Title: NSM Community Chamber Ensembles
Post by: FierceDeity on November 26, 2013, 07:43:03 PM
So, I love Maestro's idea of taking the different instrumentalists that we have here on NSM, and writing a piece for a community performance. However, I think that the massive instrumentation he's including (i.e. everybody on the goddamn site) is a little more than I and most others on here can handle/have time for (whether Maestro himself can has yet to be seen; ball's in your court ;)).

Anyways, I thought this would be a nice place to keep a list of available instrumentation, and to discuss future projects. If you want in on this, go ahead and let me know what instruments you play, and I'll try to organize them into a coherent list. Don't worry too much about when you're going to have access to these instruments/the ability to record, because the idea here isn't to have a set deadline, but a general forum for organizing such things, at which point any limitations can be discussed on an individual basis.

Maybe this'll catch on, maybe it won't, but personally, I'd love to see the arrangements performed on this site to expand beyond solo piano.

(I may make a score order list of instruments and people who play them later, if more people "sign up", so to speak. For now, I'm going to do the reverse of that, since we have far more instruments than players :P)

Someone already made (rather, started) a thread (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4208.0) keeping track of what instruments everyone plays.

I agree though, seeing performances of arrangements other than ones for solo piano would be pretty neat.  Taking part in some of them would be even cooler.

Haha jeeeez that one hasn't been updated in a while. I guess this would be more of a "who's willing to do this sort of thing" thread than "who plays these things", anyways, so I'm still for the idea of creating a list of people who reply to this. As (hopefully) more and more people indicate that they're willing, we can speculate as to what types of ensembles could work.

Edit: I play the bass trombone.

In that case, sign me up for [electric] violin, as usual.

I'd be willing to lend a hand in preparing some arrangements, I need to try my hand at writing chamber music, so this could be a win/win.

I have a good number of brass trios, quartets, and quintets if you guys want to put something together soon.

Actually I have two, but one's a piece of crap. The other is pretty nice, it's a Yamaha SV150.

That'd be cool. What instrumentation? Because I don't think we have any horn players on site haha, and I'm not sure about trumpet players either.

Most are all for bass clef, but they can be changed to any instrumentation, really.

Well, if there's one thing we seem to have in ample supply, it's trombone players, haha

Whoops. Totally meant to copy/paste that and modify the original post with it. Not quite sure how I managed to do that.

AHHHHH YES

Can we do starship mario first :3 individual parts for that would be appreciated, because I'm assuming you wrote that on 2012, and I can't do that in notepad

Also, do you want me on euphonium or trombone? (the euphonium's large bore, the trombone is small bore, I have schilke 51D mouthpieces for both shank sizes)

...oh, and I may not be able to record until I get back to school late january. I'm about to leave in 2 days, and I'm pretty sure the recording studios are already closed down. I would be able to record at home, but I have to leave my instruments at school over break, and all I have at home is a shitty 3-valve beginner model euph :/

If we get a third player, I'll put up the parts' links (too lazy, on a separate HD). I'd prefer you use whichever you are more comfortable with, but if the first and second parts matched instruments that would be nice too.
