Title: Postoli's Arrangements - UPDATED
Post by: Postoli on December 31, 2020, 08:04:51 PM

Hey there! I'm new to the NSM community, however I'm an experienced arranger and composer. Below is a list of my arrangements. As I'm a Musescore-Mac user, I have no way of viewing the .mus files, and I'd appreciate anyone who can help me convert my Completed files waiting to be submitted (I'd highly recommend using the PDFs for reference, since the MusicXML files tend to send the formatting completely out of what was originally intended). Thanks!

Just looking at Molduga Battle right now - it's really good! This works a lot better for piano than I had originally imagined when listening to the song a while back :P

One main thing to address before we get the files converted - the main rhythm should be written as eighth, sixteenth rest, sixteenth, eighth rest, eighth (i.e. split up the second note to show where beat s 2 and 4 land).

Thanks so much! I did think about doing that with the rhythm, I just wasn't sure about having different note values with the staccatos, and whether that would make it more confusing. But I agree that technically it is more correct in terms of rhythmic grouping, so I'll make that change now and then update the files.

Converted .mus file for Molduga Battle, tried to get the articulations and stuff to match your existing PDF :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/p1abtokowc6yd32/Molduga%20Battle.mus?dl=1 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p1abtokowc6yd32/Molduga%20Battle.mus?dl=1)

I'll take a closer look at this one in submissions!

Before we go about converting this for submission, how about writing the notes in the third measure of each system as just eighth notes? You have "molto pedale" here so I don't think you need the explicit ties. It could look like the left hand of m. 9, but split between the two staves.

I'd suggest adding dynamics in m. 4 and 16 at the end of the hairpins. Also, I don't think you need the text direction for the repeat at the end since it's already implied, but you're free to keep it if you want.

Here's a PDF from the first attempt at conversion: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ecxubedrw1y3ab/Overlooking%20Hyrule%20-%20After%20the%20Calamity%20%28Title%20Screen%29.pdf?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ecxubedrw1y3ab/Overlooking%20Hyrule%20-%20After%20the%20Calamity%20%28Title%20Screen%29.pdf?dl=0)

A couple questions:
- The "repeat as long as desired" at the end isn't strictly necessary (although it's fine), do you want to keep/remove it?
- Shall I go ahead and put this up in submissions?

Hey, thanks for this!

The repeat direction is there just because it's not a repeat to the beginning, so the piece is fairly short with just one repeat, but I don't want to specify an exact quantity of how many times the section should be repeated. If you think it should really go, I don't have a problem with it - this is just why I put it there.

And I'm happy if you submit this - thank you!

Oops, sorry for missing this earlier!

Yeah, for most video game pieces at least I feel the understanding when seeing a repeat bar is to loop indefinitely, so I'd say it's not necessary.

Will put this up in submissions momentarily~
