Just wanna know. :3
havn't been in the mood for playing piano lately and now when I felt like playing again my printer broke...
I'm not so good at playing by ear on harder songs, and i don't feel like playing easier songs
I'm working my way through Chopin's Scherzo No. 2. Just a little something to help me unwind during finals week. It's actually not as hard as I thought it would be, then I agian the last time I looked at the music I had only just taken up the piano.
Lets See...
On Piano:
The King's Speech - Main theme from the movie (Desplat)
Piano Sonata No 13 in Bb (Mozart)
On Clarinet:
Poet and Peasant Overture (Suppé)
Concerto for Trumpet in Eb (Haydn)
First Suite in F (Ritter George)
This Welsh tune called "Rosymedre"
Seranata and Clarinet Candy (Leroy Anderson)
Relearning Circus Bee (Fillmore)
Cantina Band (Williams)
Living in the Past (Jethro Tull)
On Oboe:
Various Pokémon pieces until I am good enough/in tune enough to play in Wind O
Age Of Empires II Menu Theme and Still Alive.
Those, as well of a bunch of other songs I got halfway into before I went into service.
Quote from: Fleetstar The Flygon on April 21, 2011, 08:02:16 AMRight now I'm trying to figure out Fur Elise. Kinda hard. Skipping around a bit. I love this one part where, in the left hand, you have to use 3 fingers on this one note... And when you stress the whole song, it sounds so moving... Well, what are you people learning?
Lol I HATE that song because A. it is SO EASY (no offense, you probably haven't been playing so long) and B. it is SO OVERPLAYED xD
I finished with the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows piano solo book by Alexandre Desplat which consisted of:
"Obliviate"
"Snape to Malfoy Manor"
"Polyjuice Potion"
"At the Burrow"
"Harry and Ginny"
"Ron Leaves"
"Godric's Hollow Graveyard"
"Ron's Speech"
"Lovegood"
"Farewell to Dobby"
Also working on Polonaisse by Chopin and Pineapple Rag as a two piano duet by Joplin.
Quote from: drpamplemousse on April 21, 2011, 01:10:56 PMThe King's Speech - Main theme from the movie (Desplat)
I will have to look that up because I loved Desplat's work on Deathly Hallows.
Offense not taken, because you're right... XD I'm a bit green. :-[
Pineapple rag? I learned that song recently, (but it's most likely an easier version) and I really like Joplin! ;D
I agree with the fact the Fur Elise is overplayed; that's why I play it in my own idiom, usually only barely playing from the orginal score.
I like playing songs that make people smile or grimance, or maybe even weep. :p
Hmm.
Debussy's "Pour le Piano", Chopin's Nocturne in C Minor, Ginastera's "Danzas Argentinas", Lizst's "Waldesrauschen", and The SMW athletic theme.
The last one is practically the hardest :P
I'm learning "May Song" from the blue Encore book, along with Prelude in F something...
I think I've been out-matched, 1 to 100! :o
gregory which nocturne? I've played the op 48 no 1 before.
I'm playing Chopin's concerto 1, black key etude, rachmaninov's prelude in g-sharp minor, and some sightreading on Beethoven Pathetique and Pastoral sonatas. I like sonatas with names :)
Piano-
Mary Had A Little Lamb
... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Clarinet-
Well, I was going Waltz Fantasy for this Clarinet Solo thing, except it's ridiculously easy. But then again, I'm terrible at Clarinet anyways, so FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
I am obviously not music savvy. :(
My first Chopin piece: "two preludes" as well as polonaisse
Quote from: SlowPokemon on April 23, 2011, 08:44:34 PMMy first Chopin piece: "two preludes" as well as polonaisse
The "Herioque"?
No idea, it's listed in my book as "two preludes" and they're two incredibly short pieces that take up a page. I will copy the page to show you tomorrow or something.
All you really need to tell us are the keys.
I can guarantee that the Prelude in A major (No. 7) is one of them though, and I'd chance a guess that No. 4 in E minor is the other one. It's commonly referred to as "Suffocation".
I'm transcribing "Bounding Through Time" right now. And I'm kinda off'n'on learning The Merry-Go-Round of Life or the main themw from Howl's Moving Castle. Other than that, there is no real learning project currently being undertaken by me.
Curently working on Beethoven's Piano Sonata #5 In C Minor, Op. 10, No. 5 . Pretty cool to play!
Learning What It's Like on guitar.
Learning Nostalgia by Yanni on piano.
Right now, I´m only playing and practising random sheets I have and some new ones from Ninsheetmusic.* Nothing else. I´m practising "Jib Jig" from DKC2 (almost perfect! ;D) and "Musical Hall" from PKMN:B&W, at the moment. Looking forward for new arrangements on the submission thread!
*Got a little bored of always playing classical music.
Oh! And a version of "Dr. Wily Stage 1" from Megaman 2 arranged by Frank DAngelo I found on the web. It´s quite different to the one we have on the site, though.
Ah.
The only song I learned from this site-and finished- is Haunted Merry-go-round in Super Mario 64. I stink. :p
Nah, you're just starting out. Some of the songs on the site (especially arranged by dahans) are CRAZILY hard...and don't even look at Maestro's Virtuoso arrangements.
Speaking of which, I'm also attempting to learn Lost Woods Virtuoso.
It's hard, but after mastering Lost Woods, the virtuoso is a little bit easier.
Yay, maybe I don't smell after all! :D
I'm currently working on "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" by Grieg. AWESOME piece.
Open Road by Slightly Stoopid on acoustic guitar
^this.
I wish I could play guitar... but I don't have the time/energy to learn.... so I play bass!

It's such an easy instrument to pick up. I've only been playing for about 6 months completely, self-taught and I'm already pretty good at it.
Lol well I have a couple things... still struggling through Pineapple Rag (it's not hard, I just need to force myself to work on it), also "Trapped Like Carrots", which is a piece written by Hans Zimmer for the Simpsons Movie; Jack and Sally Montage; Promise of the World (Ending Theme to Howl's Moving Castle).
People of the North Pole. Don't have time to practice at all though.
Mozart: 12 Variations "Ah, vous dirai-je, maman"
You don't know how much practice goes into making these perfect... :'(
Yep. I've been working on so much clarinet stuff. We had a small concert last night -- we played one of our songs, Time Remembered (Its on my submission page, Pg 1)
I am switching to jazz standards, working on A Man and a Woman and learning chord progressions... there are some strange ones that are hard to do fast
Working towards my 5th Grade Clarinet Exam! :D

Playing Chopin's Mazurka, Op. 7 No. 1. Really easy but I LOVE the sound of this piece, it's very pretty.
Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu" and Fly Me to the Moon
That's intense! good luck!
Playing Warrior's Song by Stephen Heller in a recital next week.
Chopin's Revolutionary Etude = PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE = teacher wants me to learn it = stress
Hm, I haven't played that one yet. Gonna try to sightread it in a sec.
In my opinion, your teacher should have assigned you the Black Keys Etude first, it's easier. And good for your fingers - lightens them up, also makes your wrist smooth and not stiff, also makes your fingers clearer, more even, and faster, and it sounds like flowing water in a beautiful shallow river, the waves - *goes on forever*
I can sightread it just fine, it's just that the speed at which it's played is very fast considering it's all sixteenth notes. That's okay though, I'll get it eventually. Maybe will take a few weeks though :P
I'm no pianist but uh,
Four Scottish Dances (Timpani)
Drum Corps on Parade (Snare)
I don't spend much time learning since I usually sight read it on the spot, but I'm going to take up more songs by John Pratt for snare.
And well, most of my time goes into writing.

have you tried slowing it down in an audio editing program?
have you tried just getting sheets for zelda's lulliby and reading it backwards?
I was asked to play piano for a friend's wedding so I've got the requisite Bridal March, Canon in D, and Trumpet Voluntary lined up for practicing.
The arrangements I'm working off of aren't hard, but there's a few problem spots I need to iron out first.

I totally wish I get requested to perform piano for weddings and stuff. :P
I'm learning Chopin etudes, Schumann carnival, Prokofiev toccata D minor, Bach prelude and fugue, and Beethoven sonata no. 27. I mean, holy crap, Chopin Etudes? I wish you good luck with all those pieces because goodness knows they're completely beyond my skill level. :O
Also, it's not hard to pick up on most video game songs. Even learning by ear isn't hard at all if you have an hour or so.

Haha I've had a simpler version of that memorized for a while now. I just played it so much that muscle memory took over after awhile. It's sooooo much fun!
Up at college, the dorm I stayed in had a piano so I would find time between classes to play around with it, and kind of got a reputation for playing video game songs. XD

You get a dorm with a piano!? You are soo lucky. The YI athletic theme does sound like a lot of fun, which is why I'm learning! I'm too lazy to learn something by ear, so I'll just take advantage that I'm in a website dedicated to making video game sheet music. xD
Athletic themes. :D
I'm still working on the SMW athletic theme. The left hand is hard to get exactly right. :P

It's a baby grand, but it's either badly out of tune or the keys stick, so it's not as great as you might think. Luckily this last year I was able to get a HUGE dorm room, big enough to move my keyboard into, so that helped.
I'm bad at learning stuff by ear too, which is why I love this site so much. :P
Hey, can someone help me choose something to learn? Something from Mario or Pokémon please. I learned some of the songs from NSM, like 5 or 7., but that's it.
Try N's Farewell from Pokemon Black and White, it's not on the site but Hugomeister has arranged it and I'm sure he would send you the arrangement. It's very good.
You could also use my arrangement oritendo! I just posted it a few days ago - http://www.mediafire.com/?d807ya42vklaun4 (PDF). My sheets tend to have a lot of dynamic markings, so if you like a less cluttered sheet you could use Hugomeister's. But mine's good too! ;)
P.S. I realize you don't like mediafire, but if you ask Hugomeister for his version, his will be stored in mediafire also, so... yeah.
yes, I don't like mediafire, sorry. :) Is there anything good to suggest from NSM? I know these already:
Pokémon
~Professor Oak (R/B/y)
~Hearthome City (P/D)
Mario
~Overworld (Super Mario Bros)
~Yoshi Island (Super Mario World)
~Overworld (super mario world)
any suggestions?? thanks! :)
On site stuff huh? Try learning Fairy Fountain from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ;) - I'm actually trying to learn it myself right now ;D
You know the SMW overworld?
Try doing other SMW pieces, they're all based on the same theme.

Ha ha my brother was messing around with the Castle theme from SMW one night on our piano and we came to the realization that it's the Overworld theme bumped into a minor key. Mind = blown.
If you're looking for something from Pokemon, the Route 202 music from DPPt is a lot of fun to play.

Hmm. My own Musical Hall arrangement is fun to play and rather easy (in my opinion), same with my Route 4 and Dimble Wood. But other than shameless self promotion, try Fingerz's arrangement from Bowser's Inside Story, Clash of the Titans. Really great song and very playable.
Not practicing as much as I should be right now, but meh
Mendelssohn - Rondo Capriccio
Chopin - Etude Op 10 No 12
Beethoven - Pathetique Sonata Mov. 3 (relearning)
Beethoven - Appassionata Sonata Mov 3
Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata Mov 3
Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag
Had been working on them a few months back but school meant I wasn't able to practice at all. Have now moved forward in the Chopin and Mendelssohn most of all, though the Pathetique I can already play moderately well as I had memorized and performed it around 3 (or more, forget) years ago. Maple Leaf is easy so I can already play that moderately as well.
Joplin's ragtime pieces are always fun. I already know the Maple Leaf Rag, I had to play the Pineapple Rag for my recital, and I recently memorized the Entertainer. Now my teacher wants me to play Solace. :P
I have to say I like them, despite all of them sounding similar to each other. They're fun for me cause of my crazy big hands...lots of leaps in the bass clef.

I'd agree with you, but my brother apparently has this feeling that he has to play it twice a day. IT'S GETTING OLD!
Twice a day?
My brother and I play our pieces 4 times a day. :P
I'm the only one in my family who plays piano since I'm the most talented so I just bang on it playing whatever I want until someone yells at me to shut up.
I've been much less strict about practicing piano ever since I got out of taking actual lessons a few years ago. I mess around about once a day normally, for maybe an hour or so. If there's one song that really strikes my fancy I'll just play it over and over again and get it memorized (that's how I memorize most songs, just play them enough times so muscle memory takes over :P ).
The rest of my family is pretty musically inclined. My mom also can play piano (although she doesn't really sit down to do it much anymore), my younger brother does piano and guitar, and my older brother just does guitar now.

I am going to stop learning some of my music and only focus on Schumann Carnival. That is a ridiculously hard piece and I can't believe I chose it. x_x Oh well...I still enjoy the piece. It's really nice. :)
Hahaha I will have to check that piece out, it sounds interesting. Well my brother has no sense of melody, pitch, or rhythm--he can't even clap on beat listening to a song--my sister used to play piano but quit after like a year, if that. Because she "didn't like it" and would rather have vocal lessons. (Cause those are going to be so much more beneficial) [/sarcasm]
My dad has no musical talent whatsoever, and while he really loves that I have a passion for music, he doesn't really understand it.
My mom doesn't do anything pertaining to musical talent, and tries to support me but understands it less than my dad. XD
And my entire family thinks I'm mentally retarded or something for preferring what they call "elevator music" (what I call "orchestral music") to the stuff they listen to. I mean...I don't mind some of the stuff...but my brother always picks songs somewhere between bad and really bad, praises them for how amazing they are, and puts them on repeat for hours on end. And my sister does similar things.
I might be coming across as somewhat harsh, but...I can only listen to Bad Romance or I Gotta Feeling so many times before I want to tear my head off my shoulders. (And by so many times I mean...maybe twice)
It's okay that they don't really get my tastes though; I don't get theirs at all. Seriously. Yeah so it kind of bugs me when my sister tells people I don't like real music, as she's the one with Boom Boom Pow on her favorite playlist...lol.
Lmao, I've always hated that kind of music.
Luckily so do my brothers, and they can both play piano. So all is good. 8)

My best friend's younger brother is the worst. He thinks he's the shit with playing music. He was in a band that broke up after 6 months after so many critics said that they have no talent whatsoever. He thinks Frank Sinatra is a talentless douche when he thinks he can trump Frankie anyday.
WTH, its Frank fucking Sinatra, the legend who held massive influence on so much stuff.
There is only a limit to so much stuff you can listen to from today's music. I hate the popular music from today.
Oh yes, the biggest thing that bugs me about my brother: he has no musical inclination but he thinks he's awesome because he can play Guitar Hero. :|
OMG ALL OF MY NON-MUSICAL FRIENDS ARE LIKE THAT(Thinking that they have musical talent when they don't)
One thinks that because he can tap a drum he can play music (Which is technicaly true, but he just an asshole about it :/)The other thinks that by playing golf the tap of the club on the ball is complicated music. I MEAN WTF! ITS JUST A TAP! YOU CAN'T PLAY THREE NOTES OF A SCALE WITH JUST A TAP >:( It frustrates me to no ends! And when I play music, they're all like 'That sucks' and 'I can play better with my golf balls!' IT MAKES ME SO MAD >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Lol but you can also play piano...
Also yeah, those guys are annoying. But drumming is definitely considered a musical instrument in my opinion; I played piano in an after school percussion group for my school's band last year a few times, and while it's not as difficult or impressive, I still consider that kind of drumming a musical ability, albeit a small one.

He's eight years old. D8

But with a little help from a friend, I'm now teaching myself Lavender Town. (R/B/Y version)
Lavender Town - good choice! To add to list of creepy songs from Pokémon, you should learn Mt. Moon. It's fairly simple, but since the entire song is written in whole tone scale, the notation for the sheet on site can be rather perplexing, especially with the double flats on some notes.
I haven't gotten to flats yet, actually! xD I'm half-teaching myself those I guess?? But yeah, Mt. Moon is simple enough. If I could find Pokemon Tower, I'd learn that too. And I wanna learn Ruins of Alph...
Heh, now that you've mentioned Ruins of Alph I want to learn it now XD More eerie songs ftw! On that note, when you get really good, you could try learning Dahan's recently submitted "Old Chateau" from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
I plan to! That place gave me the creeps -3-; My pasta about it did no help and freaks me out a bit more, haha.
I wonder if that creepy radio signal in the Ruins can be learned too?
Hmm... perhaps the radio signal in the Ruins of Alph could be put in as a brief interlude in a piano arrangement for Ruins of Alph? Just a thought, but there's already an arrangement for Ruins of Alph on site.
Hmm, maybe. I'd have to figure how that'd sound on the piano, anyway...

I understand Shadoninja; this is Ninsheetmusic after all, not Ninremixmusic. It was a fun idea though!
XD Maybe I'll find it on my own if someone on here doesn't make it.
Old Chateau is fun to mess around with, and sounds good, but it's virtually unplayable, which is the case with most of dahans' arrangements. (btw, did that only just get submitted? He arranged it back in October for a Halloween arrangement)

I'm learning this song. I'm making the sheet music for it as we speak (erm...type), so to write a sheet with logical fingering I like to learn some of the sheets I make.

Well, taking a break from wedding music, I sat down and learned "Bonds of Sea and Fire" from Xenogears (because Yasunori Mitsuda is a VIDEO GAME COMPOSER GOD :D ) in a couple hours. It's a really pretty song, although it reminds me a lot of Schala's Theme from Chrono Trigger, the beginning part especially.
I'm currently learning this song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm6Wy04Yaj0
which I remixed here

It really sounds epic on piano
Quote from: Bespinben on July 11, 2011, 01:44:59 PMHeh, now that you've mentioned Ruins of Alph I want to learn it now XD More eerie songs ftw! On that note, when you get really good, you could try learning Dahan's recently submitted "Old Chateau" from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Mt. Pyre ftw! :P
Mt. Pyre admitedly rivals the fear-factor of Lavender Town (*takes cover from RBY fanatics*). Where Lavender Town is just plain eerie, the moans of pain in Mt. Pyre and the gradual suspense built throughout the song make it almost even better than Lavender Town.
I agree. That's why I arranged it quite a while ago.
Mt. Pyre is just a very gloomy song that sounds like dead people and impending doom. I really love it, it fits Shoal Cave and Mt. Pyre. Lavender Town's GS happy remix is my favorite of the two versions anyway.
I just got a couple piano arrangements of To Far Away Times from Chrono Trigger. It's pretty tough, but the song is just soooooooo awesome I'm resolving to actually sit down and work on them.
I'm just happy that the wedding I was playing for is over and done with and I don't have to practice Trumpet Voluntary anymore. :D
Lots of stuff! I got the piano solo book for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, I love to play the End Credits and Mutiny themes.
Learning dance of the sugar plum fairy. cause bored
Six Ecossaises (hope I spelled it right) by Beethoven is so fun to play.
I'm playing some stuff out of the Real Book for auditions in a few weeks.
I've been working on lots of jazz standards recently on piano, too.... like Autumn Leaves, Alice in Wonderland and April in Paris
The Girl With The Flaxen Hair - Debussy
Prelude II - Gershwin
Almost done with maple leaf. then either fig leaf or solace. all by joplin.
I learned Maple Leaf last year, Entertainer a couple weeks ago, and now I'm learning Solace. :) my awkwardly giant hands are perfect for Joplin's pieces.
I learned the entertainer years ago. I only recently became interested in joplin again, lol.

I also recently rediscovered a book of Burgmüller sheet music back in my old stuff leftover from when I took lessons. It's all very easy, but still fun to play.
Bells of Moscow by Rachmaninoff, some movement in some sonatina by Beethoven, and something else by Bach.

Should I be worried that my piano teacher gave me Brahms Lullaby to learn? It's a more complex version but it isn't hard at all. Plus it's annoying as hell. I'm disappointed :(

But I did just find a nice version of Sousa's "The Liberty Bell" for piano that I want to learn...
Chopin's Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor. It's quite hard.
P. Antonio Soler's "Fandango". A wonderful harpsichord piece, and a good challenge to boot.
learning toccata in D minor by prokofiev

Alright, this Summer I'm thinking of mixing some LoZ pieces to make my own medley.
My brainstorm for the set up..
Beginning-
WW "Story Theme"
LA "Main Theme"
Body-
OoT "Hyrule Field"
OoT "Saria's Song" (learned)
WW "Dragon Roost Island"
OoT "Song of Storms" (learned)
LA "Dark World"
WW "Ocean Theme"
MM "Termina Field"
TP "Hyrule Field"
OoT "Gerudo Valley" (learned)
OoT "Horse Race" (learned
End-
OoT "Zelda's Lullaby"
MM "Song of Healing"
I know there is a lot of OoT and not much of anything else. Any comments about the order? Should I switch some OoT for other games' music?
Now I'm learning River Flows in you... and this summer I think to learning Dearly Beloved arranged by Kile Landry.
I don't even know how many I'm learning, and I'm not even going to try and find out.
In short, too many (if that's possible ;)).
I'm putting my piano stuff to the side... but on Clarinet
This Japanese March
This French Piece
These two short pieces by Rachmaninoff
This Piece called "Imagining Worlds"
The Strenuous Life by Scott Joplin
Sonate in F KV 208 (189e) (that's what my piano book says), seccond movement by WA Mozart
Sonate in a (he only made one) first movement by WA Mozart
Airship Fortress from Mario Kart DS

The Cave of Bad Dreams from Rayman 2 (same goes for this one)
Dephts of the Night from Chrono Trigger DS (same goes for this one too)
"The Dark Knight Overture" by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard--borrows mostly from the final album track, "A Dark Knight"--a piece that gives me chills every single time I listen to it. If you haven't heard that piece yet, I would highly recommend listening to it.
I'm learning a few of my own Pokémon Mystery Dungeon arrangements, including:
(1.) PMD1 File Select / Whiscash Pond
(2.) PMD1 Questionnaire
(3.) PMD2 Temporal Tower
One of the reasons I'm doing this is because one of the most common concerns people tell me about my arrangements is that they're too complex, that I'm asking too much by having multiple layers in one or both hands. I'm going to show otherwise.
I'm trying to learn a few National Anthems on Piano.
My favorites are Isreal's, Russia's, and Japan's.
^Really? Israel's one sounds a bit sad... the one from my recording sounds sad. Kimigayo is too simple and Russia's is awesome, but if I play it my family will kill me...

I can still play it, I really like it, it's such a beautiful piece.
Sooo many pieces, between me picking up tons of stuff and my piano teacher heaping lots of them on me...
That's good. Furnish up your technique before the details.
Well of course. I love music more than anything else in the world. It's only natural I'd start playing so many pieces. XD I love my piano teacher because I'll bring her totally random pieces, some of them really contemporary and not classical like she's used to, and she'll be like "wow that's fantastic" or at least "that's very interesting" instead of "don't play that..." like other people do
Has your teacher taught you the concept of the finger going into the key fast, but shallow/light? Or alternatively, wrist movement?
Idk what you're talking about, I just use my own technique and add expression where I see fit...and as for wrist movement, no... in my opinion that doesn't matter much
Quote from: SlowPokemon on May 12, 2012, 11:52:04 AMadd expression where I see fit...
How do you add expression? By manipulating the way you strike the keys, which is what I was talking about.
Quote from: SlowPokemon on May 12, 2012, 11:52:04 AMand as for wrist movement, no... in my opinion that doesn't matter much
If you feel wrist movement isn't important, you should at least relax your wrist. However since both of these concepts are near impossible to explain with words alone, if anyone ever talks to you about them make sure you listen, because they're very important.
Anything like that just comes natural to me, if I tried to concentrate on my wrists everything would mess up. I do what feels right. Wrist technique isn't that important in my opinion anyway....
You do want to keep them relaxed though, mostly to avoid injuring them. Having screwed up wrists sucks, trust me.
Wrist technique is important for arpeggios and scales, that's all. You don't need to concentrate on your wrist - you just need to relax it, and you'll do the right motions naturally.
Quote from: SuperFireKirby on May 12, 2012, 07:46:58 PMYou do want to keep them relaxed though, mostly to avoid injuring them. Having screwed up wrists sucks, trust me.
I used to have a really stiff wrist. Luckily for me I managed to change my technique before I got injured, but I still got injured anyway. Currently my third finger right hand is injured, and I have to play one hand pieces for 3 weeks, then 9 finger pieces for the next three weeks...
^That must suck-.- Get well soon (that goes for all of you people that have injured hands/fingers/wrists from playing piano)
Learning Jenova(Piano Collections) atm and darn is it the hardest song I've ever learned T.T oh well I can play around half of it at 100% speed wohoo ;) im getting there!
Learning a couple songs right now on my violin for my final school concert, which is in three weeks, I think. Let's hope I have most of these song names correct...
- Hallelujah Chorus (Handel)
- Cello Concerto in C Major - First Movement (Haydn)
- some Oboe Concerto thing (Vivaldi)
- a currently unnamed song by one of my classmates who plays the cello
- Fountain of Dreams (special arrangement by me)
I think we're getting another one, too. Seems unlikely right now but whatever. We also have another song that I don't think we'll be playing.
Couldn't post any video links, too lazy right now. After the concert passes, I'll see just how close my names were here compared to what's on the program card at the performance.
This is what I'm going to try to learn in the summer:
Schumann Op. 9 Carnival [as much movements as possible before fall semester]
Chopin Etude Op. 10 No. 5
[possibly] Kapustin Etude No. 3 (cuz a certain someone showed me this music :D )
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow - Trainer Battle Theme
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum - Elite Four Battle/Gym Battle
some other random Pokemon music
Fantasy on Themes from Rienzi

Night on Bald Mountain and Pictures at an Exhibiton by Modest Moussorgsky.
Both of which I am taking great liberties with, along with nearly everything else I learn.
Is it just coincedence that his name is insanely close to Modest Mouse, or was someone along the lines just very clever one day and decide to put an O in his name so it almost spelled Mouse? Because his last name is actually Mussorgsky.
The name I learned was with the O, plus Russian names usually have multiple transliterations anyway.
More than I ever have before... 10 total actually. Of course I have until like next year to get them all polished but still it's a little overwhelming D:
Bach: P&F Dm WTC I
Beethoven: Piano Sonata in E 14/1 - omg I love this one so much~ and then I realized it was an 'easy' one ;__;

Invention #8 in F Major, by Bach.
...If this is an easy piece for any of you guys I feel stupid. But this piece is driving me up the wall. I'm having trouble coordinating my hands to do the same thing when one clef is doing the same thing as the other a measure behind, if you who play inventions get what I'm saying. Any tips?
Ive never played a song like that, but usually for songs with complicated left hands, try playing it over and over again to the point where you arent even paying attention to it while you're playing it, and it becomes almost mechanical. Once you've got the notes down you can add all the other fancy stuff like dynamics or whatever (does Bach even put those? I'm bad with composers)

Maybe you misunderstood me? That's one of my favorite pieces of all time.
Its amazing :D I've only seen one and a half of his movies with his songs, and its kinda hard for me to relate a song without a visual. Ill eventually watch the rest. Spirited Away is very good. Also, the movie Ponyo isn't fantastic, but the soundtrack is totally gorgeous.

However, I tried learning it before, but stopped because I had to learn a million other songs for school, too.

I'm planning to have my orchestra teacher have us play a song with a solo violin part that I could play (when I'm good enough, maybe in two or three years/junior or senior). I've been learning the following songs so I could have multiple options as to what we should play:
- Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D Major", First Movement
- "Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso" by Saint-Saëns
- "Zigeunerweisen", by Sarasate
- "Chaconne in G Minor", by Vitali
- everything from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons"
- Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto in E Minor", First Movement
All of the aforementioned songs are incredibly difficult.
EDIT: But for now, we're just learning these songs, all of which are incredibly easy:
- "Élégie" from "Serenade for String Orchestra", by Tchaikovsky
- Schubert's "Symphony No. 8 in B Minor", First Movement
- "Overture to Egmont", by Beethoven
- "Air" from "Orchestral Suite No. 3", by Bach
- "An American in Paris", by Gershwin
- "Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso" (this time the violin solo is replaced with a marimba, unless I can learn the solo right now)
Quite a lot of songs.
Gershwin!
My orchestra teacher said I could play the solo to Introduction and Rondo when we practice the song in class, and if I'm good enough, at the concert, too.
Focus has now shifted to learning Introduction and Rondo.
I decided to challenge myself and try to learn the credits theme of Pokemon GSC. First page wasn't too difficult but the shit gets real in the second page and then there's modulation coming up too.
I finally bought the 'Super Mario Series for Piano' !! :D But...it's gonna take like over a month for it to arrive. Fingers cross for it to unexpectedly arrive early.

I got my copy of that book from Long & McQuade. (Big music store for those of you who don't know)
It took me a grand total of 5 minutes.
I've decided that I want to learn all of these, eventually (:P):
Metroid - Escape Theme
Super Metroid - Ridley
Final Fantasy VII - One-Winged Angel
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - Elite 4 Battle
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal - Champion Battle
Star Fox 64 - Starwolf
Touhou 6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil - U.N. Owen Was Her?

After putting it off for so long, I'm finally going to sit down and learn Gershwin's solo transcription for Rhapsody in Blue and I'm going to try and learn the piano part from his Concerto in F.
Quote from: MaestroUGC on March 11, 2013, 11:30:01 AMAfter putting it off for so long, I'm finally going to sit down and learn Gershwin's solo transcription for Rhapsody in Blue...
Hey! I'm learning that right now too! I love that piece! ;D
Gotta love Gershwin.
I'm learning To Zanarkand from FFX.
Should be easy enough.
Greshwin is just awesome! I played prelude 1 on piano for grade 8. So dah catchy ;P
OMG IM FINALLY GONNA PLAY THIS! :D
Can someone recommend a piece to me to play? I haven't played my piano in a few days (which is actually a really long time for me) because no matter how badly I want to, all my songs are either too overplayed or easy for me. I need something that won't take me an hour to master, but won't take a month either (I'll lose interest :P)
To give you an idea of what level that piece could be:
-this song (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/Pokemon/PokemonMysteryDungeon:MagnagateandtheInfiniteLabyrinth/FileSelect.pdf) I finished in I guess 10 minutes
-Really any of the Professor Layton arrangements I can do in a day
- This one (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/100970699/Crime%20And%20Punishment.pdf) took me a couple days until I could play with all the dynamics and such
-this (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/Pokemon/PokemonMysteryDungeonBlueRedRescueTeam/TitleScreen.pdf) and this (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/100970699/PMD%202%20-%20Primal%20Dialga%20%28Solo%29.pdf) were a little too difficult and I lost interest after a while
So does anyone have an idea? You can recommend your own arrangements, I just feel empty without anything to play :P
Do you want one of mine?
If I can play it, then sure :P
I am currently finishing up "Funeral March of a Marionette" by Gounod and I must say, it is outrageously fun. It is so much fun.
Quote from: MaestroUGC on April 11, 2013, 07:52:48 PMDo you want one of mine?
If I made a few minor changes, your arrangment of Deku Palace would be playable.
You're definitely capable of playing the Super Mario World Athletic theme. Only problem is that it took me about 4 months to get it satisfactorily. (2 months to get the beginning anywhere near full speed)
I'm not gonna lie, 4 months is a long time. But it's so worth it!
That's my suggestion.

I'm surprised that I haven't given up on this yet. This is the greatest challenge of my entire life.

Hey bubbles.

Also, can someone please recommend me a NinSheetmusic song that would be a challenge, but not too hard, for a Second Grade Pianist in the NSW Conservitorium of Music?
One of mine.

I KNEW IT YOU ARE IN SECOND GRADE
Learning at the moment:
Étude Op. 25, No. 12 (Chopin) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IbCEF1XF9Q) (a bit slower) :D
Sonata in D major for two pianos (Mozart) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq1rZXzjP-I)
Arrival to Earth from Transformers (arranged by Kyle Landry) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjyviatSeCY)
This, but not even close to as good as this guy plays it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixH81CjXIrU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixH81CjXIrU)
I'm also doing a magma flows duet with my piano teacher.
ohlayyy! I love this piece :D Imma gonna play this for a competition (y)
Playing in an awards concert tonight. Then provincials. Happy happy joy joy.*
*Sarcasm

Lol I remember trying to learn that song about 6 months ago and then giving up becuase I couldn't time it properly hands together. Tbh I probably didn't spent enough time learning it hands separately... like with all songs I play
^Heh, I'm playing that song (piano) as background music for my school's play.
Speaking of Zelda music, I strongly recommend that everyone listens to ZREO's Twilight Symphony, if they haven't already. Everything about it oozes quality; it's excellently done. Gogogo.
nthx maybe l8r
Quote from: JDMEK5 on May 28, 2013, 07:15:53 PMMeanwhile in piano...
beautifulllllll this is my favourite chopin nocturne!
For 3 mallet Vibraphone/Marimba
gonna be a challenge, but will be fun to learn.
I'm no pro like you guys, but anyways...
Studying No. 24 (starts at minute 36:) and No. 25 (37:11).
Joseph Haydn, Sonata No. 30
Aaaand...
Chopin, Op. 69 (Waltzes 1 and 2)
And finally, regarding non-classical songs, I'd like to learn "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania II.
O: I'm learning the second waltz too!
If you don't mind me asking, do you mean the on-site arrangement of bloody tears or this absolutely awesome arrangement of it! (http://www.mediafire.com/?6qr6xndclj48m)
(Sorry for advertising away from nsm...)
I was learning the second waltz but then stopped before memorizing it. I can sorta play the main motive off the top of my head...

tbh I'm looking for more arrangements, I'm not really convinced with what I've seen yet. Yeah I already have Izumi's arrangement, but thanks anyways. :)
And flamenco guitar is on my list of stuff to learn now.. :P
Well, I'm learning now a lot of hardcore stuff xD
Schubert - Wanderer Fantasy
Prokofiev - Sonata Op.14 No.2 in D minor
Rachmaninoff - Corelli Variations Op.42

ALPRAS... why don't you like me, ALPRAS...
Errhrmmm... more on topic, though, I'm working on
completely learning Toy Block Tower (wonderful arrangement :3)
Letsee. Currently learning La fille aux cheveux de lin, and Nocturne in C-sharp minor (posthumous) (chopin). Dem tuplets. That part with 35 notes against 4 is proving to be a challenge to time.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm still learning that song.
Although I'm also learning Bespinben's arrangement of Dragonspiral Tower. Although I can't get through it without improvising on the bass... :P

Prok. HA XD Play this one day ;)

Playing it on the violin is devilish. The rest of the song is pretty easy, though. Also...
I'm working on an arrangement of this with a string orchestra accompaniment instead of piano. Planning on playing it next year, since this arrangement is going slowly.
OMG I LOVE THAT PIECE! XD
I was gonna play it but it was the the other G minor one. =_=
New Orleans Nightfall by William Gillock
Very interesting piece, I must say.
It seems like one of his grander/easier arrangements, so I might decide to learn this.

Yeah, it's a great program for sure!
Yes, I recently discovered this Cage's piece, I just get hypnotized hearing it, it's indescribably beautiful, it's like a continuous state of mind, absolutely amazing...
Yeah! Especially with the use of Pedal.
I can also imagine this piece done with Harp.
The pedal is always the same from the beginning to the end, no changes :P
Here is the harp version:
:)
Since I got my first full-sized digital piano last Tuesday, it is imperative that I learn something super hard right away. What a great idea. :P
I already have all the left hand memorized and can play it almost perfectly... by itself. I haven't learned any of the right hand yet because I'm lazy. Oh God, imagine playing both hands at once...

-Debussy's La Fille Aux Cheveux de Lin (The Girl With the Flaxen Hair).
-Joplin's Euphonic Sounds (mostly just polishing it up)
-Death Waltz (because why not = ;) )

It's simplified so that you only need 3 hands ;)
Haha dats good XD but 3 hands? VHATTT XDDD
I think it's about time I learned a tango.
Ah screw you guys, I could play all the Etudes by age 5!
Well, I can BS my way through Revolutionaire, so I guess that counts for something. My left hand has about all the coordination of a toddler with severe CP :P
On the topic of Joplin's music, I love it to death. His music in particular just "clicks" well with me. Same goes for Rachmaninov and Debussy. But no matter how hard I try, I just can't really get Mozart or Beethoven or Bach to really sound good. I love the music to pieces, but I guess it's just not right for me :\
Maple Leaf Rag for me.
I've already learned this song before and can play it just fine... not so sure about my other quartet members though. Gotta teach them this in about two weeks.
Can any of you recommend some notable dirges for the piano?
I am lacking dirges, and I want some to enjoy.
Any other music written for funerals or the like would also be appreciated.
Quote from: UnknownKirbyMan on October 22, 2013, 09:09:34 PMAny other music written for funerals or the like would also be appreciated.
Maybe Variation IX "Nimrod" from Elgar's Enigma Variations? Or the last movement from Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony?
"Nimrod" sounds nice, but not the sound I'm looking for. It sounds like music to be played to remember the good memories of someone.
That's not a bad thing, but not what I wanted. I want something that brings feelings of pain or longing. Because that is pleasant to me for some reason. Not the feelings themselves, necessarily, but the sound of the music. I'll probably still learn it though.
Haven't listened to or tried to play the other yet, but I'm going to now.
EDIT: This is exactly what I wanted.
