that.
Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: Latios212 on May 10, 2015, 11:42:56 AM
A lot of times, Youtube soundtrack playlists get the titles wrong. Go with the OST if you can find a listing of that.

Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: Olimar12345 on May 10, 2015, 12:13:10 PM
Lol, going against my usual instincts, but I'm uploading these in bulk and quickly so the less I have to review of an arrangement the easier/faster it is. Keep the titles what they are for games that don't have an official OST, and if something that does needs to be changes, pm me or post it here.

definitely don't change anything in the actual arrangement, as I don't want to have to stop to review the entire arrangement. 'got 2000 of em' to get through lol.

We have projects for fixing sheets, so do it there.

If there are arrangements like where it's the exact same theme like 4 times for some reason.., with no repeats like "[Lynna City] (http://www.ninsheetmusic.org/download/pdf/151)", or other sheets where I can reduce the amount of pages by page layout, is it ok to remove those repeats in Lynna City, and edit page layout?

^That sheet's so old that it doesn't even have a url xD

We need to bring back the general "Fixing the Sheets" topic, because things like that aren't what we're doing here in this topic.

Ok cuz I've been fixing some basic formatting like missing arranger credit, incorrect game dates, stuff like that. Nothing that requires reviewing though.

A thought about the RESCUED Links thread -- it seems a little disorganized with me just going through everyone's posts striking them out as I upload the sheets. Is there a way we could condense it all into the first post (including sections of the site that haven't been treated yet)?

I don't really have any ideas that wouldn't take up time (if you have an idea, please share it). I love organisation but the name of the game here is speed. It also leaves people free to just do a couple, or just their own or whatever they want.

I'm striking out (in green text) uploaded sheets, so now you can tag along to the Project URL's progress!

With the new update with 4 updaters, this project might start to roll. At least some sheets in the "other thread" get's updated, I'm mainly interested in this because I've fixed so many URLs from different games and it would be a shame if it all were abandoned.

Title: Re: Save Link from Extinction!
Post by: Latios212 on June 30, 2015, 08:05:46 PM
I believe this idea died out because of a few reasons:
- We tried to fix everything at once, and:
- It seems unnecessary to change only the URL when there are so many other things that should be done, as most arrangements on site need some sprucing up.

So I think in the future we'll combine this with replacement projects where we fix the actual music and other formatting, and this will be an intermediate step in the process.

All that said, I'll see if I can upload the sheets that you've done. Wish me luck, I hope I don't break anything.

After Paper Mario, Banjo, and Pokémon projects finish up, I'll get a replacement project chugging along. Perhaps not quite on the scale of redoing an entire section from scratch (that takes forever but can be well worth it), but fixing more things than the URL.

For now, though, all Fire Emblem URLs are updated. :D

Looking through old Pokémon sheets, a significant number of them need replacements (like at least half). For this project try and aim for sheets that are already good (ex. nearly all of the HeartGold/SoulSilver sheets).
