you read that right, I said NES, and yes, this is 2016 and not 1983

Gist of it is: Nintendo is making a modern-compatible $60 NES, with which you can use Classic Controller (Pro) if you want, that is bundled with 30 Nintendo titles - including such important ones as Mario Bros (1-3), The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II, Final Fantasy, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Kid Icarus, and Kirby's Adventure. The games are in the system memory, so you more or less have an NES emulator-machine, since it doesn't seem to be able to play actual NES carts. The upside is that you can actually play with two people though, and all the games have a Virtual Console-esque savestate option.
I never thought I'd see the day where this happened. Thoughts?
It would be pretty easy to screw up 420p to HDMI. There are so many technical things that could go wrong I'll wait until after the release to even consider buying it.
WHAT
THIS WILL GO PERFECTLY WITH THE SIMILAR ATARI FLASHBACK I HAVE
WE ALREADY OWN 2 NES'S BUT AN HD ONE IS PERFECT
ok but do you have a retro vgs (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/235430-how-has-this-not-been-posted-yet-retro-vgs/) or its successor the coleco chameleon (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247145-coleco-chameleon-hardware-speculations/)
Well, this is a day-one buy for me.
It includes two Squaresoft titles as well? Wow. Hopefully Bubble Bobble and FF NES come to the Wii U Virtual Console service for the few of us who own the other 28 games, since those two are oddly enough not out on the NA/EU VC service.
Speaking of which, that reminds me that I should grab that NES themed controller. Looks really cool
how do you own 28 of those NES games and one of them isn't final fantasy

Wait, the NES was 420p? Aren't most GameCube games 360p?
Also, apparently every game played on a Wii U is HD, even ones from older consoles.
(Though speaking of HD problems, I've played The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night on a Wii U, and there seemed to be some kind of weird grid-like effect that made the lighting effects look like halftone. Is there something wrong with the game, or was it not designed for HDMI? PM me so we don't derail the thread.)
gamecube was 480p and wii was 480 widescreen
Woops, meant 240p
I'm definitely buying this. My NES shat out on me last year and all of the games I owned for it are in this dealio.
Ugh, $100. It doesn't even come with the AC ADAPTER in PAL regions. WHY!?
If it has the classic PAL slowdown, I'm going to throw something I swear. It wasn't necessary in the Wii Virtual Store, and it isn't necessary here.
Besides that, I'm very excited for this!
absolutely buying
I don't want this because the only games I'd play would be Mario and Zelda, and I've already played those.

Because believe it or not, the only Square title on the Wii U VC in North America/Europe is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. ...Which is unfortunately the worst FF title from their GBA lineup, as none of the FFA ports or the NES/SNES originals are in sight. Yes, that means the Wii U lacks the original Final Fantasy and Bubble Bobble unless you are in Japan.
Of course they reveal this AFTER I get the first four Mario games for VC...
I really want this for some reason, but I must resist.
I'm not hugely excited about this, tbh. It's a locked-out box--the 30 games are all you get. Not allowing it to be compatible with other NES games really decreases the appeal for me.
Not to mention that your accessories won't be compatible either. *sowly closes the drawer whilst R.O.B., the gun, and the advantage all hold back rejection tears*
My brother told me he and my sister were going to get this for me for Christmas and I wouldn't buy it for myself so it sounds like a good gift. I own the games I really want already, but it's still a neat piece of hardware (software? How do we classify this thing). Wish it had EarthBound Beginnings on there, though.
Power Glove confirmed for HD NES. =P

If it had EarthBound on it, I'd totally get it.
Seems weird to me that it wouldn't be on there after the big deal about releasing it on Wii U.
It sure would make it worth-while, lol. I'm still debating whether or not to get it, since I own most of those games and a working NES with accessories and more. If anything, I'll pick up a couple of the NES controllers they'll sell separately. Those'll be hella for VC games.
Is the console going to come with a NES controller? If so I'd definitely try that out on VC too--I've never had a NES, it was a bit before my generation and I've always wanted to try out the real thing.
I believe it does, yeah.
Btw, you can just get an extra for the console, or one for yourself for just $10, which would save you quite a bit if you don't want the NES itself.
a new controller would be great since the ones we have are all gummy and sticky (do the old controllers work with this one?)
Being unable to add more games is a huge letdown... It looks nice though, if there are no interesting games from Nintendo this holiday I'll most likely buy one of these. I do wonder if they will go on with a mini SNES and 64 if this is successful enough.

No, the new ones have connectors like the ones of the Wiimote so you can use them with it.
I take back what I said about how Nintendo was going to ruin the emulation.
I will pass on this, but, if there is a SNES mini with Chrono Trigger and EarthBound, well, I'm in.
This release made me excited but also slightly bummed as in my gaming career I have tracked down not only an NES system with 2 controllers, but also a handful of games such as Super Mario 1-3, LoZ and Zelda II (both in gold), and some smaller games like Q*bert. That being said, I was totes ready to buy till I learned that the controllers are different and there's no option to add more games. After that, I'm not really feeling a need. The world did need this though.
I'm fine with owning both copies of games
As am I but I'm not going to get it right off the press anymore. I'm waiting this one out for a bit at the very least.
I'll import a Famicom mini so I can play the FDS games, Final Fantasy III and River City Ransom.
