Option 2: [SNES] Kirby Super Star (Maelstrom)
Option 3: [GCN] Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (NocturneofShadow)
Option 4: [GCN] Super Smash Bros. Melee (JDMEK5)
Option 5: [NDS] Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Olimar12345)
Option 6: Super Mario RPG (Bloop)
Title: The "Replacing the Sheets Project" 2.0 - Current Target: Vote Here! [Voting Done
Post by: Sebastian on January 02, 2015, 09:39:45 AM
Here is where we will vote for The "Replacing the Sheets Project" 2.0 Game target!
The poll will go up when we get 6 Game options from the "Super Mario" series and another series.
Why "Super Mario"? Bloop says it best when I asked his opinion:

Quote from: Bloop on January 02, 2015, 08:56:25 AMI think either the Mario or The Legend of Zelda would be a good target. I think they are the most visited section of NSM, so our sheets for the best known songs should be of top quality.
Since most of the Zelda sheets are top quality, just a Super Mario will be required.

So when you post, give me 1 Game from any series and 1 Super Mario and I'll put it in the poll. When we have 6 pairs (of 1 any game and 1 Super Mario), I'll put up the poll!
Non-arrangers can only vote in the poll.

We were originally going to go in Alphabetical order replacing songs, but it will bring more traffic this way if we vote :)

Submissions for poll:
1. [N64] Super Mario 64 (mariolegofan)
2. [SNES] Kirby Super Star (Maelstrom)
3. [GCN] Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (NocturneofShadow)
4. [GCN] Super Smash Bros. Melee (JDMEK5)
5. [NDS] Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Olimar12345)
6.
7.

While it is a good reason, I really feel that other sections need it more.
Like, for example, the kirby or fire emblem, or even the smash bros sections. I'm hard pressed to tind any abominations besides Angry Bowser.

Wind Waker's console should be [GCN] (game cube). You don't include remakes in the console section.

What's your vote, Olimar?

EDIT to Olimar:
"Race with Mary" is almost identical to "Ordinance Storage" except faster.
Could I replace "Race with Mary" with "Ordinance Storage?"

I guess so. I'd be fine with WW, but KSS has literally the worst arrangements on the site. Including "The Halberd," generally recognized as the worst abomination on the entire site. And KSS has one of the best SNES soundtracks.....

Well, the only problem with doing SSBM is that all the fixes have been done. I agree, those sheets really, really need to be put on the site. But it's not a project others can arrange for.
I still think KSS needs it really, really badly......

I think it'd be a good idea for an updater to also look through the sheets to see what needs fixing. That way, we'll hopefully never have to do this ever again.

Cuz if you're game, mlf, I'd love to join efforts with you, finish both the Banjo-Kazooie and the Pokemon 1st Gen, then start 4th Gen as one, united project. There's a reason it hasn't happened yet. Same reason why we haven't started another official arrangement project yet.
It takes time to review all these sheets in detail, and more projects just means a bigger backlog for the updaters to deal with in addition to the rest of the submissions.

What if all of these projects had a single dedicated updater? Just one person whose only job, as it were, is to monitor these arrangement projects and none of the other normal submissions? This way the normal updates can still move along and these larger initiatives can actually see some completion.

If these things are successful it'll only lead to more people wanting to help, making future efforts much easier.

I'm game for anything! :)
The banjo project is finished were just waiting for the updaters to look over the sheets. Olimar, Deku, and Bespinben have already gone through 5 or 6 I think (they're under accepted). But as of now, Bespinben is making this project his top priority and Deku is fixing up some of the ones on site while Bespinben is looking over the finished ones on the op.

Excellent idea! I vote Bespinben ;)
If we were doing this democratically, I think it would go through. JDMEK5, Maestro, Maelstrom, and I already agree on that idea. But I guess we need to hear what the updaters think.....

Alright cool. So while that goes on I'll try to wrap things up on my end and I'll use the updaters when you're done with them. XD

Quote from: mariolegofan on April 15, 2015, 11:20:18 AMTrue! Maybe we could get a new Updater.....
Maybe before we start thinking new mods we should see if we don't already have enough. Bespinben seems to be getting the regular submission process going quite smoothly so maybe Deku or Olimar could if they aren't too busy. And speaking of mods does anyone know what happened to Winter? Is it just me or did he like leave or something?

Winter's around. He and I both are afflicted with sporadic bursts of motivation; he just has them less frequently than I do. He also has told me once he feels "out of practice".

...and thanks for being considerate of my current workload. Really appreciate it.

Another updater would be nice, but using what we already have available is probably better. I'll go Skype Winter and see what he's up to.

As for specific updaters covering specific projects, if no one minds  I'll hold down the fort with submissions once schools out (a few more weeks and few hundred more performances!) if you want to divide and conquer. Tbh, I never had much interest in BK and PM music, so mustering the willpower to go through them was rough. I do plan to hit subs with full force this summer, so be prepared.

I like this! I'd be a lot more motivated for PKMN music than Banjo stuff, so I think each of us can find our niche and prosper. We can always cross over too. Not like Olimar has to be alone with submissions, or vice versa.

Hey everyone!

Quote from: mariolegofan on January 10, 2015, 07:23:40 AMAny help with the preparations would be greatly appreciated :)

For the past few days, MLF and I have spent a minute or two looking over each sheet from the D/P/Pt section and have come up with this preliminary list right here.  It's by no means a comprehensive list of all the problems in the sheets (there are lots!) but it's a good starting point. So go ahead and add errors that you find or correct anything I may have said wrong.

Feel free to get a head start working on a sheet or two (and let us know so there's no overlap), but keep in mind that the project hasn't officially started yet. That'll happen when MLF posts a new topic when the Banjo project is done.

Mostly this is happening right now because mods/updaters are busy finishing off the other projects, but most of the arranging work is done for the Banjo and Pokémon R/B project.  So eager arrangers can get a head start on this! :)

Here are some widespread problems throughout most of the sheets, so I won't bother repeating them. These should be double checked for all sheets.
- URL needs to be updated
- Text formatting does not match guidelines (Also check for correct copyright and composer info, and the accented é in Pokémon)
- Measure size and spacing, margins, and aesthetic stuff
- Lack of dynamics and articulation (and maybe metronome markings)

I'll mainly focus on the music in the following list.

Key: Status Color Code: (borrowed from JDMEK5)
Red: This sheet has not yet been fixed. A diagnosis of problems will be provided in a spoiler.
Yellow: This sheet is currently being fixed.
Brown: This sheet has been reworked but still hasn't met current standards. Work on this sheet has been dropped by the original modifier. Treatment is identical to red. This sheet is up for grabs.
Blue: This sheet has been fixed and has gained approval from myself and all of you (as far as you have spoken). However this sheet still lacks approval from Olimar12345 or TheDekuTrombonist. Such approval is pending. (Hang tight! ;))
Green: This sheet has been fixed and has gained approval from a sufficient number of moderators and thereby will be uploaded.
Black: This song will be gone by the time we're done. Don't bother trying to save it.

Key: "How Much Work Needs to be Done" Code: (I made this myself!)
1: This sheet very nearly matches NSM standards! It just needs a few finishing touches.
2: This sheet is quite good, but still needs some nontrivial changes.
3: This sheet generally matches the original song, but needs some major work. Still, you'll be able to salvage a large part of it.
4: This sheet needs to be completely reworked. It is plagued by many inaccurate/missing notes or disastrous formatting errors. Starting it over might be a good idea.

Fixed. Most of the sheets currently on site (like Route 209) don't specify day or night, but all town/route themes have a different day and night version. (Kinda sad they discontinued this in the recent games.)

Route 205: The night solo and duet are by Fingerz, and they are pretty good already. The day version by dahans, which happens to be a duet, needs some more work.

Wow I don't think I ever asked for the Rival Battle Theme to be put on site even :P It was literally my first arrangement ever, and there are more errors than you've pointed out here (lots of wrong keys (this was over three years ago)) and just overall pretty shabby, though I have to defend the beaming in m12, as that is an acceptable note-beaming (not saying the alternative is wrong ofc).
I can't be participating in fixing these as I use Finale 2014, meaning no one will be able to open my files, so good luck everyone else.

I don't have much knowledge of music theory so I pointed out obvious inaccuracies and formatting errors for the most part... the list does need a lot of updating.
