Title: pumpy_heart's Submissions - 7/16 Professor Layton & the Diabolical Box- Puzzles2
Post by: pumpy_heart on April 19, 2008, 08:17:44 AM
News - 7/16
Here's some treats that may grab an ear or two.
And here's this, for anyone who missed it. Merry Christmas Battle MUS (http://www.mediafire.com/?ooe4rq2cj0b6mur)
Only a few songs left that I promised to arrange. Last days of arranging for NSM yayagogo. I'm kind of excited to be honest. I've learned a lot here. Time to just fully devote in giving back to the community by being the guy from which no one wants to hear critique. Keep the newer, better arrangers going full throttle.

Not much of a song... :-\

^ well that's not very constructive now!

Impossible seems to be the key word.  Are there any other parts in the piece that could be substituted for the nearly constant 16th runs?  Those really destroy any chances of a real person playing it.
Title: Re: Pump_heart's arrangements
Post by: razer84 on April 19, 2008, 01:54:08 PM
hot damn that's impossible.

It's actually called "The Final Battle", according to the recording I have.

Anyways, there are a bunch of parts that I think are off, but with such a complex song, I don't really wanna spend time to check it... >_>

Galbadia Hotel has them labeled wrong. This song, though impossible, is still great.

You guys stink haha.
Anyways, no. I've dimmed it down too much.
It is near impossible, but, I have a friend who could read it in like...30 mins. So please dont call it impossible.
It may not be for amateurs, but that does not make it impossible!
Plus, this being an awesome song, it deserves everything here.
It is correctly titled "Doom Dragon Battle".

Ok, what the hell guys, this song is perfectly playable.  Please tell me what you think isn't playable and I'll PERSONALLY make a video of that single section.  ::) Like, I'll actually do it.  But yeah, it sounds awesome, but I don't know the song at all so I have no idea whether it's accurate or not.  If you can though, I would fix how it doesn't group up sets of 16th notes for some reason.  (They're split up into 2s instead of 4s...wtf?)
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's arrangements
Post by: blah54 on April 19, 2008, 05:40:11 PM
this is certainly playable... just on the more difficult end of the spectrum... the doubling of certain notes as 16th notes might be painful at correct tempo though lol...

bars 5-20 sound far better with the actual instruments... on piano it almost sounds almost messy, but it still gives a pretty good feel, and sadly it doesnt give the same epicness the real version does...

but good job arranging this, you've done a good job on it.
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's arrangements
Post by: pumpy_heart on April 20, 2008, 01:49:52 PM
gamer- It splits them up because its in like...7/8 or something. so if it were in fours, there would also have to be a group of three.....which would be awkward.
blah- Thanks

Anyways, Ima update this some now. Give you guys more stuff to look at. To start, let me update my Golden Sun section :)
EDIT: Yep. more stuff.
Go crazy music people lovers!!!!!!

@pumpy: Why are you limiting yourself in measure 22 till 25 to one hand? I play this part with two hands, so I see no point in using one when having two hands. =p

Aaah, you did Brawl's Wi-Fi Waiting Room! <3 My favorite song when I'm playing the guitar.

Post by: Palagerini on April 23, 2008, 06:20:15 AM
the Halo Theme is really good... all the needs to be changed is the beginning... It's too fast... In my opionon just make all the quarter notes half notes basically... and the dotted half note a whole note.. otherwise it's really good...

To the Pokemon Game Corner song: In the few first measure there are these two 16ths, one 8th chords. You should add staccatos, these chords are much shorter.

@G-Han - A staff doesnt bind the hand...I constantly switch back and forth for a lot of things. You are playing it as I do.
@Palagerini - Read my comments on the piece. I mentioned this problem there.
@Korados - I did before. It looked really sloppy, so I opted to take them out. However, it still sounds ok without them.

I will take any more advice/ critique!
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's arrangements (Updated 4/22 with HALO, Zelda Cd-I, BRAWL!, Soni
Post by: blah54 on April 23, 2008, 05:14:16 PM
wow you did a lot of arranging... i've only looked at a few but...

saturos and menardi battle... the bass throughout doesnt sound so nice, even though that the's nature of the piece... bars 22-23 (left hand), bars 38-45 (right hand) are unplayable... (MAYBE, MAYBE bars 38-45 could be playable, but bars 22-23, the keys on a piano simply dont rise that fast lol...)

wifi waiting room
something is definitely wrong with the left hand, it just sounds ugly with the melody...

If you've never heard of it, read this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-i_games_from_The_Legend_of_Zelda_series) from wikipedia. You'll see why it's kinda unheard of, especially at the reception part of the article.

I am pretty sure the songs were the same from all games. I think I remember reading that somewhere...
If not, the midi said "The Wand of Gamelon" for both of them, so I guess those.
Good songs for a crappy game.

Post by: blah54 on April 28, 2008, 06:30:03 PM
for golden sun rises... bars 5-7 aren't quite right... and the tripled quarter notes don't always sound that right...

jupiter lighthouse is nice up until the full natural section... the emptiness, this seems to happen in many arrangements, whole note left hand parts are A) boring and easy and B) not really making full use of the piano... however i do respect that sometimes there is frankly nothing else to put there...

your air's rock theme is pretty good...
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's arrangements (Updated 4/28)
Post by: pumpy_heart on April 28, 2008, 06:37:39 PM
GSR - I recall it being a lil weird possbly. However, I think what you are talking about is correct. Ill double check it with ingame, but yea.
Jupiter Lighthouse - I had it repeating the notes from the beginning in the second layer as well as those notes. However, this caused it hard to read the primary layer and also is impossible to hit every note in the run from the beginning whil hitting the notes from the primary layer.
Air's Rock- Probably my favorite Golden Sun piece. I wouldn't screw this up :P

I loved that song, but i could never arrange it due to software limitations and the fact that i suck when it comes to figuring out time sigs sometimes. Still, I heard a few minor errors, particularly for the left hand. Do you mind if I look it over and try to fix some of the notes for you?

Is the treble part of Sonic Boom not supposed to be the melody?  I'm listening to the original (and have listened to it many many times, I love this song) and it just doesn't match.  Is this some harmony part that I just can't hear under the lyrics?
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's arrangements (Updated 6/24) NEW SONG!!!!Virtual Boy!!!!
Post by: pumpy_heart on July 06, 2008, 08:02:31 PM
lol. The Treble part is the lyrics for the most part. Sometimes, I put the guitar part in.
I've listened to its on the tube and confirmed my sheet. However, if there are more specific measures you need to ask about, let me know.
I can also go back and harmonize the vocal/treble part if you would like.
EDIT: I just realized the repeat is wrong. I can fix that later. Ima change my submission.
But if you have problems with what is done so far, let me know.

High school is almost over.
I have free time out of my ears.
I mainly use Sibelius, but feel bad with all these things arranged just sitting on my desktop.
I'll try to get all of these uploaded or on the site by the end of summer, for all to enjoy :)

I think Pokémon D/P music was basically just "Look at how many instruments we have! And we can all make them play different melodies AT THE SAME TIME!!!!11"

Also, your Viridian city sounds awesome. But I think it needs some 8va.
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's Submissions- July 14th Requested Songs and Viridian City!
Post by: pumpy_heart on July 15, 2010, 02:20:16 PM
It probably could use 8va. I only have Songwriter 2007 and it doesn't have that feature. =/
If anyone would do that in the obvious place that it needs it, I would be greatly obliged. :)

you gotta go with what works. also check the "Calling all Pokémon Arrangers" Thread. Just in case GreekGeek doesn't respond, we may have to absorb (haha, Pokémon move) his claimed arrangements. So you can go ahead and pick one!

Pokémon March! Awesome!

Goldenrod City is too awesome! Though, it should be marked with an "8va assist" tag in the opening post, or something along those lines.

Elm's Lab is awesome. Though, I kinda like the HGSS version of it better. More bouncy. But that is far off-topic.

All in all, awesome.

Show Me Around has some questionable spans in the right hand.

Rocket Hideout is good. That's all there is to say.

Vermilion city is awesome. But note that there's only one L in the name.

Show Me Around - That's why it's optional. Sometimes you can hit them, sometimes not. Changing the range only makes it messy.

Rocket - Thanks (:

Vermilion City - I can't believe I misspelled that twice now. Thanks man. I'll fix that.

Rocket Hideout is really good, but something's bugging me about bar 13 (of all the numbers...). It may be perfectly to the tune, but to me it sounds like the D in the right hand needs a sharp. That's just my opinion though, and you don't have to pay attention if you don't want to. The rest is really good. So are Show Me Around and Vermillion City.

Post by: Sekter77 on December 02, 2010, 01:13:50 PM
Nice. It's great to see some appreciation for Donkey Kong Land 2!
There's only a few issues. I think the bass notes should drop in measures 7-8 and 11-12 and there's another 2 measures before the repeat that are pretty similar to measures 13-16. Lastly, the tempo is a bit too fast; it should be around 127, not 140.

I don't have a copy of Bug-Catching Contest though, sorry. I hope someone can find it for you.

Ahh I see what you are talking about with the tempo. Forgot to check this one with the original. That can be fixed.
However, I don't hear a bass drop in measures 7 or 8. I can add the other two measures though. Easily.
I'll update it later tonight, hopefully.

I always wondered why my thread never has near the amount of comments that most others do. Either I arrange so poorly so there's no further hope, I don't upload music from games people like, I don't contribute enough to the community, or there is no reason and I'm wasting my time wondering.

It's because you guys don't need someone hanging over your shoulders fixing things. The arrangements are great when added, people acknowledge the addition of their favorite song, and that's about that. I suppose making frequent trips to the "request" board to help untalented users would always help though :P

No reason to really be bothered by it. Just after being here since 2008, you have 8 pages while people from 2010 have 30+.
And I do visit the request board quite a bit. I do requests here or there. I think I'm on up there in winterkid's fulfilling the requests thing haha.

This (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=2299) confirms it was uploaded to the site.
This (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/SuperMario/NewSuperMarioBrosWii/World5:Forest.mus) is link that does not exist to the sheet. I remember that the submitted sheet wasn't formatted for some reason. Guess I uploaded before I saved. So I dunno what to say. It was uploaded, but I guess it's not there anymore. Not on my laptop anymore because my hard drive crashed. =/
I'll let Winter know and see if there's something that happened to it. Thanks for alerting me.

That right hand sure does overpower the melody though (probably just the playback?)

Thanks you guys! Yeah, it's definitely playback. I could edit that, but meh.

Here's another Skyward Sword piece!

[Wii] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Lumpy Pumpkin - Day - Present MUS (http://www.mediafire.com/?2siqlh7p956i8mm) MIDI (http://www.mediafire.com/?u5aalbllk4p000p)

Yes, you do need to be able to whistle for that last bit. And I okay'd it with Winter. Any comments/critique more than welcome. Trying to get these two sheets critiqued enough to get submitted this update.
I don't know how to avoid collision in the 2nd layer and 1st layer. The E dotted half note in the final section of the piece consistently hits the G#. Any ideas how to fix? I've tried fixing the spacing of the notes and accidentals with the fix spacing feature. Hmmm...

I believe the original is much slower, and you could do some more with the melody (thirds, etc.), but that's all that comes to mind at the moment. Great arrangement!

Title: Re: pumpy_heart's Submissions - 1/17 New Skyward Sword! Lumpy Pumpkin!
Post by: pumpy_heart on January 17, 2012, 07:22:51 PM
Yeah, I can add the thirds. Would make it harder to play and take away from the simplicity of the song. They do get added at certain parts to show the varying sections. Could orchestrate much more, but this isn't a full piano sort of song, I think. Feel free to add in the full chords at your own desire. The tempo may be 4 clicks off, you're right. It's not that far off though. Just feels a lot slower when listening to it haha.

Thanks! I also enjoyed that part. Got the thumbs up for it, works great!

Still can be played normally though.
Here's another one from Skyward Sword. This one's kinda important, crucial to the story. Summarizes a lot of what Zelda is and what it stands for. Let me know if something is odd.

Maybe thinking of quitting. I mean, when was the last time I really tried and put a ton of effort into it? Skyward Sword? Those were too simple to really count. And even then, it was only 3-4 pieces.
All my arrangements will still be on the site =D

I'm not done, still got what's left in my first post to finish. But after that, it'll be hard to continue. You guys have all grown up; your work is far better than when you first began. I'm not too decided. It's almost like it's already happened though, you know? My new things got very sparse. And when I did, quickly got pushed back a few pages due to all the new stuff really happening.
If something needs to be arranged, I'll probably do it. But to say I've even remotely tried in a year or so just wouldn't be the truth. I enjoy it when it's something I want to arrange real fast. Never going to lose that feeling. But composition is far more enjoyable and far more important now to me.

Haha guys. I'm not leaving. Stating that I don't arrange as much as I used to really doesn't mean anything. If people hadn't noticed it before, now they can.
Finishing 20th Century Analysis really makes you view tonal music in a new light. Game soundtracks must be more than random nice songs, they all have to fit. Which is why I might try to hammer out the rest of the R/B/Y soundtrack real quick before the summer is over.
But to answer your question Deku, of course. :)

I'll finish what I said I'll finish. The rest will end up being bonuses.
Romantic is one of my favorites, if not favorite. I guess we had a stage of Neo-classics. A lot of composers are neo-romantic these days. Soon we'll have neo-serials if we don't watch out.

You can do one of two things--this song is nearly identical to the song "Puzzles" from the first game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, so you could change the game name. However, there are subtle differences, so if you find it's really closer to the Diabolical Box, the official soundtrack name is "Puzzles 2." Anyway I'm posting from my phone and nowhere near my computer, so I'll look at this Wednesday or so. Glad to see more Layton arrangements besides my own cropping up lately ;D

Post by: pumpy_heart on July 16, 2012, 08:42:28 AM
I definitely based it off the "Puzzle" from Diabolical Box and the lowest line is different in both. Could easily dictate the original, but this one is much more suited for piano as the lines don't overlap much. Will change it to the proper name when I get back!

And no problem Nebbles. Hope you enjoy it! :D

Post by: SlowPokemon on August 12, 2012, 11:21:52 AM
Oh, and I know this is incredibly delayed, but here are my comments on the sheet:

I have no idea what the division sign-ish thing means, but I'm assuming it means to replay the previous measure. But if this were the case, why didn't you just copy the same measure throughout the piece? This would also solve ambiguity issues after the repeat sign (should you play the first measure, or the measure right before the repeat sign?).

As far as concrete issues go, in measures two and six, the eighth notes should begin with F, Gb, not the notes you had listed.

Great arrangement, accurate and playable as far as I can see.
Title: Re: pumpy_heart's Submissions - 7/16 Professor Layton & the Diabolical Box- Puzzles2
Post by: pumpy_heart on August 12, 2012, 07:26:31 PM
The one measure repeat sign always means repeat the previous measure or the first measure in the chain. There's no need to show the notes again. Seeing new notes as a performer would make me think that the notes change over time, or could at any moment. This would let me just concentrate on the lower staff. It's quite useful in repetitive pieces.

Yeah, you're right on those two notes. My b. New one is up on the front page.
