Question:
What is your favorite game in the Mario & Luigi series?
Option 1: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Option 2: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Option 3: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Option 4: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Hey! I just realized we have no general thread for talking about the Super Mario series, so here's one if you have any news or thoughts about any of the games. Any Mario game can be talked about here, just be sure to mark spoilers!
Anyway, I just beat Superstar Saga on my Wii U--in the past, I had been able to get to the final boss, but had never beaten it before. It's a really tough fight! With that, I can finally say I've beaten all games in the Mario & Luigi series.
With the recent re-release of this game, I thought a good poll to start us off would be about the Mario & Luigi series. My personal favorite is the most recent one, Dream Team. Go ahead and vote! And is anyone else planning on buying Superstar Saga on Wii U?
Hmm, my favorites were Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, but I think I prefer SS a little more. Anyways, as much as I like it, I don't actually think I'll buy it for the VC, since I've replayed it on the GBA like 15 times back then hehe.
Superstar Saga and Dream Team are very close for me. Leaning toward Superstar Saga for now, but Dream Team will always stand out since I love Luigi, and the battle theme in the dream world's just too catchy.
Don't really see the point in getting the GBA games if I ever get a Wii U, since I still have my old ones, as well as a GB player. The only one that was announced that interested me was Advance Wars, but there's no multiplayer on the VC games. :(
SMS and SMG are the best of the bunch
But SMB 1 2 and 3 get the nostalgia points for me.
I'll be getting all of three of the released GBA games, as those are all one which I missed but have played the rest of their series.
On the topic of Mario in RPG form, I have yet to play Superstar Saga, but I must say Dream Team is probably the best of the other three I've played.
Thanks, Slow! Now I've got to choose, thanks to you! :P
I love them all very much! I suppose my favourite is Partners in Time because of its darker theme and the fact that the final boss phase was insanely fun. Plus, leveling up was a breeze. ;)

I loved that game...
But I gived up on the bosses so many times. So frustrating.
All of the Mario & Luigi games are easy enough if you just keep up on your grinding. Don't skip any enemies or you'll regret.
And then you have the final Cackletta. I was OVERLEVELED when I got to her and it was still ridiculously hard. Hardest fight in the series in my opinion.
Everyone seems to hate the final boss of Partners in Time but I never had serious trouble with it...
So uh, what about us people who've never really played the Mario & Luigi series?..
I've only played Partners in Time and Dream Team, though I should definitely play the others... Dream Team is a blast though, and I really love the music.
Dream Team is the best in my opinion but Bowser's Inside Story is great if only for the ridiculous writing. They're all great games though and if you have a Wii U and are interested in trying the series, there's no reason not to buy Superstar Saga on the eShop. It's $7.99.

Well then, you should fix that.
My ranking of the Mario & Luigi series
1. Super Star Saga -- Incredible. It had a sense of charm and originality none of the other games has come close to. And that final boss....
2. Bowser's Inside Story. -- Easily the second best. Also original and fresh and you get to play as Bowser! But the final boss was a pushover
3. Partners in Time -- I had high expectations of this game, but they were never met. The story had few of the twists that the others had, and just felt bland.
4. Dream Team -- I want to like this game, but there is just too much filler, a bland story, and hand-holding to the max.
Partners in Time is actually a better game than BIS, and Superstar Saga is the least good of the bunch. Nice try though

breh.
Final boss of the original was pretty fun once you figured out the attack patterns. I really enjoyed that it was challenging not only as a strategy game but also with the quick timing you had to have for dodging.
I still haven't finished Bowser's Inside Story, and thus haven't acquired Dream Team yet, and it's been a long time since I played Partners in Time plus I only played through it once so I don't recall too much besides the last boss being fun :P
I haven't played any but Bowser's inside story yet, but I plan to get Superstar saga for Wii U Virtual console.
And I seriously doubt any of the other final bosses' music is as good as the Bowser's Inside Story one... I love that OST.

Ohohohoho Bowser's Inside Story has an AMAZING OST but have you considered:
End of game boss music from Partners in Time:
End of game boss music from Dream Team:
I remember some great childhood memories from Partners in Time.
Although I didn't level up enough for reaching the almost-final boss. Was a bitch to beat.
Played a little bit of BIS. Liked it lol
I loved Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, but I got Bowser's Inside Story first, so I have to go with that. :)
The final SS battle was insanely hard for me, and after I finally beat it, the castle exploded and I was sooo upset. XD I thought it was a really good game, though. I laughed for the majority of the game,
PiT was the easiest game in my opinion; I beat the final bosses on the second try (it would have been the first, but my dad interrupted it and killed me :P ) The boss music was also really good and intense.
BiS was the game that made me get the other two; I loved the gameplay, the humor, and Fawful. While her tutorials could be annoying, I liked Starlow as a character. She was a sassy female role, and her interactions with Luigi were pretty funny, imo.
I don't have a 3DS, so I've never played DT, but I've heard it's good!
Bowser's Inside Story was my favorite while playing through: the story was great and just the whole thing was a blast. ;D
Though I did like the gameplay of Partners in Time the best. The babies added more depth to the battles and more possibilities for exploring. I love the whole series, but at times the puzzles in the other three games can get a little simplistic.
Though I'm disappointed in the lack of a post-game in each, I've played through all four and M&L is definitely one of my favorite spin-off series :)
imo, Superstar Saga is the best, but mostly because that was the first I played.
Bowser's Inside Story is a close second.
Personally, I didn't like either Partners in Time and Dream Team that much.
I'm not sure how to put it, but PiT just felt really off for some reason. It didn't really upgrade any mechanics and the plot was much less engaging than SS.
Dream Team was just bleh. It felt bloated. They story was mediocre at best. It wasn't that hard. It wasn't that interesting. The giant battles felt to scripted. And, oh, THE HAND-HOLDING. I think I've played few other games as bad as this one. At least the others tried to be subtle about it....
Lack of post game is totally understandable since they're adventure games lol. My favorite of the games is definitely Dream Team, with probably Partners in Time or Bowser's Inside Story following that (they're about equal for me). Superstar Saga is pretty good but it's fairly short compared to the others--still a very long experience for an adventure game, but just "less of a good thing" than the others.
Nice thread slow!!!
I have to go for Bowser's inside story, because it is one of the most creative games I have played so far. I was a little disappointed with dream team to be honest.
The following would belong to the confession thread but I was never able to beat super star saga. Ahhhhh :S
Honestly I don't judge you because I could never beat it until I played it on Wii U. I could never beat the final boss.
Friendly notice that Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is now available on Wii U eShop, and, as with all of the four games in that series, it has my highest recommendation. Partners in Time almost more so than the others, since it was my introduction to the series and is also arguably the weirdest and darkest of the four. Oh, and if you play it, be ready to laugh. A lot.
I like the mechanics in this game because the babies add complexity to the battles and the overworld. The puzzles and battles felt more satisfying in this game, although I didn't like the story quite as much as, say, Bowser's Inside Story.
Lmao Super Mario Maker is such a good plan

I just love that Nintendo is finally letting me be a level designer.
Like...!
Have you guys seen this??
It's apparently gonna be in the 'featured section' in the game >:P
So, I've finally returned to Dream Team... at Neo Bowser Castle.
Yoooooooo just power on through you're so close. The first part of Neo Bowser Castle is annoying though because of how many times you have to deal with Kamek.
Still, those last couple boss fights are absolutely WONDERFUL if you're at the right level for them--that is, not too weak that it's impossible, but not too strong that there's no challenge. Watch out for the final boss though, it can be wicked difficult.
I'm at level 32 right now, I believe.
I recommend being Lv. 40 to take on the final bosses. You probably won't be able to beat them if you're too much weaker than that.
Gotcha, I'll train up to 40 before the final bosses. The music in Neo Bowser castle is so damn good though.
Heh it really is, I love that percussive rhythm! The dreamy version is really interesting in how much darker it is. There's actually a second Neo Bowser Castle theme that you hear once you get past the first half, and I like it even better because it has this really ominous sense of finality to it, even in the dreamy version.
Wakeport is still my favorite song in the game though, that flute + guitar combo does so many wonders for me.
That's a great one. Wakeport, Mount Pajamaja, and Somnom Woods are probably my favorite area themes from the game.
Somnom Woods is magical, and I do love the snowy version of Mount Pajamaja.
My favorite is the lumbering brass and piano parts in the first version :D the way the strings are layered is really cool as well and the melody is so nice.

Considering Nintendo has shaped a bit of my life philosophy with their design philosophy, this is just the darndest...!
But they'll never get me to like brussels sprouts.
Try them roasted with olive oil.
Any thoughts on Super Mario Maker yet?
Quote from: K-NiGhT on September 11, 2015, 08:03:32 AMAny thoughts on Super Mario Maker yet?
I need it in my life. Does that count?
General consensus from critics is that it's beyond fantastic (actually getting better reviews than the NSMB series lmao). Still, $60 is pricey and I just bought two games so I think this will have to wait. :/
it's not worth $60 it's literally a map editor and they make it seem as if it's a big title
Best game. 3/hat

if it's a GOOD map editor then it's worth 60. plus you can play the levels, so if you wanted to I guess you could make your own 60 dollar game
All amiibo costumes in Super Mario Maker (http://kotaku.com/every-costume-in-super-mario-maker-1730084595?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow)

I was going to say that's a pretty good reason to get amiibos but I can just play through the 100 level challenge to get them apparently
My parents won't let me get it >:(
The same old, "Games are a waste of money" is very very old.
Don't worry, I'll have it in a week or 2. After egging on them for 2 weeks, I'll be bound to get it :P
Making really dumb levels is way too much fun.

Can second this. Have you even seen my levels? They all suck! ;D But I just finished unlocking the entire palette of elements. I'll be ready to actually try and make some good courses tomorrow probably.
I was never really one for level-making games, but somehow, with SMM, I just start fooling around, and BAM, a level results from it! Or my friends will make requests, like Hammer Time.
nice (http://kotaku.com/how-a-mario-character-was-named-after-motorheads-lemmy-1750180427?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow)
I'm sorry. I just had to.
