I thought you were talking about a sequel to the terrible movie that just came out, that would have been shocking and depressing.

well, theyre still going to have the next two chapters made into movies, too, according to M. Night.
as far as that goes, they better redeem themselves because I was greatly disappointed with it, too.

It would seem you beat me to making a topic on this.

I heard about this a couple months ago. While I would love to have seen them continue Aang's storyline from where it left off, considering the number of unanswered questions, as well as future plots they left us with(ex. Zuko trying to locate his mother). So it is a bit of a disappointment in that regard, but the fact that they are continuing the Avatar series is just amazing.

Knowing the genius behind the series, they'll know how to tie all the lose ends left by the original series, most likely with perfect execution.

On another note, I watched the first ten minutes of the movie, would have thrown up if I was forced to bare any more of it. So the fact that there even a possibility of them continuing the movie series, especially under Shamalalalan is just appalling.

*bump*

So the planned number of episodes for Legend of Korra has more than doubled! WOOT! The current number is now 26(it was 12 before). Hopefully they raise it once more(at least).

But unfortunately the show has been pushed back to next year. It had originally planned to premier this fall. But I can wait that long for this.

Also, this time around all the episodes are being written by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko(the creators of Avatar), where as in the original series episodes had various writer from episode to episode(but the head writer for all of them was Aaron Ehasz). But I'd say this change is a good thing because most of my favorite episodes were written by Koniezko and DiMartino.

And now for some wicked fan art:

OMG JUST WATCHED IT WITH SOUND. THIS LOOKS SO EPIC.

I probably won't love it as much as the orignal series. and I still would have proffered a direct sequel to the Last Airbender with all the original people we loved(Aang, Katara, ect.). AND BY GOD THEY LEFT SO MANY LOOSE ENDS AT THE END OF THE SERIES.

But I really don't like how modernized it all looks. I mean, it's only been like 70 or 80 years since Avatar: The Last Airbender. And quite a bit of the city could have easily passed as being in the 21st century rather than some ancient past. I mean flashbacks from the original series that go back, like, 300 years show very little change in the world. But I suppose technology and architectural booms(specifically after choatic, destructive wars) are a very real thing, which could explain such a change.

But never the less, the show will still blow my mind I'm sure.

EDIT: Just watched through it again. There is electricity. And cars. That's pushing it, big time. Next thing you know, she's gonna be fighting guys with machines guns. :-\

Never really got into the original series. Watched a lot of the episodes, and I know the story, but I never loved it all that much, plus I just always had other stuff to watch/do. It's definitely one of the more refined and overall good cartoons out there, though.

Just in case, plot overview.

QuoteThe series will focus on Korra, a teenage female protagonist from the Southern Water Tribe and the current incarnation of the Avatar, who, according to the president of Nickelodeon, will be "hotheaded, independent, and ready to take on the world." She has already mastered the elements of Water, Earth, and Fire, but needs to master Air. The character was partly inspired by Avatar Kyoshi of the original series, who the creators say was very popular among fans. In order to avoid repetition of Aang's adventures, the creators wanted to root the show in one place, called United Republic, a steam-punk style metropolis where people of all nations, benders and non-benders, live together, founded by Aang and Zuko and built after the 100 year war. The city's police are metalbenders led by Toph's daughter and taught by Toph herself. A group of anti-benders, called the Equalists, use chi blocking skills to subdue their enemies. A concept drawing of the city, released with the announcement of the series, shows the city's design as inspired by Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s, Hong Kong, Manhattan, and Vancouver. There are Pro-Bending teams, but Airbending is not included. In the show, Korra will have to learn Airbending from master Tenzin, son and youngest child of Avatar Aang and Katara, and contend with an anti-bender revolution taking place in United Republic. The final design of Korra was revealed at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, along with her Animal Guide, who will be a Polar Bear Dog called Naga. Aang has found a new breed of flying bison after the war, and there will also be new flying lemurs called Ring-Tailed Winged Lemurs. They will not appear much until the second season.

I'm so excited for this! I loved Avatar!

I wish, like others, that some loose ends were tied. What happened to Azula is my main question. She's my favorite character. I know she got locked up but did she escape? Did she stay silently? Makes me wonder.  ???
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: SuperFireKirby on August 19, 2011, 12:24:37 PM
probably locked up like Ozai.

So is The United Republic actually the final name or is it just like, a project name for the city? I really hope so considering the name is boring(much like the city from what the trailer shows). :-\

I really hope I'm super wrong about this show and that its insanely awesome. But with every new detailing, I find myself less and less excited aboot it.  But even so, I still am at a level where I can't wait for it to come oot. It would take a major disappointment to really bring me down.

So there are rumors floating around that Legend of Korra might be pushed back to 2013. They're still just rumors and nothing has been said by any of the concept artists for the show on DA and no official statements have been released by anyone else working on the show. So let's hope the rumor is completely false.

Ultra-Bump.

So Nickelodeon has decided to troture me(and anyone else who is a fan) by releasing a few minute-long clips from the show, both of which(as well as some other nifty stuff) can be found:

HERE (http://korranation.tumblr.com/post/18820128707/the-white-lotus-travel-to-a-distant-village-to)
and
HERE (http://korranation.tumblr.com/post/18902720728/korra-and-her-team-the-fire-ferrets-hit-the)

The podcast Operation Kino also did a 40 minute interview with the Track Team, who are responsible for every song and sound that goes into the show. They're done with 7 episodes so far, and if Korra goes by the 20 episode season that Airbender went by, I think it's safe to say the wait isn't too much longer.

In case you're a nerd like me and want to listen to it: http://korranation.tumblr.com/post/18666819891/an-extended-podcast-with-a-tla-and-legend-of-korra

Pro-bending is kinda like boxing. You use it to knock opponents out of the ring. It's very physical compared to the spiritual aspect of bending.

To elaborate a bit more on what Neebles was saying, Pro-bending is very boxing-ish because it uses short, powerful strikes in rapid bursts. Also, they way their feet move is almost entirely like that of most boxing styles. Because of constraints and regulations in pro-bending, traditional styles wouldn't be nearly as effective, just as you wouldn't see someone using kung fu in a boxing ring(though that would be freaking awesome).

New episode was pretty awesome. Legend of Korra definitely has more of a series format than The Last Airbender did. Though it was, without a doubt, a series, Airbender had many episodes that didn't develop the plot very much(besides Book 2, which had almost zero filler). Korra will probably still have a few episodes like that, I would guess, but it seems like it's going to stick much more strictly to the plot.

It would probably make more sense for it to be Makko and Korra and Bo Lin finds some random girl, who then becomes part of the group. It would make complications be much less...complicated. Heck, it could turn out Asami has it in with the Equalists, it sure would simplify love stuff.

Just my thoughts. ::)(wait...that technically means I'm part of team makorra....dang it)

oho. So one of my friends was talking semi-sarcastically about the whole "teams" thing when he informed me of the atrocity know as Team Makolin. Oh humanity, you always find a new way to disappoint me. :(

BUT NEW EPISODE IN 2 DAYS. It shall be the opposite of disappointing.

But this was possibly my favorite episode yet. The action scenes, especially those towards the end, were marvelous.

It's definitely much darker than A:TLA was. I find it to be a nice change and it definitely sets itself apart from the first series in a big way because of it.

I do hope they have a few sillier episodes soon, because having every episode be the Book 2 finale of A:TLA(you know, where Ba Sing Se gets conquered and Aang dies for a few minutes) is a little too much for me, but at the same time NOT ENOUGH.

SO has anyone heard of the Cabbage Man's Son theory? It's truly amazing.

Things we know about the Cabbage Man:

a. He probably has great disdain for the Avatar and those associated with the Avatar, due to his cabbage's constantly being destroyed by Avatar related shenanigans.

2. He was most likely not a bender, due to his inability to protect his cabbages from said shenanigans and he never bended during the show.

3. He most likely is dead, but could have had children who are alive. Chances are they are not benders. Chances are even greater that he passed down his hate for the Avatar and benders in general, since they are the cause the destruction of his cabbages all but one time(when they are eaten by a platypus bear), to his offspring.

d. Such a family that hates benders could have easily gotten into a confrontation with a fire bender, resulting in the Cabbage Man's child being burned in the face.

5. The creators said that the cabbage man's son would play a role in Korra.

Therefore, Amon must be the Cabbage Man's Son!

Anyone else read the Probending Rule Book? You can get the PDF by playing through the Welcome To Republic City game, which I recommend playing to anyone who wishes to know more about the city and the 70 years between the two series. It's very informative, especially for all them avatar noobs.

So far all of my predictions were correct.  I was kind of disappointed though, because I made all of those predictions after like the second episode.  This series seems just a bit too easy to predict :P

Tried to Rayray, but I just can't summarize the plot in a way that would take me less than 45 minutes to an hour. I like details. Maybe someone else can help ya out.

Anyways, I'm still blown away by how awesome the last episode was. And while the show's humor is hanging by a thread named Bo Lin, the overall epicness of the show just keeps increasing with each episode. Can't wait to see what goes down next week.

While this is kid of true, the level at which the show is executed pretty much negates it, because even on things I knew would happen, I still found myself being surprised and shocked.

NEW EPISODES EVERY SATURDAY AT 11:00 AM.

Anyways, is it possible that Tarlock is Hama's son? Because as far as I know, only Katara and Hama knew blood bending. Katara viewed bloodblending as an awful technique and would never teach it to anyone else, and Hama was probably imprisoned for the rest of her life after being defeated by Katara. She may have taught someone in prison who then passed it down to Tarlock, or taught Tarlock or someone who would eventually teach Tarlock prior to her capture.

yeah, I have a feeling about that too... that Korra is going to find a way or something. I'm really interested to see who Aman really is.. :O and if we will find out in the finale or find out next season.. and what about her air bending? have they just put that on hold? We havent really seen her carry it out a whole lot yet..

Well with a destroyed police force, 3 kidnapped council members, the 4th fleeing to get his family to safety, and a full scale war occuring within a single city, I'd say they put the whole airbending thing on hold. ::)

BUT SHE NEEDS TO TALK TO AANG, GOSH DARNIT. OR GET SOME HARDCORE SPIRIT MAGIC UP IN HERE. Maybe a giant amphibian made out of water or something, that would show Amon who's boss.

Speaking of Amon...

Post by: SuperFireKirby on June 24, 2012, 11:45:18 AM
The first season is. :'(

Actually, to anyone who wants to know why every single loose end in Korra got tied up, it's because Book One was originally the entire show. LoK was supposed to be only a 12 episode mini-series. But Nickelodeon decided to be awesome and greenlight a second season about a year and a half ago(I remember the announcement, I was SO excited to find out they were extending it) which is why the release date was pushed back to April. But now, after seeing how amazingly well Korra's first season did in the ratings(#1 show in the 12-17 group every single week), there's no way they wouldn't be willing to greenlight a third season.

I'M A WAITING 2 MORE DAYS BEFORE I SPOIL EVERYTHING, UNLESS YOU BEG FOR MERCY.(me and Nebby have got things to discuss)

I'd like to congratulate all members of team Makorra, as I have done everywhere else on the internet. I was rooting for Borra, I really was. But it seemed pretty inevitable from the get go that it was gonna be Korra and Mako. Also, WHY TARRLOCK, WHYYYY?(probably to get rid of his family's terrible bloodbending so it couldn't terrorize the earth ever again, but still)

I've been running through all the episodes(again) and I've noticed something. Not only is Bo Lin a total beast in every way, he's also essential to keeping Korra a "light hearted kids show" instead of "TOTAL DARKNESS AND DESPAIR show". That and he's just hilarious in every sense. It's like Brychael sat down and said,"Let's create the most amusing character a television show has ever seen" and Bo Lin was the final result.

And after rereading the above paragraph, I see that I sound just like a silly hardcore fangirl. But I don't mind, cuz Avatar is almost as beauteous as the bush recently procurred by Moogu.

That's when I remembered reading on Avatar Wiki that there were seven confirmed deaths in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Twi wasn't one of them. Should a spirit's death count as a death, because I kinda want to amend the article on Avatar wiki.

I'm sosorry Whirr. Maybe someday you will no longer be stoopid. But we can only hope.

Anyways, has anyone else here read The Promise graphic novels? If you haven't I highly recommend it. But I was a little confuzzled by the fact that they brought back a character I thought would never see the light of day again. Who, you say? Sneers.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. Who the heck is Sneers? Well, he was the 6th, and least important, of the named Freedom Fighters. He probably got a total of 20 seconds of screen time in Book 1, Episode 10 and had zero dialogue. But then, through some crazy shenanigans, they brought him back in The Promise Pt. 2, gave him dialogue, and made him semi-important. I personally can think of 2 million characters I would rather see brought back, you know, the one's we actually cared about and didn't completely forget existed 15 seconds after they were introduced. I guess this is what happens when you leave the writing to some random guy and not Brychael or Aaron Ehasz

Yes, April Stewart, a voice actor who will be in Season 2(and also has an awesome coincidence of a name) kind of possibly leaked that it will be released in april on her Twitter saying that we'll "have to wait until April"

Thank the lord there's Doctor Who to help keep my mind distracted from the wait for season 2.

JANET VARNEY HAS OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED SEASON TWO WILL BE COMING OUT IN SPRING.

In other news, the LOK Season One DVD is on it's way! Mike, Bryan, and others just finished up DVD commentary sessions a few days ago, so I think we'll be seeing a release date for the DVD fairly soon!

IN OTHER NEWS, The Search Part 1 comic comes out March 26th in comic stores and April 2nd everywhere else(such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble). Can't wait to finally find out what happened to Ursa!

BUT AT LEAST SEASON 1 DVD WILL BE OUT SOON WITH LOADS OF AWESOME COMMENTARY.

Yes.

Despite all its flaws, LOK Season 1 did exactly what a first season should do.It introduced the setting, characters, and atmosphere in an interesting way. Plus, this was originally the WHOLE show. They didn't plan for another season until the asshats at Nickelodeon finally approved Season 2 a year into production.

Was it as good as ATLA? No. Was the animation for it freakin flawless though? You bet your sweet ass it was.

I can excuse other things (the cop out with Korra getting her bending back, yadda yadda) but ugh I hated how Makorra was handled. So much. It did not set well with me.
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: SuperFireKirby on January 19, 2013, 09:43:14 PM
Same. If I had to be honest, I suppose I'm a bit of a closet Borra(I think that's it) shipper. But regardless, the whole relationships story arch was kinda awful.

Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: Nebbles on January 19, 2013, 09:57:02 PM

Bolin could be good, but he's been shoved aside for "token comic relief" at this point so....
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: Bubbles on January 19, 2013, 10:01:27 PM
Bolin better get more screentime :(

Obviously the series would end with Makorra, but I could see them splitting them up for a season or two (sort of like Zuko and Mai). I don't really know where I stand, just as long as its NOT Linorra, whatever Tenzin and Korra is, and Amorra

Seriously where do people even come up with this stuff

It's just wierd, I guess. Kinda like Korramon shippers. Or Tuki(or whatever of Toph/Suki one was). If there was a gay relationship in the show, I'd have no problem. But when people fanship it, I usually think it's for more disgusting reasons.

Yeahhhhh. When Bolin was introduced, I thought he was going to be the pompous, likeable jerk from the first bit of Ep. 2. But he turned out to be the naive goof. And Mako was the cool-guy jerk at first, but then just turned into a regular jerk. I don't like Mako very much.

YAY.

IN OTHER NEWS:

THE SEARCH, PART 1 IS IN COMIC SHOPS THIS WEDNESDAYYYYYYYYYY.

ALSO, no release date for Book 2 is set yet. Nickelodeon isn't even acknowledging its existence. The only info we have is that little scraps of info that people working on the show, like Mike and Bryan, are allowed to release.  :-\

WE DO KNOW:
- The Track Team started working on the show's score a few weeks back. Last year, by the time the Track Team had finished music through Ep. 6, the premier date was set for a bit more than a month afterwords.
- Bryan is complaining about not liking color correction, a final step in animation.

So HOPEFULLY we'll get something in a few weeks.

Book 2 is turning out to be absolutely phenomenal so far. Especially Varrick. I FREAKING LOVE VARRICK. Hands down the best character of LOK, aside from maybe Tahno's hair. Tahno's hair is perfect in every way.

I reckon the whole Unalaq civil war story will be wrapped up in a few episodes and then we'll get the Spirits arch. I really, really want all the spiritual stuff to be the meat of the season(it is called Spirits after all).

I wasn't all that impressed until the last episode. For the first two episodes I was kinda pissed at the miraculous character development mako had undergone over the last 6 months that we conveniently didn't get to see. That and it seemed like they were so focused on making his relationship with makorra seem realistic that they generated stereotypical relationship conflict,  rather than conflict unique to their characters. Also, in episode 3, I was afraid they were gonna make varrick unlikable. But, episode 4 was very promising, and I love the direction it's headed into (and varrick is ridiculously likable, so yeah)

Quote from: Nebbles on October 02, 2013, 05:08:17 AMSeason 2 hasn't impressed me at all. Korra's turned into a giant brat, Bolin is nothing but a joke character, I still hate Mako, I hate Makorra, and they're treating anyone that isn't Korra and Mako like crap because lmao their sooper speshul romance is end all be all of course
Do get this. But I can only console you on the Bolin part because, according to Mike, Bolin is gonna undergo some major character development.

Ok wait a minute. I don't think this is so bad. Hold up, SFK.
Spoiler
I wouldn't call Varrick the bad guy just yet. I mean, at the very least, he's still not as "bad" as he was before, when he, I don't know, SPARKED A CIVIL WAR. But I mean, he's still fighting against a ridiculously villainous character, Unalaq. I think this is actually pretty nice, because here we have two opposing sides, both of whom have a potential "good" in mind (for Unalaq, it's the balance of the spirits, and for Varrick, it's the freedom of the south), while also being complex characters with underlying selfish motives. I think they're trying to continue the nice shift they had from ATLA to LOK in the first place; rather than an unquestionably villainous character like Ozai, they're trying to make complex characters with complex goals in mind. With Amon, for a while, you could see the actual harm that benders could have on non-benders, and could, if only slightly, see his claimed point of view. (EDIT: Hahahahahahahaha it's so ridiculous that they just left us to assume that all of that social unrest had entirely died down within the past 6 months, despite no apparent change in the actual mindsets of benders; at least, to the point where it is no longer an existing conflict within the show.) And now, there are two sides with this aspect attributed to both of them. It's fucking beautiful. I still side with Varrick (I'm pretty sure he's still my favorite character) more than I do with Unalaq, but I can't wait to see how that comparison shifts as the series progresses.

I see your point Fierce. But just want to point out Ozai was pretty much the only villain in ATLA with no redeemable qualities. Every other bad guy, including Azula, had complex personalities and motives.

Also, Nebby, quit bein such a sour puss and just enjoy the show!

Meh. I didn't mind. It's nice to know that mike and bryan are actually trying to make things realistic, but not crazy over the top like they did last season.
Spoiler
It's not like feelings like that just disappear. Honestly, if they HADN'T indicated that asami still had feelings for mako, I'd have been pissed. That's just assuming her to be too perfect It's kinda like how I was mad about the whole bender-non bender conflict magically disappearing overnight, except with this conflict they actually reminded us that things don't work out that easily.

Oh, and as for this:
Quote from: SuperFireKirby on October 12, 2013, 09:44:53 AMOzai was pretty much the only villain in ATLA with no redeemable qualities.

I mean, yeah, I guess he was, but...he's still the main villain, and a clearly evil entity which, by all logic, should be opposed. Same goes for azula, really, it's more just that she was batshit crazy. Some reason was given for her being crazy, but she's still unquestionably evil in her current state. There was no opposition of ideals which can actually be questioned like there has been in LOK.

Spoiler
I don't think the love triangle is necessarily back. I'm sure they're going to do stuff with Korra's memory loss and Mako, and the Asami thing was just the final nail in the coffin for the end of Mako and Asami's relationship. The kiss made her feelings apparent as well as Mako's, since he was pretty uncomfortable with the whole thing and clearly didn't enjoy it. Like Fierce said, it'd be weird if they just pretended everything was ok between them and that she didn't still have feelings for him.

As for Bolin, fame is getting to his head. The kiss wasn't supposed to be comic relief, humor, or anything like that. It did exactly what it was supposed to: make you mad. Bolin is slowly becoming an ass and will probably stay that way until he realizes Varrick's secret and realizes everything is a lie

And while they could have easily made a work around so the Korra could save Jinora, by having her stay captured and making Vatu a true threat by opening the northern portal, the stakes are now raised infinitely higher. DRAMATIC ELEMENTS ARE IMPORTANT.

So the Book 3 premier was alright. And by alright, what I mean is REALLY FUCKING GOOD.

Seriously, everything that brought Book 2 down(an extremely unfocused plot, completely 2-dimensional characters aside from Varrick who is awesome, Unalaq) is completely absent from Book 3 thus far. Korra isn't spending 90% of the time complaining, Bolin isn't pure comic relief, no more Makorrasami bullshit(other than treating the whole thing as a joke, which is GREAT), and Zaheer is fuckin' BAD ASS.

Oh and GREY DELISLE IS BACK! Seriously having high hopes for this season.

The last two episodes oh my gawd.

Spoiler
Like, seriously. I'd be wondering how Lin had gotten those scars since pretty much the beginning of the show and when you find out, probably the most feels wrenching moment this whole season for me. And there's also the thing about Lin and Su being born, not only out of wedlock, but without knowing their fathers. While I respect the level of realism in the situation, I kinda don't. Because in A:TLA, Aang, Toph, and the rest of them were just kids and I had them placed on this incorruptible pedestal and having them knocked straight off of it kind of hurts.

I don't know if anyone else has been keeping up with the show, but I would honestly put this season *almost* on par with a season of A:TLA.

IT IS THAT FREAKING GOOD.

Also, I'd recommend torrenting episodes 9-11 simply because they're online for free anyway and Nick.com's video player is pure garbage. Episode 11 is actually the only thing I've ever torrented and I did it just because I was so fed up with Nick's video player.

Pure. Garbage.

Nickelodeon hates Avatar fans. This is fact.

But seriously, the last 2 episodes have been so intense, it's got the Book One vibe to it, but the pacing and development of A:TLA. It's seriously the best of both worlds right now, absolutely fantastic!

THE FINALE DOE

MY GOD I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: SuperFireKirby on August 22, 2014, 09:24:11 AM
HOW ABOUT LET'S START ON HOW FREAKING AMAZING IT WAS. THAT'S GOOD PLACE.

BECAUSE IT WAS.

SO GOOD.

Honestly, after Book 2, I was a bit worried for Book 3. While the opened spirit portals left a lot of room for potential, I was afraid they either weren't going to utilize it or it would just be another sloppy mess like Book 2. Plus, Book 2's giant monster fight seemed like an end-all kind of deal and I just wasn't sure how they'd top it.

But they delivered. So much so that Book 3: Change of Korra in almost comparable to Book 2: Earth from A:TLA, my personal favorite of the series, as well as the best written of A:TLA, in my opinion. The character writing was top-knotch, the plot was excellently executed, Zaheer was a bit preachy but an awesome villain, plus they threw out all the unnecessary shipping drama but left the shipping(because what's Avatar if it's fans can't ship something? ZUTARA 4EVR!!1! not really tho).

If I have one critique of the this season, it's only that I was kind of hoping the 1 Season, 1 Villain pattern would be broken. I don't mind that they didn't, but it would have been cool to get another Ozai level Big Bad in the picture.

BUT IT WAS GOOD. TOO GOOD. 3 GOOD.

I'm trying to watch Korra even with the ads to support the series on Nick's webpage but the video player is one of the fucking worst ones I've ever seen.

That's why I play the video on Nick.com on mute while watch an illegally downloaded copy. They get the view, I get a video that doesn't freeze up every 5 seconds. It's win/win

Yeah lol that's what I ended up doing.

I really require backstory on why Kuviyra(spelling idk?) left the Metal Clan city asap.

Also it's reeeeeeeeally predictable that Korra will go all Star Wars V on our asses by facing her fears in the swamp and then make a comeback.

Kuvira, methinks.

Yeah, I'm already liking her. She seems like she's gonna be the main villain, but they could always throw us a twist. Still, an absolutely fantastic first episode.

They've already confirmed that Kuvira is this season's villain. They wanted a character that's similar to Korra. Tbh I felt the season 1 ep 1 nostalgia when Kuvira took the bandits on like Korra.

I really hope they don't make earth kingdom conquer girl (can't remember her name) too similar to the other villains. I feel like one of the weaknesses of the show is that they make the antagonists "good reason gone to far", but they're just so devious you lose sight of what they're trying to accomplish. This girl has potential as long as she doesn't go "Mwahahahaha I shall rool teh worldz!"
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: SuperFireKirby on October 31, 2014, 04:02:14 PM
GAH FANTASTIC EPISODE. SO MUCH BOLIN AND VARRICK, IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE

And as for KUVIRA(that's her name), she seems less like the "good reason gone too far" kind of archetype and more like the "manipulative evil person who gets more evil and manipulative the more power she attains". Yeah, she's uniting the Earth Kingdom, but kinda in the same manner Hitler tried to "unite" Europe.

You could argue both sides of the conflict at the start of the season, but now it's pretty damn clear this woman is very very not good. Basically a slightly more relatable Ozai.
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: FireArrow on October 31, 2014, 05:14:40 PM
Kuvira (thx bro) just has so much potential. I mean, I know she's being a complete ass face, but if she turns out to be a diabolical dictator after her conquest, I'll be pissed. She has good intentions, but a plot twist (not really because it's foreshadowed so much) of her turning out to just want more power will really piss me off. I don't wanna see another "I'm a relatable villian! loljk kthxbai."
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra
Post by: SuperFireKirby on October 31, 2014, 05:51:41 PM
I think she might have already crossed over into the dark side. Unfortunately, LoK lacks the same development in its villains that AtLA had. Mostly because ATLA had 3 seasons to develop Zuko, 2 for Azula and friends, and then a score of great supreme evil villains(Zhao, Ozai, a bunch of one-off villains).

Korra's villains suffer from an extreme lack of development due to being cycled out every season, as well as the seasons being so short. The most well-developed "villain" in the series is Varrick, who is, more or less, just brilliant man who (until recently) lacked any form of a conscience. And it's because he's had 3 seasons of dips and turns. I'm not sure how the writers could possibly develop Kuvira as the super cool "not really that bad but just enough that she needs to be stopped and I could totally see myself taking her side maybe" kind of villain and still be able to tell a complete story regarding everything else happening in just 13 22-minute episodes.

I'm really interested in the character development of Zhu Li, now that she was told Varrick died in the explosion. She either believes Varrick is still alive, or that she is her own master now, which would be something really cool to see.

Please consider the following

Korra hasn't had a proper fight in years. Remember her in that Earthbending arena? How she still performed badly there? She haasn't had the time to get her skills back under control. Even if the traces of poison are finally out of her body, she still needs to focus on getting her skills under control again. She's not gonna be back at 100 percent until she gets the chance to really fully recover.
Title: Re: The Legend of Korra

I second that motion.

Also, kinda sad they had to make a clip episode. But of course Nick slashed their budget basically one whole episode's worth of funding, so instead of either developing the story further or doing a summary episode in a far more awesome way(like they did with The Ember Island Players), they were forced to do dumb clip episode. Tho Varrick's bit was fairly entertaining, because Varrick.

so apparently one of the final shots of Korra and Asami looking toward the new spirit point is overlaid with the colors of the bisexual pride flag in the sky. Also, at the very end, Korra and Asami are in pretty much the exact same pose as Varrick and Zhu Li, who just got married. If this was meant to be a platonic thing they wouldn't even turn towards each other. "Just friends" they said.

That's when the comics or potentially the next Avatar series comes in. In the A:TLA finale, they left us hanging on what happened to Zuko's mother(and they made a whole comic about locating her with Team Avatar and Azula!). You never reveal your entire hand when it comes to showbiz

I'd give my left hand for some Korra comics

I just watched it. I don't really know how to feel right now. On one hand, that was beautiful. I'm still teary-eyed right now. The ending was literally perfect. But on the other hand, I'm incredibly sad. That is probably the last new episode of Avatar I'll ever get to watch. The Avatar universe is something I have cherished since I was little. It's been my absolute favorite thing for years. The impact it has had on my life and my view of the world is nothing less than massive. And now it's over.

Read through the whole thing. Nice to see such a wonderful person do that for the community. But not even reading poorly conceived ATLA parody fanfics is helping me(though I'm pretty sure the dude advised against fanfics/rewatches/browsing the avatar subredit for hours)

I've seen so much fan art, but nothing I've seen comes that close to the original artstyle and I love it.
