I don't know who it's by but "River Flows in You" is pretty well known I think and it probably fits what you're thinking of

It's by Yiruma. A lot of his songs fit the description.
As for videah geym mujzik, maybe N's Farewell from Pokémon BW? I like playing that.

Only really sad if you played Majora's mask, but a beautiful song nevertheless.
and this one is just so good:
Do you mind arranging? Here's two that need good arrangements:
Don't Speak Her Name! (FE: Awakening)

Here's my own personal list of favorite video game pieces that are both really sad and really beautiful. I doubt it's going to be of much help to you, but if you or anyone else likes sad video game music you might be interested in hearing these, maybe even arranging or playing them. Using a spoiler tag because it's a pretty big list. I bolded three of my favorites; also the tracks are arranged in alphabetical order according to game title.

Song of healing has incredible potential if you know and are able to play with it enough. To bring all the pain out of it. I do it frequently.

And sometimes you can just take songs that may or may not already sound sad, and sadify them. I remember making a good requiem-style piece of the Legend of Zelda theme in F# minor. It's all about the chord changes.

As for emotional game soundtracks I would probably recommend every sound heard in the game To The Moon. Most tracks only use piano, which should be great for you guys out here. c:
My two favorites... Especially the second one always makes me wanna cry. xD
Once Upon a Memory (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auDqBeJP8A8)

Born a Stranger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqSzB_xBmtM)

EDIT: Goshdangit, I should stop trying to be fancy with forumcode knowledge from three years ago. ._. Links fixed. :D

So, "Sad but beautiful" oddly both vague and specific. We each have a song that comes to mind immediately, but upon further review, we realize that there are so many more songs we know that could apply to that description.

Slow took any that I would have posted, but there is one that, while personally it doesn't make me sad, but rather puts me at extreme peace is this, the acoustic arrangement of the Main Theme of Kaeru no Tameni Kane wa Naru, which was a Japan-only Game Boy game:

This song was released on the Peach Healing Music CD over Club Nintendo some years ago...

I'm absolutely in love with this song.
