Title: Notepad 2009
Post by: random_goldfish on September 04, 2008, 04:14:09 PM
So...has anyone else heard the news? You have to pay 10 bucks for the download and they're eliminating all previous versions...please, I welcome you're opinions...I'm personally ticked off a little...$10 isn't bad but it defeats what Notepad stood for...free download, haha.

are you serious?? that's terrible, i guess too many were downloading notepad and not buying the actual product maybe...

in any case... i guess i'll have to go the torrent way again eventually...

I guess now is the time to start looking into the Finale Reader thing I showed you all before ::)

Yeah, Notepad 2009 will have new features, but will also cost $10.  Finale Reader will be provided for free download, but all you can do with it is view, listen to, and print sheets.  I think it's a really lame thing for them to do.  A lot of people will probably just end up torrenting the new Notepad anyway...

WHAT THE CRAP!!! When I'm already stretched on finances, there appeares a new $10 NotePad fee. Why would they do this?

It's a monopoly, they just found a way to suck money from us yet again. Let's all give them the finger (i. e. viruses).

Haha...Fianle probably caught on to the fact that everyone illegally downloads their software...and adding a fee is going to do what exactly? More illegal downloads?

Finale has realized that they make a good product that people will be willing to pay a fee for...I don't know...if they're going to make me pay a fee...they better let me use more then 8 effing staffs.

Time to make a mediafire installer of each version...
Title: Re: Notepad 2009

I agree...giving 2009 a fee is one thing but making any previous version unavailable is another.

This really sucks.  >:( Cmon finale, what do u think youre gonna do??  The only way that this will be ok is if finale 2008 will be able to read later finale files.  (which it wont).  If theyre charging money, the program better be an improvement!

You can still download 2001-8 on the site though.
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: random_goldfish on September 06, 2008, 09:46:12 AM
For the time being you can download them...as soon as they issue 2009 in a few weeks they're going to take them down.

They're also releasing a free programme called Finale Reader. It can open any file but you can only play and save...no edit.

Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: random_goldfish on September 06, 2008, 08:35:41 PM
As long as you have it downloaded to your computer I'm sure you can still use it, but if at any point you need to download it in the future you'll probably have to use a torrent.

I'm sure the site will find a way to work around all this.
Title: Re: Notepad 2009

I'm sure people will host old versions of notepad on other sites anyways.

I've got 2006-2008 for Windows, and 2007-2008 for Mac all on my Mediafire. Have the serials, too. On their site, all they say is their going to stop hosting all previous versions. :/
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: Tranzlater on September 07, 2008, 06:52:32 AM
I guess what they said does make sense and 10 bucks isn't bad, but still, they should just stop adding more features to notepad otherwise it's just gonna be exactly the same as songwriter.
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: KefkaticFanatic on September 07, 2008, 07:15:56 AM
Except that now there is no free version of Notepad for new arrangers, which would keep many people away from arranging without falling to piracy.  Not that that's a bad thing.
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: Tranzlater on September 07, 2008, 07:26:58 AM
I guess. And then people might as well download Finale 2009 while they're there anyway, therefore costing Finale ALOT.

i mean, it's not like there's anythin wrong with the ones we use, right?
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: random_goldfish on September 07, 2008, 11:06:28 AM
If some people on the site decides to use 2009; however, the people that only have 2008 will not be able to open their files. You'll have to get the free Finale Reader download when it comes out to open those files. Other then that, continuing to work on 2008 will be just fine.

and well... I went insane looking for sheet music ANY sheet music that'd work on there, cause finale is such an epic product.... and I found you guys...

now that it costs $10... less people'll get it :\ and that means potentially less kids will find NSM.... like JaMaHa said...

Ive download Finale 2009 in the site isohunt.com. they have a lot of torrents.
But somehow, the Makemusic company discovered the way to cheat the Finale registration... So I use Finale 2008, cuz I couldnt regist F2009.
But theres a lot of goold torrents of Finale 2008

I think I'm going to be buying, yes buying, the full version of Finale 2009 in the next few weeks. I get a 300 dollar discount for being a college student and an owner of Notepad 2009. I'm really excited to see how my composition and arrangement skills can improve! And I can't wait to use GPO! Wee!
Title: Re: Notepad 2009

dont expect too much from Finale 2008... I mean, its more simple to use it but the new stuff are very scarce... I think its the best finale ever but who owns the 2008 version, I think they should keep it for more time. And the GPO have a lot of instruments now, but the sound is the same.

ive discovered that exists an addictional stuff like GPO, but instead of the GPO sounds, its the Berlin Symphony Orchestra sounds! And guess the price? Just 20,000$! So cheap! :P:P:P:P

I disagree. They were making no money when Finale Notepad was free, and I doubt every single person is going to pirate it. If at least one person buys the new one, they'll have made more money than they did with 2008 notepad.

Also, I'm pretty miffed at this whole situation too. Oh well, piracy isn't that hard...

I may or may not have recently pirated the full version of Finale 2009.

All I can say is that, if I did, I most likely would have been disappointed by the instrument volume, and saddened that I couldn't simply use PrintMusic/Notepad 2008 to read all the new 2009 finale files.

I found out that having Printmusic and Finale Full is a good idea. Print music allows you to make good quality mp3's. I can't seem to find out how to do it on Finale Full yet. But I used to own both. Oh, and Printmusic also allows you to change the reverb settings. Its good to have both, I think anyway.

Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: Brassman388 on May 09, 2009, 02:29:19 AM
The only things that I like about sibelius is that the dynamic contrast is waaayyy better. Plus that, from a visual standpoint, sibelius also wins that one. Another thing is that sibelius can read MUS. files, which is a plus. Other than that, Finale wins the sound award.

Both programs are good.

Title: Re: Notepad 2009

The Notepad versions always stay the same. Its printmusic, allegro, or Finale Full that you want.

Here's the order of the different versions.

Notepad
Printmusic
Allegro
Finale Full

(I didn't include songwriter because it's just a usless version)

I'm not entirely sure how many staves you can use as you go up, but I know for a fact that you get to use more.

Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: pumpy_heart on May 22, 2009, 02:02:39 PM
Finale/Sibelius should not be judged upon how they sound. They are sheeting writing programs, not MIDI programs.
If you want, go buy a set of MIDIs.
I used Sibelius at school the past year for AP Music Theory. And I have to say, it should be implemented onto the site.
It is much easier to write/compose/arrange with than Finale. Its interface and shortcuts are much preferable to finally. Very easy to use.
At least allow the option for .sib to be uploaded (when that comes back..)
To solve other concerns, it's only 10 bucks for the new Finale. If you don't wish to spend such a low cost for a genuine product, then maybe arranging isn't the best thing for you...

Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: Brassman388 on May 22, 2009, 02:09:31 PM
Very easy to learn. I'm still trying to learn sibelius.
Title: Re: Notepad 2009
Post by: pumpy_heart on May 23, 2009, 11:50:43 AM
Again...judging on sound quality shouldn't be used...Both programs can input better Midis.
Meh. Sibelius is much quicker when you learn it..which takes approximately as long to learn the keyboard shortcuts on Finale.
It's personal choice, which is another reason why both should be offered.
