Title: The Unofficial Mario Kart Fulfillment Project - ARRANGERS WANTED!
Post by: LeviR.star on February 12, 2022, 01:17:50 AM
Hello, everyone! As you probably know, Nintendo just announced at their most recent Nintendo Direct that we'd be getting a "Booster Course Pack" DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which will bring back a bunch of classic courses (or "retro tracks" if you're stuck in the old terminology, like me) into the game! It's this newfound hype that inspired me to put together a little somethin'-somethin', and I call it...

The Unofficial Mario Kart Fulfillment Project

(Apologies, I'm no good with names. At least it gets the point across, right?)

While I daydreamed about which classic courses they'd be porting from Tour remaking for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I realized just how irregular our sheet coverage is across the series (with a particular disdain for games like Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Kart 7). So, I've taken it upon myself to put together a list of course themes from the "mainline" games that we're missing, with a couple miscellaneous themes thrown in for good measure. I've made sure to include proposed sheets for classic course remixes (ex. GBA Ribbon Road), along with justification for each one as to why I think they need their own sheets. This means that I not only need your help arranging, but I also want to hear your feedback on this list! The more input, the better.

Enough babbling, here's the list I wrote up:

jesus that's a long list

[3DS] Mario Kart 7

Toad Circuit / Mario Circuit - Bloop, XiaoMigros
Daisy Hills - XiaoMigros
Cheep Cheep Lagoon
Shy Guy Bazaar - legoenthusiast
Wuhu Loop / Maku Wuhu (we should really just arrange the Wii Sports Resort main theme instead and call it a day)
Music Park
Rock Rock Mountain
Piranha Plant Slide - Static
Wario Shipyard
Neo Bowser City - legoenthusiast
DK Jungle
Rosalina's Ice World - XiaoMigros

Tour New York Minute
N64 Kalimari Desert
Tour Sydney Sprint
GBA Snow Land
Wii Mushroom Gorge
Sky-High Sundae
Battle Stadium
Lunar Colony
3DS Wuhu Town (this battle course now has its own fancy arrangement of the Wii Sports Resort theme; that was awfully considerate of them)
GCN Luigi's Mansion (instead of reusing the music from Bowser's Castle like the original did, this version is now an arrangement of "Luigi's Mansion" from Mario Kart DS)
Urchin Underpass (uses rearrangements of "Splattack!" and "Now or Never!" from Splatoon (duh); the latter of the two plays once one minute remains during a match)

[MOB] Mario Kart Tour

Paris Promenade
London Loop
Vancouver Velocity - Cashwarrior1

If you'd like to contribute to this cause, please post in the thread which sheets you'd like to try and take care of, and if you already have in-progress sheets you're willing to finish, make sure to mention those, too. I'll see to it that this post gets updated regularly, and as long as I'm around here, that's a promise. Now, here's a color code for each sheet's status:

Black: Not arranged, nor claimed; it's pretty much yours for the taking
Orange: Not arranged, but is claimed and, presumably, in-progress
Purple: Arranged, but in need of edits; may be claimed with permission
Blue: Arranged and in a suitable shape, but not on-site (yet...)
Lime Green: Arranged and on-site, and therefore, finished. Well done!

What are you waiting for? Don't just stand there, get claimin', get arrangin', but for God's sake, do somethin'!

Quote from: LeviR.star on February 12, 2022, 01:17:50 AM(no offense, Bloop, but this sheet's a bit outdated. Maybe it just needs an edit?)
No offense taken, it's definitely not a good sheet :p I actually fixed that arrangement just recently and updated the link in my arrangement thread, I just haven't submitted it yet. Here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnpsd3xgj5u2rnh/MKW%20-%20Moo%20Moo%20Meadows.zip?dl=0) is a link to it! Also, I have MK7's Toad Circuit (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6w71242mdgv0sbz/MK7%20-%20Toad%20Circuit.zip?dl=0) already finished as well (with some fairly recent fixes too I think)

Aside from that, I'll definitely do some arrangements for this! For now I'd like to claim MKWii's Dry Dry Ruins and MK64's Banshee Boardwalk. There's definitely more I'll be willing to do, but I'll hold off on that for now if anyone else wants to do some of them too :

Might give a GBA sheet a shot. It'd be fun for sure

I've covered a good portion of these in my arrangements thread (link in this comment's footer), however quality varies greatly. If I end up helping out with this I might just submit cleaned up versions of what I've already done (and if anyone else would like to use my stuff to make their own subs, they can do that too!)

You can mark GBA Rainbow Road and DS Shroom Ridge blue, since I did those awhile back.

I think (almost) all the MK8 retro courses could use their own sheets. Even ones that sound similar have a lot of subtle differences, such as N64 Royal Raceway. The only one's I'd probably not include are the 3DS ones and Grumble Volcano, but I guess Music Park is already on site...
Also, Shy Guy Falls could also use a replacement I think. Even though it's a relatively recent sheet, there's a lot of things that sound a bit off.

Finally, I'd like to claim Piranha Plant Slide and Circuit (GBA). Idk when I'll get around to finishing those, but I've had half-finished sheets laying around for a long time.

I finished an arrangement for the latter recently, but I guess you can do it yourself if you want

I went through my sheets and basically separated them into 3 categories of usefulness for the project:

Type A: Practically ready for submission
  • Toad Circuit (Replacement)
  • Frappe Snowland / Sherbet Land
  • DK's Jungle Parkway
  • Circuit (Super Circuit) [note: have to updated the score]
  • Yoshi Falls
  • (Wii) Luigi Circuit / Mario Circuit
  • Chain Chomp Wheel
  • GBA Mario Circuit
  • Bowser's Castle (MK8)
[close]
Type B: Sheets that are OK, but not very accurate or playable
  • Rainbow Road (Super Circuit)
  • Shroom Ridge
  • Ghost Valley
  • Bowser Castle (SNES)
  • DK Mountain / Dino Dino Jungle
  • Peach Beach / Daisy Cruiser
  • Cheep Cheep Beach
  • Desert Hills
  • Figure-8 Circuit / Mario Circuit
  • Mushroom Gorge
  • Toad's Factory
  • Wario's Gold Mine
  • Bowser's Castle (DS)
[close]
Type C: Complete and utter garbage. These basically need completely redoing
  • Moo Moo Meadows (Replacement)
  • Shy Guy Beach / Cheep Cheep Island (I had nearly finished an update, but kinda gave up)
  • Cheese Land
  • Waluigi Stadium / Wario Colosseum (Replacement)
  • Bowser's Castle (Double Dash)
  • DK Pass
  • Dry Dry Ruins (I'll let Bloop redo this)
  • Moonview Highway (Replacement)
  • Daisy Hills
  • Rosalina's Ice World (though I am nearly done with an update to move this to type A)
  • Electrodome
  • Hyrule Circuit
  • Mario Kart Stadium
  • Rainbow Road (MK8)
  • [NEW] Shy Gull Falls (Replacement)
  • Thwomp Ruins
  • Twisted Mansion
[close]

Anyone can use whatever they want from here really, I doubt I can do them all (and some parts of Type C stuff might even be useful!). I did this from memory so the list may be a little off, but it should do.

This is very helpful, Xiao, thank you for this valuable information. Given that a large number of these sheets are in need of edits, I've decided to add a new category to the color key: purple, which shall be used to label sheets that are already finished, but not up-to-snuff. For now, I'll be giving this label to most of your Type B and C arrangements, and I'll hand over the responsibility for some of the "shared" sheets to the other arranger involved. (ex. Static is now the sole arranger of "Shroom Ridge", and NineLives is the only arranger attached to "Shy Guy Beach / Cheep Cheep Island")

I'd like to claim several Mario Kart sheets myself, but as the creator of this thread, I don't that'd be fair without me waiting a couple more days. Make sure to communicate with other arrangers, and if you're willing to claim more, help yourself!

Banshee Boardwalk was a fun one to do, it's way more arrangement-like than the usual transcription-like arrangements :p

Nice listing! A suggestion, if you may, would be to link to an OST source for each game for a quick lookup?

Anyway, I have a Yoshi Falls sheet on my arrangement thread that I think is pretty ready for submission. Other than that, for new stuff, I can do Cheese Land. Maybe other stuff too but I'll see what I feel like when I feel like arranging some Mario Kart ^^

Also, I can help XiaoMigros get Wii's Circuit theme ready for submission, that looks like it's in pretty good shape and it's definitely one of the main ones we don't have.

At quick glance, I think this should be in F#m and not Bbm? It does have some weird alterations later on, but at least m1-12 are really F#m based.

The ending measures of the Mario Kart 64 Bowser's Castle theme sound like they're in B flat minor, so I think a key signature change partway through is best.

Great job!

One thing: to make those measures more readable, I'd prefer to see Bars 33-40 be notated in E major and Bars 41-48 in F major. Those excerpts start with quotes of each other a semitone apart, so they sound like they have key changes to me, and you can switch to Bar 49's F major earlier this way.

Solid sheet, my man! I'll mark it as done.

Update: 10 new sheets have been added to this list! They are:

[MOB] Mario Kart Tour

GBA Sunset Wilds
GBA Sky Garden

[SW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tour Paris Promenade
3DS Toad Circuit
N64 Choco Mountain
Wii Coconut Mall
Tour Tokyo Blur
DS Shroom Ridge
GBA Sky Garden
Tour Ninja Hideaway

I still don't think arranging some of these new remixes is necessary but I'll include them anyway

The new Coconut Mall remix changes one note in the sax solo (for seemingly no reason). Would that warrant an extra sheet (or just a note in the Wii version  :P)?

I like the idea of adding a performer's note about that to Static's "Coconut Mall", up to him of course.

Update: 8 new sheets have been added to this list! They are:

[MOB] Mario Kart Tour

Amsterdam Drift
Bangkok Rush

[SW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tour New York Minute
N64 Kalimari Desert
Tour Sydney Sprint
GBA Snow Land
Wii Mushroom Gorge
Sky-High Sundae

For now, I'll only be omitting SNES Mario Circuit 3 (because it is mostly identical) and DS Waluigi Pinball (because it is the same as DS Wario Stadium). I haven't the energy to decide if the other remixes are worth leaving out, so I'll keep them in unless anyone has an objection.
