Post your number one favorite and number one least favorite ending to a video game here!
Favorite: PMD
Played through the main story about 7 times now. Cried every damn time! So emotional :(
Least Favorite: Soulcalibur V
The two main characters sound like a married couple rather than a brother and sister (the latter of which they actually are.) so of course they go live together for the rest of their miserable lives and have kids with 11 toes.
GAMES WITH AMAZING ENDINGS
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga/Partners in Time/Bowser's Inside Story
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
Professor Layton and the Curious Village/Diabolical Box/Unwound Future/Last Specter (especially the first three)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: All
GAMES WITH NOT SO AMAZING ENDINGS
Luigi's Mansion...mostly I just hate how it makes you restart actually

That's stupid though, I can't just pick one. Ugh, probably Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, but Unwound Future was more emotionally moving. And BIS was just funny.
PMD endings make me cry. XD
Legend of Zelda PH.
It had good music and a good story, but there's nothing that happens when you win!
Best:
Dark Cloud 2 - Of course you'd expect me to pick this, but the ending is possibly one of the greatest highlights of the entire game. It is completely satisfying, brought me to nearly to tears with how sad it is, and they give you a giant bonus dungeon to go through in case so you wouldn't be able to cite "IT ENDS" as a bad thing about the game's ending.
Worst:
Fable III - the ending was pretty really stupid and there is almost nothing to do besides attempt to collect all the keys/gnomes/books/flowers afterwords, unless you buy the DLCs.
Best ending: Pikmin 2. I never expected that Louie would be lost on the Pikmin planet and you could play with the President! And the real final ending is so heartwarming, with all those Pikmin glowing... :'(
Added mine finally.
Duuuuude, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future has an ending ten times more sad than Mystery Dungeon, though both made me cry like a baby. I love all of these games.
Level-5 is extremely talented at making us feel sad.

I really wish i had gotten into Professor Layton games :(
The first Pikmin will always have a special place in my heart :3
Hmmm...I think out of all the games I've played the one with the worst ending imo was Children of Mana.
I remember I used to be quite frustrated with the ending of Super Mario Sunshine. At 30 stars, you could get sunglasses. After you beat Bowser, you could get sunglasses and a funky Hawaii shirt. After you had got all 120 stars, and beat Bowser... nothing. Not even a pat on the back as a recognition that all the Shines were collected. You didn't get to meet Elvin Gadd. No new funky things to wear. The Shine Gate just sat there boring like usual. Peach didn't come back. You didn't even get a Flying Nozzle. It was all just "you know, we stopped caring after you got Bowser the first time". At least Pokémon R/B/Y gave you a diploma for catching all the Pokémon.
The Wind Waker's ending is quite good, I think. After living "on life support" for centuries, kept intact though essentially dead, Hyrule is finally lost to oblivion. Its last king decides to stay in the deep. Ganondorf is dead. The Master Sword has finally found its last resting place (Ganondorf's frontal lobe). And Link and his new friends embark on a new adventure, roaming the seas to see what's on the other side. And the ending theme was quite sweet as well.
I think one of the best endings I've seen is the ending of De Blob. The giant spaceship explodes in a swirl of color and Chroma City becomes happy and colorful again. And Blob goes back to the jungle and takes a nap. All while jazzy music plays in the background. :D
I can't really think of a bad ending I've seen off the top of my head.
i would say all the professor layton endings where great. Skyward sword definitely a great ending.
ehh...i think mario and luigi bowser's inside story was a really bad ending...
Yeah, they could've done a lot more with the ending. Battling Bowser would've been fun.
You already fought him earlier though. I thought it ended appropriately and hilariously.
Yeah, I guess. Not as good as SS and PiT. They had good endings!
I agree, personally I liked PIT the best! :)
haha really?!
yeahhh!!! go pit! i just got a massive kid icarus uprising poster from the nintendo magazine. :P
back to the bad endings...
the ending was quite to sudden in Bowser inside story. this game was easier than partners in time. i tried starting partners in time twice and still cannot defeat the boss after bowser...i forgot who it was...
I meant Partners in Time, not Pit... :P never played Kid Icarus.
Worst ending: Every single game that ignores that you beat the final boss and just goes on like nothing happened after the last save
Best ending: hmm, though one. Skyward Sword had a big impact on me (the whole story had), and it didn't just send you back to before the final boss. meh, I'll go with that (I do like how the oracle-games didn't end at all until after the second time you beat it (well, 2 on each))
Quote from: SlowPokemon on February 28, 2012, 05:53:12 AMI meant Partners in Time, not Pit... :P never played Kid Icarus.
lol damn!
I liked Dead Space 2's ending because it's happier than the first's, and after all the shit you have to go through, you deserve it.
Assassin's Creed's ending sucks. You're walking around, you're looking at something, and then it kind of just fades to credits. It's like it's ending in the middle of the game.
I loved the Super Mario Galaxy ending, it was so touching and emotional that I even cried. (yes in real life I sometimes cry over video game endings)

Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who wants new PMD games. :D
Don't get me wrong I loved those games and the stories were great and incredibly moving and I cried, etc, but the gameplay itself was so repetitive. I'm not a huge fan of dungeon crawling unless I'm really in the mood for it.

Skyward Sword have an excellent ending, but why is link always being friendzoned? Where's the kiss?!
^In the animated series. ::)

Can you give me the youtube link? I mean, if its on youtube...
Favorite: Mystery Dungeon Red (very emotional) :'(
Least Favorite: Call of Duty Black Ops (waaaaaaay too cheesy) :P
Best ending: Professor Layton: Unwound Future. It made me cry uncontrollably (but I suppose that really isn't saying much since I recently cried over OoT XD)
Worst ending: Scribblenauts. I accidentally got to the end of the game, and when the credits rolled, I was like, "What the Flygons?!" But I guess I shouldn't have expected too much out of that game.
Quote from: Fleetstar The Flygon on April 22, 2012, 08:47:30 AMBest ending: Professor Layton: Unwound Future. It made me cry uncontrollably.
Same. God I loved that game.
Worst: Mass Effect 3...lol jk I've never played ME3. No, I'd say Super Mario Galaxy 2. The final boss was plain boring and the final cut scene was just...there were no huge shockers, no gut-wrenching sad goodbyes, and even the Mario tradition of getting a cake from peach was just "Eh, whatevs". Basically, Galaxy 1 is just a better game all around.
SMG2 was better than the first imho. It was so much more engaging, had better music in general, flowed better...I love both but SMG2 had a lot more to offer for me.
And yes Professor Layton games all have amazing endings...you're heartless if you play a professor layton game without crying
Best: Stuck on which Zelda game has the best one. I think Twilight Princess hasn't been mentioned. I like the animations/lack of any specific plot details for some reason.
Worst: Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life. You get old and die before the 100 year old guys in the game. :'( I didn't do anything wrong but make a successful farm and this is what happens?
Also my son became a rancher in that game. Scientist or gtfo -.-
I just beat Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. That ending sucked, but I think the first's was worse.
I haven't beaten it yet but I think i know wuts gonna happen. Cuz i saw it on youtube.
I finished Lufia: Return of the Legend yesterday, and the ending was really touching, kinda long, but touching.
Definitely one of my favorite RPG's I've played (I like these ones, FFII is also up there from the "birdview-RPG" category)
Anyone else knows of any nice RPG's for the NES/GB/GBC that isn't Final Fantasy? (I think I've cleaned them out already)

Do you use an emulator or the actual thing?

Tales of Symphonia, Tales of etc.

Meboy and NEScube phone emulators, I didn't grew up with Nintendo. I've been hoping to buy my neighbor's NES
Quote from: Jub3r7 on April 23, 2012, 03:34:14 PMTales of Symphonia, Tales of etc.
as far as I know, none of them are for the NES/GBC ^^
-Ever since the ending to Wind Waker I've never found a conclusion so touching and so comepletely satisfying/fitting in all my life. Wind Waker was pure gaming art IMO
-I treasure every second of both Pikmin games so I must give those a mention... Can't wait for this E3
-The first inFAMOUS had a very surprising plot twist and it wasn't just one of those cheap WTF moments the story tellers through out of nowhere. The ending fit perfectly with everything you did in the game.
-an unsatisfying ending would be Uncharted 2... The story was bad to begin with and then it just dropped in quality as it got closer to the credits.

I would recommend Mother 1/EarthBound Zero for it then.
Just finished Radiant Historia, the ending was great.

Already finished it, great game ;D
Now I got a "smart"-phone anyhow, so I can play some other generations now. I still love my old phone better, buttons > touchscreen
BUMP
...
Well considering that this topic was bumped I might as well list my favourites.
Best: Final Fantasy VI: All of the characters in this game are pretty memorable, and they use their different talents to be able to get out of Kefka's Tower, also, the Ending theme is pretty awesome. Easily better than the "great" Final Fantasy VII.
Worst: Call of Duty, Black Ops: I don't know how this got best video game ending. IT SUCKS. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-13-call-of-duty-black-ops-has-best-game-ending-ever-says-guinness-world-records)
I think PMD is emotional because of the repetition of the gameplay and how long it takes to go through the story--nothing monumental really happens, but you feel like you are the main character after enduring hours upon hours of dungeon crawling, and seeing your best friend cope with your death is just too much, especially with the flashbacks that are actually incredibly realistic depictions of everyday events with your friends.

The final final ending of Virtue's Last Reward.

I'm pretty sure the consciousness inhabiting Kyle's body is supposed to be you (the player) but I'm not totally certain. This game is such a mindfuck.

I downloaded the demo...and already..it was creeping me out XD
I thought it was a lot less scary than 999 XDD

oh god the axe ending
you know Clover is in the second one too right? I was fully expecting "Axe Redux" or something.
Quote from: SlowPokemon on February 09, 2013, 09:20:00 PMoh god the axe ending
I was reading on what the axe ending was and cheery, happy music was on.
I was disturbed.
I think the knife ending is probably the most jarring, just because it's so out of nowhere.
But god especially after the endings in VLR, the endings in 999 seem really abrupt and inconclusive. With VLR, there are 24 endings total, 13 of which are crappy "game over" endings like the Knife. However 9 are "true" endings based on characters, and those are at least conclusive to some degree most of the time. And then there are the two extra endings that are pretty bizarre and don't really fall into either category.
These endings just make me feel tempted to play! >< But at the same time...I don't wanna get creep out! TT^TT
It didn't scare me personally :/
Quote from: Shadoninja on February 09, 2013, 09:16:25 PMNothing is more scary than the axe ending O_O

Twas like: "Junpei! Do not take her hand! You hear me!? DO NOT TAKE HER H-"
You dumb bastard.
SPOILERS SIR
My favorite ending is SSBB Subspace Emmisary. (SSBB SSE)
But the ending I hate most is ghostbusters for the NES. If anyone played this game and beat it, then they will know what I mean.
Dat voice acting.
"Ghoasht Bashters!"
Another annoying sound. (Because i know Blue loves these old video game voices and sound effecs)
