Title: Tobbeh99's Arrangements (NEW: Yoshi's Story - Baby Bowser's Lullaby)
Post by: Tobbeh99 on February 06, 2015, 08:24:36 AM
Going to have my sheet music on a website. But working on that. However in the meantime, I'll post my arrangement here at a dropbox link. (y the other links are dead, and restoring them will take a lot of work which is why I just make this dropbox folder here:

Nevermind the site is up :) Tobbeh99.com (//Tobbeh99.com)

Here are my arrangements:

Idk if anyone told you this, but you are an awesome arranger. Might be nice if you added a mark next to the newly added ones so I could differentiate them from the rest.  :-\
Anyway, solid arrangements, as always.

Pretty solid arrangements! Some of them only need a little overall clean-up. Nice work! I'll give some feedback once I have some free time.

Quick feedback:

- Evil Spreads Across the Land: the bass seems to be off in the first measures.
- Rolling Ridge: Sounds very good, but the rhythm is not well notated, it should be

and so on. Also, why G major? It's in C. And lastly, those chords you have on measure 4 and so on should be, instead of C-Bb, D-C, you should put, Bb-D-Bb and C-E-C (dang, forgot it to include it in the snapshot). Try it, matches perfectly.

Nice work!

Finished Two Quest of the Triforce (Intro) from Zelda Oracles!
Wow took a while but I think the result is great. I added the title screen song right after it because it fit and that's how it is in the game.

There are a couple of things I'm not certain of in the song:
-Whether measure 1-7 goes in 4/4 or 2/2.
-Whether measure 9-11 goes in 4/4 or 5/4+3/4+4/4
-If measure 42-46 is to simple done

Please let me know your opinion if you want to share it! :)

Ok, finished The Pirates' Game. Took a while since I've been busy with the URL project and studies. It also took some time considering that I Jazzed it up a bit which I think enhances the arrangement greatly. However I'm not the best at jazz/blues but I did my best, so feel free to post any ideas of chords and stuff I might change in the arrangement.

On the other hand, only ONE more Zelda: Oracles song left! After "Credits and Staff Roll" I've "Completed the games"!

Ok, finished a couple of Final Fantasy themes. FFIV main theme is also in process, and I might do more Final Fantasy, I have some songs on my to-do-list (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=3343.0).

I don't know about the repeat in FFII Main Theme, if it's correct. Since it repeats to the pickup measure, I might edit that if it's incorrect, one thing I've noticed was that the playback is a bit weird at that point.
Title: Re: Tobbeh99 Arrangements (NEW: Final Fantasy)
Post by: Tobbeh99 on May 27, 2015, 02:33:11 PM
Finally finished Simple Song from Rise of Nations. Really simple song to arrange(ironic), I thought it was going to be easy but annoying harp chords took a lot of time to figure out, and I'm not entirely sure that they are correct.
I was thinking ocatavating the LH on ocatave down, but I decided not to, and instead stick to the original song as much as possible by keeping it as it is.
I also might need to edit the second part (in E-major)a bit, because the fact is that the bass notes are actually on beat, but since that would be impossible to play, I made them a 8th late, letting the left hand pick them up. However I might need to use rest instead of ties, so it dosn't look like the note is to be sustained to the next beat interfering with the new chord. I also might want to make some pedal notation in the beginning of the second part to clarify. I'll see if do that.

Just updated the sheets on port town. I don't know how to do the repeats, if there's a better way then to have the text there(In worst case I might need to use 2 pages, but I want to keep it on 1 page to save pages). TA-Da! I've now completed the games! By that I mean arranged every remaining Zelda Oracles of Seasons/Ages song! There might still be some work left to do on some, and I maybe going to do some replacements on some, but I announce the project to be completed.

Other thoughts: so weird titles: "Credits & Staff Roll" and "Ending Theme 1 - Din & Nayru rescued", the credits theme doesn't play during the credits and the ending theme doesn't play when you've saved Din & Nayru. More like the opposite, the credits theme plays when you've saved Din & Nayru, and the ending theme plays during the credits. WTF??

Very well done! Now all that's left is cleaning up and correcting some of them. And I agree with Mael, you got some serious arranging skills! You made a lot of arrangements in such a short time! However, my tip would be to focus a little bit more on quality rather than quantity. I'm not saying yours have bad quality or anything like that, in fact, they are very good overall, just that some things like that rhythmic issue in "Rolling Ridge" or the inaccurate bass in "Evil Spreads Across the Land" may not have happened if you had spent just a little more time revising each arrangement. :J

Thank you for your appreciation! The thing with Goron mountain was just that the rhythm confused me a bit, and Evil Spreads, I guess I didn't listen and compared enough to see that flaw with the bass. But I become better for each day I arrange, so hopefully those errors won't happen again. I'm also constantly updating my sheets so if I spot some error I'll edit it. For example: I've edited some of my old wild arms sheets "behind the scenes" to keep them fresh, since I've grown better as an arranger by the time.

Quote from: DonValentino on June 09, 2015, 01:26:05 PMmy tip would be to focus a little bit more on quality rather than quantity.

Y, I will probably focus more on qualitative rather than quantitative and more "take on song at a time", and maybe also longer songs.

Another song from Yu-Gi-Oh! dark duel stories. This one is really cool song it's Duel! VS Shadi. This game has no official soundtrack, so I name the song to this to fit the rest of the duel-themes. I've seen some other video where it was called Shadi's Theme, but I think my names are more consistent throughout the entire soundtrack.

No, what Maelstrom's saying is that this is very similar to the original from Kirby Super Star, and the sheet for that is pretty... not good. So since you're doing this song, someone could repurpose the sheet for KSS on site.

For some reason I interpreted his comment completely wrong (thought he meant Brawl Main Theme lol). But I guess I could do a Kirby Super Star Version too. they are pretty similar.

Way to go man this is awesome. Just don't forget your double bar lines at the key changes.

And in Measure 4, RH, Beat 3: I always heard this as an Eb at the top, not a C. That goes for here and everywhere else it applies.

THIS IS INSANE AND I LOVE IT

Looking at measures 3-10ish, the left hand, I would suggest "disconnecting" it a little - that is removing the gigantic slur markings because there are brief pauses, and reducing some of the note lengths or adding staccatos to indicate where the pauses happen. Actually this applies to most of the song.

I think you mean an E, not a Eb, maybe as a grace note. And yes possibly, I'll look up this.

Ah, yes I considered changing the ties to rests. But didn't do because I thought it was easier to read and that it wasn't that big of a difference because of the high tempo. But I can change it for accuracy.

Hm yeah even at this speed I feel like it makes a difference. The pauses feel pretty sharp to me. I guess you can create a different file, change it, and compare to see if it's still readable. I think it should work though. (But please get rid of the measures-wide slur markings in those places :P)

But again, awesome work!! :D

With that done that leaves me to the final song and it is....

Yep the main theme. Out of all the great songs from Brawl I decided to do this. The most popular theme from the game and the arrangement on site is terrible and needs to be replaced.

TA-DA! All three songs done! Now when the final song, Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme, is done I hereby announces the completion of this small Super Smash Bros. Brawl project!

Feel free to give me critique and feedback.
I'm not completely certain about the main theme which time signature it should be in. I think I got it right, the problem I have is that it gives so high note values but double tempo feels to fast, and 4/2 is a bit to unusual. So I think what I got is the best there is.

Also, did you know that it was Sakurai who wrote the lyrics for the main theme? Cool fact.

Here are the songs I arranged:
Meta Knight's Revenge (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Super%20Smash%20Bros.%20Brawl/Meta%20Knight%27s%20Revenge.zip)
Battlefield Ver. 2 (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Super%20Smash%20Bros.%20Brawl/Battlefield%20Ver.%202.zip)

Absolutely incredible arrangement, but I have one gripe:
Those high arpeggios.
They seen to draw away from the song itself, when I feel that just holding the cord would work better, in some cases. This isn't say they shouldn't exist at all in the song, but they just feel off when they are included in every instance.

I assume you mean the arpeggios in the B part, measures 3-9. I thought they were quite nice, filling out there in the middle of the measure , but y I might consider removing some or editing it.

I might do more from the game, like Juste's theme and Chapel of Dissonance, since the game has such a good soundtrack, but bad audio quality however. And also we need more Castlevania sheets on the site. :)

Finished another Spectrobes song! It's Haven Village ~ Destroyed from Spectrobes: Origins. This song somehow reminds me of free MMORPG's, I don't know why, lol. I thought it was going to be a quite stright-forward song to arrange, and it was apart from the time signature. I think I got it right, and the 16/8 is to make the song in so much compound time signatures as possible, I tried doing it in 4/4 but there were so many ties and it seemed more complicated, so I decided to do it in 16/8 and 12/8 and some other too.

Ta-Da! Wild Arms 2 opening theme "You'll Never Be Alone No Matter Where You Go". This one was a tough one. Lot's of guitar stuff and the pitch of the song is like a quarter tone or so below A440, which in all made it difficult. And here's another Skylanders: Giants song "Skystones"! The song originates from an adventure pack from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, but I think it's more known as "the Skystones song" as it has remain so through the series.

Finished a Wild Arms 3 song: There's Only One Family Named Schrödinger! One of the best songs in the game, and yet again one song that displays the incredible music of the Wild Arms series! Michiko Naruke is genius of a composer

I think I got this one down quite well, the only question is the difficulty, like how playable the galoping 16ths are for example.

Lol I knew you'd pop up here, GBC game ^^

Y it was a great game that I used to play as a kid. I remembered being stuck at a certain part in the game, so I didn't know what to do and just kept grinding levels all day and eventually got super strong. So the game became pretty easy as I was so over-leveled.

Yeah I also recall being lost a lot... And then being underleveled in battles, so I just restarted the game (yeah I was 6-7, didn't know much about games, let alone RPGs. Actual knowledge came with Superstar Saga xD).

Hehe I love my GBC, what can I say. ;J

Finished Journey to Chaos from Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. Ever wanted to see a really good but messy arrangement? Well take a look. I tried to arranged it so it would be as easy to play as possible, having both hands work with the melody+echo, but it went really messy with all the cross-staffing and stuff. I don't know if reverse-stemming/beaming is the best option, or if having the melody upwards and echo downwards is better. Feel free to give any tip of how to improve the arrangement in terms of playiblility, fingerins/handerings (or whatever it's called lol).
Besides this being a difficult song to arrange, now when it's done I can move on and arrange some more songs from the game. They should hopefully be easier.

Finished a new arrangement! New Messiah from Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge! This song is so epic, and I think my arrangement is really good, which I'm really proud of. This song was quite tricky to arrange, being a rock/metal song, sort of, and having constant repeated notes in the LH. But I think I manage to make it as pianistic as possible using a variety of repeated notes, tremolo and also a lot of finger notation to guide the performer. I might consider doing an arrangement of the Adventure Rebirth version, it has more instruments and I think it could make a very different arrangement, especially with the LH having more chords rather than repeated notes.

Ok I finished a Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance arrangement, "Clock Tower Casualty (Duet)". This one maybe is my weirdest/coolest arrangement I've done. First of I'm not sure what tonality it goes in, the first section clearly is in G-minor. But the next is in maybe D-phrygian or something I think. And then the final seems like a big modulation or something but still in some key of D I think, or maybe leading to the D-major chord which is the dominant to G-minor, that'd make sense. Also this song is very dissonant too, and the flute ostinato seems so free, almost as if it played a different song than the lower melody. Finally we got the time signature. The song mostly goes in 10/16 (or some sort of 10th meter) apart from the beginning and the end.
All in all I got to say that this is one of the coolest songs I've arranged, being so different from most songs. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance seem to have such a interesting soundtrack, most songs being very "dissonant" more or the less to create an unsettling atmosphere. Next up I'll first make a solo version and after that arrange the probably most admired song from the game: Sky Chapel (Chapel of Dissonance).

[Duet] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Castlevania%20Harmony%20of%20Dissonance/Clock%20Tower%20Casualty%20%28Duet%29.zip)

And here's a solo version of the song! It was a bit tricky putting together all voices into a solo transcription, although some intervals became quite big, I think overall I did a good job.

Your Sky Chapel arrangement is so beautiful. I think it'd be fine to take out the extra Piano markings next to your staves in the Duet if you wanted.

I really like how you incorporated the percussion effects into Road to Enemy, too!

Thanks Oronoco!

The pno. markings should be there in a 2 piano duet actually, look at some 2 piano duets on site. And 4-hands duets should have I and II as abbreviations. We haven't got this down on the formatting guidelines, but hopefully it'll get updated soon.

Wow thanks! I think I got a good sound on this as well. I used fff's in finale + a good reverb plugin, which made it sound pretty good I think. I wonder, is the volume too low, or is it fine?

Finished my arrangement of "Psycho Warrior (Rock Castle)" from Belmont's Revenge, and I have thereby arranged all the 4 castle songs from the game! This one was pretty straight forward, the only difficulty was all the repeat systems. I also wanted it to repeat the entire song at the end, so I had to edit all the repeat systems so that they'd work on the second pass as well, quite tricky. Really great rock song otherwise, and I really love the bass line, so catchy!

Finished 3 more Belmont's Revenge songs! "Passepied (Dracula's Castle Part 2)", "Soleiyu's Room" and "Faith (Talking to Soleiyu)".

Passepied is a composition by Debussy, one of the pieces of his Suite Bergamasque. The Belmont's Revenge arrangement however, is shorter and differ very slightly in some parts.

Faith (Talking to Soleiyu) was one of those tricky "repeat 8-bit loop thing" were one voice starts and then the same voice comes in again but a bit later. I think I did a good job with it, even though those songs can be very tricky, like Journey to Chaos (Stage Select).

Finished Dancing Mad!! Finally!! :D

Ok so after finishing A Siege of Worlds WOW: WoD and Staff Credits from TP I still though that I needed to do something even bigger! So I though, how about doing the entire Dancing Mad! A kind of crazy idea but now when I've finished both A Siege of Worlds and Staff Credits I thought that it was doable and went on to complete it!

Overall I think I did a good job on this but there are still a lot of uncertainties like the the harmonies in part M, I don't know if they're correct. And if there is any possibility of adding the counter melody in measures 216-232. Please let me hear your feedback on it and if there is anything I can improve on it!

Post by: Tobbeh99 on April 06, 2016, 01:38:04 PM
Finished a new arrangement! This one is from the Wild Arms 1 remake: Alter Code: F, and the song is "Introduction". Even though it's a remake, the game has a very different soundtrack. Some songs are rearranged with improved sound fronts/sound quality, and a lot of song are completely different/new compositions. This one is entirely different from it's Wild Arms 1 counterpart "Into the Wilderness", even though you can during the end hear hints the original song. I really love this song, as much as I love the original Into the Wilderness. Michiko Naruke shows again how amazing of a composer she is, with all the different instrument being used for different textures. My favorite part going to be when the brass kicks in at the end climax. I really love those types of brass parts.

I think I did a decent job of arranging this. There are some questions reaming, but overall I think it's a really solid arrangement.

I love the swingy, dance-like feel it got to it! I think I did a great job arranging it, I chose 3/4 as the time signature and a high tempo at Q=210, which I think was better than writing it as 6/8.

Been a while since I made an arrangement. But here's a new one: "Advanced 3rd" from Wild Arms 3, the intro theme for Wild Arms 3. Took some time to do this since it was a bit tricky, even though the theme is quite short.

Finished a Wild Arms 3 arrangement! Migratory Birds - Wandering Bird-Scoundrels, the overworld theme. Took a while, lots of tricky guitar stuff, in the intro, and the last part was also a bit tricky. the middle part was quiet easy however. The only thing I'm somewhat disappointed with is that it seems a bit too difficult/tricky, but I tried to make it as simple as possible, as always.

And here's another Mario arrangement! The Castle theme from New Super Mario Bros! It's a replacement since the current one is pretty bad and also a lot different from the original. I really like this theme, it sounds so courageous when you're running through the castle. i was disappointed when I played the Wii version that they not only didn't had the DS theme, but the theme they had was way worse, imo. I really liked the melodic nature of the song, but the Wii castle song had none of that. This song was also fun to arrange, and I think the end result is really solid.

Ok no, my plan was to arrange the soundtrack over the summer, but now that I see you already did it, it's pointless. Besides it all comes to fix your arrangements, so a new topic just for that is not necessary, my bad. I'll ask for the other topic to be deleted and move the discussion here if you don't mind.

Tobbeh: Here comes mah sheets:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Zelda%20Oracles.zip

btw my "Two Quests of the Triforce" is more like an "Intro Medley", including the title screen theme as well.

Don: Ok, let's start from the beginning then. Besides maybe suggesting to split "Two Quests" and separate "Title Screen", I have few things to say until I hear your thoughts.

I've been looking some of your sheets, and you seem to sometimes overemphasize the echo effect of the song (Two Quests the second part, Secret of the Oracles...). The way I see it it's just an echo effect, nothing else, which can be translated perfectly to the piano with the pedal. Transcribing every single echo note not only overcomplicates the sheets, but most of the time it doesn't generate a good effect at all (Secret of the Oracles is a perfect example).

Also, it's not wrong, but remember the GB has 3 main audio channels. The added voices you have (i.e. octaves Title Screen part) are great but I'm not very sure how this relates to accuracy.

So yeah, I'd like to hear your thoughts about that and Two Quests in particular. :J
Also added some game info in the OP.

Tobbeh: I think my "Two Quests of the Triforce" sheet is more like an "Intro Medley" like some other sheets on site, like Ben's "Introduction" from Zelda: Link's Awakening. I found it naturally to arrange it that way and keep both songs as the title screen song comes just after the Intro song, you can't even hear it loop (repeat) in the actual game, it's more like it transcends into the other song.

I do agree with your opinion on echos on Two Quests of the Triforce, because how difficult it is. Otherwise I think it just adds to the arrangement as the echo effect makes it sound like there are more notes and if you only write down the "main notes" it can sound a bit empty or like something is missing. And I don't think you can just use the pedal to imitate the effect, as the echo makes it sound like there are more notes where the pedal only sustains notes. I also think my "Secrets of the Oracles" is really well arranged as I made a text telling that the echo notes can be ignored for the sake of playabilty.

Y the GB has only 3-layer polyphony. And some of my sheets have more than that is in the original. Sometimes I only have octaves instead of unison notes, but other times I have added a lot. I think some are OK, but others I've gone too far.

Also I think all the dungeon themes should have something like "Level" in the title. All OST videos have it, and people might remember themes from which level the dungeon was.

Don: Weird, the soundtrack I have loops it. Well anyways it's not a problem. Both arrangements offer different styles, so both can be kept for this.

Yeah but like in SotO all the echo notes are practically unnecessary. Even if you put that they can be ignored, playing the song with them is nearly impossible. It depends on the case, sure, but most of the time it's better to just omit them.

Eh dunno, it feels redundant, Level 1, 2, 3... The important part is the name of the dungeon, I don't see how anyone would remember the themes by the number of the dungeon. That said, it doesn't hurt I guess (I'll update the names as we get to those).

----

Back to Two Quests, maybe you should clean it a little though? The staves are too close. Also maybe take a look at the first two pages: m. 9 clearly goes to Eb, time signatures are very wonky in that section and the last part until m. 17 clearly resolves in E major. We could also talk about the enharmony of m. 6 or the madness that is the "Presto misterioso", but if that's how you want those parts we'll keep them as they are.

Title Screen is good, general cleaning would suffice.

After that, we can move to File Select.

Tobbeh: Y, I know I need to review Two Quest of the Triforce. I'll see what I can do, and work when I got time.

Don: K then, let's cross it for now then.

And here's another one from New Super Mario Bros., World 5 (Snow)! This started out kind of tricky as I fiddled with the grace notes to make them sound right. But after a while I realized that they shouldn't be grace notes, but instead the entire song went in 16's-swing. First time ever I had a song in 16's-swing I think, or actually it's the 2nd, "Skystones" from Skylanders: Giants also has Swing 16's. But that time I couldn't make it work, but this time I made it work! So I think I arranged it quite well. I also think I'm done with the songs from New Super Mario Bros. There were a few I wanted to arrange, but I don't have much interest for the other ones, there are a couple in the Wii version which I have interest for, but I still don't think I'll arrange those as there are many songs from other series that I want to arrange.

Made a new arrangement! "Night of the Legends" from Wild Arms 3. Really beautiful and tranquil song. It was kind of easy to arrange but there were things which were a bit tricky. The rhythm was a bit tricky, I made it 32th-dotted 16th rather than just 2 16th notes. I think it's more accurate and makes it a bit more "bouncy" rather just plain 16ths. Also the text in the beginning is meant to tell you that you should start a bit below Q=60 and the accel. to 60. I don't know how to write that, if there are some sort of expression for it, but I think the text I made makes sense.

Made some new arrangements! I arranged some victory themes from Smash 4! Pretty much all from my mains. I think all went well. Wii Fit Trainer is perfect I think, Dark Pit is good, not sure if the LH is too hard. And Bayonetta was the hardest one, not sure about the chord at the very end, and also not completely sure about the bass line.

Even though I didn't manage to complete the game, since I brought a bootleg, or a game with some problems of some sort, I did manage to play it for a while and heard some great music. The pirates song in the beginning was one of them! I really love it, it's so catchy! That bass and the guitar... just awesome! Made a nice little "intro" and "ending", in the beginning I made it so it goes from p to mf (crescendo) and in the end I have a long diminuendo leading to pppp (silence). Thought it was kind of neat.

And here's another Final Fantasy arrangement! Cry in Sorrow from Final Fantasy IV. I played some FFIV during my vacation last week and it made me exited in arranging more songs from the game. This one is really beautiful, really sad but also very warm, kind of like how FFIV is, kind of sad and touchy game, but also a game with an excellent story you just want to follow till the end.

Arranged a short but memorable jingle from Metroid, "Enter: Samus"! I played some Metroid during my vacation last week. Really hard and kind of annoying game, but with a really cool soundtrack. I really love hearing this whenever you start the game, and especially this version with the tremolos.

Finished 3 new arrangements from Pokémon GO! Haven't played the game that much, since my phone is old, but I have played it some with my friends who got a better phone. And it is pretty fun, going around catching pokemons. The music is also really good, I mean it's pokemon so what do you expect. Kind of tricky to arrange, but I think I got everything right. None of these have official titles, so I just used the most logical/most popular ones. I'm planning on arranging the entire soundtrack, so just 4 more to go!

Also, I've been shortening some more links in my OP. If any link doesn't work, please tell me so I can fix it. :)

Finished another Pokémon GO song, "Gotcha!", the song when you catch a pokémon! This was kind of cool how they made an orchestral arrangement of the original victory theme. It was a bit tricky to arrange, in the solo arrangement I had to chose what to leave in and what to leave out. And I fiddled around with the different voices to make my piano duet as good and interesting as possible.

This means that I have only 1 song left! The Gym Battle theme, which I'm already arranging. It seems like the hardest song out of all the Pokémon GO songs. I'm also going to do both a solo and a duet, probably two pianos, for this one as well.

Finished Battle! (Gym Leader) from Pokémon GO! The last song but not the last arrangement, I'm doing a duet on this one as well. This one was by far the hardest song from Pokémon GO to arrange. Long and tricky at times. but I finally made it and I think it's pretty accurate. I'll start doing a duet of this as well, it'll probably take some time as there is a lot of voices which I want to include that weren't in the solo version.

Finally I'm done with the last Pokémon GO song! It's the two piano duet of "Battle! (Gym Leader)". It was really tricky to arrange. Usually duets are pretty easy since it's pretty much the same as the solo but with more music, but this time there were a lot of "hard-to-hear" voices which I didn't have in the solo version. I'm not sure if everything is correct. Part F is kind of a mess and sounds a bit weird, but otherwise I think it's pretty fine.

So the new WoW game has come out, actually for quite a while ago. My friends are pretty hyped up about it, and seems to enjoy it a lot, I haven't played WoW, and not that into starting playing it. But I got to say that some of the music from WoW are really incredible, and I've now arranged a part of Anduin's Theme. The thing about WoW music is that they're kind of tricky to arrange. Because the songs are not just one song, they're more like one theme and then a lot of variations on the theme. So one song can basically be made out of like 10 varations on a theme, so that means that it'll take a lot of work if you want to arrange the "entire theme" as it can be over 10 min or so with all the variations. But I chose to just arrange the 1st variation of the theme, with the thought that it's great to have it arranged so I can submit it and then people will be able to play 1 version at least.

This theme was really easy to arrange except the later part, the choral part, which was rather tricky to hear what it was accurately. But I hope I got it right.

Finished a new arrangement! Dragon's Peak from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure! Probably my favorite Skylanders song, or at least one of them. I really like the majestic feel combined with the beautiful melodies. It was harder than I though to arrange. There was a lot of stuff I needed to try out on piano before I knew how to do about it. All in all I think it went pretty well.

Made a new arrangement! Or kind of new, a two pianos duet arrangement of "Himoru" from "Spectrobes". It went really well until I was going to pick out the high staccato voice. And it was basically impossible. I tried EQing the audio files, and basically every trick in the book, but it was so tough to hear it. But then later on I came across a program where you can rip DS soundtracks from rom files (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWpYH0uUec0). So I did that and got a midi file, from which I could see what the notes where supposed to be. I also edited my solo arrangement a bit, and fixed some wrong notes in it.

And I'm also really happy about the result. This is one arrangement I really feel like it went out perfect with! Just made a new arrangement! Skylanders: Imaginators just recently got released, so I decided to arrange some songs from the game. Here is the main theme of the game. I'm a bit disappointing with it. In comparison to the previous main themes, this one seem kind "too simple" and a bit too plain and boring. I think it's the lack of harmony that contributes to that, as the song got a very simple harmonic structure. However, that meant that it was kind of simple to arrange. the only difficulty was the rhythm which I think I got right. I'm also unsure about the placing of the staccato dots, if placing them above the triplet-bracket looks better, or if it looks better vice versa, placing them inside the triplet-bracket. Otherwise I think it's fine!

I also fixed my Skylanders: Swap Force - Main Theme arrangement, so now I think it's perfect.

Really feeling like halting my projects. I feel like I have done so much "for the people", and I kind of don't feel like I have the energy and more important the interest to complete them. More specifically I'm talking about "Dark Pit" and "Anduin's Theme". I really want to arrange something that I personally like and have wanted to arrange. And that is primarily Wild Arms and Castlevania. So I'm going to start arranging some of my favorite songs which I always wanted to arrange. I'll hopefully also be able to finish Dark Pit and Anduin's Theme, but I'll longer to do so since I've gotten less of an interest in doing them.

Starting of with a nice little theme from Wild Arms 1. I think I did a good job arranging this, I mean it's so short so there's little room for errors :P. Pretty simple song but I've planned to do more and longer songs as well. :)

This one is the main theme from Skylanders: Swap Force. Pretty good theme, was tricky making the video because of the tripple-staff in the second part, but I manage to make work and look decently good. :) I want to upload my Skylanders: Giant's main theme as well, but the thing is... Finished a small arrangement! Ever since I started playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night I've been enjoying it throughout the entire game! The game is basically a piece of art itself! And the music is just purely beautiful. I really like this main menu theme, it sticks out being a choral theme, and really tells you that you're playing a really special game!

Not sure how much I'll be able to arrange during this month. I'll try to finish my Sm4sh opening theme. But the song is kind of tough, and I got a lot of work at my job, so we'll see about that. And obviously I got entire list up in my head of songs I want to arrange, but it's important to be realistic about your goals, and not go all too crazy about it, and instead take song by song - arrange at a nice and comfortable tempo.

Tobbeh99 has composed a piece! :D

I have tried a lot of times, A LOT OF TIMES to compose (during my high school, or whatever "gymnasium" is in English), and I haven't just been able to do so. I've composed small themes, but never an "entire composition". But this time, I'm satisfied. This is Opus no.1.

Post by: Tobbeh99 on January 24, 2017, 04:58:38 PM
OK! I finally made it! Smash 4 Opening Theme!!!! I started working on this a while back, like november or so. And I though of finishing it at december as some sort of christmas arrangement, but it was the case because of Mostly job and also other trouble and life. But I'm... pretty much done with it. It needs some small touch up until it's ready to go. But I want to put this up so people can see it and say if there is anything wrong with. But I think everything pretty much makes sense. Maybe some things, needs to be considered but otherwise, ...it makes sense. :)

Also the ending was unbelievably tough to arrange!! The question was "How am I supposed to arrange this so that it looks pleasant and logical on paper, but also captures the musical ideas and things in the score and so that it sounds good and the performer got an idea of how it's supposed to be performed". And meeting those 2 requirements was really tough and barely even possible. Technically it's pretty much impossible to do it, but here's my take on it.

Here are some other ideas/sketches I had for the ending:

(and also one with a 12-tuplet which is similar to the 5-tuplet but with dotted values.)(I don't have an image on that one)

Wow, that's pretty impressive! That's a lot of notes...

Anyway, some things I'm noticing!

First, just nitpicky formatting stuff.
- The URL is way too low on page 1.
- Slur overlapping with triplet in m. 10.
- m. 32, molto...? Disconnect beats 3-4?
- The eighth rests in section D (LH) are awfully close to the beam.

Suggestions for de-cluttering.
- I know how much you love using layers, but I really think it'd help simplify things and free up a lot of space if you combined layers in some places. Like m. 1-4 RH, there's no holding that whole note throughout the whole measure. Likewise with measures 8 RH, and so on. Even partway through a measure, like 23, I think it would help. It just looks funny with a half rest on top of those octave chords which pushes the tuplet and articulations to the bottom.
- Tied note from 16-17 can't be held, it just takes up space. Similarly with 33-34 LH.
- Some of those mid-staff dashed lines I really don't think are necessary. Like the intro, it's pretty clear to just keep gradually crescendo-ing, and the dashed line looks almost like an 8va/vb line so I think you could do without.

Notes on other things.
- Triplets: In a lot of places like the beginning of section C (m. 18 beats 3-4) you have a quarter+two eighths rhythm in the melody which... doesn't sound quite right. Listening again I can't say it sounds exactly like triplets either. In any case, in places like m. 23 when you have that against triplets in the LH it sounds super awkward so I'd check that again.
- Section E: seems kind of off. First, the timing is off for some of the notes. The entirety of what you have for m. 46 should occur one eighth note earlier, you can hear those notes don't fall on the beat (listen to the drums). I'm also not sure what the cross-staff slur is supposed to mean in 47, and in general I'm having a hard time visually following the line in the original in your sheet. It also seems like there's a note missing on m. 47 beat 4.
- Ending: Definitely err on the side of simplification here. No one wants to read a 9-tuplet (105-tuplet??) or triple dotted half note. The timing is pretty loose so take it easy on the performer and give them something easier on the eyes.

All that said, wow, nice job haha.

After really looking into your suggestions of changes.

I actually don't think there is that much I want to change. Even though the arrangement is a bit messy. I think it's pretty accurate.

I have a thought about making a "3rd" and final version of this. But the focus of that version would be:
-removing unnecessary articulations
-simplifying complicated passages (aka only the ending).

But other than that I think it's perfect. The things I however changed which you suggested were mainly formatting issues - to make the sheet look cleaner and better spaced.

Also explanations:
Quote from: Latios212 on January 24, 2017, 05:39:47 PM- m. 32, molto...? Disconnect beats 3-4?
yes it's "cresc." first and then later "molto" as in "molto cresc".

Quote from: Latios212 on January 24, 2017, 05:39:47 PMWow, that's pretty impressive! That's a lot of notes...

Anyway, some things I'm noticing!
Y it's one of those "wierd pseudo-rhythms" as I'd like to call them. It is similar to my arrangement of "Main Theme" from Skylanders: Imaginators, where you can't tell if it's 12/8 or 4/4, triplets or 16ths.
But I think that my sheet is correct. The section is very "flowy" which can make you feel as if it is triplets, but in reality I think that the triplets are in the other "staccato-sections" where I've made them triplets.
I also put a note "dolce and legato" to show how it's supposed to be interpreted.

Quote from: Latios212 on January 24, 2017, 05:39:47 PM- Section E: seems kind of off. 47 beat 4.
Y, this section is kind of.. how should I put it, not very "true" "rhythmically". But I think I did a great job with it making it look very correct in the regard that I show where it's on beat and where it's off-beat. And I also split the theme into both staves, which makes sense as you'd want to play them with both hands.

The cross-staffed slur is supposed to show how the melody goes. Because it goes down, unexpectedly, to the low G.

Quote from: Latios212 on January 24, 2017, 05:39:47 PM- Ending: Definitely err on the side of simplification here. No one wants to read a 9-tuplet (105-tuplet??) or triple dotted half note. The timing is pretty loose so take it easy on the performer and give them something easier on the eyes.
Y y.. I know. But I want to get the feeling that it's "hanging in the air" and gradually more and more. In my arrangement of "Victory Theme (Bayonetta)" I used 6-tuplet for the jazzy part. Here I used a 9-tuplet. And I want m.53-55 to be sort of stable. But in m.55-56 it starts to destabilize. And the whole reason I chose to write it this way, is because of the dramatic ending.
There is a way (which I first tried) to make it more "clean and nice-looking", by making all the chords in m.53-55 be off-beat by making the two 16th-notes by on beat 1 and on-beat. But to me, it feels more like those 16ths are "leading-notes" which leads into the next measure, so that's why I chose this notation for the ending.

I don't want to let you listen to it but I can tell you this that it's a piece that captures the Winter-atmosphere during this month, in this time, and composed by me.

So it's kind "all-and-everything-in-one" composition. :D It really did captured the complicated times that did exist.

Tobbeh, would you mind if I used a part of your Meta Knight's revenge arrangement in a medley? I sent you more info on your youtube channel!

apparently dropbox made some change in march that changed all of my links... so none of them works... so I made a small post at the OP that links to my public folder so people can reach my sheets. I'll maybe fix all the links sometime, but really don't feel like, because is so bothersome to do.

Dropbox no longer supports public folders at all. You either need to switch to google drive, or direct link them, like I did.

I just tried and it works, but you'll probably have to save the folder in your own dropbox.
And yes all the old links are broken, so all the good ol' sheets aren't available anymore :(

Made an arrangement (was a while since I did that). It's the the ending theme from Meta Kinght's Revenge in Kirby Super Star "My Friend and the Setting Sun...". Really great jazzy theme! Think I did a good job arranging it.

The link works.

It's funny how we hear different things in that song--you emphasize the chordal accompaniment more, while I keep hearing the lower running 8th notes as a first priority accompaniment-wise.

Y, I also thought of that. In the end I chose the chords in the first part, so that I could get some contrast with the 8ths in the second part. Probably harder to play the chords but :-\, I think it gives it a more jazzier feel.

Made a two pianos duet of the Kirby song as well. The voices fit very well as a duet. But I'm really unsure, in both of them, at measures 29-36 what the organ plays there. It's really difficult to hear, and what I got there was what I got from midi files. The problem is that I found 2 different results in different midi-files, and I don't know which one is right, or if any of them are, as it's really hard to hear.

A new Wild Arms arrangement! yay! ... ... (only I'm who's hype about Wild Arms and love the game and it's music :'(). However I really like this song. It's the "sad song" of the game. I really like how it got a "blues-feel" to it (it could sound really good as a blues cover/remix). I also think I did a good job arranging it, but I might have missed something idk.

Back on site and ta-da: New arrangements!

I finished a looong song: Anduin's Theme from WoW: Legion (basically a pretty short song with a ton of variations, pretty much only). But y it was like 18 min and 422 measures (new record(for me at least) lol). Don't know how well the arrangement went, kind of hasted it a bit at the end. Also have to see what to do with the variations. If I'll have the "final bar lines" or just "double bar lines", at the end of each variation. I'll see.
And I also arranged a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night song: Requiem for the Gods. Which was very hard because of the choirs were so hard to hear and the organ part was also really difficult to hear what it actually was. I'm not 100% sure if I got it right, but it's pretty good at least. Also there are some notes in m.14 that I don't know what to do about. The lower voice. Which is sort of unplayable as it is, if you don't roll that (arpeggiated chord). Don't know what to do there. Maybe just remove 1 or 2 notes from the lower voice. Maybe.. And there might be other places which are hard to play. Maybe..

Fixed some of my sheets:

Zelda Oracles:
Caves - Made it just better. Fixed the rhythm a bit and made it all in 3/4.
Intro Medley - changed my Two Quests of the Triforce (Intro) to "Intro Medley" as it's the first 2 intro songs. Also made part C with echo notes easier to play.
Level 6, Mermaid's Cave - added the echo (although harder to play, I think it's better), also fixed some wrong notes and spelling.

Skylander Giants:
Main Theme - Removed some notes to make it easier to play (going to change some more later).

Wild Arms:
Morning of the Journey - Changed some notes in part E (so that the l.h. doesn't collide with r.h.)
Also added some parenthesis in part B

Kirby Super Star:
My Friend and the Setting Sun... - changed a note in m.26, the An to an Ab. Don't actually know if it's correct (although it makes harmonically more sense), but now I got the same on both my solo version and my duet.

Fixed Zelda Oracles: Intro Medley and Skylanders Giants: Main Theme a bit more. Might change some of the chords (the voicings) and other stuff in Skylanders: Giants Main Theme, but it's still pretty good now, I think. :)

Made a new arrangement! Team Star Flashback from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Really beautiful, somewhat sad theme. I really loved it from playing the game.

Also I've put it in the folder in the op. At the moment I don't have a website. I want to create one where I can have my arrangements, but until that I have my arrangements here, so people can reach them. :)
