Post what you're listening to currently, what you're liking at the moment, whatever seems to suit this thread. People can comment, make recommendations, etc..
Please NO Classical or Video Game (and Anime) music, too... soundtracks are OK because some movies have great soundtracks (like the Wedding Singer and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist)

Currently, I just discovered Arcade Fire, and it is AMAZING... this is coming from a Vampire Weekend fan (well, my favorite bands are Muse and the Killers, but... im starting to get into Indie Rock)
I love the Killers :D
I just heard Hotel California and it brought back SO many memories, and also Rage against the Machine
And also YES I still am stuck on the Smashing Pumpkins, and Primus
They've been the 2 bands on my iPod for about 6 years.
I saw the Eagles live in concert 2 years ago... it was pretty epic (and stoners paradise!)
I've been meaning to listen to Smashing Pumpkins. I hear them a lot on the radio.
Winter: Are you kind of into Alternative/Indie Rock??
WOW Smashing Pumpkins are on the radio again? I assume it's their new alternative music (which I don't like)
And I gotta say I'm jealous, the only concerts I saw were, Nirvava in like the first month of my life, Modest Mouse in Denver a while back, and Evanescence (Terrible live)
But yea, I'm into anything from Classical and Electronica to Metal and Reggae.
Anything besides Rap and Country really :/
I'd have to say I'm a little more out there in terms of music choice. Youtube links are the best way to describe stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYA3A7gXiPE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYA3A7gXiPE)<--Most of his stuff just blows your mind
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI0tVt_oo7g&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI0tVt_oo7g&feature=related) <--The album's better but they still sound pretty good live
And my favourite dude of all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1C0K27x3Yk&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1C0K27x3Yk&feature=related)
Pretty much I'll dig nearly anything but I tend towards non-verbal/ "instrumental" music.

Yep... well, its the older of the Smashing Pumpkins. They have a lot of good music! LA radio stations are amazing!
I'm the same with Rap and Country... and Hip Hop!
It's kinda cool that NSM people actually listen to GOOD music!!!
Currently listening to Bon Jovi!
I was thinking the same thing, you'd think we'd all listen to Video Game music all the time or something
But it is pretty cool
I love rock/metal mostly and hate country and rap/hip-hop. Though most songs I like are lyrical, I have a decent collection of instrumental songs.
Some of my favorite bands:
Tool, Third Eye Blind, Alice in Chains, Breaking Benjamin, Mastodon(probably my favorite band right now), 311, Nirvana, and an instrumental group called An Endless Sporadic. <=They were featured on Guitar Hero 3 and I decided to look up the rest of their stuff; they're ridiculously talented.
And winterkid, thank you for mentioning Primus. They're a fantastic band as well and really funny!
I do have a fairly unorthodox soundtrack for you all as well: There's a webcomic called MS Paint Adventures (http://www.mspaintadventures.com/), and the current adventure called Homestuck (http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6) features music created by members of the forum that have banded together in a music team. The songs accompany a number of Flash animated pages in the adventure which typically have the most stunning images and important plot revelations. The story is really epic and the songs reflect that quite frequently. So far, most of the soundtrack has been released on their self-created record label (http://www.whatpumpkin.com/) and put on Bandcamp for download (the albums are pretty cheap) and there's a couple "fake band" projects (http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/album/midnight-crew-drawing-dead-2) where they take characters from the story and create albums that the characters would've created themselves (if they existed). Be sure to check out Vol. 5 (http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/album/homestuck-vol-5) as it's got almost 70 songs on it!
Since I'm forbidden from listing game or anime titles, here are some movie soundtracks that I like:
- A Series of Unfortunate Events (Thomas Newman)
- Anything by Danny Elfman, of course (he's my favorite composer next to Mahito Yokota)
- The Godfather (Nino Rota)
There are more that I don't feel like listing.
Oh, and Meet the Parents/Meet the Fockers has some pretty good Randy Newman scores.
I like The Godfather soundtrack too.
Ooh, speaking of film scores, I'm a huge fan of Thomas Newman, especially the American Beauty & The Good German soundtracks.
John Williams is worth checking out if you haven't heard anything of his already. I recently found the Jurassic Park soundtrack and almost literally got swept away. But maybe that's just me :P
John Williams is AWESOME, especially his Harry Potter tracks. Here are some favorites of mine:
Aunt Marge's Waltz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_HVTRLD1wM)
Monaing Myrtle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLhrppz-RDY&feature=related)
Gilderoy Lockhart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ob2jTy33nU&feature=related)
Some other Harry Potter tracks that I like:
Professor Umbridge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkyAv6b3lMY&feature=related) (Nicholas Hooper)
Dumbledore's Army (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf3DkYsBQYw&feature=related) (Nicholas Hooper) [like the part at 1:07]
The Book (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOpbLZXPkx8&feature=related) (Nicholas Hooper) [part at 0:57]
Ministry of Magic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1FdGkra0cc&feature=related) (Alexandre Desplat)

(takes a breath)

Agree. But Hooper's and Desplat's soundtracks were even better. Ministry of Magic, by Desplat is especially awesome
My favourite John Williams track: Welcome to Jurassic Park. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6fka74ZnpU)

;)
Ok... as much as those soundtracks were awesome... they still have the soundtrack-y feel...
When I referred to soundtracks above, I meant like actual songs compiled into albums
For example
The Wedding Singer: White Wedding by Billy Idol, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by the Police, Pass the Dutchie by the Musical Youth, Space Age Love Song by A Flock of Seagulls, etc...
N&NIP: Ottoman by Vampire Weekend, After Hours by We Are Scientists, Silvery Sleds by Army Navy, etc...
As far as "real music" goes, I have to admit I'm a fan of Billy Joel.
PIANO MAN!!!
My mom grew up down the street from Billy Joel! haha... its hirarious!
You guys seriously need to listen to more GOOD music!!! Someone get these people Zeppelin, STAT!
Ben Folds (Five)
Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer
Jack Johnson
Regina Spektor
The Cure
Muse
Musicals-
Jekyll and Hyde the Musical
Jesus Christ Superstar
A Chorus Line
Fiddler on the Roof
Every other Andrew Lloyd Webber productions. :D
I used to be a big fan of Bruce Springsteen. Actually, I still am. I have all his cds and even lps(don't know why I bought those too). Bon Jovi is cool too. I hardly listen to any newer bands but I got interested in Muse last Summer. From movie soundtracks, I love Hans Zimmer. Lion King, The Pirates of the Caribbean etc.
Oh yeah, Phantom of the Opera is awesome.
I personally couldn't get in to Phantom of the Opera.
Although I've only listened to Music of the Night. Which I liked.
...it totally makes sense.
I can't understand for the life of me why everyone likes that song so much. :|
I don't LOVE it. It's nice though.
And it's impossible not to enjoy the Overture, I think. ^_^
If anyone has the chance to listen to The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, it's an amazing song!
Well...I listen to a lot of classical music because I happen to be a piano major. :P I'm currently listening to Chopin etudes because I'll be playing some of those next semester. :3 I'm also currently listening to Christmas music for holiday spirit sake. xD The radio station is starting to play a lot of those music. >.>
I honestly can't think of any other kind of music besides video games. o.o
Why don't you post some video game favorites in the VG music discussion thread? :3
Everyone here is familiar with Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, yes?
YESSSS.
Joss Whedon musical.
YESSSS.

YES! My neighbor has it on DVD!
It's fantastic. ^_^ I wish though, all the songs that had an interruption for an ending in the show were completed in the soundtrack.
The Ink Spots. Go.
I love them.
Oh: Does anyone know where I could get a decent .mp3 backing track for 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore'? I found an alright piano MIDI, but I'd like a band arrangement.
The Ink Spots sung "I Don't Want To Set the World on Fire" from Fallout 3, FYI. ;P
So. Anyone else a fan of Regina Spektor?
