Title: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Arrangement Project - Closed -
Post by: DonValentino on July 13, 2015, 12:51:08 AM
Welcome to NSM's official Arrangement Project initiative. Past the break you will find it's specific rules and guidelines. Please read!

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/animal-crossing-new-leaf)

Templates: [MUS] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6yvrxr9vnwhn4gv/AP%20Template%2012.mus?dl=0) (MUSX) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1k1x1rq71f36tp/AP%20Template%2014.musx?dl=0)

Arrangement list:
Hourly Themes
K.K. Songs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLduRsGwfIg)

~ Color legend ~

Specific rules:

- All hourly themes shall include its Rainy / Snowy variations. You can find a rehearsal mark in the expressions section under the dynamics menu of Finale.

- In addition, for consistency, please write all hours like this: "X:00 A.M." or "X:00 P.M.". (With the dots between "A.M." or "P.M." and the colon after the hour).

- About Live K.K. songs: To keep the standards of the K.K. songs on site, for the Live versions it will be enough with the plain title, no "(Live)" after it. Aircheck and Music Box keep that though: "K.K. X (Aircheck)" / "K.K. X (Music Box)"

Remember to list all the KK songs that are new to the game (because the Aircheck from older games are the same as the ones in New Leaf)

I'll take 1 PM!

Edit: The New Leaf K.K. Slider songs are...
+ K.K. Jongara which has already been done (by me!)

Looked around on the internet to find a complete soundtrack list. Found some small and some really big. I don't know if This (http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/animal-crossing-new-leaf) is the entire soundtrack, and I'm less sure about the names :/. If the soundtrack is that big we probably won't be able to arrange the entire soundtrack. So I have 2 ideas how we can make this project more clear
1) Write a reasonably long list of songs that must be arranged in order of completion of the project, probably the most common and well-known themes, but thereby giving people the option to arrange other less common themes as well as an addition to the project, like their favorite themes.
2) We make a limit at say 50-60 songs, people can arrange whichever song they like, and when that's reached the project is done.

Looking at the album, there are a hell lot of SFX and fanfares, (maybe you can put all the fanfares in one sheet like Bespinben's PMD fanfare collection) a set of 24 hours for normal, rainy and snowy, music for each building etc. Also, no K.K. Songs in there :P

Sorry for the Double post.
I have some info. for the project
-We should have all the accepted songs on the OP like in the last project and the links.
-Composers: Manaka Kataoka & Atsuko Asahi
-Date of release: November 8, 2012

And why do we have to use the same template? I really like the one I'm using (Deku's)

Because the last AP formatting was a mess and this will make it easier to keep things uniform.

2) We make a limit at say 50-60 songs, people can arrange whichever song they like, and when that's reached the project is done.

We actually discussed this some days ago. Actually, thank you for finding a full soundtrack in English! I also did that research and got the same results, being the best option a full YT playlist in French.

Well, writing all the songs was the initial plan, however, being as it is a huge soundtrack, it'd be a pain to rewrite it just for the AP. Either way, not that all those 180+ tracks would be arranged anyway. Experience also tells not even half. So we decided to just make this an "open" AP, with people just posting their NL arrangements so they can be featured in the AP.

Your suggestions are very appreciated, but still, it's a either a whole soundtrack or nothing problem: who's to decide which 50-60 should be chosen, or which are the well-known themes. I'd honestly be just complicating things even more.

That said, I thank you again that you found a complete soundtrack in English! It was my primary concern with this tbh, but it has now been solved thanks to you. I'll embed that link on the project title.

As songs are done, they will be added to the OP. All that info is already in the template, no need to add it to the OP. Well, iirc you did write all info in the OP of the PM AP, however, we just went through wrong sheet info when evaluating the sheets. A common template will ensure formatting is correct in all sheets and that all have consistent sheet info.

Arrangers already have all the info in there so they don't have to look for it, and updaters can have good formatting in all sheets, everybody wins. In remembrance of Satoru Iwata, there's no better time to say, "Please understand.".

Edit: ninja'd. Yes, what Olimar said.

I like your idea of an open AP. I guess we just close the project when we feel like, when we got enough arrangements. :)
Feel free to post the like to the soundtrack in the OP, that way people can easily get the correct titles and look at what songs there are to arrange.

A question, in the template you've included the copyright and the URL, but when I start a new sheet with it, it disappears, and only the copyright symbol is left. My question is: How do you make a new sheet with template and the copyright and URL stays??

Yes, afaik both rainy and snowy are different enough compared to the normal version so as to consider them standalone versions. However, it's to be discussed if those variations will be merged in one sheet (most likely scenario though). Still, separate versions will be accepted for now.

I don't understand how to do it, but I've tried save it as a ftmx file, and I've tried save it as a mus file. But in both cases the copyright doesn't show up. But I just enter it manually for all my sheets, it's not a big deal.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Arrangement Project
Post by: Sebastian on July 13, 2015, 08:53:57 AM
Ok.....I don't really like the idea of merging them. I think all versions should be separate. For example: Banjo Kazooie. We have the normal versions and the aquatic versions which have the same melody but they are kinda different.....however they still remain separate sheets. I don't think it would be a good idea to merge them, but I don't decide :P

After taking multiple snowy/rainy variations and comparing them separately, then playing them simultaneously, rainy and snowy versions of the hourly tunes are identical, only differing with soundfonts, percussion, and SFX (Same keys, tempi, etc.). It would be nice if everyone would include this in their hourly arrangements, since it would take almost no extra effort to create (copy-paste the original, move everything up one or two octaves, softer dynamics, and simplified accompaniment seem to be the trend).

The Captain has spoken! From now on, all hourly themes should include the normal and the rainy / snowy variations. You can already find it in the template inside the expressions under the dynamics menu. An additional specific rules section has been added to the OP for cases like this.

Don't worry, here's something to hopefully clear up any lingering confusion. I have revised my on-site arrangement of 5:00PM to include the rainy/snowy variation:

[MUS] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59554832/nsm/%5B3DS%5D%20-%20Animal%20Crossing-New%20Leaf%20-%205-00%20P.M.%20-%20Olimar12345/%5B3DS%5D%20-%20Animal%20Crossing-New%20Leaf%20-%205-00%20P.M.%20-%20Olimar12345.mus) [PDF] (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59554832/nsm/%5B3DS%5D%20-%20Animal%20Crossing-New%20Leaf%20-%205-00%20P.M.%20-%20Olimar12345/%5B3DS%5D%20-%20Animal%20Crossing-New%20Leaf%20-%205-00%20P.M.%20-%20Olimar12345.pdf)

The boxed rehearsal mark at the start of the new section can be found under the Rehearsal Marks section of the expressions in the template file, so that everyone has access to it.

Also, here are links to YouTube playlists that consist of just the rainy/snowy variations:

I have a question kinda similar to Slow's. From what I can tell, Resetti's theme isn't any different from the other games' versions. Mine is different from the one already on site but I'm not sure if we need both of them on there.

If you want my opinion, I think any of the music that appears in this game should be ALLOWED to be submitted, seeing as at the very least it received a sound upgrade and cleaning from the other entries. However, only the new tracks should be required for project completion. How does anyone else feel about that?

Done with Club LOL. here are my arrangements so far:
Museum & Exhibit Room (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Animal%20Crossing%20New%20Leaf%20Project/Museum%20%26%20Exhibit%20Room.zip)
Club LOL (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Animal%20Crossing%20New%20Leaf%20Project/Club%20LOL.zip)

Not sure what to do about measures 9-12 in Club LOL or if I need to do anything. They are a bit empty since it's only the drum that plays during that part.

I don't know if it's part of the project, but I claimed K.K. Dixie (not aircheck.)

Also, I had started Re-Tail, but I'm fine with someone taking it if they want to.  :D

Aside from what's already in the OP and the remaining AM songs which mlf is doing, you can do whatever you prefer!

Also, Bubbles, pardon my AC ignorance, but is there a reason why you added (Not the Mayor) to the title of "Welcome to Our Village!"?

It's the name of the song lol (It's near the bottom on the soundtrack list). I didn't really listen too closely but I think the two songs are pretty similar, I just took the easier one

I hope to have 11 Am done soon.

I have an idea for next project. I think that if someone nominates a game and it's not picked, they still have to participate in the Project. Like, you're not allowed to nominate unless you participate regardless of the game. Exhibit A: This project. There are multiple people that aren't participating whatsoever that did nominate a game. This rule would insure that everyone will participate and the project would finish much quicker.....and 3 people wouldn't be doing 20 songs :P
What does everyone think?

Hmm, it's called Town Hall on the site Don linked with Isabelle's Theme correlating with the extremely similar Start Your Game/File Select (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utRcW6i6gSA) music. Thoughts?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Arrangement Project
Post by: DonValentino on July 21, 2015, 02:06:04 AM
Well... Then again, in Smash Bros. for Wii U, the hourly themes are listed as "Outdoors at 7 p.m. Sunny" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSvgUZUPhbM), instead of what we're doing that's "7:00 P.M.".

I'd say we just stick to the playlist for now, there's no actual official soundtrack and I wouldn't really consider the Theme Shop as one. Maybe they just put a generic "Isabelle's Theme" to fit the theme. Dunno.

Any more thoughts though?

You can find it on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqSYV7fIfmTRtvLJm7dyZDdxF9myN_tUY
The reason why we're not using that though is because the track names are in French.

Yeah but tbh that's what happens with most AC games on site, the hourly themes and the K.K. songs have more predominance than other themes, just that in this one the we only have one K.K song. We already have almost the same bunch of New Leaf songs as we do with the first Animal Crossing and that's a very considerable amount of stuff already for a single game.

Quote from: mariolegofan on August 05, 2015, 06:46:47 AMOk. When are you planning on closing it?

Of course I'm not saying now or in a week, just marking the possibility that we could close it soon and move to a new one. Not that we're going to do the 180+ songs (unless mlf want to lol), so yeah, waiting for sheets that will not be made like we did with Paper Mario will make this AP last forever.

In my opinion, with huge soundtracks like this we could just close it when we feel we have a considerable amount of content (that ofc if interest is not enough so as to make the full soundtrack, though it'd be a very extreme situation in reality, imagine having an update of 180 songs to the site at once. wut.), just like we do updates when the submission queue is big enough.

Also, thanks mlf for those two :J
F Aeolian in 2:00 PM though.

That's true. Since I have too much time on my hands right now, I could easily finish the Hourly Themes and do quite a few (if not all) of the K.K Riders songs. But I don't want people waiting on me when we could start a new fresh project that more people would be interested in. I think I'm just gonna do a couple more. I feel so selfish for doing so many XD

I like this the best^
I like the idea of closing the projects when we feel they have enough content or when people lack interest. Then we aren't waiting for the month to finish so we can start a new project.

maybe use dotted 8th rests instead of 8th & 16th rests.
measure 34, I think it'd look better with reverse beaming on those last notes in the RH.

Ok just finished K.K. Bazaar!

Here are the files:
K.K. Bazaar (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Animal%20Crossing%20New%20Leaf%20Project/K.K.%20Bazaar.zip)

K.K. bazaar (Aircheck) is 99% done. I only need to fix the fine so that the notes after the fine are muted on the second repeat. I've Pm'd Bespinben and asked how he did that (in his arrangement of "Despair: Super Light") and I'll fix that when I know how.

in K.K Bazaar in the guitar-strum part I didn't transcribe it exactly how it is but more focused on playability.

Much appreciated! However, wouldn't it be better if you took a listen yourself to some KK songs and then pick the ones you like most? I can say K.K. Birthday or K.K. Island for example, but it's better that you choose yourself so arranging is more enjoyable to you.

Hey, that's not weird. I'm kinda that way with arranging, too. I prefer to only arrange songs that I have heard in game. I feel more of a connection with it. I just wanted to help with this Animal Crossing project because I can't submit anything right now. Plus it helps the site. If you change your mind and want to do one of the available ones, by all means go for it!

Perfect pitch, 10 years of piano/music experience, and the fact that all 3 of those songs have similar melodies and bass patterns (allowing a lot of copying and pasting).

Also, this K.K. songs bring up an issue I didn't notice, the "(Live)" in the Live versions. Consequently, and to maintain the trend that K.K. songs on site already have (except for K.K. Moody, which can be easily changed in the future), for the Live versions it will be enough with the plain title, no "(Live)". Aircheck and Music Box keep that though.

I probably led you astray a bit with the piano experience thing. Really, the only thing piano experience does is it allows you to know whether something is playable or not more quickly, rather than having to go to a piano and test it out a bunch of times. Sure, that saves some time, but not nearly as much as a hereditary gift such as absolute (perfect) pitch. Well actually, hereditary isn't quite the word I wanted to use. It is just something that can only be developed during certain time windows, usually by experience with a musical instrument. I can't remember exactly what these windows are, but the best time is having experience before age 3 or so. Its all about brain development and stuff, you can look up more about it if you want to. But anyway, it is a huge timesaver because it allows me to hear melodies or chords only 1 or 2 times and be able to recognize every note being played. I don't have to stop and keep plunking random keys until something "sounds right." You can always develop relative pitch, but I won't get into that here. This is going WAY off topic, I promise my next post will be a submission! :) Anyway, if you have any questions about pitch, arranging speed, or something else, PM me about it so we don't like get people mad at us for cluttering up this thread with non-Animal Crossing stuff!

Remembering for like 3-4 years ago I tried to learn perfect/Absolute pitch. I though that it'd be the ultimate tool for me, as I wanted to be a composer(I only needed a pen and some paper and I could just write down everything I heard in my head). I tried really hard, but all the methods were very vague. Most methods said either that you should try associate a certain note with a certain color or something, or that you should try to associate the note with a song that started on the note. And one of the programs I used, Auralia, had a huge flaw in it's Perfect Pitch training topic: The notes seemed to have different overtones, so I could hear what note it was not because I recognized the pitch but because I recognized the sound, like hearing different instruments. And also, since the notes came after each other successively, it sometimes happen that I used relative pitch to clear the exercise.
It might be possible to learn Perfect Pitch, I'm not sure, or at least get better at hearing different pitches. But But I gave up after a while because I didn't see much of a clear progress, it is much harder to learn than relative pitch. I got a pretty good relative pitch and it's easier to learn probably because you hear 2 or more notes and it's about hearing the relation to the notes, if it sounds dissonant or not etc., while perfect pitch you hear 1 or more notes and you have to know/feel what note it is.

@Tobbeh: it is impossible to learn perfect pitch, since it is a neurological condition. You can, however, learn relative pitch, which I can vouch for is extremely useful. (Probably even moreso than perfect pitch)

Quote from: DonValentino on August 18, 2015, 09:29:33 AMSolid work! At first glance, I do think it's in 4/4, why did you write 8/6 in Live if you got it right with the Aircheck? xD
Please change it to 4/4 if you don't mind. :J

Ah yes, they're kinda weird, but like Hypno K.K., they sound surprisingly good overall!

I first thought both were in 8/8 but since the aircheck version kind of blurs away so quickly I decided to only do 8/8 on the longer live version. But I made a version of it in 4/4.

This will cut down any ambiguity between different sheets in terms of layout and stablish common sheet info for every single arrangement. Both Finale 2012 and Finale 2014 templates will be offered, but at least a .mus file is always required in case of using Finale 2014.

This is what I would take a look at. I think in terms of notation and dynamics, you are set. (Except for maybe that sudden drop from mf to mp, you may want to decrescendo into that.) Articulation, on the other hand, is what I would look at. Remember, what I say below are opinions. You are not required to make these exact changes, but some change in articulation is necessary before Don accepts it.

PS: Asking if something is accepted annoys people. Plus it doesn't get your songs accepted. If it were accepted, it would be green in the OP.

  • Firstly, I think those eighth notes in measures 1-4 and 13-16 should be staccato-ed quarter notes. I think it captures the sharp feel of those notes a little better.
  • One tiny notational thing. In your bass rhythm now, you have dotted quarter-eighth-quarter-quarter. I think that bass note cuts off a little earlier; you may want to try quarter-eighth rest-eighth-quarter-quarter. The notes are fine; it is the values I would change.
  • This song overall does not offer much in terms of articulation. I guess, if you were to do anything else, you could put an accent on the right hand chord in measure 5, but that's about all I can find. If someone else wants to comment on articulations, feel free to do so.

PS: Asking if something is accepted annoys people. Plus it doesn't get your songs accepted. If it were accepted, it would be green in the OP.

Okay, I'll change it!

Quote from: Tobbeh99 on August 13, 2015, 09:45:56 AMI only need to fix the fine so that the notes after the fine are muted on the second repeat. I've Pm'd Bespinben and asked how he did that (in his arrangement of "Despair: Super Light") and I'll fix that when I know how.

Looks pretty good! I just did a couple very small touch ups that should finish this up.

-Removed second accent and instead placed one on chord in measure 11.
-Your bass beat had the rest and eighth note backwards. Fixed and applied it to whole song.
-Staccatos in measures 1-4 were hiding behind the notes. Made them visible.

Overall, nice job! This one is very close to, if not ready for submission, in my opinion. But I'm not an updater, so we'll let them make that call.

  • Initially, an AP will consist of all the soundtrack from the selected game. In order to close one AP, one of these three requirements shall be met: that 2 months without significant contributions (significant feedback or new arrangements) to the AP have past; that all the soundtrack has been arranged, or that the staff decides to close it for some reason.

So, we have nearly 60 sheets and that's already a huge amount of sheets for an AP!

I've been thinking that until I finish accepting all the arranged sheets, the project will remain open though, so there's still some time ahead. Once all are accepted, we can consider closing it and do the update so we can start with another AP.

Thanks for fixing up some wrong notes in my arrangement (town hall), but I disagree with what you did to the pick-up measure and last measure. The low C in the last beat you removed (the one imitating the last little noise) is basically the rest you have in the first measure, however there is no rest at the beginning of the piece. Therefore, it would make more sense to have a pick up measure with the last measure being 3/4, as that's what's actually happening. And if you're gonna do that, you may as well add that C back in. :3

I would, but there's no C, it's just a percussion instrument (can't remember its name tho).

0:43

I did do some little changes and fixed the loop though. :J

Announcement to the arrangers: Please check your sheet if it's accepted and in any case there's any more disconformity with any of the changes, leave a post with the changes you don't agree with; and if possible, also explain in detail why. Thanks.

You've done a great job checking the sheets and editing. I am fine with most of the things but there are some I don't agree with which I have listed below. Also till next time, please post what changes you've made, or if you made any, so I don't have to check every sheet to see if there are any changes, thinking about mlf who has even more sheet to check.

Toy Day (Christmas):
Measure 22: remove that rh line. The Bb is supposed to be played with LH, much easier. If the right hand plays that Bb you can barely reach that C and makes it much harder to play the phrase with legato.

K.K. Bazaar (Aircheck):
you could add a dotted bar line after the first beat of measure 41, so you can easily see that you're supposed to end after the first beat, on the second time.
Also you removed my "mute" expression. that muted the notes after the first beat on the second time.
take this file: MUS (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24842881/Animal%20Crossing%20New%20Leaf%20Project/K.K.%20Bazaar%20%28Aircheck%29.zip), I fixed it how it should be.

K.K. Stroll (Aircheck):
Measure 20 LH: The spiccatos looks like they are inside the notes, move them up a bit so they are in the same height as the rest.

K.K. Space:
Measure 19 LH: The spiccato is too low, colliding with the copyright.

K.K. Space (Aircheck):
I can see that I used different types of note values for the grace notes. Make all single grace notes 8th notes, and all with 2 or more 16th notes, for consistency.
I don't know about that last measure. I think mine is better with the 9/8.
Measure 16: the ppp is too far to the right almost outside of the system, move it a bit to the left.

QuoteIM NOT PROCRASTINATING ANYTHING OR ANYTHING

Sorry to keep you waiting! I'll get to these as soon as I can! By the way, I don't recall this was officially closed, yes? If there's someone who's still working on a sheet (TheMarioPianist maybe?), speak now or forever hold your peace!

I think it's safe to officially close it now. Arrangements that are already being worked on could be squeezed in though.

As a side note, I'd like to remind the arrangers to look at their fixed sheets and post anything they'd like to discuss if it wasn't posted already. Thanks for your attention!

Granted, but in that case, a (quarter=quarter) mark is needed, as well as tweaking the beaming.

Still, I didn't mean by changes teeny-tiny formatting stuff, those things you can fix them yourself and put a link like you did with K.K. Bazaar. I meant relevant changes I actually did myself like that one of the 9/8 or the bracket in Toy Day. xD

Anyone else?

Nice! Everything looks fine now!

-one thing: the pdf on Space K.K. (Aircheck) is only the first page.

Looking at my arrangement on Main Theme, I might could have done the second part a bit more easier/accessible, but I don't care about editing that arrangement. I might replace it later, or if the easy versions idea becomes real, make an easier version of it.

Finally, I think I got K. K. Disco done. My only concerns in this one are the last chord in measure 62 and the strum pattern throughout. It was really hard to pick up for me. Oh, and if the systems are too small for your liking, you can blow those up too. Anyway, I think with this one we can officially close it up.

Some things I immediately noticed:

-There is no dynamics

-Measure 45 is a single measure system

-Last beat in measure 33: Would be awesome to have a glissando there, like the slide on guitar.

Round 2 then:

- M. 11 and so on, write that half as two tied quarters to notate the third beat properly. Same with m. 40 and 49 RH.
- M. 41: Write those two tied eighths as 1 single quarter, and change the dotted quarter to one eighth tied to a quarter.
- M. 50: Same, put two tied quarters instead of a half, and change that tie for a proper slur.

Fix that and we'll call it accepted.

Golden it is! Buuut, could you do the same to the Aircheck and Music Box versions too please? I mean, changing those halves on beat two to two tied quarters. Also, on Music Box, please move the RH down one octave and put a 15ma instead; even with the 8va, some notes are way too high.

For new arrangements, yes. Only the ones that are already being worked on will be squeezed in (only Olimar's City Theme left actually, which will hopefully be done soon). There's already a nice bunch of sheets and the rest can be easily added via regular subs, so we can also start fresh anew with another AP.

Rejoice, MLF, for Bubblegum K.K. has just been accepted! Instead of brackets, we went this time with cross-staff. Hopefully you agree that while it doesn't look very pretty, it helps a lot the performer when reading. Please understand.

As a side note, I think it's safe to call this closed, not like the project is just one song away from completion or anything :B

Quote from: DonValentino on December 02, 2015, 05:28:12 AMRejoice, MLF, for Bubblegum K.K. has just been accepted! Instead of brackets, we went this time with cross-staff. Hopefully you agree that while it doesn't look very pretty, it helps a lot the performer when reading. Please understand.
Sweet! I originally had cross-staffing in and was told to take it out XD
Looks like you missed measure 26.

Olimar's sheet can be easily included later too, since I'm positive it wouldn't give any problem at all.
Yay!
Can't wait for a new project.

Done! Hmm really? Luckily it's fairly easy to cross-staff. Phew. I wish you had kept it though xD
