Title: How do you convert a .Mus to a .MP3
Post by: Gooch on February 10, 2009, 06:12:47 PM
The name says it all. I need to convert a sheet to MP3 form and have no clue how. I know you cant do it on Notepad, so i have full Finale at my service.

All I have is notepad, so I'm not familiar with all of the features of full finale, but if you really need to you can get audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)) and the add-on mp3 encoder (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3 (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3)) and just plug your headphone jack into your microphone jack with a male-to-male 3.5mm audio cable (like this one http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Cable-ft/dp/B0002ZPJZO (http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Cable-ft/dp/B0002ZPJZO)).  simply press record in audacity and then play in notepad and then export as an mp3.  It's consistent and pretty easy, but prolly not as good quality as most other ways.

Hope that helped

You could also save the file as a midi file (if you have finale notepad 2008, which is downloadable for free) and then use a midi to mp3 converter... there are several ones out there, most of them demo versions, that can be used for 30 days... And if you use one that supports different soundfonts the quality is awsome. :)

You go to File>Save as Audio file. Then just change the extension from .WMA to .MP3

But if you have full finale, when you save as an audio file, be sure to copy paste all your notes into garritan instruments as opposed to normal instruments, then record that. They sound better.

kotorfanboy, there is an easier way.  if you go to midi/audio > instrument setup > vst instruments, you can change the channels of all of your instruments to instruments for finale 2009. then click edit and choose the proper garriton version of the instruments, and make sure to check play finale through vst in the midi/audio thing.  I know that it sounds complicated, but if you have done it a lot like i have, it is a real time saver rather than creating a whole new file with the proper instruments and copying and pasting.
