Out of the two of them, I would go with Luke. Professor Layton is already dignified, and constantly has to correct Luke.

Yeah, I haven't. Well, I have, but Curious Village is the only one I own. I've never finished any others, and I'm in the middle of Diabolical Box. But I'm getting them all (except for Miracle Mask) sometime in the next few weeks.

I agree. After I finished Mother 3, I played it again. At the beginning I saw this little crybaby named Lucas and I thought to myself, this is wrong, isn't Lucas heroic?

Layton is given a ton of development in Unwound Future and Miracle Mask, and also a fair bit in Last Specter.

Also Sigma from Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.
