Title: Pokémon - The Origin
Post by: CLBGM on August 16, 2013, 09:24:53 PM
Well, after seeing this trailer, I can finally sleep in peace.

At last! A wild Red appears! And Green too, of course. Check out this very promising trailer. What do you guys think about it? :D

He picked Charmander for Brock, what an idiot.

Is this a movie or an entire new series?

There are rumors that it will be a special episode (like Jimmy = Gold).

I have a hard time believing that they could get Red to get his Charmander fully evolved in 2-3 of a movie. (Forget a special episode)
I wouldn't be surprised if this became a series. Which, by the way, would be amazing.

Post by: Nebbles on August 17, 2013, 09:17:53 AM
I think it's a special of some sort, but it's definitely not just one episode. It can't be.

I'm hoping for an entire series (at least one season) but a movie would probably satisfy me too... (Not as much of course)
But they are saying it's an anime. Which means a series. I'm so excited. X'D

Im hoping the same :D, but they officially announced that it will be a half hour special episode. If this episode is successful, I hope they consider to make an entire series. That would be awesome!

I don't know how this couldn't be successful.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee it going beyond one episode. It's bound to be fun though.

But how would they have Red receive his first pokémon and battle Blue with it fully evolved in half an hour? Unless those clips aren't actually from the episode... :o

No, it's a special episode that will last ~2 hours. So basically it's a movie

That's more believable. But still, they're really gonna have to rush to get a charmander to a charizard in two hours...

Pretty sure the movie is going to skip time. Plenty of events are bound to happen off camera.

Probably. Although that kinda sucks.
Title: Re: Pokémon - The Origin

So according to the website, it seems that it's going to be split into four major parts, with the titles of each "episode" being "Red," "Cubone," "Giovanni," and "Charizard."

Also
Spoiler
Mewtwo's going to be in it, probably at the end, after the battle with Green and Blastoise. Although, I'm guessing that the Cubone episode will give some foreshadowing for Mewtwo too.

So yeah, this was pretty cool. Really liked the battle scenes (kinda hax though), and I'm glad that they focused on the more interesting plot points of the game.

I guess a nitpick would be how in the second episode
Spoiler
Marowak (a Ground-type) gets killed by electricity.

But I guess there's not gonna be much discussion on this until the dub or a sub's out. >_>

Where did you guys find the subs? I just watched the first two episodes and they were fine, but wherever I look for episode 3, it's the same shitty translation...
Title: Re: Pokémon - The Origin
Post by: Jompa on October 05, 2013, 05:57:56 PM
I watched them all on animefreak.tv.
When I was watching ep 1 the subs were ok, but when I was watching ep 2 they were horrible - sometimes, they even turned spanish..
Ep 3 was ok, but all the names were in romanized japanese, and you could tell it was not done by a native English speaker - far from it actually. Same with ep 4, but really, they were understandable enough.

Only for one line of Green's. But I understand/read spanish so it didn't slow me down one bit. Took it right in stride. :P

No but seriously I can understand general translation errors but how can you accidentally write something in the wrong language?
EDIT: I think my favorite mistranslation is "Professor Orchid".

Also, this isn't REALLY a spoiler, but just to be safe, if you don't want to see a frame from episode 4, don't open this.

It happened twice with me - and a couple of times they were using ! or ? they had one upside-down at the beginning of the sentences :P There was also a brief moment some notes (you know, so that the editors can mark out certain areas) showed up and covered the screen, that they'd forgotten to remove.
Quote from: FierceDeity on October 06, 2013, 12:05:43 AMI think my favorite mistranslation is "Professor Orchid".
But "Orchid" is kinda how it is pronounced in Japanese (Okido), so it's not too strange when the guy translating this only went with the Japanese names, just written in English.

This was a fun watch, kinda nostalgic. I almost want to look for my Gameboy and play Blue again.

Spoiler
Red got all the badges and caught all the known pokemons in four episodes.
So, Ash, what have you achieved in 700+ episodes?

Title: Re: Pokémon - The Origin

Actually, it went from small flowering plant to big tree, since in the original Japanese his name is Dr. Orchid, just as Jompa said

Eh I kinda forgot about this, but then I remembered that I downloaded the 4 episodes last week and I finally got around to watch them.
It was just so good. Who the fuck said "Yeah 4 episodes is enough." This should've been a series, not just a 2 hours special.
Also I never had any problems with the subs (no Spanish subs), and I think it's cool they kept the Japanese names instead of translating them.
Title: Re: Pokémon - The Origin

I agree, Origins should have been a full blown series. It's everything I need in a proper Pokemon anime.

Origins is more realistic, less corny, and more true to the games than the TV show is. Overall I call it a win.

And there are no cheap wins. Red won his first gym battle fair and square, unlike Ash's stupid abuse of a goddamn sprinkler system.
