Title: Arrangement Project (Dragon Quest IX)
Post by: K-NiGhT on January 04, 2012, 08:01:31 PM
Hey, all. I'm making a team of arrangers for Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies! If you want to help, a list of recordings to every OST is right here. (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C2AE62D22D392C06) If anyone would like to make said help official, just reply to this thread.

Our Arrangers:
K-NiGhT
Shadoninja
pumpy_heart
Winter
triforced1
The Deku Trombonist
insaneintherain
Brassman388
Warioman98
Still seeking arrangers, hoping to make this on-going!

All right, let's get the barebones out of the way first. Remember to follow all of G-Han's guidelines to making a sheet!
Composer: Koichi Sugiyama
Copyright: Level 5, Square Enix (c) 2009

An Optional Idea would be to have someone make an entire medley of these songs. Then through the magic of video editing, we could have everyone do their arrangments, record them, and i could make a video of it :D it's BRILLIANT!

As soon as you finish an arrangement, put it on the thread so i can get it on the main post. We may get our very own update!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

*raises hand*

you should probably maintain a list of all of the tracks and any arrangers working on said tracks.

and sign me up for "the palace Oboe" which i'm almost done with.

well I started working on it about 6-8 months ago and haven't had much time to work on it. I had the basic form of it down and all I had to do was add some articulations and clean it up a bit.

anyways:
[NDS]Dragon Quest IX: Sentinel of the Starry Skies - The Palace Oboe MUS (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36661985/WIP/Submission/The%20Palace%20Oboe.mus)

there are still some enharmonic things I probably need to fix.

also I'd like to do pub polka. (I probably sound like an excited child by now)

I believe the tempo is 80.
The key signature seems to be D minor based off of the first arpeggio and bass note. there's a key change at around 3:12 which seems to be D Major.

Mediafire's a lot better than some other options, aka megaupload due to the wait time of 60 seconds unless you have a payed, premium account.

In mediafire, either
1. Have adblock plus, or
2. Exit out of any pop-ups that might appear? XD

It's definitely not atonal. Just a lot of mixture. Sounds more impressionist to me. And in C or G. They love disguising that stuff. The mixture suggests C though.
Just try to avoid any dissonant augmented or diminished intervals through notation. So in measure 8, use C# to A# instead of Bb. Good job arranging this though. Difficult piece, I'm sure.

Alright. I've finished Evening in the Village, but I'm having problems with the formatting. I have a good PDF and .XML file of the files I have, but when I import the XML file into Finale Notepad (which I just use for conversions), I can't resize the music at all to make it look pretty. By any chance, could I send you the MUS file which I've produced with Finale Notepad and the PDF, produced with Musescore?

I don't think you understand what I mean. The mus that Finale Notepad generates from my imported XML file into it looks NOTHING like I want it to. And since I don't use Finale, I was wondering if you could move a few things in the file and then post it, according to the PDF. Presentation is a big thing for me. XP

Ok! Let's finish this once and for all so we can start the Mother 3 project!  :P

I'll take Come to Our Town and Riding in the Ark.

Come to Our Town: 10% done.
Riding in the Ark: 40% done.

Expect them in 4-5 days.

EDIT: Erm... Now that I've actually heard the whole songs, maybe in 6-7 days. I thought they were a lot shorter.

EDIT 2: Riding in the Ark almost half completed.

No, it hasn't died! I'm working on a song (see above)! I really want to complete it so we start another project *cough* Mother 3 *cough*, but I won't do all the songs myself, will I?

If you want, just do it on musescore, extract midi, post it here and then someone could open that midi in Finale and create a .mus. Simple.

Hahah a couple of years. Some flew in more than others. Submissions have always been slow, so it's been a process getting them all up there. Pretty drained now and there's still a good amount left. Maybe someday it'll get done.

I'm still down for Alchemy Pot when I get around to it.

I've been hesitant to arrange anything from this lately since there's an official piano score. I think I'm going to have to drop out of DQIX.
Title: Re: Arrangement Project

There's a piano score now? Links plz.

If there is, then because of copyright things, I suppose we'll have to drop out of DQIX and move on to something else more well known that people will want to do.

Should we take down all the Pokémon RBY arrangements because there's an out-of-print official piano book for it? Of course not.
Should we tell Ganondorf to stop arranging Kingdom Hearts stuff because there are official piano books for the series? Of course not.

As long as you don't copy from the official version, making your own transcription is fine, which is best done by not looking at the official version at all for ideas.

Aren't most of the good soundtracks going to have a piano book? It's not like we can't do something just because of that.
Title: Re: Arrangement Project
Post by: pumpy_heart on August 10, 2012, 08:17:13 PM
You guys go right ahead. I don't want to speak for Shado, but I'm not going to be involved in Mother 3 because it has a piano book. Seems like the same reason Shado dropped IX.

Contra had 0 arrangements on the web that I could find, so I did that entire soundtrack almost 2 years ago now. Choose something like that.

BUMP. I drop IX too, but not because of the official book, it's just that I don't really care about it (never liked Dragon Quest really).
If we're going to start a new project, I think a poll with various options would be nice.

How many have been arranged so far?

Ask K-NiGhT. There seems to be 10 so far.

By the way, mine is already being submitted for the next update, so don't worry about it.

Again, sorry for the bump. :P
Title: Re: Arrangement Project (Dragon Quest IX)

Time for a huge bump. I've been looking through all the sheets we did for this and would hate for them to go to waste (also, that's a good majority of stuff I could be adding to the site under my name!) So, I'm going to keep working on these and either slowly submit them one by one, or just dump them all in one huge submission spree when i get the time.
