Title: The "Fixing the Sheets" Initiative 2.0 - Current Target: Pokémon R/B *Done!*
Post by: JDMEK5 on July 25, 2013, 05:44:01 PM
What is the "Fixing the Sheets" Initiative?
The "Fixing the Sheets" Project was an organized effort to bring each and every sheet of music on Ninsheetmusic up to the current standard. Most of the target sheets were submitted before any quality standard was required. As a result, some of those sheets are abhorring.

This is the reincarnation of the original "Fixing the Sheets" Project. Everything is basically the same here except the roles have been ditched, and so has the wiki.

If you want to help out, please go right ahead. Having listed roles for helping here would be like getting a title for submitting a sheet to the main site. It's unnecessary so we're dropping it.

In no way does this project forbid replacement submissions from other games/franchises. This is simply a united, organized effort to deal with the substandard sheets one game at a time.

What you need to know:

-If you begin work on a sheet, post here letting me know so I can edit the target post (the next one) with the updated information. This keeps multiple people from working on the same song at the same time.
-Can't arrange? No problem; critique other sheets that either have not been looked at yet, or have just been revised.
-There is no limit to how many sheets one may work on simultaneously but I would recommend no more than 3 and strongly dissuade any more than 5.
-If you fix a sheet, your name will appear on the song list (on the Target Post) as the sheet modifier; however your name will not be listed as the arranger on the main site. Nor can you change the original arranger's name to your own on the sheet itself. This may only be done if the sheet was so dramatically changed that it counts as a replacement.
Altering the original arranger's name on a sheet without just cause is considered plagiarism and is strictly prohibited.
For more information on replacements, refer here (http://forum.ninsheetm.us/index.php?topic=6238.0).

Who to contact for questions, comments, and/or concerns regarding this whole endeavor:
Either Yours Truly (http://forum.ninsheetm.us/index.php?action=profile;u=1217), or Olimar12345 (http://forum.ninsheetm.us/index.php?action=profile).

This is the "Target Post". This basically will tell us which game is our primary focus right now, and which songs have been done and which haven't.

Our current target is:

Pokémon Red/Blue Version (http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheetmusic.php?series=Pokemon)

Progress: 100%

All formatting information will be provided below. Please use the information there word for word to avoid any differences between sheets. (Feel free to copy/paste if you'd like)
Note: When claiming a sheet, please list all of the sheets that you are claiming in the thread so that we may prevent confusion. Please be as clear as possible.
Second Note: If a song is on the site under an incorrect title, find the title that matches the OST*. This information should be given in the spoiler assigned to that song.
Third Note: Before sending a song in, please make sure the notes are accurate. No sheet will gain approval unless it is close to completely accurate. (if not completely)
Fourth Note: The "Specifics" given for each sheet are only the things I spot after about 15 seconds of looking at the sheet and therefore may not necessarily be all of the issues. It's part of your job to hunt for more.

Status Color Code:
Red: This sheet has not yet been fixed. A diagnose of problems will be provided in a spoiler.
Yellow: This sheet is currently being fixed.
Brown: This sheet has been reworked but still hasn't met current standards. Work on this sheet has been dropped by the original modifier. Treatment is identical to red. This sheet is up for grabs.
Blue: This sheet has been fixed and has gained approval from myself and all of you (as far as you have spoken). However this sheet still lacks approval from Olimar12345 or TheDekuTrombonist. Such approval is pending. (Hang tight! ;))
Green: This sheet has been fixed and has gained approval from a sufficient number of moderators and thereby will be uploaded.
Black: This song will be gone by the time we're done. Don't bother trying to save it.

Formatting information:
Please use the information here as precisely as possible.
How to get the accented 'é' into the sheet:
The accented 'é' is typed on Windows PCs by holding 'Alt' and pressing 0, 2, 3, 3 on the number pad in that order. The 'Alt' key may only be released after the number combination is complete. Sometimes a space afterwards is needed to make the character appear.
If you are not using a Windows PC, copy/paste the character into the sheet.
[close]
How to get the copyright symbol (©) into the sheet:
The copyright symbol (©) is typed on Windows PCs by holding 'Alt' and pressing 0, 1, 6, 9 on the number pad in that order. The 'Alt' key may only be released after the number combination is complete. Sometimes a space afterwards is needed to make the character appear.
If you are not using a Windows PC, copy/paste the character into the sheet.

-Song Title: Titles are taken from the FireRed/LeafGreen OST. The OST can be found here (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/pokemon-firered-pokemon-leafgreen/id771135133).
-Game Name: Pokémon Red/Blue Version (If a song is exclusively from Pokémon Yellow Version, write that in as was just shown here. Further details on this situation are given below.)

Anyways, I'm down for helping out with this project. Later tonight I'll look over the sheets on the site and try to fix some.

You can definitely count me in.

BTW, the easiest way to make the © symbol is to press CTRL + ALT + C. The easiest way to make an é is to change your keyboard to international (Control panel --> Region and Language --> Keyboards and Languages.)

Tell me if I should change "Route" to "Road" in the title.

Beautiful job Echo! Yes, "Route" should become "Road".
The only other thing is that triplet. It should be two 32nds with a 16th.
But don't worry about either of those things cause I already fixed them! This gets a big stamp of approval from me.

Thanks for your contribution Echo!

The © method isn't working for me, and the é would be quicker the way I have it laid out there. It doesn't involve leaving the keyboard to find the mouse.

It doesn't?

Once you set the keyboard to international, you type ' + e to makes it.

What a wonderfully organised list! Sounds like a much better plan to work on each game separately. (Omg, this soundtrack brings back memories...)

If you don't mind, I would love to help out. :)
Sorry about not letting you know if I'm planning on working on any of the sheets, I seriously thought it would only take me a few minutes to fix each one of these. The instructions are so clear and most sheets already look (almost) fabulous, even a monkey like me could do it.

Edit: Don's list is much better! I crossed off the ones that he has done. ;)

Too bad. I do mind. .... lol jk XD. (Laughed at my own joke)

I'm going to go through your list soon. Don't have enough time now, but I hope to be done by the end of the day.

Sorry for not mentioning it, but for a song to be accepted all the way, it has to be accurate to the original if it wasn't before.
The list of "specifics" isn't necessarily everything that's wrong with the sheet; it's just what I saw after looking at it for 10 seconds.

However that doesn't mean your contributions are going to waste. Olimar and I should be able to fix most accuracy problems that might still be in the sheet. And some were perfectly accurate to begin with then anyways.

The target post will updated once I get through them all.

Thanks for your help Onionleaf!

EDIT: I'm going down the list and all of them are getting in with minor alterations for the most part, except for Route 24. Sorry for not stating it sooner but I just realized how horribly inaccurate that sheet is. To be honest, I think it's due for a replacement altogether. Of course, that's not your fault though.

Thanks for telling me. I'll look into that.

"S.S. Anne" is the correct title. The OST just has "St. Anne" because that's what the ship's called in the Japanese games.

"Intro 1" and "Intro 2" are not separate pieces. They should be together, under the name "Opening" or "~Opening~"

Post by: JDMEK5 on July 30, 2013, 09:07:11 AM
^I mentioned that in the "Specs" for both. I also have that noted in my special chart for the updater once this is all done. ;)

In case you haven't noticed, the songs listed on the OP are under the names they have on site. Therefore, I had to have Intro 1 and Intro 2 separate.

Haven't listened to it but you'll want to put quotation marks around the title of the piece and shrink the size of the subtitle (game's name) to 12.

One thing that sticks out is that you'll want to make the 3rd beat evident, since it's in 4/4.

Ex/ measure 2 in the RH should be a half note tied to an eighth note, instead of a dotted half note. On measure 6, it should be an eighth note tied to a half note. What you did on 11, on the other hand, is totally correct.
Title: Re: The "Fixing the Sheets" Initiative 2.0 - Current Target: Pokémon R/B/Y
Post by: FierceDeity on August 02, 2013, 12:49:12 AM
Hm, really? I'd always been taught that a tied note within a measure is only required when the next attacked note (EDIT: or the first note being tied) isn't on the beat, like in measure 11. I see dotted half notes in 4/4 all the time. In fact, that's how Jamey Aebersold and Robert King (I just picked two 4/4 pieces I had nearby) do it. Hell, even Holst puts quarter notes on the "and" of a beat. Maybe what you're talking about is just a piano thing, but then again, even the beginner's piano instruction booklet that came with my new keyboard has dotted half notes in 4/4.
Also, if I were to tie it over the center of the bar, wouldn't I only tie it to an eighth note if I wanted to release it right on beat 3? There's no notable space between the notes in the original song, so I didn't really see a need to do that.
Sorry if I seem overly defensive about this, haha, I'm just a little hesitant to change the way that I've been writing for years. I will go ahead and change the issues with the title that you pointed out, though :P

I've been doing this recently with some Zelda stuff. If this gets updated faster, I might as well.

"~Opening~" (Replaces "Intro 1" and "Intro 2")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/kqu39rr) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/oqz3lrn) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/ktor63y)
Intro 1: Fixed a couple more things here too that weren't accurate. Extra measures/wrong notes. Also added articulations. I'm not changing the Db's because it's pretty horrible to read that.

"Battle (VS Gym Leader)" (Replaces "Gym Leader Battle")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/pbapcha) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/lat7m4h) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/qbjum3v)

"Oak's Laboratory" (Replaces "Oak's Lab")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/lbt5zdd) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/onx5rwv) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/pzf6284)
I ended up completely redoing the left hand. So there's that.

"S.S. Anne" (Replaces "S.S. Anne")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/mncrso6) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/ldlzmjs) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/m8xajpq)

(Fixed by Bespinben, his links are later in the thread)

"Silph Co." (Replaces "Silph Co.")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/p2k7zy5) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/mwwclmy) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/nlntoz4)
Somebody should probably check the accidentals here. They're all over the place.

"Theme of Pallet Town" (Replaces "Pallet Town")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/klsfj52) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/lq7fhtr) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/npjemv8)

"Victory Road" (Replaces "Indigo Plateau")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/nfu8cca) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/lxjokfb) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/owu4rts)
This one took a little more fixing than what's listed. I'm inclined to double the speed and note lengths mostly because the tempo I was getting was a pretty even 72.5 bpm from the OST, which happens to double nicely to 145 bpm. There was an extraneous measure. The repeat is correct. Articulations were kinda contradictory, and this probably achieves a more accurate sound anyway. I felt like the split articulations in 13-16 were necessary. Notes in what are now measures 4 and 6 and similar were incorrect. The rest sounds fine to me, but might not be completely right.

"Viridian Forest" (Replaces "Viridian Forest")
[MUS] (http://tinyurl.com/oytjf9d) [MIDI] (http://tinyurl.com/kkev2k3) [PDF] (http://tinyurl.com/qgtg2lx)

^ It's officially "Caves of Mt. Moon" in the English FireRed/LeafGreen OST. The Japanese title for the song in the RBY OST is the same as the track in the FR/LG one, so I'd consider that the most official title for it.

Awesome. Thanks. I don't have a whole lot of time now, but I looked through a few and updated the list. I still have a few to go but one that still needs a little improvement is "~Opening~" (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81425442/Finished/~Replacements/Pokemon%20Red%20%26%20Blue/~Opening~/~Opening~.mus). Here's the scoop:

-Bass in measures 12-27 is wrong. Mostly a matter of wrong timing.
-Any harmony for the lower voice in measures 12-27 (right hand)?
-There's extra harmony in the right hand in measures 25-30.
-Lower fills in measures 28-31 should be written in the lower voice of the treble clef, not the upper voice of the bass.

Also added a progress quote at the top of the target post for encouragement purposes. ;)

-Copied the correct one over from the one QWERTYkid did
-I added a little more, but the entire voice is there and more. Not sure what else you want.
-That's definitely there...
-They already are. I moved the notes that weren't up there, but putting the entire thing in that octave is too big of a stretch. It works in the left hand just fine, but if you don't like it there, okay.

Yeah, most of these songs don't really need major technical fixes anyway.

Before you start from scratch, check the list I made. Not everything is perfect, but they're improved, and JDMEK hasn't updated the list for all of them.

Now that school has ended I'm now going to devote much time once again into this poor neglected project. (Sorry guys!)
Now I just have to pick up where I left off.. Maybe a good start would be to locate the files that I backed up on my local memory before the NSM dropbox folder went kapeesh. If anyone sees that I'm forgetting something, please let me know.

All right, guys. I didn't really see that grounding coming but now that I'm back I can get to work on this stuff. I'll go fix up Jigglewigglepuffy's Song and Pokemon Center right now, is that fine?
Yes please: if you're still up for it, we'd much appreciate the help! Although since it's been so long I'll request maybe a confirmation that you're still gonna take them before I put your name down having claimed them.

ONE MORE IMPORTANT NOTE I FORGOT TO MENTION:
Most of you probably are already aware but I'm going to take this second to remind everyone that we now have a new website URL to use. I've updated it on the OP and I'll take care of updating that on all finished sheets we have so far already. Just keep that in mind for future fixes.

I'm going to be slowly feeding my fixed sheets through my submissions. Would you like an update when/if they get accepted?

Also, I think the links are broken on the list I put up last time. I'll fix that later.

Woah today was the last day of classes for Uni. today too! Though, I need to catch up after my 2 year hiatus, so classes during spring and summer are a must. Hasn't seemed to hinder my NSM-ing.... yet.

Yes please. I can't recall the list you speak of (embarrassingly enough) but maybe it's not worth my time to look for it if the links are broken anyways. Sorry for the huge break. Found it. I'll be adding those as soon as you put them back up.

Ok so I've taken an inventory check to make sure I still have all the sheets that were fixed on the OP (which I've just updated to include your list, Zunawe) and they've all been accounted for, save two. Those would be my Celadon City, and Echo's Route 1. Sad thing is that they had both attained green status but since I did Celadon City, it won't be hard for me to redo it. I could do Echo's over again as well but before I give up his work, I'm gonna ask if maybe anyone still has a copy of these somewhere. If not then I'm not sure what other choice I have than to return it to it's old, unfinished status..
FOUND THEM!!

EDIT: Status update: I've now got all my ducks in a row again and the only thing left to do to get the completion percentile to 100 is to finish up the others, and get them looked at by mods. So let's pick up where we left off, everybody! Gotta fix 'em all!

(Also, btw. Thanks for picking this back up! I love having good sheets for my favorite songs. I look forward to hopefully playing them on my YouTube channel.)

Here you go though this folder doesn't include the ones Zunawe has in his 'list'.

Ok thanks! I'll check them out tonight!

Never mind tonight, I looked through them now and realized that Pallet is still missing a whole 'nother voice. For that reason what I'm thinking is I'll delete this one and just arrange it myself from scratch and see what I get. I'll do a replacement altogether.

Hey, thanks! I'm having a lot of fun looking over them! :D

I've noticed though, for "Cinnabar Island" there's a lot more to be done.
- Measures 13-15 should be removed.
- The sheet should reflect the sudden pauses, like the one in measure 2.
- The left hand doesn't match what the song sounds like - I also hear a lot of 16th notes not reflected in the sheet.
- There are notes missing in measure 8 in the right hand.

Nope! These are tracks from the original Pokémon Red/Blue games for the Game Boy Color, but Pokémon Diamond/Pearl were the fourth-generation games released for the DS back in 2006. Very different music! :)

Mlf, you have got to play pokemon. I see the world of gaming as a circular spectrum. Right in the middle circle is Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon. In the next ring out there's Kirby, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and other such. In the outer circle from that is F-Zero, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Banjo-Kazooie, Assassin's Creed, etc. But I feel Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon are the 3 series necessary for a basic gaming experience.

You're exactly right!
I've played like every Mario game and I'm working into Zelda.....haven't gotten to Pokemon yet though. I'm not really into the shooters (Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Grand Theft Auto etc.).
I don't have enough friends for Animal Crossing, Pikmin I haven't gotten around to yet, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie I love and mastered, and I don't really like Donkey Kong and Star Fox.

I got more coming!

Take a look at the Game Corner Theme. Measures 19, 20, 23, 24, and 26 should be written with two layers since there are multiple voices, I think.
Also it seems weird to me that the first page alternates between measures with one and measures with two layers. Should measures 5, 9, and 13 be written with two layers also?

You're sorta right I think. In measures 19, 20, 23, 24, and 26 you are for sure. It should be notated differently with sustained notes in each voice. But in 5, 9, and 13 I think either way would be acceptable. Your suggestion does make sense but I don't think we necessarily have to change it. It's debatable.

But you might as well just go as soon as you're ready especially cuz it'll really excite the general populous more to see two projects back-to-back as opposed to one big one.

Originally that's what I imagined but heck, if you want to put the other(s) on hold until we finish this one and release them all at once, that's cool too. Although it may be better marketing to let them out individually. In little poops.

Yeah. I'd say individually.
The banjo one is taking so long to go through cause the songs are sooooo long. But when we get around to the Paper Mario one, it should speed up drastically. Almost all those songs are pretty short. :)

Team Rocket Hideout:
- End of first measure missing two notes in the LH. I think they're the same as the ones in measure 36.
- Delete that quarter note in measure 23. Why does that measure have different accidentals than the ones around it?
- End of measure 24 missing another 16th note.
- Check note durations for measures 25-32 - I'm not sure about the current choice of dotted quarters vs. quarter + eighth rests.
- Measure 13, RH should be a Eb rather than D.
- Measures 21-24 should probably be transposed down an octave or something. I don't think they need to be octaves, either.
- Needs dynamics. Especially the first measure.

Jigglypuff's Song:
Quote from: JDMEK5 on July 25, 2013, 05:59:13 PM-Measures 2-5, right hand is the whole song. All else, including the left hand, as far as I know, is extra and therefore should be removed.
-Someone should have another good look at the timing there.
- I think the last two notes in current measure 4 are the same duration.
- Fix your MUS link.

Latios212 and I discovered that many of the "ready to go" sheets were still far from ready. Celadon City was one of these, the countermelody having been incorrectly transcribed and sometimes entirely missing. Also added articulation and dynamics.

[GB] Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow/Green:

"Celadon City":

It might be wise to re-evaluate the work already done so far, considering this song prior to being edited today was one of the "green" status ones.

Absolutely. Even now we've kinda just been waiting for a free mod who's not busy with the Banjo-Kazooie one. But I completely agree.
Zunawe's already submitted his Surf arrangement I believe so aside from possibly the URL I would imagine that one's good to go, and Echo's was redone but yeah we can definitely have another look at it.

And I hate to be this picky but I'm going to be this picky and say that under game name, we're just putting Red/Blue. Just for the sake of uniformity throughout the whole thing.

Yes I did in fact.

I also did Jigglypuff's Song but I ran into a bit of an issue. The actual tune is vastly different from what the original sounds like.

Here's dahans' arrangement (https://www.dropbox.com/s/x2hjks9mv35ag5g/Pokemon%20RedBlue%20-%20Jigglypuff%27s%20Song.pdf?dl=0)
Here's the original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T516lq251Wk)

I simplified it down to match the original on a single staff, leaving dahans' name on it but is that what we should do in this situation? Ideas?

The next entry in RBY overhaul, brought to you by LatiosBespinbenFan! By merging the countermelody into the RH as a 2nd layer, we were able to add in the missing 3rd voice for measures 1-12, and then for m. 13+ the LH was given the two voices to play while the RH occupies itself with the more industrious melody on the B section.

Yeah I used a slightly debatable point system for the percentile involving hidden values for different stati. (Is that the word?..)

Basically it's rigged to hit 100% when they're all accepted cuz as Bespinben said, we should have a double check over them to make sure.

Yes, indeed! Hmm I was thinking, it'd be nice if you made all the current arrangements easily accessible in one single place, like the OP, or the second post. To save time and make things smoother :J

Edit: Oops, not quite, what's that quarter rest doing in m. 2? I'd also say to show all rests in the LF on m. 2 because that is a third voice that hops in.

I like the idea of accessible sheets. Give me a bit to get that up.

Got rid of that quarter rest but I disagree with showing all. I usually leave it out if it's clear enough. But I'll show them if everyone wants. Once I get the folder up you all can see what I did exactly.

Yes in most cases that's the best option, but given the "contrapuntistic" nature of this song, all voices should be notated as if they were on their own.

This is missing some things, like the fixed versions of Cinnabar Island, Game Corner, and Team Rocket Hideout. It's also missing the fixed Celadon City and some of Zunawe's and Tobbeh's sheets.

I've created a dropbox folder (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/usehccuug4b0al5/AABqlMaG2RPqxI-0TTds6Ykia?dl=0) that accumulates everything we have so far, I believe, except these few:

Waiting for JDMEK5:
- Game Corner (fixed version)
- Cinnabar Island (fixed version)
- Team Rocked Hideout (fixed version)

Waiting for Don:
- Pokémon Center (fixed version)

Also not in folder:
- Mt. Moon (because it's submitted to site)
- Surf (because it's on site)

Also these sheets in particular need some more work:
- Opening
- Pallet Town
- Silph Co.

EDIT: And since I seemed to have misplaced some files, looks like I'll have some work to do from scratch. Oh well.

But I found and added the Rocket Game Corner to the folder

EDIT AGAIN: Uploaded my replacement for Cinnabar Island. It's in the folder.

ANOTHER EDIT: Made a few modifications to "Printer Error" to make it follow the others.

IDK HOW I MANAGED TO MISS THIS FOR 10+ YEARS BUT MY MIND IS BLOWN
(Am I the only one noticing this for the first time? Okay)

Also a question for everyone about Team Rocket Hideout: how should we distribute the voices? JDMEK5 added a missing voice but the song becomes a lot more difficult with it. The bottom two layers repeat but may be a bit much for the left hand alone, and possibly we could toss some notes to the right hand, idk. Thoughts?

Added Rocket Hideout to the folder. The part Latios and I had trouble with regarding voices was in the first 10 measures.

Also measure 29-32 features what I have but also the same pattern as the RH in the 4 measures prior as well. If we put them together, it sounds like a MIDI dump with lots of minor seconds and crap. Is it worth it for the sake of accuracy or what do you guys think we should do?

I'm not really in on this project per se, but my personal stance is this.
Leave it out. People come here for the song they remember, and that's probably not what they remember (even though it's in there, as are a bunch of other effects). Many aspects of game music aren't possible to translate, as you know (drums and whatnot), and I'd say having all the voices would definitely be one.
It still has to be music at the end of the day. The game boy and the piano have very different musical capabilities and the music should be arranged accordingly.
With that said, I'm also no master arranger. Just my 2 cents

The brown ones are touched but still need some work. Also do you have input on the playability of the beginning of Rocket Hideout?

While we're on the subject, JDMEK5, do you think it'd be a good idea to finish arranging the rest of the OST while we're here? It might take a little longer but give NSM some more bragging rights :P I know that's not the goal of the project, but we're actually pretty close. Aside from the monster that is Pokémon Mansion which I've got in progress, there are only like 5 songs unarranged, none of which are longer than around 30 seconds.

Hey yeah absolutely I'm down with making this an arrangement project too. With ppl on board willing to hop in, how could I say otherwise? Sounds like a great idea! That being said, since you already have an idea, do you want to give us the remaining songs, Latios? I'll add them into the target post.

There were two issues, that was one of them, the other we'd like opinions on is the crazy dual 16th runs in the first 10ish measures.

Awesome, a complete OST! Here we go!

I think from the R/B OST, we're missing:
- Professor Oak (not the lab theme)
- Victory (wild Pokémon)
- Victory (trainer)
- Victory (gym leader)
- Pokémon Recovery (a 2-second track lol)
Need to dig these up from personal arrangement threads:
- All trainer encounter themes by Don
- Rival Appears by Bespinben
I have the last two, Pokéflute and Pokémon Mansion, will post them tomorrow. And while we're at it, we should probably fix the Yellow Title screen too.

Playlist for reference to see if I missed anything. (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA26855F88564F001) I'll get everything better organized tomorrow.

I'll do the recovery one, for now. I'll just complete that right now, since it's so damn short XD
EDIT: There's already another recovery theme, we could essentially copy-paste it and give the other arranger the credit for that too.
If you want a new one for it anyways, I'm still happy to do it.

I think you missed some from pokémon yellow:

- Pikachu Beach
- Tiltle Theme
- Unused Song

here's the playlist I looked at: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB0xooEkKbSbdYTCMyC36lvs8rYIyywoF

Don't know if we also should include other small themes, since we'll do "pokemon recovery", like level up, pokedex fanfare, item catch etc. And probably have them all in one arrangement.

Organized everything by OST order for now, just because alphabetical gets very iffy as we fix incorrect titles, and so we can see what are the gaps that need to be arranged.

Here's a link to the folder again. (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/usehccuug4b0al5/AABqlMaG2RPqxI-0TTds6Ykia?dl=0) Post any new ones You arrange here and I'll add them.

Tobbeh, thanks for pointing out the Yellow themes as well, I hope we'll have time to get to those. Do you want to do one? Keep in mind Title Theme and Pikachu Beach are already pretty much done, just floating around somewhere.

About Recovery, idk why but it's the only fanfare listed as its own track in the OST. We could possibly do the rest of the fanfares in the collection (there's a youtube vid for that too) but let's get the main tracks done first.

I think the recovery themes are slightly different for each game. Go ahead and base it off this OST.

Alright, will do. It'll have to take a backseat for today though, I need to finish the arrangement I promised to do (but I may well just get lazy on that one and try it as a side project, as I did with my Colosseum arrangement).

I can take pokémon yellow "Jesse & James", will start working on it. I could also take "Unused track" if we really  want to have it arranged, but since it's an unused song I let you decide first if I should do it.

Maybe add those songs in the first comment, so people can see that there are songs that people can arrange.

I'd like the priority to be on these few remaining first, but by all means go ahead if you feel like it :)

To arrange:
Quote from: Latios212 on June 23, 2015, 09:51:43 PM- Professor Oak (not the lab theme)
- Victory (wild Pokémon)
- Victory (trainer)
- Victory (gym leader)
To fix:

- Pallet Town
- Silph Co.

I will continue with "Unused Track", it is unused music but since it's so easy, I'll do it anyway.

Pallet Town (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rgfsnpooake91h8/Pallet%20Town.mus?dl=0)

There are a few mistakes, I'm sure. For example, I have no idea why the tempo mark is so big, nor do I know how to fix it. I'm also not sure about the last two measures in the middle staff. Nothing that I put there sounds right. But other than a few minor details, it's done.

I use this for reference with the FR/LG OST as backup, so I suppose "Victory! (Gym Leader Battle)" would be the most consistent.
Youtube playlists often have fan-made track names which are sometimes more recognizable, but consistency, I guess.

It lines up almost perfectly. Only discrepancies are:

- "Title Screen": FR/LG OST splits it up into "Opening Movie" and "Title Screen" while the Japanese Red/Green/Blue OST combines them into "Title Screen". It might be practical to split them up as Yellow has a different opening but same title screen theme.
- "Viridian City Theme": Japanese OST lists as Viridian, FR/L lists as Pewter. Viridian makes more sense since it's encountered first, but that just my opinion.
- "Cerulean City Theme": FR/LG lists it as Fuchsia which is weird for the same reason.
- "Road from Lavender Town - Leaving Vermilion City": FR/LG lists it as Lavender-->Fuchsia which is weird for the same reason.

Awesome! We're now at 100% arrangement! ( ^_^)o自自o(^_^ )

But wait, there's more! We're not out of the woods yet! Some of these sheets still need a decent amount of touching up. If you're still willing to pitch in for this project, these sheets in particular need some review:

"Title Screen" - Needs to be split up into "Opening Movie" and "Title Screen" as Yellow shares the same Title Screen theme. It still has many wrong notes from dahans' old sheet and note durations need to be checked as well.
"Professor Oak's Laboratory" - Third voice completely incorrect.
"Road to Cerulean City - Leaving Mt. Moon" - should be checked against Don's version.
"Road to Fuchsia City - Leaving Lavender Town" - should be checked against Don's version.
"Silph Co." - accidental checking, among other things.
"Opening (Yellow)" - This one's a little messy...

I'll take Professor Oak's Laboratory.

EDIT: Done (https://www.dropbox.com/s/3dsbuzo05q01crj/Professor%20Oak%27s%20Laboratory.mus?dl=0).

There wasn't much in the third voice. Not that I found anyway. What I did find was an interference with the melody; most of the notes in the third voice were covered by the chords present in the melody anyway. I added a total of 4 notes. Not exactly sure if that covers "being edited," so I left the sheet in dahans' name. :P
I also deleted a few unnecessary notes in the left hand and added a 1-measure ending.
As far as formatting goes, everything looks good. I'm just unable to add measure numbers on the side.

I'll also take a look at "Road to Fuschia".

Quote from: Brawler4Ever on June 29, 2015, 09:32:41 AMThere wasn't much in the third voice. Not that I found anyway. What I did find was an interference with the melody; most of the notes in the third voice were covered by the chords present in the melody anyway. I added a total of 4 notes. Not exactly sure if that covers "being edited," so I left the sheet in dahans' name. :P
No that's just the thing; the chords aren't supposed to be there. The melody is just single notes and the bottom notes in the chords are imagined and should be replaced with the independent second voice in a separate layer. (Compare the on-site version of Cinnabar Island with the one in the Dropbox folder for an example of what I mean when it comes to dahans' stuff.)

Hey, no problem! We'd appreciate your help!

I think I finished Pallet Town, though. You can check it out in the dropbox folder (link somewhere above) and tell me if there are any mistakes. Here are the sheets that need the most fixes right now:
Quote from: Latios212 on June 27, 2015, 04:21:23 PM"Title Screen" - Needs to be split up into "Opening Movie" and "Title Screen" as Yellow shares the same Title Screen theme. It still has many wrong notes from dahans' old sheet and note durations need to be checked as well.
"Professor Oak's Laboratory" - Third voice completely incorrect.
"Silph Co." - accidental checking, among other things.
"Opening (Yellow)" - This one's a little messy...

Haha I'm-a comin'!

EDIT: Now we need to figure out what we're gonna do regarding custom endings. Yes or no? I know that Bespinben is a supporter and while I kinda agree, I personally think that it has to depend on the situation and the way it's given. To justify a custom ending for me it would have to be at least somewhat elaborate and not just a cadence or something else just kinda thrown in. Thoughts?

ALSO: There's some discrepancy regarding "game name" on some sheets. Some read "Pokémon Red/Blue Version" while others read "Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow Version". Obviously the tracks that are Yellow Version exclusive will just read "Pokémon Yellow Version" only but should we have all three game names for those to which it applies?

Post by: Latios212 on July 14, 2015, 10:46:07 AM
I'll post my thoughts on custom endings later cuz I'm kinda busy but for game name, I'd say Red/Blue Version mainly because the other type of naming would get messy when we get to gen 5.

Would it though? How so?

ALSO: In the dropbox folder I added a text file explaining in detail the calculation for the percentile on the Target Post. Just in case you guys were wondering. Truth actually is that it's mainly there so I don't forget it next time it needs updating.

Either way works fine up until gen 5 where we'd have to combine "Pokémon Black/White Version" and "Pokémon Black/White Version 2"which would get really messy.
Title: Re: The "Fixing the Sheets" Initiative 2.0 - Current Target: Pokémon R/B *Revival!*

But they're two different pairs of games. This time we did Gen 1 but if we did Gen 5, we'd prob do them separately or at least view them separately. For tracks that appear in both pairs I would actually have them relisted on the site under both names.

But most of the BW songs were carried over to BW2 just as the entire OST of RB appears in Yellow. We wouldn't re-list 45 tracks from RB under Yellow, and similarly we wouldn't want to list the BW OST twice.

Anyway this isn't that relevant right now, so is sticking with "Pokémon Red/Blue Version" fine? It doesn't really matter to me as long as we keep it consistent.

I think we'd write "Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow" simply because the song are in yellow too, and they're are under the same category. I'd say black & White is a different case and that we should focus on Gen 1.

Actually while that's true, most of the BW2 reiterations are modified from the original. So rearranging them is fully reasonable. Unless I'm forgetting some cases.

Jigglypuff's Song was never returned so I'm assuming it was just dropped. So I returned its Red status.

As for Pallet, I just missed it. My mistake.

Also, we never fully addressed the issue before: Red/Blue or Red/Blue/Yellow? Personally I'm starting to think I'm with Tobbeh on this one.

JD in the OP you wrote "Jesse & James' Theme", however I think "Jesse & James Appears" is a better title to fit in with the rest of the "appears-themes". Unless you've found some official soundtrack where the title says so.

Also concerning names, should we really have "(yellow version)" on every yellow sheet. On the opening theme and the unused track it is necessary to specify that they are from yellow, but the rest I think it seems unnecessary.

While I think that Pokémon is a unique case, I think that the arrangements were planned to be Red/Blue because the original composition was for Red/Blue, and the new pieces were composed for Yellow. The closest comparison I can think of outside Pokémon is the remake of Ocarina of Time. There's a much larger time gap and the music was technically redone, but it's the same composition. We wouldn't list Ocarina of Time 3D on any of those sheets even though they have the same music. We also wouldn't list Ocarina of Time 3D as its own game under the Zelda section.

Well yeah I'm thinking for this it either should be Pokémon Red/Blue Version on the site and the Yellow songs added in with a little label or something for clarification, or read Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow Version and still have the same label for the Yellow. But I see your point and yeah if we do just Red/Blue then it kinda also follows the way they were written originally.

We've officially established that the game title on the sheet will be "Pokémon Red/Blue Version" but "Pokémon Yellow Version" on all Yellow exclusives.

Also in the works: On my to-do list is to arrange the songs in the Target Post in the order they appear in the folder as well as giving them their proper names since this became an arranging project as well.

If the notes are there, I should be able to finish it off lickety-split. The notes are by far the most time consuming and exhausting part.

10 minutes later: Actually I have some ideas for this that are a bit questionable so maybe I'll get some second-party tips as I go.

I understand that you like your custom endings and all but to me custom endings in general just seem so individual when put on a sheet that in comparison is so canonical (since it's not written by us). Maybe everyone totally disagrees with me which is fine but personally I still have my reservations about them. I also think that if custom endings become a thing, wouldn't we all have to do them then? Otherwise it's kinda random and disorganized which really just rubs me the wrong way.

I personally have no issue with DPP, but it has been a while since the last poll was up. If everyone still wants to do Pokemon DPP, then we just need to nominate it and vote for it again, simple as that. d:

Double post cuz important question is important: I noticed the game name changed from "Pokémon Red/Blue Version" to "Pokémon Red Version & Pokémon Blue Version". What's the reason for the switch I implore? I don't see any problem with what we had to begin with and tbh I can't help but feel that the extended title would look out of place as a header on the main site. And obviously the sheets have to be exactly the same as the main site game heading.

How about just "Pokemon Red & Blue Version"

Cuz the game isn't Red & Blue. They're 2 different games and tbh I see that best illustrated with either using a "/" to split them or by reiterating the "Version" twice.

That's what we decided makes the most sense.

I see. Well it works and it'll satisfy me I'm just worried that it might eventually get too long but no biggie. Cool beans.

Hey, if I had voted we change it and it had been accepted, I would've taken responsibility for updating them all. You've done plenty already. ;)

Final changes:
- Third voice removed from Rocket Hideout and Pewter City for the sake of playability.
- Olimar replaced "Jessie & James Appear".
- Titles all changed to "Pokémon Red Version & Pokémon Blue Version".

Final announcements:
- Celadon and Lavender are the only sheets left. Some final cleanup and we'll be done.

My thoughts on Olimar's replacement of Jessie & James Appears:

Olimar's arrangement has richer accompaniment with the pedal fifths, mine were a bit empty only having off-beat a's as accompaniment (I did thought about adding a fourth to make it richer but decided to stick with a's and to keep it close to the original, and adding a fourth would also mess up the second part).
The fourth beat accent seem more natural in my arrangement as they are in the same octave as the accompaniment.
My arrangement has the third high voice in the second part.

Both arrangements are really good, I personally think mine is better but I guess you have a reasoned about why to make the replacement so I'm fine with it.

Olimar: "no need to over complicate things", in short.

Tobbeh:  when I get a chance, we need to have a small chat about your arranging habits. I spent a lot of time editing your files in particular and I think I have some positive feedback and constructive criticism they can help you in the future.
