Title: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Latios212 on July 25, 2015, 01:42:34 PM
THE POKÉMON GOLD/SILVER/CRYSTAL UNOFFICIAL PROJECT

This will be my home base for organizing arrangements and replacements for tracks from the second generation of Pokémon games. I'm not trying to draw attention away from other projects (because those keep us pretty busy already), rather I'm giving myself a place to get organized without monopolizing my arrangement thread. I plan to do as much of it myself as I possibly can, but by all means feel free to contribute if you love this soundtrack as much as I do! :D

Notes:
- I will be using this playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL50AAD8692FEB1043) for reference but track titles will come from disc three of this (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_HeartGold_%26_Pok%C3%A9mon_SoulSilver:_Super_Music_Collection).
- Templates are here: [MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ibjuu6gv0ysmqoc/GSC%20Template.mus?dl=1) [MUSX] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/7gvd2ow0ztm1atw/GSC%20Template.musx?dl=1)
- Files will be accessible here: [Dropbox] (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qe8weijz7zxzuq1/AACgWkOE2LiOZYYkmWQy8Av4a?dl=0)

I claim Battle! (Suicune). Epic theme that I always wanted to arrange. Might take a while since I have a theme from animal crossing project and also submissions I might need to look after. And I will be away on vacation for a week starting next Sunday.

So, am I correct that unofficial projects don't get updates?

That's not true. Can't find the quite right now, but unofficial projects aren't guaranteed and update and have the least priorities in staff affairs, such as submissions and official projects. They may get attention if their content, quality, and interest is high enough.

Awesome! Don't worry about it taking a while, this is probably going to end up being a long-term thing.

As Olimar said, it seems possible if we do get enough good sheets. But for the time being my main goal is to whip these into shape for performing (and we can fix URLs and everything as we go).

Formatting questions:
What is the title of the game?
What is the copyright information?

Concerning the title, from what I can see from the accepted version of Pokemon RBY, the title is: "Pokemon Red/Blue Version". I'm not sure what was decided on Yellow songs. But, in our case, would it be "Pokemon Gold/Silver Version"? With Crystal songs being separate?

Also, for the copyright, I see: "Nintendo, Gamefreak © 1996" for Pokemon RBY. Are we doing the same, just in 1999?
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: SlowPokemon on July 26, 2015, 09:33:04 AM
^Yes. Songs that originate from Gold and Silver should have the game as "Pokémon Gold & Pokémon Silver" or something to that effect, while the handful of songs that originate from Crystal should list the game as "Pokémon Crystal." It sucks how many songs on the site don't conform to that, but that's the correct way. Later I'll make a detailed list of composers for everyone if that would be helpful.

Yeah, the Pokemon subtitles have always been arbitrary d:

I agree that "Pokémon Gold & Pokémon Silver" is the best option, since it properly differentiates both games. Because all in all, they're two separate games, even if they share most content. This should extend to all main Pokemon games tbh

Also, I'd suggest doing a template with all the info to avoid issues like this.
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Brawler4Ever on July 26, 2015, 10:32:34 AM
If that's the case, should Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Crystal be separate games in the site? Sure, they share several songs in common with other games, but the copyright information reflects those of its predecessors; not the game itself. Specifically, R/B were released in 1996, while Y was released in 1998. G/S were released in 1999, but C was released in 2000. This can extend to each generation of Pokemon games: Emerald and PMD Explorers of Sky were each released later than their counterparts, to name a few examples. Each generation has 2 games that come out at the same time, and then a third game that enhances the generation. So, should these games be considered separate entirely? It would take a great deal of work to fix, but I think that it would be better to separate the games now while we're still focused on the Pokemon games, rather than after everything has been completed. If we decided to do it at all, that is.
To clarify: only songs found in the later game would be included in that game's sheets; everything else would belong to the predecessors, which would be a shared game on the site. Opening (Yellow) would be a good example of this; it's a song found only in Yellow version,  but is part of R/B/Y altogether. Tobbeh just completed two songs also specific to Pokemon Yellow for the RBY Arrangement Project (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=5732.msg295179#msg295179), as another few examples. My belief is that Pokemon Yellow should be its own game, with its own, original songs. The same can probably be said of Crystal as well, but I'm not familiar with any songs past Gen 1. Are there any songs listed here that are Crystal-specific?

What do you guys think?

Spoiler
Sorry to highjack the thread. If this would be better placed in another thread, then I can post a separate topic, and this can go back to focusing on the Arrangement Project. :P
But I personally believe that this is the best way to handle this problem, and I would like to hold a discussion without highjacking the thread. ::)

Yes, the Crystal specific songs are at the bottom. You can see that there's a gap after "Fanfares Collection" separating Gold/Silver from Crystal.

As long as the sheets are labeled correctly and consistently it doesn't matter too much to me. A separate section would be nice I guess to take a look at only the 3rd game-exclusive songs.

Sure, that sounds fine. We should probably include "Version" though since that's part of the title. Template is on the way.

Complete track listing (you're missing a few) with all composers filled in, besides a few from Crystal I was unable to find.

Note that most of the tracks with two composers listed mean that the first one is the composer, while the second one is the arranger. However, since we are arranging them based on the Gold & Silver arrangements, it's important to credit both artists.

Also note that THESE ARE THE OFFICIAL NAMES, besides those few from Crystal that I was unable to find. These are Game Freak official names and these should be used, not any fan names or translations.

Thanks Slow! I'll be updating my list soon with all this.

Though, in the Bulbapedia page I referred to the second column is "arranger", which I take to mean that the composer created the song for G/S/C and the arranger modified it for the HG/SS soundtrack. So I feel like only the composer should be listed here.

Also, yes, thanks for the official names and I'll double check my list. (The other names listed were for ease of finding them elsewhere.)

No, Go Ichinose and Morikazu Aoki arranged a lot of Jun'ichi Masuda's compositions for the original Gold and Silver games, so it is important to list them too. Masuda's kind of infamous for composing and letting others make the final arrangements--from Platinum on, none of his compositions are arranged by himself.

Purple means that as far I can tell (I didn't check the entire thing for accuracy, so don't quote me on this) the music is already pretty much up to standard, so  yes, that means just the text - title, game title, composer info, copyright, and URL.

Great! Just a couple of notes, Olivine Lighthouse should be good with a few modifications from the existing sheet, but you'd best start with a blank template for Route 38 and Victory Road.

Yeah, I gathered as soon as I started working on Route 38 and realized that even the first measure's rhythm was wrong, heh.
I'm still a little unsure about the bass line in measures 4-5 and 8, but I'm pretty confident in everything else.

I agree! So many on site are a mess. Also GSC songs are some of the easiest to arrange (see Youtube playlist, it's in stereo and you can separate the 3 voices using earbuds!) so if you wanna try, go for it :P

I have yet to get everything properly organized but Altissimo, Bubbles, Brawler, I've put your files in the folder. You guys are the best.

@Brawler

Just noting something, you made a couple of petit mistakes in Sprout Tower in the note department, so I fixed 'em. Also added an extra measure because of something pretty inconsequential (first time through it's a Gb, afterwards it's an F)
Rink (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p2m0le6dvsi8psv/Sprout%20Tower.mus?dl=0)

I'll probably just lurk around here checking for accuracy, if y'all don't mind.

@Altissimo m.8-9 have a couple of wrong notes in the bass. You use Musescore, right? That would explain some of the weird formatting shtuff. M. 9-12 may benefit from some cross-staffing shenanigans.

On Route 38, I take it? Hmm. I'll have to see what I can get done with that. (I know the bass notes on m. 8-9 have some issues but for whatever reason I'm having trouble hearing those clearly enough to identify the mistakes. What are you hearing?)

So, Route 38. There's still that formatting stuff, but you can fix that later.

The rhythm of that opening motif (and 11-end) should be 8th-16th-16th 8th-16th-16th 16th-16th-8th
The B in layer two of the top staff in m.3,7 should be C#
Second last bass note in m.4 should be F#
Last bass note in m.8 should be A

Slow, how necessary is the apostrophe in Jun'ichi Masuda
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: InsigTurtle on July 28, 2015, 12:01:07 PM
Quick Japanese transliteration lesson:
The apostrophe (or sometimes dash) is used to distinguish, in this case, between 'Ju-n-i-chi' (じゅんいち) and 'Ju-ni-chi' (じゅにち), which are completely different. I suppose that his name in the soundtrack is given as "Jun'ichi Masuda", which would be more appropriate given that the first character in his given name (順) is pronounced 'jun' while the second kanji is pronounced 'ichi'.

Here's Olivine Lighthouse! I could use an accuracy check on the bassline, I'm having some trouble hearing that too and there's a lot of dissonance making it hard to hear when I'm wrong :(

Didn't realize Ecruteak was so popular. Not that I'm surprised; it's a beautiful song. If I had known that, I would have let someone else take it. Oh well. :P

Here is what I have so far (https://www.dropbox.com/s/v4wc9xa0nwm2j1b/Ecruteak%20City.mus?dl=0). It's not done. There's still a few things that I want to do to the first section, and I haven't finished the second section yet. There's supposed to be a Cleft Change at measure 12. XML conversion, however, seems to disagree. It's fine in my version in MuseScore, but not here, even after trying to convert it twice. sigh

I'm working on it in MuseScore, so editing this version wouldn't help much since it would need to face xml conversion again anyway. But, I'm open to suggestions in anything else with the sheet (like if I messed a chord progression somewhere). :)

Also, I probably won't be able to do Ice Path. Sorry. :-\

Ah, that's one of the sheets that I had an incomplete arrangement for. You can take a look here if you want another reference for ideas:
https://db.tt/L5XUaVzo

It's missing a lot of stuff (grace notes and 8vas mainly, I think that's why I never finished it back then, because I couldn't do those properly on Notepad). The last 8 measures were conceptual ideas on how to change the left hand for measures 13-20 to be more interesting.

Quote from: Altissimo on July 30, 2015, 09:52:40 PMI might be able to do Ice Path, actually.

Um, would you mind if I re-did Ice Path? It just seems like it'd need a big overhaul, and I'm just kinda sentimental about that one since that was like my first ever arrangement accepted on the site.

No problem! I did start notating it, but it's not anywhere near finished yet, so it's not like I'm losing lots of progress or anything.
Though, one thing: I'm pretty sure it's actually in cut time and not 4/4. That's just the feeling I get from the way the half notes sound to me.

Man, the interest in Ecruteak City is amazing, as it should be ^.^

Also Brawler, I guess I forgot to tell you this, but you'd honestly be better off starting a new file from scratch when working from one of dahans' arrangements. There are so many made-up notes in his sheets that it's hard to tell what is actually in the song and what isn't. For example, take a look at measure 4. dahans' version doesn't "sound wrong" because the melody is there, but in actuality the other two layers are just plain incorrect. Forgot to mention I had written out the first few measures a while ago (link here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vlhrfmpy1993teb/Ecruteak%20City.mus?dl=1)) and I can confirm that Echo's notes there are correct. Likewise for the second half of the song the sixteenth note runs are clearly off, and the chords should actually just be single notes, with the third layer being the LH that Echo wrote out on the first page.

(aaugh... I feel so bad for wasting your time...)

Shall we create a new file resolving parts from the files we have thus far?

Additionally it is accepted that the rule itself has limitations and you cannot be too specific on the content of the item in question.

Most commonly used on various message boards for various reasons, from humor to cruelty.

Briefly online to give some feedback. (measure numbers not including pick-up measure)

- Yes, what you pointed out. Also, in m. 1 the D sharp should be E flat.
- In m. 3, the last eighth is higher, just like it is in m. 6.
- 2 to 3 and 4 to 5, sounds a little empty compared to the original, maybe you could add those notes just before ms. 3 and 5? In m. 2 I think they are just (F)-F#-G-(G#) in the second layer.
- The slur of the pickup is misplaced, check that again too.

And that's that for now :J
Oh yeah, and for whatever reason I couldn't open the .mus, it says invalid file or something like that, so this is relating to the musx in particular.

I, uh, took some artistic liberties with this arrangement... that is to say, changed some octaves for both playability and musical effect, and had some fun with dynamics. (What it is in the original is that the upper line of the treble clef begins with the A above the staff and stays there for both repetitions of the melody, and the lower line begins with middle C(#) and stays there for both repetitions. But this ends up with the very first interval being an octave and a sixth, with the bass not being high enough to support temporary moving of the middle line to the left hand, so instead I just dropped the octave of the top line for the first repetition and bumped both it and the middle line up for the second repetition. I can put this back the way it "should" be, but honestly I really like the octave-jump musical effect, and it allows all lines to be played by a single pianist.)
Not quite sure if this should be a "con pedale" or just "legato" piece and there's no piano at this beach house for me to test which one sounds better.
Also, idk if "sfp mp" is the proper way to write a sforzando that goes into being mezzo piano. o.o

Quote from: Altissimo on August 02, 2015, 02:53:19 PMAlso, question. Should we be submitting these in the next submission cycle, or are they going to go through a different submission process just by virtue of being part of an (albeit unofficial) arrangement project?
Not quite sure yet. It'll definitely take a while to get everything through the submissions system but I'm not sure if we'll ever get the ball rolling enough to put everything in one giant update. Feel free to submit what you want for now while we start hoarding files in the dropbox folder!

Anything arranged for an unofficial project should be submitted normally. Olimar said so in that announcement about arrangement projects.

Quote"An Unofficial Arrangement Project (UAP) may become an official project if the following qualities develop within it over time:

But yeah, sure, can't hurt to submit now, since there's a ridiculous amount of sheets.

I guess the answer is yes. SUBMIT THESE BEAUTIES

Nooo I have like 20 sheets, deciding the best order to submit is going to be difficult :(

Arrangement projects, even unofficial, are uploaded as one big update once they're finished.

Well Olimar posted this thing (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=7339.0) recently, so not sure about that anymore.

In other news:
- Almost done with Route 26!
- Slow, are we working together on "Battle! (Team Rocket)"?
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project

But the thing you linked does say this:
QuoteAn unofficial project may be created and may exist in the Personal Arrangements board. An Unofficial Arrangement Project (UAP) may become an official project if the following qualities develop within it over time:
-Enough community interest and contribution is present.
-Significant quality throughout the material arranged should be shown.
-A substantial amount of material is arranged/collected.
-There must be no current projects in place at the time of the request.
So once the Animal Crossing arrangement project ends, this one may be able to take over. Might take a couple of months, though.

Hmm well I really would like to give it a shot on my own, but I'm not opposed to working with you. I've never arranged battle music either (except this old arrangement of the Ruby & Sapphire Gym Leader music) and I was kind of looking to do more of it. However, working together with you would be a good warm up for some of the newer battle themes too! Sure, I don't mind.

I think as a long-term goal I'd like to take on these songs:
Route 32
Route 3
Rival Theme
Pokémon League
Crystal Title Screen
in addition to the ones I've done but still need to touch up, and Violet City.

If anyone really wants to do them, though, be my guest. I'm just addicted to arranging GSC stuff now and I'm like "WHAT ONES DO I WANT TO DO" but really I'm not long-term claiming them, just expressing a preference

Which version of "A Rival Appears!" are you doing, 1 or 2?
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Altissimo on August 02, 2015, 10:15:08 PM
The Rival theme itself, not one of the pre-battle things.

EDIT: Okay, I also have most of Violet City done as far as notation is concerned. I haven't actually added articulations and all that junk yet because I'm having a lot of trouble with the first four measures. Even using stereo and separate earbuds isn't really working to separate the different lines, and I am not sure if the second line is just that - a single line - that does a lot of stuff or if it really is two lines (that may have more than is notated here). I'm putting it here in the hopes that someone will take a stab at it. I'll fill in articulations, et al. after I have a better idea of what those first four measures are supposed to be doing. (Also, measure 10 may have some layer issues too.)

Gone through and done some significant editing on all of the sheets I've done for this project so far, to lessen the load later. In all cases I need someone with a more advanced version of Finale to go in and edit out the "Pno." markings on the left and add measure numbers though.

Quote from: Altissimo on August 04, 2015, 10:50:00 AMSomeone's gonna need to help me with the MUS on Olivine Lighthouse. I cannot for the life of me get Notepad to register it when I want to click on some of the notes on the bottom of the top clef. I want to change the stem directions on the notes in measure 3, 4, 9, and 13, but Notepad refuses to let me select those notes so I can flip their stems.

Fixed (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ioh7gcs09yx2rxk/Olivine%20Lighthouse%20Fixed.mus?dl=0). This was an interesting case. I believe that you you use MuseScore, correct? It would seem that the xml conversion cause the layer on some on the notes in the Bass Cleft to be transferred to a nonexistant layer in the Treble Cleft.  So the second set of black notes that you see there are actually notes from the Bass Cleft. I copied each measure (that you specified) into a blank file. They basically fixed themselves from there. Now the layers that you couldn't reach are in the simple, second layer of Notepad. Hope this helps!

Nice, one of my favourite city themes!

I did some edits here: [MUS] (https://db.tt/CWCN02qV)

List of what I changed
Measures 1-3: First three notes changed to staccato for the melody
Measure 1: Changed the G# in the chord to an A#
Measure 2: Changed the F# in the chord to a G# (an octave lower too)
Measure 4: Added a lower C# for the right hand
Measure 8: Removed the staccato on the G
Measure 10: Added a missing E# for a chord in the right hand, shortened the half note in the left hand to a dotted-eighth
Measure 11: Changed the second F# to an E in the right hand
Measure 12: Shortened the last half note to a quarter
Measure 13: Added an eighth note in the second voice
Measures 13-15: Merged the layers
Measures 14 & 16: Changed the staccato pattern in the left hand
Measure 18: Changed the C# in the second layer to a B
Measure 19: Added staccatos on the eighths in the left hand.
Measure 20: Merged the layers

There were a couple of other things that concerned me that I didn't change though. Like, in the latter half of measure 16, the chord stretches to a tenth and a half (D-F#), and I think that's a bit too much of a stretch. I think measure 9 could maybe have the layers merged too. And just in general, the legato markings should be tidied up a bit (especially around staccato markings). But good job overall, guys.

QuoteAlso still haven't exactly finished [Route 26] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ag93jk2lnmn304y/Route%2026.mus?dl=1) yet but if someone could help me insert the third layer and run an accuracy check that'd be great.

And this is my favourite route theme! Don't have time to do an accuracy check on this one, but I did have an old transcription lying around if you want an idea of the missing layer.
Part 1 (https://db.tt/Z2dTT0Rc) (lots of enharmonic spelling errors)
Part 2 (https://db.tt/etIkSAUg) (wrong mode, should be in major)

Yeah we've got no idea how to fix these. I totally agree with you but we couldn't come to a conclusion on the best way to write it. Any suggestions?

Otherwise though your fixes are much appreciated! I am not good at hearing harmonies when they're not part of actively moving voices so I'm very thankful for your additions on those.

Just a heads up, I've been crazy busy and haven't been able to work on Ecruteak City. I'll continue working on it when I get some free time, but as of right now, I'm placing it up for grabs if anybody else wants it!

I would like to announce I'm not dead I actually have been working on stuff

But I have two questions for people. I already talked to Latios about the first one and he's not super sure what to do, and the second one I only just discovered

1) One of the songs I arranged was the Crystal title theme. Halfway through I discovered that, aside from the like five-measure intro that the the Gold/Silver title theme has, the two themes are exactly the same. The question is do we just use one sheet with like different intros or is it really worth putting the two sheets separately, especially considering we'd then have some funkiness since protocol would say we have to treat the sheet as if it were a unique song from Crystal - including putting in copyright 2001 (or whatever the year is) - when really, 99.9% of it is shared with the G/S title theme.
(There exists an arrangement of the G/S theme on site, and it's mostly good but I did discover a few mistakes, enough to make me think it's worth replacing. This complicates matters a bit further.)
2) A similar thing is true of the Rival theme (the out-of-battle one). There are two versions of this that have the exact same loop. However, they have a different introduction, and the second version goes from the intro to a point in the loop that's later than the first version (but eventually does cycle back to the first material of the loop). Again, two separate sheets, or separate intros?

The material is different enough for the Rival appearing tracks for two separate arrangements. I also vote two arrangements for the Title Screen tracks, since you can't really put two introductions on a sheet without looking horribly awkward.

In what way should the copyright and game name for the title screen be written, then? Literally all the material of the Crystal theme save a one-beat pick-up is directly lifted from G/S lol
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: SlowPokemon on August 27, 2015, 03:37:02 PM
Wait, if it's only a one-beat pickup, it really doesn't need to be arranged at all, does it? I didn't know it was the exact same music.
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Altissimo on August 27, 2015, 03:39:04 PM
Judge for yourself! It's the exact same except G/S begins with a little 6-measure thing in a different key and tempo, but Crystal skips this and just does a one-beat pick-up into the fast stuff.

Post by: SlowPokemon on August 27, 2015, 03:41:24 PM
Yeah, we don't need a separate arrangement. The only other difference is that the bass line in the Crystal arrangement is a much louder volume for some reason, but it's the same bass line.

Edit: In case I wasn't clear, we only need an arrangement of the Gold / Silver "Title Screen," since it's all of the material from Crystal's plus an introduction (which is my favorite part of the track lmao)

I wonder if maybe I could have the G/S intro on the top line, and then the shared stuff begins on the 2nd line, and before it there is the Crystal pickup in small notes with like a "Crystal only" note next to it or something like that.

ANYWAY, I have the following arrangements finished but not formatted correctly or edited (by "edited" I mean "articulations and all that nonsense"):
Route 34/32
Crystal Title Screen
Gold/Silver Title Screen
Pokémon League
Rival Theme 1

These will hopefully go up tomorrow or this weekend when I can finally make myself edit them.
Talked with Latios and I think I would like to call the following for after that: Route 29, New Bark, and G/S opening movie.

Just posting my old rough draft of New Bark Town (https://db.tt/VN8VYmyM). Pretty much just missing a layer and needs to be re-written better. Just leaving it here in case anyone wants to finish it quickly, otherwise I'll just do it over the weekend sometime.

There's a decent amount of fiddling to be done with the layers to make it playable. I played around with it a while back, but wasn't really able to find a good solution.

Call me the "third-game-arranger" after arranging a lot of yellow themes in the Pokémon R/B/Y project too.^^

Also, I'd like to do the Lavender Town theme if no one else has claimed or done it yet.

Sorry, meant to reply to this about New Bark Town, but there was a power outage over the weekend.

Anyways, I added on to the sheet you posted, since your sheet looked like it was formatted better. [MUS] (https://db.tt/RpuNjvCg)

As for playability, technically the first four measures are playable without octave switching if you incorporate the left hand, it's just the next four that are kind of a problem. Honestly, I don't even like the second voice that much, and would probably just cut it in the first half except for the 16th note runs, like this. [MUS] (https://db.tt/sUehFgiB)

If you want to keep all the parts in some way, then maybe you could alternate playing them, kinda like this (would obviously move the second layer to the other staff, etc.). [MUS] (https://db.tt/vXcECt2i)

But yeah I dunno, just felt like throwing some ideas for ya. Pick whatever you think's best.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the measures should probably be stretched vertically too, if that's possible.

Sure, we can get formatting done at the end. Don't worry about how it looks right now; what's important is the notes.

Gimme a little while to look at the possibilities with the layers here.

Oh believe me I seen it all and I did what I deemed best as far as playability. It's still near-impossible but that's about as playable as I could possibly get it. Honestly it was the playability that took the most time. And tbh I don't think there are enough parts to justify a duet. :/

Update:
- All recently arranged sheets posted on this topic have been uploaded to the Dropbox folder.
- OP has been updated with current status of each sheet.
- All purple sheets have now been marked as either green (url on site fixed, and we know it's perfect because it was checked over recently) or blue (still may have nontrivial errors).
- Shortly I'll be adding a new color status to the list meaning that a sheet has been checked over (since I haven't had the time to look over/correct formatting for all recently posted sheets).

I'll add the file later, I'm on someone else's computer right now.

Another update:
- Put a strikethrough through all the sheets on site that don't need fixing.
- Started granting green status (doesn't mean it's officially accepted yet) to sheets that have gained approval from myself and others.
- Renamed every file as simply - "track title - arranger" for consistency.
- Put everything into its appropriate subfolder.

I would like to request green status on the following sheets in the blue folder (basically, check them over and tell if anything's wrong; otherwise say they're good):
- Battle! (Wild Pokémon - Johto Version)
- Celadon City
- Ecruteak Dance Theater
- Elm Pokémon Lab
- Goldenrod City
- Mt. Moon
- Ruins of Alph

~~~
looking over some sheets right now, here's a log (will edit as I go):
- The Pokémon League (Altissimo): fixed title, formatting, added staccatos for the LH in last few measures added tenutos for last note in each measure. File updated.
- A Rival Appears! (Altissimo): I'd suggest getting rid of the dynamics because it seems like a uniform volume to me. Also you're missing a few measures at the end because the third layer changes instead of looping back to measure 1. After you add those, it loops back to measure 4 I believe. Stick with 4-measure systems (counting the pickup as a measure in the first system). Combine layers when they move in parallel. Also it sounds like some of the notes in measure 9 are repeated. File not updated; hand it to me when you've reviewed the changes.
- Dragon's Den (Thomas Wilson) - Fixed timing issues in the LH, file updated. Also I still haven't figured out how to assign an expression text to only one hand - can someone help me?
- Goldenrod Game Corner (Dudeman) - Fixed formatting, combined layers, re-beamed parts. File updated.
Here is Clair! I made a duet for this too. Duets are really good because you can fit all the voices in it, unlike solo versions where you might need to adjust certain voices in order for it to be playable.
Clair (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Pok%C3%A9mon%20Gold%2CSilver%2CCrystal/Clair.zip)
Clair (Duet) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Pok%C3%A9mon%20Gold%2CSilver%2CCrystal/Clair%20%28Duet%29.zip)
I'm not sure about the difficulty of the solo version. I think it is a bit too hard, but I let you guys voice your opinion first.
Also about my "Battle (Suicune)" arrangement:
The copyright is wrong the year should be 2000 (that's when Crystal was released in Japan).
Should the duets name be "Battle (Suicune)(Duet)" or "Battle (Suicune) (Duet)" with a space between (suicune) and (duet)? Very minor issue but still.
Honestly, I don't even like the second voice that much, and would probably just cut it in the first half except for the 16th note runs, like this. [MUS] (https://db.tt/sUehFgiB)
If you want to keep all the parts in some way, then maybe you could alternate playing them, kinda like this (would obviously move the second layer to the other staff, etc.). [MUS] (https://db.tt/vXcECt2i)
But yeah I dunno, just felt like throwing some ideas for ya. Pick whatever you think's best.
Edit: Oh yeah, and the measures should probably be stretched vertically too, if that's possible.
"Magnet Train" is done too!
Will take "Pokégear Radio: Poké Flute" and "Rock Tunnel" for later.
Went through the OST list and added a few I was missing from before.
I can't find the following in the playlist though:
- Trainers' Eyes Meet (Suspicious Figure 1)
- Pokégear Radio: Unown
- Radio Transmission (this isn't included in the GB sounds portion of the HGSS soundtrack and I can't remember if it exists in game GSC)
Also, for Slow, a few notes:
- You had "Bell Tower" mistakenly labeled as "Tin Tower".
- Should we split up the ending theme? (Into "Ending" and "THE END")
- Is "Registered in the Pokégear!" inside the fanfares collection?
- The Youtube playlist has Masuda listed as composer for Crystal Opening and Pokémon Communication Center.
- How's "Radio Tower Occupied" going? (No rush.)
The original game files have these two pieces as two separate tracks. In my opinion, they should be kept that way.
Maybe we should make them into 2 different sheets. If you actually listen to the end of the first theme, it ends very decisively, i.e. not leading to the second theme, therefore it also makes sense separating them.
We could always have both options, 3 sheets, "Ending", "THE END" and "Ending+THE END", if we really feel it's necessary.
Bell Tower is only called that in HeartGold and SoulSilver; in the original Gold and Silver it is called Tin Tower. "Ending Theme" and "THE END" should probably be two separate tracks. Fanfares it's really up to you guys too, whatever you want to do. If you don't have official composer data I would list all of the composers. And, I haven't done much because of piano stuff at school haha. I'll work on it this weekend.
Update: here are the rest of the unclaimed ones:
- Evolution
- Pokégear Radio: Pokémon Channel
- The Bug-Catching Contest
- Pokégear Radio: Professor Oak's Pokémon Talk
- Pokégear Radio: Pokémon March
- Team Rocket HQ
- Fanfares Collection
- Opening Movie
- Battle Tower (Johto)
- Mobile Adapter 2
The following I had as blue before, but upon closer examination I have changed to red because they still need fixing (not necessarily replacements though):
- An Adventure Begins! ("Main Menu")
- Hurry Along 2 ("Show Me Around", "Come Along")
- Victory! (Gym Leader)
- Tin Tower ("Tin Tower")
And these last few are marked as blue and are fine as they are, but have missing voices that may be possible to incorporate.
- Azalea Town
- Goldenrod City
- Professor Oak
I'll take Azalea.
This isn't complete - because the middle line is completely unplayable in the given octave by either hand but it overlaps so many other things I'm not sure what to do about that.
G/S Title Screen:
MIDI (https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyetoespsyqz12k/Title%20Screen%20GS.mid?dl=0) / MUS (https://www.dropbox.com/s/4omyggl8gldtn6h/Title%20Screen%20GS.mus?dl=0) / PDF (https://www.dropbox.com/s/hec4jll5nbv7p2q/%22Title_Screen%20GS%22.pdf?dl=0)
Took out the runs at measure 22 because I think they're unplayable with the melody and they make the melody impossible to hear.
Crystal Title Screen:
MIDI (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rbwozzv1s7otgvo/Title%20Screen%20C.mid?dl=0) / MUS (https://www.dropbox.com/s/06ubcbryshvw2ix/Title%20Screen%20C.mus?dl=0) / PDF (https://www.dropbox.com/s/m7b9r5qf0mgqiuu/%22Title%20Screen%20C%22.pdf?dl=0)
This is literally the same material as the G/S title screen except it lacks the 4-bar intro and replaces it with a 1-beat pickup. Not sure how the copyright information should look on this, so I used the standard Crystal notation of "(c) 2000". Dunno how this might be improved.
Opening movie to come this weekend.
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Altissimo on September 21, 2015, 10:11:17 PM
Ok here... have a completely unfinished version of the opening movie.
MIDI (https://www.dropbox.com/s/cu43gpf1t6ggm84/%22Opening%22.mid?dl=0) / MUS (https://www.dropbox.com/s/0iajgpyw1se1cz4/%22Opening%22.mus?dl=0) / PDF (https://www.dropbox.com/s/tr3wwoxov3i1a09/%22Opening%22.pdf?dl=0)
By unfinished I mean the following two things primarily:
-It's unplayable in its current state. This might need to be a community effort with regards to how to make it playable considering it's SUCH an iconic Pokémon song and there's a lot of ridiculousness in it.
-I have no earthly idea what the time signature should be in the "battle" type section at the end. All I know is that what I've written depicts every note in relation to each other; that is to say, there is no note that does not last for the "correct" duration relative to the other notes (except maybe the first half note), and no note starts on the "wrong" beat relative to the other voices occurring simultaneously. I have it going about the right speed, but it's hard to tell what to do with how wonky it is!!
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Latios212 on September 22, 2015, 06:22:28 PM
Is it not simply like this?
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fx4duAMG.png&hash=0d4ceab7d84ae94b7a73ed39569bd7fa2f43150b)
Route 29 fixed and foldered. I changed a few things, as always lemme know if I did anything wrong. Dynamics were over-complicating things, so removed them. Added some articulations, fixed a few wrong notes.
Title: Re: The Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Unofficial Project
Post by: Altissimo on September 22, 2015, 07:31:03 PM
Ok I brought this up with Latios over Skype but I want to see other opinions:
the Opening Movie time signature I had notated as Fucking Weird/4 at the end, yes it does work as 4/4 or 2/4 (not sure which is better honestly). But at the same time, the bass moves in a 6-beat loop in the eighth notes. So I'm wondering: which line do you think informs the beat? The bass which gives a 3/4 type sound or the melody which functions in 4/4 or 2/4?
EDIT: Well, no, I think what I have is the best solution...
For now, "Battle Tower Reception Desk" and "A Rival Appears! (Version 2)" are finished and foldered.
"Victory! (Gym Leader)" too.
I have the Ending (Staff Credits) and THE END!
But in the Ending/Credits, there's a pesky natural that keeps disappearing (making a G a G-sharp) whenever I convert from MUSX to MUS. (This happens again later with an A.) The natural is there in the MUSX but not after I convert it. I can change it, but there's no way for me to save the changes as anything but another MUSX.
Does anyone have any advice?
(I'll keep fiddling with it in the meantime.)
The weird stuff happens when you export a Finale 2012 file?
Any way, just post what you have here and we'll see what we can do :P
Alright! Here they are:
THE END (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2nmk0suqzcay9kg/AACM9xbqUHVx-OMuzlkXcrgOa?dl=0)
And yup. The weird stuff happens when I export to a Finale 2012 file. Just remember that there are some naturals missing from the "Ending (Staff Credits)" MUS files!
EDIT: It's the G5 after the grace note in measure 5 and the A5 after the grace note in measure 31. They should have naturals.
Thank you so much for these. I'll see what I can do about the accidental problems in the upcoming days, but I'm a bit swamped with work right now.
Yup. I've decided. Heaven's gonna be a Nintendo Ending Theme with one big descending baseline.
Take your time! I'll keep trying to fix the accidental stuff, too.
There's not really anything left. I might do the champion battle theme replacement or the evolution theme, but I'm not sure if it's within my ability or not yet(since I'm on my phone and I left my earbuds at home).
Yeah most of the work left is for people to check for accuracy and for me to freshen up the aesthetics.
Dudeman's already written me a list of what needs to be changed for Champion since it's not a horrible sheet, so I'll mark that down for someone to do changes later (I can send it to you if you want).
But yeah I'm going to be doing a lot more reviewing soon and rounding up some of the final unfinished ones.
Opening Movie is most likely Masuda (Youtube isn't generally the most accurate source, but...)
And for Mobile Adapter 2, no idea. I don't even know if that's the official name. I guess just list the three composers for the game until we find out: Jun'ichi Masuda, Go Ichinose, and Morikazu Aoki.
What's wrong with this? I don't really see any need to write it in cut time; it's not that fast.
Also make the composer info two lines since it starts to creep into the middle of the page.
reminder note for latios: in m. 10 of opening movie, the Bnat in beat 2 should be changed to a Cb to reflect descending bass motion (C on beat 1, B/Cb on beat 2, Bb on m. 11 beat 1). this answers the Bbb question because it indicates the chord as being Cb7 - Cb Eb Gb Bbb (which looks dumb but is what u get if u add a flat to C E G Bb where the Bb, and not A#, is correct).
we've been having a Session today with Opening Movie lmao and i noticed i had a real affinity for Bbb for no real reason but i think m 10 is a correct one.
I've been watching, and Ecruteak has consistently been one of the most popular GSC sheets (full popularity bar just about every week).
That, and I consider it to be one of the few (characteristic? flagship? most specialest?) tracks of GSC (along with other classics like Azalea, Goldenrod, and Violet which are all fixed already).
Concerning Ecruteak City, there is also an option having the melody in the LH, then the RH works fine. It's a matter of taste however, if you think the melody is too low at that octave.
Quote from: Echo on August 30, 2015, 08:17:52 PMHonestly, I don't even like the second voice that much, and would probably just cut it in the first half except for the 16th note runs, like this. [MUS] (https://db.tt/sUehFgiB)
Oof, sorry for taking months to make a real response to this.
I agree that the bassline is more important and cutting the middle voice in most places for playability is a good idea. However, it sounds a little empty around beats 1.5 and 2 of each measure in the first half. So here's what I did: [MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/z5l5r4o90sdm2sb/New%20Bark%20Town%20-%20Echo%2C%20Latios212.mus?dl=1)
[close]
I added in the eighth notes from the middle voice where the bassline drops out in beats 1.5 and 2, transposed down an octave so it sounds smoother and flows better with the existing left hand part.
I think this is a good solution ::) Echo and others, whaddaya think?
You could do something like this if you want it more of the middle voice, and more arrpegio-like.
Discussed a couple of tiny changes, and added in the folder. Approved!
@Tobbeh: that's also pretty cool! I'll see what Echo thinks as well.
Battle! (Gym Leader—Johto Version) has been submitted. I also took the liberty of crossing off Battle! (Team Rocket) since it's on-site now.
Battle Tower (Johto) is also on site, and Mobile Adapter 2 just got accepted this morning. Might be jumping the gun since it's not technically on site yet but FYI :)
Hey guys! We're over 90% arranged now, and I'm trying to round up the last few arrangements (or at least just double check that the claims are still active). I've already begun the process of intensive review over many of the sheets, and the rest will come (eventually). But for now these are the remaining ones.
- The Bug-Catching Contest - Altissimo
- Ecruteak City ("Cianwood City") - Latios212 with Echo
- Pokégear Radio: Professor Oak's Pokémon Talk - Latios212
- Radio Tower Occupied! - SlowPokemon
- Ice Path ("Dark Cave") - Echo
- Battle! (Wild Pokémon—Kanto Version) - Olimar12345
- Battle! (Trainer Battle—Kanto Version) - Dudeman
- Battle! (Champion) - braixen1264
- Fanfares Collection - currently unclaimed
Gonna say I'll do Fanfares Collection, but I'm not sure how the Game Freak Logos will turn out...
Said I'd tweak Clair (solo) a bit, and here it is. Removed some 16th's for playabilty sake. I edited my own file, not yours, and by doing so fixed all the wrong notes, but I might have missed some so you better double-check it.
