If someone can find better percussion instruments for this, I'd appreciate it.

Good question. This is the only answer I could find, from when I last asked that sort of question:

Quote from: latios212could it just be that no one's arranged it? :P

But, I'm glad to contribute.

Oh wow, this is really neat. Didn't realize how much we needed this!

Just taking a quick peek, definitely change to E major on page 2.

Probably a case of 'it's so popular, nobody dare do it'

This is your lucky day.

Feedback:
- The reverb is quite high (I believe we've talked about this over discord).
- The playability of M. 2...16th five-note chords at QN = 148...
- Notes look good in M. 5-8, but a little shoddier in 9-12. Here's what I'm hearing:
Spoiler

- M. 36. Same as M. 2.
- I'd put the separate voices in different layers in M. 21-28. It's kind of odd with how it currently is.

Image seems fine to me...

About the 16th chords, I normally wouldn't approve of things that dense and fast either, but here I feel since you have the ability to use two hands, and ample time to prepare for it, it's probably passable. At least I can get it to sound alright on my keyboard.

Harmonies etc are fab :D Great arrangement. Simple and accurate! Add Seb's suggestions and I can't see anything else in the way

Loving the pencil note, but what if there aren't any around? Maybe just something like 'percussive sound/effect' would be clear enough and not as oddly specific idk.

In my opinion, percussion additions, like pencils, are optional, but adding them is totally cool. It just gives the performer another option.

maybe i'm gonna rise from the dead for sheet fixing

m. 12, L.H.: E#'s should be F naturals (F11 chord)
m. 14, L.H.: Bb should be A# (A#dim chord in R.H.)
m. 18 + upbeat in 17, R.H.: I think I'd rather see Gb's here than F#'s (Ab9 chord), and maybe add a courtesy accidental on the last F# on the Bm7 chord
m. 21-29, R.H.: See if you can lower some of those floating eighth rests
m. 28, L.H.: I think it makes more sense to write an Eb here instead of a D#

Also, if you want to have the L.H. played an octave lower, maybe start on m. 5 instead of m. 1, because the treble clef part in the L.H. should be played on its normal octave.
I'm doubting however if the L.H. should be played an octave lower at all, I think it could sound better in its written octave right now. Else there is a big gap between the R.H. and L.H. which may sound a bit empty.

Thanks, Bloop. I think I edited them with your suggestions correctly, but the underlined area is a bit iffy on my part. Can someone check?

Last chord in m. 18 is also a Bm7 and needs F# instead of Gb. (Though that looks a bit weird coming in from a Gb...)
I'd also recommend removing the courtesy sharps in 19.

I see what you're going for with the layers in 21-29 when trying to differentiate the two voices, but I think the two layers just look silly because you have staccatos and beams flipped the wrong way when there's nothing preventing them from being in the normal direction. I would suggest writing it in one layer and simply breaking the beams where you want to draw a distinction between the two RH parts.

I recommended those voices be split up between layers. Personally, I find it less confusing to have them split up so the melody is clearly shown. When I first listened to the sheet, I was a little confused as to where the melody was/what or wasn't the melody. Another option would be to have them all in layer 1 and then unbeam the different voice?

I dislike how it is currently because the melody is forced to beam upwards, as well as have staccatos awkwardly on top of the beams, even though there's nothing blocking it from pointing downwards.

Yeah, that's what I suggested.

That's why I suggested adding a courtesy accidental on that note.

As for a more detailed explanation of my Gb's: basically what's happening harmonically in m. 17-19 is A9 - Ab9 - Gmaj9. The notes of these chords are a - c# - e - g - b, ab - c - eb - gb - bb, g - b - d - f# - a
That's why I suggested changing the f#'s to gb's and adding a courtesy sharp on the last f#, so that chord won't be misread as G9 (with an f instead of an f#)

There, after a playback complication, I fixed it (I think...?)

Almost! This is what I meant in m. 16-18:

And one last thing: you could change the time signature from 4/4 to cut time ((https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9b/Allabreve.svg/11px-Allabreve.svg.png)). The song is a bossa nova, which is one of the most famous music styles in alla breve feel.

It changed the beaming a little bit when I switched it; is it still right?

I'd recommend disconnecting the groups of four 16th notes from the eighth note that follows them in m. 2 and 36.

Would also recommend a courtesy natural on the left hand A at the beginning of measure 15.

Quote from: Bloop on June 10, 2018, 02:26:55 PMm. 28, L.H.: I think it makes more sense to write an Eb here instead of a D#
I'm a bit skeptical here since although it makes sense looking at the contour of the left hand, it seems a bit odd to have an Eb under the F#-A-C# up top.

Also, to better articulate the second "background" part at the beginning of page 2, what would you think about slurring each pair of chords together? From 22-23, 24-25, 26-27, and 28-29.
