Hello all, and welcome to NinSheetMusic's new
Replacement Initiative! Let me explain how this will work, because it will be very different to previous replacement projects.
Over the past year or so, the updating team have been going through all of the sheets on-site that currently need replacing and have divided them into categories based on how far they are away from meeting the site's standard (i.e. how good they are). You can find out more about this new and improved replacement audit here (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/index.php?topic=12125.msg413903;topicseen#new). Below is a list of 10 of the most needed replacements based on that categorisation (semi-arbitrarily chosen from the M category). We have put them into difficulty categories to help you gauge how hard they may be to arrange replacements for, but your experience may differ to our estimates. We would like to encourage you to have a go at replacing one of these sheets, and you will be rewarded with an extra sub slot for doing so! I will explain the details of how this will work below the list.

Here's how it will work:
- You express your interest in arranging one of these sheets by letting everyone know in this thread. This is to prevent multiple people from needlessly working on the replacements for the same sheets, and will work as a soft claims system. If you're not able to work on the sheet anymore, let us know as quickly as possible in case someone else wants to work on it. If you are inactive with an outstanding claim and someone else wants to have a go, they will be free to.
Claimed sheets will be struck through in the list, and will be removed/replaced after the new arrangement is on site. - When you have completed your sheet, post it here (or a link to it here) so that everyone can see.
- An updater will submit your new replacement to the submissions board for you, which will not count towards the normal maximum of two submissions. We withhold the right to not submit your replacement if we do not feel that it is up to the quality standard that we expect in submissions.
Here is some extra miscellaneous information about this initiative:
- You can only have one additional submission from this initiative at any given time (this includes collaborations).
- We may in the future add more sheets to this initiative, but for now these are the 10 sheets. Our aim is to keep this as a running list of sheets to be replaced, but we may adjust things depending on how it turns out.
- The titles in the above list refer to the names of the sheets on-site, but may not be the correct names that we should use. We encourage you to research this if you are arranging one of these sheets. We also encourage you to check the original sheet on-site to see exactly what needs replacing.
- We have endeavoured to provide a correct audio source alongside the sheet name in the list, but we encourage you to cross-check the audio with the sheet on-site to make sure you are arranging the correct piece.
- If you are ever in doubt about anything, please do not hesitate to ask in this thread. We will do our best to assist/clear things up.

I'd like to do Presea's Theme, but not sure if I have the time currently as I'm now settling into my next semester of college.
I think I'd like to take Meteo. I was thinking about doing a couple Star Fox replacements (this wasn't one of them) in the future. If anyone wants to collab, feel free to voice it or message me

I don't mind you doing it though, or if you wanted to incorporate any part of what I've written, or me trying to finish it myself. Let me know what you think would be best ^^
I would like to take on "Sigma Stage 2" from Mega Man X, please. I was unaware that its replacement was sorely needed.
I'm down to tackle the Zelda one
I'd like to take a crack at X-Naut Fortress.
Oh thank god finally someone else noticed how bad outdated the Big Boss sheet is. It's just a straight up MIDI rip basically lol
I might take on Halo or Big Boss, but no promises so they're still up for grabs for anyone who wants it

It has been common knowledge (certainly among the updaters) for years.
I'm going to throw something together for the Illusion of Gaia sheet, although I'm not 100% on what its name should actually be.

I'll leave my rambling about the game and its music for my PA. Glad to be a part of the Replacement Initiative project!
Took a shot at Halo 2's "Menu" (actually "The Last Spartan"), might need some tweaking but at any rate it's better than what we have onsite:

So I was initially quite confused as this didn't seem to match the video that we had found earlier, but I think I have some idea what is happening. Am I right in saying that the Halo 2 menu actually plays some sort of collection of shortened tracks from the game's OST? It seems a section of 'The Last Spartan' plays on the menu and that this is what the original sheet was trying to arrange? This is a slightly weird situation because from my point of view it's not actually entirely clear what a 'replacement' actually means. Should we be putting up a sort of compilation sheet of all of the shortened tracks that cycle on the menu screen, or should we put a full version of what is currently truncated (i.e. the Last Spartan)?
My guess would be that when people see 'Halo 2 - Menu' they are expecting the choral piece that seems to be the initial track that plays in the cycle. I guess if we change the name that is isn't a problem, but are we actually replacing the sheet and not just substituting it for something else? I'm open to ideas here. Maybe someone who is more familiar with the Halo 2 OST can chime in with something sensible.

So I'm not actually 100% sure about this myself. The replacement audit just listed the sheet onsite as actually "The Last Spartan." The actual "Menu" track seems to be completely different from what I recall. I just arranged Last Spartan to try and follow the guidelines. Worst case, I guess we could submit it as a new sheet.

Yeah... there are some instances on site where what the sheet contains doesn't actually correspond to the title listed. There's pros and cons to making the replacement either way. Replacing the arrangement and correcting the title ensures that the musical content is still there for anyone playing that particular piece. On the other hand, arranging the actual piece for the title means that we're finally delivering what we are advertising.
In my opinion, doing it either way (replacing the arrangement and correcting the title, or arranging the actual piece for the title) is fine since there will be a little confusion either way. For this case, though I don't know anything about the Halo 2 soundtrack, I would suggest we take this as the replacement in the interest of clearing out the old sheets on site sooner rather than later.
Halo 2's menu music is a snippet compilation of tracks from the ost

I just remembered that Sebastian has an arrangement of this in his thread (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/index.php?topic=4911.0) from a while back. It might need a bit of tweaking but we can probably polish and submit that for him unless anyone else particularly wants to do this piece.

I'll claim the Logo Intro from Mario RPG!
I've wanted to do Nacrene City for a while now... but it's a hard one >.< Braix had a version (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/index.php?topic=10111.0) of it some time back but it was a bit rough.
Let me know if anyone wants to bounce some ideas around or anything~
I didn't really strongly claim it before but I'm just popping in to say that I no longer have any plans to do Aztec and anyone should feel free to try it
Done with SMRPG's Logo intro. I think the song the sheet is mostly based on is called "The Sword Descends", which I believe plays at the end of the prologue when the logo appears. For some reason the first staff of the sheet on site is part of the actual intro of the game, which is called "In the Flower Garden". Not sure why they decided to put that in, but oh well. Will add this to submissions soon!

Nice work! Sorry for the wait on response, I'll be adding it to submissions for you right now ^^
Antenna Cradle (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/e4gyx857omnu80z/AABUvNQEnW4esaBTEY_7pslLa?dl=0) is not yet ready for submissions ( I have to add some dynamics and a repeat among other things), but I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on the forums on some decisions I've made so far, particularly m50-81's RH. This entire part is up an octave from what it is originally, and I am looking to see if anyone thinks for m50-64 if:
- The upper octave should just be removed despite the fact that a second voice is introduced in the m49 beat 4 pickup to 50
- The m62 and m63 chords are too high sounding
As for 65-81 I'm wondering if:
- The upper octave should be deleted, middle chord notes moved to their correct octave
All of these collisions between original RH pitches and the LH part could also technically be solved by putting the LH down an entire octave. Interested to hear what others have to say
Quote from: Kricketune54 on March 20, 2022, 09:09:12 AMAll of these collisions between original RH pitches and the LH part could also technically be solved by putting the LH down an entire octave.
My vote would be for this. I don't know if it's just the soundfont but the piano in the original sounds like it's that low anyway. It's certainly very bass-y. At least try it out to see what you think. I also think that they way it currently is is also fine.
While I'm here though I'll just point out a few other things I noticed (I know it's not finished yet):
-I don't hear the Gs in bars 73/81.
-'Composed' doesn't need a capital in your composer credits.
-The Cns on the last page should probably be B#s.

I did attempt this at the time but then forgot to save it and lost a bunch of work so gave up. Anyway, I finally got around to actually finishing this.

Yes, I'm hoping to finish that one at some point.
The following arrangements have been added to the initiative:

Over 4 months have passed but here is
Aztec Complex. I spent more time on this than I'm willing to admit lol "Easy" maybe wasn't the category for this one
m22-23 RH beats 1 and 2.5 are a combination of the guitar instrument part that was represented in m12 for example.
m32-39 added some chord notes to buff out this section a bit
The LH part throughout is a combination of the drums, as well as a much less audible low organ that makes up the bassline in the original.
I think the current pattern is a happy medium between difficulty and what is heard
I suppose the track could repeat at m74 but I think works better going four more bars and then going to m8

Yeah sorry if the difficulty categories don't quite match up. We did say that it might not in advance, since it's sometimes difficult to tell how hard something is to arrange without actually attempting it properly, but we felt that they would still be useful to have regardless. Anyway, thank you for the work!

It's been submitted for you now, sorry about the wait!
Also, we have 2 new sheets added to the initiative:
- Evergreen - Terranigma
- Smiles and Tears - EarthBound
Make that one, I have an abandoned arrangement of Smiles and Tears lying around somewhere...
I'd like to claim Evergreen, however...
The sheet on the site that is currently titled "Evergreen," is not actually an arrangement of Evergreen. In fact, it's not from Terranigma at all. I don't recognize it though, so if anyone else does I guess consider this an unofficial melody quiz of sorts.
In the meantime I'll be working on an arrangement of the track actually called Evergreen.
I have great news! After doing some sleuthing around the Internet, I was able to correctly identify the source of the "Evergreen Forest" sheet we have on-site for
Terranigma. The real track behind the arrangement is "Clash of Light and Shadow" (alternatively titled "Threat of Dark Gaia") from
Illusion of Gaia, composed by Yasuhiro Kawasaki. This game and
Soul Blazer are apparently considered Enix's unofficial predecessors to
Terranigma.
While I would normally volunteer myself to assist with this Replacement Initiative entry, I already have three sheets lined up for the next submission cycle, and I'm sure Static is more familiar with arranging this sort of music anyway. So I'll just leave it up to him or anyone else that wants to take it on. Cheers!
Ah, of course! I should've known, but it has been awhile since I've played this. Thank you for finding it!

Actually, we already have this sheet on-site under the correct game (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Other#sheet1437), also classed as an M on the audit. For this reason, I don't think replacing Evergreen Forest with this one is a good idea, but you can of course replace both separately.

In that case, Evergreen it is.
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand. Why are we putting priority on replacing "Evergreen" when a sheet for it never really existed in the first place? There's two copies of the Illusion of Gaia final boss sheet and neither of them are good.
There's not really an underlying reason aside from the fact that both sheets are separately in need of replacement, and the one currently listed in the initiative is Evergreen (even if the sheet's contents isn't Evergreen).
Then in that case the entry in question should be updated to reflect the real source, and the clone of it that is titled "Evergreen" should be deleted. Just my two cents, but my understanding is that this sheet was brought into the Replacement Initiative because of its contents, regardless of the title's accuracy.
Not saying Static shouldn't bother arranging the real "Evergreen" but in my opinion that can wait until the Illusion of Gaia sheet is replaced.
Alright, my arrangement of The Wind is Blowing at Cavi Cape (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/91c492s3ttd7q7w/AACDbrjeecrl863ZL6Tjq6sCa?dl=0) is ready to be posted here. Can't wait to have this one updated, I look forward to working on feedback.

Hey, sorry if this is confusing. Some similar situations have come in the past but I don't think we've made it super clear what to do with a mislabeled sheet that needs to be replaced.
When a sheet for track A is labeled as track B, there are two main lines of reasoning:
1 - Replace it with a sheet for track A and correct the labelling, because the content of what's being replaced is important. Any user who saw the old sheet and found it of poor quality will have a fresh sheet for the same piece of music.
2 - Replace it with a sheet for track B, because the original sheet was unfit for the site and we should deliver on the promise to offer a sheet for track B. Any user who saw that we offered track B on site and was confused will have a fresh sheet for what they were originally looking for.
I think we have examples of both we've done in the past. It's essentially the same question here, between whether to simply delete the Evergreen sheet because it is a mislabeled duplicate, or to replace it to maintain the site's listing of sheets.
As for my opinion? I actually don't mind either way, so I'll defer to the other updaters.

I actually have an arrangement (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/index.php?topic=9933.msg431941#msg431941)of this one. I may submit it soon. That way we can kill two birds with one stone.

I think for the Replacement Project, this is what I did for a couple mislabeled sheets. I think that makes the most sense if there's just one misnamed sheet. However, in this case there are also two copies under two games, so it might be worth just replacing both. Would like to hear others' thoughts before I submit Evergreen, but I don't really care much either way. I'd be fine submitting it as a normal, non-replacement initiative sheet since I was probably gonna do that at some point anyway even without the initiative.
I'll let NineLives handle Threat of Dark Gaia/Clash of Light and Shadow though, since I haven't started it.
I did "Lloyd's Theme" and will be submitting it shortly given that I still have 1 open spot (I guess replacement submissions aren't working atm? Or I otherwise can't figure it out). There were two recent soundtrack releases with an incomplete vinyl release in 2021 (VGMDB link (https://vgmdb.net/album/110088)) and a full soundtrack release in Feb 2023 for the remaster (Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/album/3Ww0UclZziAyyPLE5SBrcB) | iTunes (https://music.apple.com/jp/album/%E3%83%86%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB%E3%82%BA-%E3%82%AA%E3%83%96-%E3%82%B7%E3%83%B3%E3%83%95%E3%82%A9%E3%83%8B%E3%82%A2-%E3%82%AA%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B8%E3%83%8A%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A6%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%83%88%E3%83%A9%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF/1668055223?l=en-US)). The iTunes version has quite a few typos though, such as "Collet" instead of "Colette"
I will write a comment about the proper name for this theme in the submissions thread too, but "Lloyd's Theme" should be changed to "Lloyd". Also, my "Full force" arrangement on-site should have two capital F's. It kind of bothered me that the capitalization was different from the rest of the Tales of Symphonia sheets on site, so now there's not even any reason to leave it that way

In general, I don't see why not! However, we have the following rule for replacements: If you've made edits to an existing sheet you can only replace the on-site version with express permission from the original arranger.
Do you think you'd be able to/willing to make an arrangement on your own, instead? If you want to you could ask Zeila if they'd like to work on it with you :)
That makes sense! I did actually arrange this from scratch, though, as you can see the original sheet is very much different from what I have... I credited Riulyn mostly out of respect for the original arranger, but none of their work has actually been used. Should I just credit myself, then?
Ah, I see! Yes, in that case you should credit just yourself. It's unfortunate that the work of the old arranger will be lost but that's just how it is...
I understand, though please let me know if there's any way I can still credit the previous arranger, even as Special thanks or something similar! I've updated the files, so either way feel free to take a look at the arrangement whenever there's time
The new submission is up! As for crediting, even if it feels a little harsh that's just how things are. The old arrangement will continue to exist, after all, a replacement only changes the sheet available on the site (which should be the best one possible!)
4 sheets were replaced via the initiative this update, so 4 new ones have been added to fill their place! We encourage you to take a look...
I'd like to claim Statue Park.
Haven't done one of these in a while. I'll take a shot at Settle the Score with 006 (actually goes kinda hard ngl)
Despite the, um...
outdated look of the original sheet I think it held up pretty well. (Mainly because this isn't too difficult of a song) Anyway here's my replacement! Biggest issue was trying to fit some of the chords underneath, but shouldn't be too rough to go through I don't think :)
