Hey,

can you upload the files with mediafire or something else that hasn't a waiting time? I hate it to wait...

excellent, now I can help.

I'll start with hero's cave

Edit: Hero's Cave (http://www.mediafire.com/?82gxxft4n7hx104)
I only changed the composer data slightly to match formatting rules. "and" was replaced with a comma.

Explorer's Crypt (http://www.mediafire.com/?i9de1icle17c4k8)
same deal as above.

Your arrangements are simple transcriptions. It looks like you transcribe them directly from the midi. Try to add something, so that people can say: "Wow!".

The pieces should have an ending, for example. I know, most of the video game music pieces doesn't have an ending (and that's good!), but if you arrange it for an instrument then there should be an ending.

Besides, use more chords (of course, if it fits)! A person, who plays piano can press more than three keys at the same time. Using more chords make your arrangements fuller and richer.

That's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to make the transcription as close to the original as possible. I'm a perfectionist that way. It's just what I do.

That's actually what happened with my (still unfinished) arrangement of Rocket Barrel from DKCR. There's a big difference between this (http://www.mediafire.com/?wxek886ntizlotu) (shadoninja begun with this notes, I made this further) and this (http://www.mediafire.com/?rmbvr5v299pdm2o).

If you call it a transcription, than it is fine.
Besides, adding chords etc. don't change the original.

Your arrangement is better than the other one. But it seems, that some chords are misplaced. Keep it up!

Alrighty, well, that took a long time.

I've put into Finale form the first three songs that you have up in your queue.

Usually, I would give suggestions and tips and such about arranging but seeing as how you've managed to only work strait from the midi file, it would prove useless. I mean, I hate to accuse anyone of copy and paste-ing, but you don't seem to hide it at all. You'll notice what I mean when you check the sheets that I've uploaded. I took the time to capture the essence of what an arrangement would look and sound like for you to observe.

Consider it them a gift. I don't want any credit, just know that I took the time to look at your sheets and appreciate hard work.

Thanks a lot, Brassman! I see what you're getting at. It's just...when it comes to music, I'm a perfectionist (as I said before), so I make it more of a transcription than an arrangement. This is made easier in Game Boy and NES games because of the type of soundtrack they use. If I was arranging something from, say, a Gamecube game, I would make it more approximated. If I do more midi-orchestrated games in the future, I would probably make it more of an arrangement.

Holy crap, Tarm Ruins! I've been looking for a transcription of that for ages!

(No pun intended...  ;D )

After playing through it on piano, it sounds pretty good, except that measure 7 isn't really playable, since the left and right hands overlap too much. if you shifted the left hand down an octave for that part and the measure after it, it'd help a lot.

Hope this helps!

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
File Select/Game Over

measure 1, 9 - I'd change the Gb to a F# in both hands.
measure 3, 11 - I'd change the Db to a C#
measures 5-8, 13-16 - the layering is a mess in the left hand. try to put the chords on one layer and the rhythm in another. I'd split the rhythm as dotted quarter, eighth tied to a quarter, quarter pattern instead of the dotted quarter, dotted quarter, quarter pattern you have written.
measures 13-16 - are those whole notes in the right hand necessary?

I would also split the quarter rest to two eighth rests throughout the piece.
It needs a metronome marking.

Mr. Resetti's Theme:

I think it'd be better if you used grace notes instead of the 32nd notes.
those 16th triplets could be replaced by a mordent.

Bowser's Theme:

feels a bit too slow. I think the tempo is actually 115

Dark Cave (Duet)*:

try to keep the parts balanced. you should give piano 2 the melody as well.

Secret Island*:

I'd replace those tied eighth notes with quarters except in between beat 2 and 3.
in the left hand, I'd make the rhythms staccato quarter note, eighth rest, eighth note tied to a quarter, quarter.
47-50 - is it necessary to have those notes in the bass that low?

Resetti's Theme: Fixed.

Bowser's Theme: Using this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxGKGAEnFhs&feature=related) as my source, I'm very sure that I'm correct.

Dark Cave (Duet): It's a one piano duet, so the piano 2 has the base line. What, you want me to have the two players cross their hands over each other?

Secret Island:
...there are none besides between beats 2 and 3.
Fixed.
Yes: listen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yidHQDRxKZo).

Post by: Shadoninja on July 23, 2011, 05:00:27 PM
Bowser's Theme:
it's fine then.

Dark Cave (Duet):

if it's a one piano duet, why are there two grand staves with treble and bass clefs in each of them? if you wanted to make a proper "four hand" duet, you'd have piano 1 renamed "primo" and piano 2 renamed "secondo". also primo should have both hands in treble clef and secondo should have both hands in bass clef(with exceptions).
also even if it was for one piano, the melody and that accompany part would clash.

Measure 9, Left Hand: The 2nd half of the measure has the wrong notes.

Unicorn's Cave:
Measure 3, Right Hand: The 3rd and 4th notes in that measure should be A's.

Raiden II Level 1:

If you're going to be using 8vb throughout the entire piece, I think it'll be better if you use an octave bass clef (basically a bass clef with an 8 written below it to indicate that notes are to be played 8vb.)

measure 1-8, 70-77

the treble clef would be better if it was a bass clef.

measure 37-40

the right hand looks a bit cluttered. perhaps you could combine them in one layer?

imo, the bass sounds too muddy when it's played in alternating octaves that low.

Ok, concerning Black Tower: Maybe it's just me, but I really dislike Menzel's metronome markings, so in my opinion this piece isn't necessarily "Prestissimo", despite being at a speed of 197. I would just say it's "Vivace", it's the same with the Chopin waltzes, the minute waltz has a speed above 300 and Chopin just said "Vivace", so it's a matter of opinion. ;D Besides, thank you very much for that!

Your Final Destination replacement is really good! I would suggest however, that you move the melody in measures 8-16 to the bass clef instead having it on layer 2 of the treble clef. You can still let those low notes ring while you use your left hand to play that melody by using the sostenuto pedal.

Hey, everyone. Got a couple new arrangements today.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Milk Bar (Jazz Ensemble):

Also, new policy: If an arrangement receives no critiquing whatsoever within two weeks of its posting, it will be put in the submission topic as it is. If you really think the arrangement couldn't go on the site as it is, please, please, please critique!

EDIT: If anyone is curious, my site (mentioned in the above posts) is currently non-existent. The hosting plan fell through.

Super Scribblenauts
Level Start

there is no reason why the tempo needs to be quarter = 196. halve the tempo and note durations accordingly.

the left hand is near impossible unless you have a massive hand span. I'd remove at least the bottom notes in the second layer.

why do you have a Bb in they key signature if the piece does not have any B's. it seems a bit unnecessary.

wasn't this song originally from scribblenauts?

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Milk Bar (Jazz Band)

17 pages is too much even for a score. adjust the measures per system system and shrink down the page size and then adjust the system spacing.

this is very odd instrumentation for a jazz band. you need trumpets, trombone, alto sax, and baritone sax.

the Bass guitar does not need an octave bass clef and, as written, would be impossible unless you detuned all of the strings which is absolutely not necessary. the same is true for the steel guitar(which you could just name Guitar) and probably the celesta.

I believe drum rules state that anything played with the hands should be stem up and anything played by the foot should be stem down or something to that effect.
the drum part needs more to it as well.

I know that it's arranged for a jazz band but don't use free time. add in a time signature.
Title: Re: Dudeman's Arrangements (11/25/2011--I'm back!)
Post by: Dudeman on November 26, 2011, 05:02:53 PM
Just a note, I kind of did Milk Bar for fun, and when I looked at the instruments, I didn't really know what kind of arrangement it was.
     Would Jazz Ensemble work better?
The octave clefs came automatically with the instruments, so I left them that way.
The drum notes wrote themselves that way. And how could I fix that, anyway?
I don't know a lot of terminology. Please define "Measures per system".
What do you mean by "shrink down the page size"?
I forgot to put in a time signature. That's why there isn't one. Will fix, though.
I just put in the drum sounds in the original. In case you're curious, I used this MIDI file. (http://www.mediafire.com/?6ppdwg0zdvfudt5)

Level Start:
I don't know if it was. I never owned the original.
The piece is in F Major/D minor, so I wrote it that way. Just because it doesn't have the notes doesn't mean I'm not going to get the key signature right.
Thanks for pointing out the bass notes; I'm going to invert the chords.
If I adjust the tempo, 1) the music will be only two measures long and 2) Quarter=98 looks way too slow for a piece like this.

Just a note: My Milk Bar arrangement sounds better if you save the link and then open it with Windows Media Player.
Also, I would really, really, really *hint hint* like my incomplete MUS files completed so that I can submit them. Thanks in advance!

Soooo...I realized that you were working on Melody Town. Now, I REALLY wanna see that music on the main site. xD I also noticed that you got the rhythm more correct than I did. I'm sort of rhythmically challenged so I decided to just share my music with you :) I also have the actual .mus document. The tempo also swings and the sheet just looks less cramped.

I don't know...in mm 1-2 and mm 37-40, I personally prefer if the left hand play that low a note and also to make the right hand seem as if it's on a steady beat. Mostly because I love how it's moving chromatically. I'm still planning to check some of the chords.

Here it is:pdf (https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B65w47mA9vyxOTlkNzZiYWUtMDQ2Mi00MmNkLTk4OTEtZmVhMTVkMjViOTNl)

If you're going to check the chords, I would suggest checking the following measures: 18, 20, 28, and 31.
You know, we could combine our arrangements and put the combined arrangement on the site under both of our names...just a suggestion.

Scrapper's Theme is pretty cool. Nice job with it. Great game.
There's just 1 enharmonic spelling I would spell differently. Many times, you use D#. This note is far removed from the key of G. Use Eb instead, which functions as a mixture, a note borrowing from the parallel minor. You do this with the F natural in the piece so it makes sense to do the Eb as well. Sometimes you have D and D# sounding at the same time, which makes little sense in this style of music. Also, Eb and G form a major third, something used throughout the piece. This spelling fully shows the major third.
Je suis fini. Awesome arrangement.

EDIT: And Bb instead of A# for all the reasons listed above.

Er...the composer line is still incomplete. The composers are Tomoya Tomita (already written in), Jun Ishikawa (last name is missing), and Hirokazu Ando. Can you redo it again? ::) I really don't like asking other people for help that I could do myself, but when the Finale version is incompatable...well...

Woo I've been asking for this for so long I'm so glad someone finally did it! It's great! Thank you!

Couple suggestions-

Measure 1: The first two notes are tied, not played twice.

Measure 5-6 and the like: The fourth beat of measure 5 and the first beat of measure 6 sound off

Measures 5-16, 25-36: There are some missing timpani voices which could really make the piece more full. You've got them on measures 3-4 and 43, but they are absent otherwise. If you're having trouble hearing them, listen starting at measure 29 where they are the most clear.

Measures 9-15 and like patterns: There are some high trumpets that continue to play the same note to a rhythm. There are also some instruments (what I believe to be trombones) playing triplets at the beginning of every measure.

Measures 37 & 39: The first chord seems to be a 16th note, 16th note, 16th rest, 16th note pattern instead of a sole quarter note.

Measure 39: The background voice that ascends, which you have beginning on measure 40, actually begins on beat three of measure 39.

Measure 43: The voice that you have coming out on measure 44 in the left hand starts on the 4th beat of measure 43, ascending

Thank you again! Those chords perfectly mimic the original epicness! :P

Nope. I checked that, and they are two separate notes.
Quote from: spitllama on March 10, 2012, 01:59:25 PMMeasure 5-6 and the like: The fourth beat of measure 5 and the first beat of measure 6 sound off
They're not. They way the chords progress just makes it sound like that.
Quote from: spitllama on March 10, 2012, 01:59:25 PMMeasures 9-15 and like patterns: There are also some instruments (what I believe to be trombones) playing triplets at the beginning of every measure.
They're quarter notes, but the drum makes them sound like triplets.

No, it doesn't. I listened for that, and it starts on beat one of measure 44.

I'm gonna fix the rest of the piece, adding the timpani, trumpet, and other rhythms that I missed.

Slightly unrelated side-note, but I started playing PBR again after I arranged this and realized that the Mysterial Battle music is just an orchestration of the Gateway Colosseum music! Kind brings the game in full circle if you think about it...

Hmm...the only adjustments I see at first glance are the staccato-tenuto'd quarter notes in measures 6, 10, etc, and the accents. Are there more?

The MUS on the site was missing grace notes.
The A#'s at 21 were changed to Bb's
The second dotted quarter was changed to an eighth tied to a quarter because proper notation.
The last four measures were transposed down an octave and have an 8va over the right hand.

Thanks! It's not completely playable yet (the intervals between the two parts in the second half of the song are pretty big), but I plan to fix that in the near future.
EDIT: Fixed the intervals. I moved the accompaniment melody to the left hand.

Title: Re: Dudeman's Arrangements (8/13/12: Pokemon Gold/Silver - Pokemon Center)
Post by: SlowPokemon on August 14, 2012, 06:06:52 PM
All right, I made a MUS even if you don't want it; I altered some things that I think make the sheet better/more professional:

A) I changed the artist, as Jun'ichi Masuda was the one who composed this song, not Go Ichinose
B) I changed the game name to Pokémon Gold and Silver rather than Pokemon Gold/Silver--it looks more professional with the é and the word "and" rather than a slash
C) I changed the copyright to Game Freak rather than Nintendo, as Game Freak is the company which created the game
D) I changed the layer issues in measures 2, 4, 6 and 8 (only an aesthetic change, just so it looks cleaner and clearer)
E) I changed the layers in measures 9 and 11--having them in the bass clef looks even worse than how it did originally. Instead, I moved them to the right hand so that it looks cleaner, and simply marked the sections that cannot be played with the right hand with the expression "LH" (indicating to play them with the left hand)
F) This is the one you might not agree with, which is fine and an easy fix--I made all the notes in the left hand simple eighth notes, rather than staccato eighth notes. There are two reasons for this--1) It's extremely difficult in measures 9 and 11 to play the bass clef notes staccato as well as the second melody as non-staccato with the same hand; and 2) It isn't necessary for the notes to be staccato in the actual song; it feels a bit out of place with the bass staccato while the melody is not.

Other than those things, your arrangement is completely the same with no note changes whatsoever.

Here are the files:
MUS (http://www.mediafire.com/?izkknffv57xg3ln)
PDF (http://www.mediafire.com/?xztozxlq03xj9np)

Please take a look at them and see what you think; even if you don't agree with the staccato thing, I think you can agree that measures 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11 look much better.

Post by: Dudeman on August 15, 2012, 01:18:20 PM
All right, the links are updated. Thanks you sooooo much, Slow!
And yes, it does look better. The staccatos aren't a big deal. I only put them there because those notes in the original are very short and crisp. But it's fine without them.

I love you. I love this song so much :D

Anyways, in bar 2 and every bar like it, the rhythm is wrong. You may need a trill sign, but since you're only missing two notes, you could probably put it in. Also, during the left hand melody where there's held notes, why not have the held notes in the left hand and the moving notes in the right? It just seems like a terrible strain to hold a note and move using one hand while the other is sitting idly by.

Anyways, apart from that, great arrangement! Well done and keep up the good work! :D

Please note: New Dropbox accounts created after October 4, 2012 no longer have a Public folder. Don't worry! Every account created prior to this date will still have a Public folder. If you would like to enable a Public folder on a new account, see the instructions below (Creating a Public folder).

However, all the extra functionality provided by the Public folder is now accessible anywhere in your Dropbox. Now all you need to do to share and preview files and folders in your Dropbox is select Share link via your computers, phones, and tablets. Take a look at Dropbox links here or go to this article to see how it works.

Yeah, saw that just before you posted. I'll be editing the links now.
EDIT: All right, that should do it. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

Great job on that arrangement! You hit every note perfectly. Well done.

Also, "Yeah, I'm going to go with false on that one."

You should arrange more Mega Man music. I think the Elec Man theme on the site might need replacement.

It's missing the part that happens at about 0:07, 0:09, 0:19, and 0:22 in the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2VNoFhYL1g). See what I mean?

In case anyone's interested, I downloaded FamiTracker, and 8-bit composition program...and I've got nothing to do with it. So if anyone wants to hear a favorite song of theirs in 8-bit, I might (only might) just do it.

WHAT GAME ARE YOU CONSIDERING LPING?!?  :o

I love LPs, as if that wasn't obvious. If you LP a good game, I'll almost certainly watch it.

Probably gonna start with Mega Man X, and if I get a dazzle card (or whatever it's called), I might do some SMG, LoZ:SS. Right now it's really up in the air.

Fun fact: This piece is one of several songs that was redone before they were put in-game. Although I based the arrangement on the in-game version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX12iHQ3me8), I prefer the unused version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0IL_MGREdA).

It sounds good, but I have to ask: are you using the latest version of MuseScore? It looks like you did this in MS 1.3, judging by the beaming mistakes and manually corrected slurs. Version 2.0 of the program handles these automatically - I exported the XML from the MUS, imported it into MuseScore 2.0 and it looks a lot nicer. Try it out!

Also, 16th notes followed by rests within the same beat can often be abbreviated as a staccato 8th.

Well I'll be darned! There is an update available! I'll have to grab that ASAP.
Also, those 16th notes are all(?) on off-beats, so I kept the rests for clarity's sake. Would it be wiser to change it back?

Check a couple of posts above. It's more of a for-fun midi transcription anyway, so you won't be playing it any time soon. I suppose I should stick it in the OP anyway, though.

*notices ur necrobump* owo whats this??

Yes, hello friends, it is indeed I, posting in my arrangements topic. I had the time today so I've cleaned up my OP a little and removed all links to arrangements I no longer have the files for. There's still quite a bit in there I really need to fix up and get finished, but in the meantime...

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Maya Fey ~ Turnabout Sisters' Theme 2001 (Replacement): [PDF] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/3g6dybnp5ab67xz/Maya%20Fey%20~%20Turnabout%20Sisters%27%20Theme%202001.pdf?dl=0)[MIDI] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/2hsycto6pu7nu7x/Maya%20Fey%20~%20Turnabout%20Sisters%27%20Theme%202001.mid?dl=0)[MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/hpkeu59tsz7fhlu/Maya%20Fey%20~%20Turnabout%20Sisters%27%20Theme%202001.mus?dl=0)[MSCZ] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kj9p6sh21aoc64e/Maya%20Fey%20~%20Turnabout%20Sisters%27%20Theme%202001.mscz?dl=0)

Please don't look at the on-site version of this; you might cry. This piece is in desperate need of a replacement. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. The only problem is the conversion to MUS: Because of the layering of this piece, I ended up hiding some note flags in the MuseScore version to give the chords a uniform look before breaking up into their respective rhythm lengths. Unfortunately, XML doesn't preserve hidden note flags, and I can't find any way to do so in Notepad. But I Notepadded the heck out of this one otherwise so hopefully it's not too wonky! Positioning is always a crapshoot during conversion.

I don't really have an answer for that. I just wanted to check the last time I had posted anything here, and that spiraled into cleaning up all my old links. I've had that arrangement sitting around for a couple of months, but didn't post it because I felt the need to clean up my PAT first. Today was just the first time I ended up doing it.
