:D :D :D :D :D
You're my new best friend.

That said, let me introduce myself as the current leading Pokémon Mystery Dungeon arranger around here 8) I'm SOO happy to see someone else wanting to arrange music from this game's wonderful soundtrack.

On the arrangements themselves, I found them superb! I was especially impressed by the fact, despite this being your first post, you had already familiarized yourself with NSM's sheet formatting rules. Kudos ;)
Of your two arrangements, my favorite was definitely Sentry Duty. Dead, straight-on, accurate. I think with a little creativity and some left-hand jump training one could easily make it a solo arrangement likewise. On the matter of The Time Gears, I found the L.H. chords... questionable. I listened to the original just to make sure and I'm pretty sure something is amiss, perhaps because of a wrong note or lack of the bass. Perhaps you could consider arpegiatting the bass whole note into the L.H. chord at the beginning of the measure?

Oh, and welcome to the forums  ;D

EDIT: Oh, and btw, I'm more than willing to rewrite your PMD arrangements in Finale ;)

Keeping to my word and as a gesture of courtesy, I re-wrote and revised your "The Time Gears" arrangement in Finale. As I had suspected in my previous comment, there were several wrong notes. You nailed the melody and structure, but the L.H. chords and 16th note ostinato had many wrong notes, so I re-transcribed those for you. Also, I noticed you're using the unofficial fan-names for the tracks -- if you didn't know already, there's a "Sky Jukebox" in Explorers of Sky, essentially a soundtest feature, meaning that there are official names for these tracks as of 2009. The official name for this song is "Time Gear Remix", so I re-named your arrangement to such. I realize it's your arrangement, but if you keep it as the unofficial name "The Time Gears", it may get confused with the song "Time Gear" / "Fogbound Lake".

Alright Dusk, I finished making a Finale version of your PMD2 "Sentry Duty" arrangement ;) I didn't do it for your duet of the song, since re-writing your arrangements in Finale takes quite a while, and to be honest, I don't think this song needs a duet since you already managed to incorporate most of the parts into your solo arrangement.

Quote from: Dusk on April 27, 2012, 07:44:30 AMI use Audacity to slow down the pieces. Thus I also hears the fast notes in the melody better.

I've done that a few times myself also! I did it while arranging the "Final Battle vs. Rayquaza" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 1: Blue/Red Rescue Team, since the bass and melody in the middle of the song had some crazy rhythms.

Quote from: Dusk on April 27, 2012, 07:44:30 AMI know, but the quality of my Mp3-Datein does not reach to hear precisely. There do not help Audacity also any more.

You should find a higher-quality version of the song then. I just look up the song I want to arrange on Youtube and listen to that.

My pleasure  ;D  The custom beaming I used to replicate your arrangement is only possible with charged versions of Finale. Luckily for me, I happen to be using full Finale 2011.

The reason why the soundtracks you have does not agree with my list is because my list follows the order of the tracks as seen in the Sky Jukebox. I don't have a download link, but you can use a Youtube-to-mp3 converter on a video of the song on Youtube.

P.S. I see you're arranging Steam Cave and Upper Steam Cave. Good luck! Those two songs are among my favorite songs from the game.

Alright! I re-wrote the PMD2 Epilogue Theme for you ;)  I suggest you look through it yourself though, since I made some very significant changes to the arrangement. I added a some more notes to the mid-section from the original song, and I changed the beginning since you had notes in there that weren't in the original song. It's your arrangement though, so if you don't like what I did, I can change it back. I just made it so it was more like the original song.

Sorry Dusk, I haven't gotten very far in re-writing your Steam Cave arrangement in Finale. I've been doing a lot of different things lately. Perhaps you could work on "Upper Steam Cave" in the meantime, since it still has 0% completion  ;)
Title: Re: Dusk's Arrangements
Post by: Dusk on May 06, 2012, 12:01:07 AM
I will arrange Upper Steam Cave if you have re-written Steam Cave because the only difference to Steam Cave is the bass and a tact in the melody. Even if this lasts even longer.   ;D

I work at the moment on Cave and Side Path.

I've about 70 percent done with Steam Cave. The reason why it's taking so long is because there are lot of things I've been fixing (notes, chords, reducing visual clutter). Will be done soon ;)

Alright, Steam Cave is finally now all done for you! I moved alot of the parts around into different octaves to avoid clutter, but I kept most of your original chords. Also, excellent job with measures 15-18, even I was struggling to hear the notes inside those chords.

Between "Steam Cave" and "Upper Steam Cave" are just little differences.
I do not want to write your edits in my PriMus file. So here the differences:

- transposed down to D Minor
- the metronome time is 86
- the bass:

I'll start converting LoZ: Skyward Sword "Staff Roll" for you ;)  Fantastic arrangement so far, I must say.

By the way, I have not yet finished making an arrangement of PMD2 "Upper Steam Cave" because of various things I must change from Steam Cave regarding playability in order to add the new bassline. Just wait a little while longer :)

I've printed it out and 'played' it... Although terribly (since I am far from a really good piano player). Admittedly, I wish that it was an easier version to play for someone who has a lesser skill level, such as myself. It is really well done though. :)

^What Ganondorf said.  Dusk, I'm not familiar enough with Pokemon to appreciate your Mystery Dungeon arrangements, but having thoroughly played Skyward Sword, I am really impressed that you were able to take on such a huge and expansive piece.  I almost got a tear in my eye at the end.

Very nice! With your permission, I would like to see if I could make a solo arrangement based on your duet (credits would be either "Transcribed by Dusk; Arranged by Bespinben" or "Arranged by Bespinben and Dusk". It's a cute, intimate little song, so I think it would suit the song itself more if arranged for 1 piano.

And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about "Staff Roll". I just haven't been able to work on it very much since I'm in a contest against Shadoninja to see who can make 1 arrangement a day for the longer time.

Absolutely fantastic. For song with SOOO many parts, you did a great job incorporating the most important ones. I also like how you used ossia measures to write out the trills, very inventive.
There is one problem though; you cut out the second half of the song! There isn't a repeat at the end as you wrote in. Go listen to the song again, it's very different after the "repeat".

*looks at Dusk's to-do list*

Very awesome. I will re-write all 3 of your new PMD2 arrangements. However, I don't remember ever volunteering to rewrite Route 113. Please fix that.

Alright, as much as I liked your Wigglytuff's Guild arrangement, I must say, compared to the original, it simply felt a little empty at times. I understand that there are limits to what only 2 hands can play, but I think, with your permission, I would like to see if I could re-arrange some of your arrangement as I write it into Finale.

Anyway my feedback:

Measures 13 and 17, the right hand chord doesn't change, only the left hand does. Measures 37 and 38, consider making those sixteenth note triplets. Same thing in 42 and 43. In measure 48, however, those are definitely straight 16ths, thats the same in 54. Measure 47 that rhythm should really be dotted 8th 16th if you listen to the soundtrack that's what it is. In the left hand of the second piano, I'm not really hearing the low Ds, in my opinion they should be eighth rests.
Thats all.

I can understand all things without measure 48 and 54, those are definitely 8ths (like the chords in the left hand in the second piano).

Measure 47, what you have is right, so my bad. there is a part on the sound track at measure 47 that you don't have, its played on a string instrument and it has a rhythm like dotted 8th, 16th, dotted 8th, 16th, etc.
QuoteThe other parts are too loud. In measures 34 till 41 and 46, I hear the low Ds.
I should have said towards the end because the Ds fade out around measure 60.
Good job otherwise!

Though I think it would've been better to write it in 12/8, but who cares.
Also, at measure#20 you lost me - I think you might've skipped some melody.
Measure#60-66: I know you are using PriMus, so I'm not sure if you can use layers, but.. yeah, you should use layers :)
Some of the chords were wrong - If I get the time, I'll come back to you and tell you which are wrong and what they should be how to fix them. :)

I believe its possible but its a little bit laborious. And if I think about playing with your version on piano.. :o
Using more layers makes it confusing.

The next thing are the cords:

In almost all parts, the melody is so loud that I not anymore hear the chords the strings are playing.
With a lot of concentration, I hear one... no more than two notes, but this are not the tones, I need, to know that this are four-digit or five-digit cords. (don't know whether this is the right word for chords like Em7 or Cmaj7)
An other thing is: If I arrange a song, I would cut out layers, witch aren't for someone, who plays the game, where the music is from, audible

Awesome job. I think I see a way to make a solo arrangement out of this... (if you don't mind)

EDIT: Since I'm going to be gone in 5 days, I figure it's fine if you arranged the PMD2 Blizzard Island Rescue Team Medley. Two years would be a long time hold a song on reserve for someone.

I don't see a way to make a solo arrangement of this, cause you need two hand for the two melodies at the beginning. And than the high quarter notes witch are in the other piano. ??? If you have enough time in this 5 days, you can do this.

PS: Will you arrange the time you are away from the nsm forum?

Sorry, can't. Mission rules. In fact, I think the only time one is allowed to use the internet is on one day of the week, and only for emailing family. I think the reasoning to is keep missionaries from being distracted by "worldly affairs".

(If I'm lucky, I may be able to briefly sneak onto NSM forums to say Hi once every few months. Aren't I such a bad boy? :P)

Quote from: SocialFox on October 17, 2012, 11:12:33 PMCan you still make arrangements?
No, and for several reasons: (Sorry for spamming your thread Dusk)

If such an activity were permissible, there simply wouldn't be any time at all to do so. The missionary daily schedule has me busy all day from the moment I rise from bed:
(https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1111.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh475%2FBespinben%2FSchedule.jpg&hash=12049025d908988f507410743ab6f5aa373a1b14)

An exception to this schedule is one day of the week (Monday in most missions), called "P-day" (preparation day), where one would do things like pay bills, do laundry, buy groceries, write letters to family, etc... The "P-Day" period lasts from 10 AM to 6 PM on the given day. Following 6 PM, one would resume normal proselyting until the specified time when one is required to return to the apartment.

Thus, the only time I would theoretically be able to arrange would be during this 8-hour period on one day of the week, assuming I get all my preparations complete early. Even then though, the multiplicity of rules and standards concerning missionaries prevent performing such an activity-

1.) Arranging requires a computer. Missionaries aren't allowed to have computers (or TVs, radios, or virtually any electronic device that conveys media).
2.) Arranging requires a piano/keyboard/pitch reference. Missionaries aren't allowed to have musical instruments.
3.) Arranging requires a means of listening to the song one wishes to transcribe. Refer to the parenthesized statement in reason 1. Exception to this is for listening to church hymns or other pre-approved music via a CD player.

Just wanted to pop in here to NSM super quick while I can to say-

Dusk, your recent slew of PMD arrangements has been absolutely superb. It really, really means a lot to me to see you continuing my legacy of arranging the music the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. From a purely aesthetic standpoint (since I'm in no situation to be able to give a truly in-depth evaluation), your PMD arrangements of late have consistently been extremely well-formatted, meticulously articulated, and have effectively maintained most if not all parts from the original songs.

Keep rocking, and see ya in 18 months! (and maybe try arranging some PMD 3DS?  ;))

I think these might be the Japanese translations, but not necessarily the actual names. I don't think there was an actual soundtrack released (there probably wasn't) but certain places, such as 024 - Desolate Valley should be Desolate Canyon, and another (039 - Wailing Valley/040 - Wailing Valley (Interior)) should be the Crags of Lament.

It's not really that huge of a deal, but I think at least the places' titles should be right

Dusk, I don't think I've said this yet, so I'll say it now:
You're Post Town arrangement is absolutely impeccable. I'm not sure what I'm going to do once I get to the song in my arrangement project, because there's no way I could improve on it.
(Maybe 4-hands piano duet? That'd be fun, and original!)

Project MUS conversion - Dusk style! I figured it was time your arrangements stopped collected space dust. Hopefully I'll keep doing more:

"Heavy Rain" from Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
[MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/RSE%20-%20Heavy%20Rain.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/RSE%20-%20Heavy%20Rain.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/RSE%20-%20Heavy%20Rain.pdf)

The most notable change was that I put in 12/16 time (e.g. 12/8 but with 16ths as base). I thought your initial choice was interesting though! The accents are simply derived from syncopation though. I also added in the Fb for the pick-up measure.

More MUS conversion! This song was literally next in line on my PMD3DS arranging project, so it was only natural that I did it now, at long last:
(man you sure have a lot of "will be re-written by Bespinben" on the front page =P)

[3DS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity:

"That Is Odd...":
~brought to you by Dusk (Edited by Me)~
[MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/PMD3DS%20-%20That%20Is%20Odd.mus) [MIDI] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/PMD3DS%20-%20That%20Is%20Odd.mid) [PDF] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35209091/PMD3DS%20-%20That%20Is%20Odd.pdf)

The name of the song in the English track listing is actually "That Is Odd..." instead of "Strange" (which is the literal Japanese translation). Actually, I noticed the majority of the tracks in the OST list on your front page use these Japanese transliterations.

As for the arrangement itself, I only changed three things:
*Pizzicato chords needed an Eb, and there was no G. Also used cross staving to show they belonged to the same "voice".
*Took out the octave doubling on the melody; also there was a wrong note in m.1 for the bassoon line (you had Bb at the very end where there should be just an A)
*Inserted some dynamics

[GBA] Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald

"Crossing The Sea" (Solo)

I tried to match everything as closely as possible. Let me know if I missed anything. I do have suggestions on things to change but I think I'll get back to my homework for now...

Quote from: Brassman388 on January 25, 2015, 03:00:57 AMI would suggest rewriting the whole thing with eighths with a swing feel. That should get rid of most of the visual clutter.
This was a piece of advice on Bespinben's version of the song. but I still think it applies to this sheet. When I learned this one, it took me quite a while to get the hang of the rhythms, and after re-writing a few measures in swing I felt this looked a lot cleaner and easier to read. Other notable changes:
~Number of clef changes drastically reduced. Most of the song fits pretty comfortably in the normal bass clef, with occasional 8vbs. (See measures 4-6, for example.)
~Same with ledger lines. (See measure 46-48, for example.)
~Redistribution of the work between the two hands. In particular, I found swapping the LH and RH parts in half of measure 7 more intuitive (see my performance (https://youtu.be/DqPvoqkdzG4) for demonstration). Measure 51 is easier if the RH takes some of the work, as notated in the sheet. And for measure 63-64 I made it clear which notes to toss to the LH.

But of course, this is still your sheet; all the notes are there and it should sound the same as your MIDI, save for some articulation. If you disagree with any of this, just let me know!

Also, I'm not done yet. I still have to rework some smaller things like measure distribution and aesthetics, aligning swung eighths with triplets, keysig changes, articulations, and a couple of spots where I'd suggest changing the actual notes (measure 36, mostly) but yeah, it's mostly there :P

AND the MusicXML export + import to Finale works, even though with most of the dynamics and text being lost, minor changes in the notes and some error messages in Finale, but it works!!  ;D

So Green in the list means that you have already arranged the piece.  Where could I find them? Because some of the green songs are not anywhere on NSM.

"It's been arranged" i.e. by someone not necessarily Dusk.

Most of the ones not on this thread or on the main site have been done by Bespinben (whose sheets you probably can't access because of broken sheet links, but most of those are on YouTube). That covers most of them; the remaining maybe one or two I'm seeing might have gotten lost or removed by the arranger.

I know, Daj already did an arrangement of it, but since I had started working on this piece some time ago (I just checked, it was almost 7 years ago...) and what I already had looked very different to Daj's I gave it a try. I've kept it as simple as possible so that I can play it myself. Here it is:

"Abyssal Ruins" from Pokémon Black & White
