Title: Video Game Orchestrations
Post by: Akiro on March 27, 2008, 03:50:52 PM
I did not "compose" the songs, so I guess they should belong in here.

I've started to orchestrate a couple of songs just to change them around a bit.

Every orchestration I make has ALMOST all different instruments than the normal song has.  A couple I have made dark.  (Don't mind the notes  :P )

P.S. I rarely keep some instruments the same instrument that they are, so you will see like something labeled as "Oboe" soundling like a warm pad or something.  I normally label them what they are on the first page.
I'm also going by sound more by playablitly :D

I'm not a piano expert, but here's what I thought:
Dark Dark Overworld: It was too dark to my taste.

Norm Dark World: Something seemed to be missing. I don't know what it is.

Lost Woods: Awesome, but repetitive. It's not your fault.

Title and Intro: I loved it all.

Ending: One simple word(in caps): AMAZING.

Steep Hill songs: I almost fell asleep. It wasn't your fault... I just don't like the song. It was very boring.

So! That's my opinion. Overall, I would say that you have a lot of time on your hands. But you use it well.  ;D

Thanks for the comments  :)

The Dark World Overworld which I darkened is supposed to sound really dark, so some of you may not like it.
I will try to do a couple orchestrations per week.

The blue will stay on the song until the next day.

As you can see, I try to put piano into every one I make.

i finished  listening to most of them, and man you are really good at this. those songs sound really professional (Concerto would like them ::)), but some are a little repetitive. but really good though!

Thanks.

I was on spring break at the time so I had much time, but I'm back to school so I can't work on some as much.

I can tell you that I'm doing Monkey Smash right now.

btw, listen to the WHOLE song on each, cause if the song is repetitive, I add more instruments when it repeats. (normally)

The Dark World Overworld (light) is good... but you're missing the melody in parts 27-34

i'm not so fond of the "dark" version, sounds really... weird...

LLTP Ending is lacking in bass instruments...

Windfall Island sounds good, but the timpani part lol... are you sure you didn't want a different drum? like toms?

You know I've been screwing around when I made these, I changed mostly all the instruments.

I have a question about the dark overworld (dark). Did you really put work into it? Time to do some detective work 8) The double flats is a dead give away. You also said "Don't mind the notes :P". *says in suspicious tone* Uh-huh. Originally you have it in Eb major, which is suppose to be in minor at the very start (something newbies don't check). It is also suppose to be in G minor, but that's probably not important (but is important when considering instrument ranges). Anyways I listened to the whole thing. Suspicious, I checked the key sig. C minor it said, and any newbie would begin a piece starting in major (when clearly dark overworld is not) as the original. I changed it back to major. Guess what, it sounded exactly like the dark overworld (normal) arrangement. So all you did was pull out your key sig tool, changed it from major to minor, set transpose notes: Down, and viola! Effortless work and no correction, very risky because you don't know what Finale will do to it (hence why you said "Don't mind the notes :P). It sounded weird in some places. So it's basically in C minor minor. I guess Finale gets credit for actually arranging it :D Just come out and say Finale did it. Even if Finale is just a mindless software, it still deserves credit lol.

Don't take this post offensive akiro, I'm only joking around. It's funny actually :D

...well actually.....I did the dark arrangement first

The original one came out because I wanted to just to "have" it real quick and so BK could see the difference on his site.

Well.....you could count that I knew to use 3 sharps to make a dark song..... :P

seriously....i suck at arranging "clean" sheets

Google Chrono Symphonic

It's a project to make a soundtrack for a future Chrono Trigger movie

alot of em are just orchastrated versions of Chrono Trigger Songs, though a few mix some together and others throw in some Chrono Cross stuff

but overall fantastic

Yes, I've been to that site and downloaded a lot of their songs. They're fantastic, mostly. Some of them are brilliant.

I fixed the Frantic Factory bells and I also did Penguin Playpen.

It's kind of long, but listen to the whole thing if you don't mind.
